Lot 1 A BR(S) fascia sign, SOUTHERN, HELLINGLY STATION, from the Cuckoo Line between Eridge and Polegate; the station closed in 1965. Enamel, 52¾"x11¾", two small face chips and edge chipping. £700-1000 - Sold for £2000.

Lot 2 A North Eastern Railway, Zetland Hotel, Saltburn, silver plated coffee pot by Elkington. £150-300 - Sold for £450.

Lot 3 A Great Western Railway notice from the station Gents, PLEASE ADJUST YOUR DRESS BEFORE LEAVING. Cast iron, 14¾"x9", original condition. £300-500 - Sold for £540.

Lot 4 A worksplate, BEYER PEACOCK, 1877, from a standard gauge New South Wales Government Railways C19 Class 0-6-0. Beyer Peacock supplied eighteen of this type, Works Nos 1643-8 and 1675-86, in 1877, running numbers 93-104 and 31-36N. Cast brass, 14¾"x7", repainted. £350-500 - Sold for £360.

Lot 5 A GWR signal box shelf plate, TO FENNY COMPTON, from the Banbury to Leamington main line. Engraved brass, 4¾"x1½". £100-200 - Sold for £300.

Lot 6 A BR(Sc) totem sign, MUSSELBURGH, (f/f), the terminus of the short branch east of Edinburgh. Excellent condition. £600-900 - Sold for £2100.

Lot 7 A worksplate, BR-E, 60039, DONCASTER, 1934, from a LNER A3 Class 4-6-2 No 2504 built at Doncaster, Works No 1794, in September 1934, and named SANDWICH after the racehorse owned by Lord Rosebery which won the 1931 St Leger. It was renumbered 39 in 1946 and became BR 60039. Allocated new to Gateshead in September 1934, it moved the following year to Doncaster and later Grantham, Leicester and Kings Cross from where it was withdrawn on 14 March 1963 and despatched for scrap to Doncaster Works on 3 April 1963. Cast brass, 9"x5", the front repainted. £800-1200 - Sold for £640.

Lot 8 A signal box nameboard, KINGS LANGLEY, from the southern section of the West Coast Main line. Cast letters on wood with beading, 70"x10¼", fine original condition. £150-300 - Sold for £420 to commission or postal bidder number 4422.

Lot 9 A London and South Western Railway station handbell with engraved company initials, overall height 17". £400-600 - Sold for £950.

Lot 10 A BR(W) lamp tablet, RADLEY, from the Didcot to Oxford route, the junction for the Abingdon branch. Enamel, 20"x6", a little loss of shine and rust hole below the left fixing. £150-300 - Sold for £100.

Lot 11 A Railway Signal Company miniature train staff, LETTERKENNY-GLENMAQUIN, from the County Donegal Railways Strabane to Letterkenny route. £200-350 - Sold for £300.

Lot 12 A worksplate, SHARP STEWART, 4302, 1897, and its matching rebuild plate, SE&CR, REBUILT, ASHFORD WORKS, from a South Eastern Railway O Class 0-6-0 No 425 built in August 1897 and rebuilt by the SE&CR at Ashford with a new boiler and cab and re-classified as an O1 in May 1914 when the rebuild plate was fitted. It became SR 1425 and BR 31425 and was allocated to Bricklayers Arms by January 1948, moving the following year to Dover from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 29 August 1959 and cut up at Ashford Works during November 1959. Lot 13 A depot plaque, CHESHIRE CAT, from Crewe Diesel depot. Cast aluminium, 17½"x11½", in ex loco condition. £150-300 - Sold for £340.

Lot 14 A GWR signal lever plate, 11, DOWN MAIN, CRUMLIN BRANCH. Engraved brass, length 4½". £150-300 - Sold for £750.

Lot 15 A Southern Railway notice, STEAMER BOOKING OFFICE, used at Ryde, Isle of Wight. Enamel, 30"x12", chipping at screw holes repainted. £400-600 - Sold for £300.

Lot 16 A BR(W) totem sign, NEWTON ABBOT, (f/f), from the west of England main line to Plymouth and Torbay. Superb condition. £800-1200 - Sold for £1650 to commission or postal bidder number 3741.

Lot 17 A London Tilbury & Southend Railway wagon registration plate, LTSR, 539, 1908. Cast iron, 9"x6¾", in original unrestored condition. £150-300 - Sold for £280 to commission or postal bidder number 1972.

Lot 18 A GWR silver plated, hexagonal mustard pot by Mappin and Webb. The side marked with the roundel device; the pot lacks its glass liner. £100-200 - Sold for £90.

Lot 19 A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 63429, AW & Co LTD, 1920, from a North Eastern Railway Class T2, LNER Q6 Class, 0-8-0 No 2272 built by Armstrong Whitworth & Co Ltd, Works No 20, in May 1920, renumbered 3429 in 1946, becoming BR 63429. Allocated to Selby by January 1948 and later Blaydon, North Blyth and Tyne Dock from where it was withdrawn on 1 July 1967 and sold for scrap to Clayton Davie of Gateshead. Cast iron, 9"x5", the front repainted. £250-400 - Sold for £300 to commission or postal bidder number 4197.

Lot 20 A BR(S) station sign, TRAIN DEPARTURES, (f/f), enamel, 32"x4", a couple of tiny rim chips. £150-300 - Sold for £630.

Lot 21 A Webb and Thompson large train staff, NAVAN JCTN or NAVAN STN-KELLS, with key, from the Oldcastle branch, north west of Dublin. £200-350 - Sold for £320 to commission or postal bidder number 782.

Lot 22 A carriage print, NEW FOREST, by Hesketh Hubbard, from the Southern Railway series. £100-200 - Sold for £100.

Lot 23 A GWR lamp glass, WISHING WELL HALT, closed 1957, from the Dorchester to Weymouth route. Frosted glass with blue lettering, 14½"3". £100-200 - Sold for £430 to commission or postal bidder number 589.

Lot 24 A worksplate, BRITISH RAILWAYS, DONCASTER, 1965, AEI, ENGLISH ELECTRIC, from Class 86 E3119, later 86229. New to Crewe Electric in October 1965; named SIR JOHN BETJAMAN at St Pancras station in June 1983, then renamed LIONS CLUB INTERNATIONAL in 1998 until withdrawal in 2003. Currently stored at Long Marston. Cast aluminium, 8½"x5¾". The front repainted, the back stamped 86 229. £500-800 - Sold for £420.

Lot 25 A LNER setback plate, MALTON, from the York to Scarborough route. Cast iron, length 23½", the front repainted. £200-350 - Sold for £660.

Lot 26 A shed plate, 87K Swansea Victoria (1949 to August 1959). This ex LNWR shed, formerly coded 4A by the LMS, became part of the WR in 1949, when it was home to 50 locos. It retained a substantial allocation of 55 locos right up to closure. £150-300 - Sold for £280 to commission or postal bidder number 1460.

Lot 27 A BR(W) totem, WINDSOR & ETON CENTRAL, (h/f), the terminus of the branch from Slough. Two edge chips restored, just into the brown. £500-800 - Sold for £1250.

Lot 28 A BR(W) DMU destination indicator with roller blind housed within a wooden case, complete with integral winder, key to open and electrics to illuminate. Destinations all across Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Somerset included inc Calne, Clevedon, Bridport, Barnstaple, Devizes, Portishead, Wells etc. £200-350 - Sold for £780.

Lot 29 A London and Birmingham Railway numberplate, L&BR 945, from one of the company's houses. Cast iron, 9¼"x7", the front repainted. £200-350 - Sold for £480.

Lot 30 A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 5454, REBUILT STRATFORD, 1920, from a Great Eastern Railway Class Y14 0-6-0 No 556 built at Stratford in June 1906, becoming LNER J15 Class No 7556, renumbered 5454 in 1946, BR 65454. The rebuilding date on this plate probably consisted only of fitting a new boiler. Allocated to Stratford by January 1948 and later Colchester and Ipswich from where it was withdrawn on 22 May 1959 and noted at Stratford Works on 29 June 1959. Cast brass, 9"x5", in ex loco condition. £200-350 - Sold for £400.

Lot 31 A Southern Railway target sign, PARKSTONE, from the Bournemouth Central to Poole section of the main line to Weymouth, also served by Somerset and Dorset route trains to Bournemouth West. Considerable restoration and loss of shine although the lettering unaffected. £500-800 - Sold for £600.

Lot 32 An original painting, THE ROYAL SCOT, by Victor Welch, a view of 46248, CITY OF LEEDS passing Scout Green Box. Framed and glazed, overall, 28"x23". £350-500 - Sold for £600.

Lot 33 A Tyers No.6 single line tablet, OTTERHAM-CAMELFORD, (brass/steel), from the North Cornwall line between Okehampton and Padstow which closed in 1966. £250-400 - Sold for £420.

Lot 34 A worksplate, GREAT CENTRAL Ry, GORTON, 1914, from a Great Central Railway Class 1A 4-6-0 No 444 ex Works in October 1914. It became LNER Class B8 No 444C in 1923, and was renumbered 5444 in 1925 and 1355 in 1946. Withdrawn in September 1948 from Darnall, it was cut up at Dukinfield Works. Cast brass, 10½" x 6⅝", repainted, the number 5444 painted on the back. Note: The boltholes have been reduced in width by the railways at some time using brass infill. £400-600 - Sold for £340.

Lot 35 A Lynton and Barnstaple Railway poster board header. Edge chips restored affecting the R of Railway and a small face chip restored. The narrow gauge line closed in 1935. Enamel, 20¼"x5". £500-800 - Sold for £2000.

Lot 36 A signal box nameboard, LUTON WEST, from the Welwyn to Luton and Dunstable route, which closed in 1965. Cast letters on wood, length 65". £250-400 - Sold for £220.

Lot 37 A BR(S) totem sign, WHITSTABLE & TANKERTON, (f/f) from the North Kent Coast route between Faversham and Ramsgate. A chip repair to the K and at the left end, some loss of shine. £300-500 - Sold for £460.

Lot 38 A smokebox numberplate, 70012, from the BR Standard Class 7 Britannia 4-6-2 JOHN OF GAUNT built at Crewe and allocated new to Norwich on 21 May 1951 and later Stratford, Yarmouth South Town, March, Willesden, Crewe North, Crewe South, Llandudno Junction and Carlisle Kingmoor from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 30 December 1967 and despatched for scrap to T.W. Ward at Killamarsh on 21 March 1968. Ex loco condition. £1500-2000 - Sold for £4000.

Lot 39 A GWR Hotels silver fruit bowl by Walker & Hall, the centre design featuring a bunch of grapes, diameter 8½". £150-300 - Sold for £320.

Lot 40 A Webb and Thompson large train staff, ROWFANT-EAST GRINSTEAD, from the Three Bridges to East Grinstead route which closed in 1967. £200-350 - Sold for £220.

Lot 41 A worksplate, SCHWARTZKOPFF, 6958, BERLINER MACHINENBAU, 1919, from a 5ft gauge 4-6-0 No 580, the second of a batch of fifteen locos of this type built by the company for Finnish State Railways (VR) in 1919. Cast brass, 16¼"x9¾", in ex loco condition. £300-500 - Sold for £840 to commission or postal bidder number 7946.

Lot 42 A nameplate, EIRE, from the LMS Jubilee Class 6P 4-6-0 No 5572, BR 45572, built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 24130, and allocated new to Crewe North on 25 August 1934. Originally named IRISH FREE STATE on 24 March 1936, this was changed to EIRE on 19 July 1938, without publicity, by agreement between the governments of the UK and Ireland. Its later sheds included lengthy periods at both Trafford Park and Bristol Barrow Road from where it departed in 1961 to Shrewsbury from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 4 January 1964 and cut up by A. Loom at Spondon, Derby on 16 July 1964. Cast brass, 28¾" long, the front repainted. £7000-9000 - This lot did not sell at the auction. Lot 43 A GWR warning notice from the cab of a steam auto coach, the plate similar to the 1909 notice but this referring to the step of the car rather than the cab. Cast iron, 12"x7½", repainted. (H C Casserley Collection) £400-600 - Sold for £370 to commission or postal bidder number 602.

Lot 44 A smokebox numberplate, 58123, from a Midland Railway 1142 Class 0-6-0 No 1160 built by Kitson & Co, Works No 2020, in September 1875. It was renumbered 2918 in 1907 and 22918 in 1934, becoming BR 58123. Allocated by January 1935 to Bescot, it spent most of its later years there and at Walsall. Withdrawn from Bescot in the week ending 7 July 1962, it was taken for scrap by Cashmores at Great Bridge on 12 October 1962. Ex loco condition. £350-500 - Sold for £440.

Lot 45 An advertising sign, CANADIAN PACIFIC STEAMERS. Enamel, 17"x13", excellent condition. £200-350 - Sold for £520 to commission or postal bidder number 2521.

Lot 46 A Southern Railway target sign, WOKING, from the West of England main line. Edge rusting, otherwise excellent. £350-500 - Sold for £820 to commission or postal bidder number 2521.

Lot 47 A nameplate, CITY OF BRADFORD, from Class 43 power car 43085. Named at Bradford Interchange station in June 1983; this cast plate was replaced by a silver reflective plate in April 1991. Cast aluminium, 34¾", the front repainted. £1500-2000 - Sold for £1700.

Lot 48 A County of Somerset bridge weight notice signed H.T. CHAPMAN, BATH, COUNTY SURVEYOR. Cast iron, 19¾"x18¼", in original condition. £100-200 - Sold for £280.

Lot 49 A BR(W) totem, WESTBURY WILTS, (h/f) from the West of England main line. Chipping restored above and below the letter R, surface wear to the far right end. £500-800 - Sold for £620.

Lot 50 A London and North Western Railway hydrant notice, TO GRAND JUNCTION SIGNAL BOX & EXCHANGE SIDINGS. The junction is north of Birmingham New Street, the name referring to the early company which worked north from Birmingham. Cast iron, 23¾"x14½", repainted. £200-350 - Sold for £420.

Lot 51 A worksplate, BEYER PEACOCK, 1891, from a standard gauge Class P6 4-6-0 (BP 3404 of 1891) built for the New South Wales Government Railways, NSWGR No P11, the 5th in a very successful class of 191 locomotives, of which BP built the first 106. From 1924 it was renumbered C3205 of class C32 and lasted into the late 1960s. Four are preserved including C3203, but not this one. The class seem to have lost the oval builder's plate on the engine splasher early on, but maker's plates were retained, as originally fitted, on the tender. The letters TAB on the obverse refer to the tender; TAB 11 was a 6-wheel tender, rather than a double bogie type which many had.(TAB11-3205). Cast brass, 16½"x7¾", the front lightly cleaned. This lot is accompanied by the vendor's more detailed research notes and an official works photograph of one of the class. £400-500 - Sold for £400.

Lot 52 A Highland Railway silver plated vegetable dish, the cover marked with the full company name within a belted garter, the divided base unmarked. £80-120 - Sold for £90.

Lot 53 A GWR cabside numberplate, 5752, from a 5700 Class 0-6-0PT built at Swindon in April 1929. A long time Didcot engine, it was withdrawn from there on 24 February 1957 and sold to the London Transport Executive, becoming their No L91. Withdrawn by LT in 1960 and subsequently scrapped, it was replaced as L91 by 5757 of the same class. Cast iron, the front repainted. £300-500 - This lot did not sell at the auction. Lot 54 A BR(Sc) totem sign, MAXTON, (f/f), from the Berwick-on-Tweed to St Boswells route. The station closed in 1964. Considerable restoration but an obscure location in Roxburghshire just east of the Waverley Route. £400-600 - Sold for £400.

Lot 55 A shedplate, 88A Cardiff Cathays (1949 to December 1957), then Cardiff Radyr (December 1957 to October 1960), then Cardiff Canton (October 1960 to September 1962). The ex TVR shed at Cathays had an allocation of 80 locos, while ex GWR shed Radyr had 55 locos during this period. Ex GWR Canton�s allocation of 130 included 12 Britannias until September 1961. Canton closed to steam in September 1962 and became a diesel depot. Ex loco condition, the back marked 5081. £100-200 - Sold for £160.

Lot 56 A Webb and Thompson large train staff, TUBBERCURRY-CHARLESTOWN, with key, from the Claremorris to Collooney and Sligo route. £200-350 - Sold for £250 to commission or postal bidder number 782.

Lot 57 A LNER seat back plate, ST NEOTS, from the southern section of the East Coast Main Line. Cast iron, 28", original condition. £600-700 - Sold for £600.

Lot 58 A carriage print, RICHMOND, YORKSHIRE, by H. Tittensor, from the LNER Pre-War series. £150-300 - Sold for £300.

Lot 59 A BR(M) totem sign, BIRKDALE (face fixing), from the Southport to Liverpool route. Minor blemishes. £450-600 - Sold for £680.

Lot 60 A smokebox numberplate, 76062, from a BR Standard Class 4 2-6-0 built at Doncaster and allocated new on 15 July 1955 to Redhill. In June 1959 it moved to Eastleigh from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 2 October 1965 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Newport in December 1965. Ex loco condition. £350-500 - Sold for £580.

Lot 61 A single line key token, PORT ISAAC ROAD-ST. KEW HIGHWAY, (brass), from the North Cornwall line between Okehampton and Padstow which closed in 1966. £150-300 - Sold for £320.

Lot 62 A worksplate, SENTINEL, 9609, from a 200HP standard gauge chain-drive steam locomotive new in 1956 to the Millom & Askham Hematite Iron Co Ltd, Millom Ironworks, Cumberland as No 6. Scrapped on site by S. Morgan & Sons Ltd. of Barrow-in-Furness in December 1968. Cast brass, 5"x4", the front lightly cleaned. £100-200 - Sold for £230.

Lot 63 A SR block instrument by Tyer and Co, with enamel Up and Down Line plates. £150-300 - Sold for £440 to commission or postal bidder number 7342.

Lot 64 A cabside numberplate, SOUTHERN RAILWAY, 1101, from a South Eastern & Chatham Railway B Class 4-4-0 No 101 built at Ashford in 1898. It was re-boilered in 1913 and re-designated as B1 Class, becoming SR 1101 and BR 31101. Along with several others of the class, it was immobilised for some months during World War II and made to serve as an air raid shelter. Cast brass, 13½"x7½", the front repainted. £800-1200 - Sold for £650.

Lot 65 A BR(W) double royal poster, HEREFORDSHIRE, by A. J. Wilson. (PR171/60) £150-300 - Sold for £280.

Lot 66 A Nameplate ARUNDEL CASTLE, from a 400HP standard gauge 0-6-0 diesel-electric locomotive, built by Hudswell Clarke, Works No DE1076 of 1959. Built in association with Brush Electrical Engineering of Loughborough, who supplied the generator and electrical equipment. New to the Manchester Ship Canal Co. as their D4002. Later passed into preservation with the East Lancashire Light Railway at Bury, where it still remains. Cast brass, length 38¼", the front repainted. £200-350 - Sold for £420.

Lot 67 A worksplate, NORTH BRITISH LOCO Co, QUEENS PARK WORKS, 23927, 1929, from a GWR 5700 Class 0-6-0PT No 7731 built in December 1929. A long time Southall engine, it was withdrawn from there on 6 April 1959 and cut up at Swindon Works during the week ending 2 January 1960. Cast brass, 15¼"x6¼", the front repainted. £250-400 - Sold for £350 to commission or postal bidder number 3022.

Lot 68 A BR(NE) double royal poster, BRIDLINGTON, by Tatt. Damage to the edge of the left border. (NE59) £100-200 - Sold for £160.

Lot 69 A Great North Eastern Railway carriage crest carried on the centre of the coaches on the East Coast Main Line, post privatisation. Cast brass, 19½"x22½", in fine original condition. £500-800 - Sold for £880.

Lot 70 A Southern Railway target sign, CRAWLEY, from the Three Bridges to Horsham route. Minor edge chips. £250-400 - Sold for £720.

Lot 71 A nameplate, OBERON, from a London & North Western Railway Precursor Class 4-4-0 No 2164 which became LMS 5277 and was renumbered 25277, withdrawn in August 1946. It was named after the Mythical King of the Fairies, the husband of Titania. Engraved brass, 50¼" with additional stamping, Superheated, 1/13. The original purchase receipt, to H. C. Casserley, dated 1946, accompanies the lot. £7000-8000 - Sold for £8400 to commission or postal bidder number 2521.

Lot 72 A Mumbles Railway doorplate from the company's registered offices. Engraved copper, 10½"x3½". £200-350 - Sold for £450 to commission or postal bidder number 4051.

Lot 73 A smokebox numberplate, 30522, from a (London & South Western Railway) N15 Class 4-6-0 No 522, BR 30522, built after Grouping by the Southern Railway at Eastleigh in July 1924. Allocated to Eastleigh by January 1948 and later Nine Elms and Salisbury from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 23 September 1961 and cut up at Eastleigh Works in the week ending 4 November 1961. Repainted, the BR(S) Eastleigh triangle cast on the back. £400-600 - Sold for £1000 to commission or postal bidder number 4815.

Lot 74 A BR(M) sign, SUDBURY, (f/f), from the Derby to Uttoxeter route; the station closed in 1966. An edge chip to the right end, into the maroon, a further chip top left to the white rim. £500-800 - Sold for £400.

Lot 75 A GWR lever plate from Oswestry signal box, 11, BRANCH TO DOWN MAIN CALLING ON. Engraved brass, length 11", unpolished. £80-120 - Sold for £440.

Lot 76 A GWR cabside numberplate, 4275, from a 4200 Class 2-8-0T built at Swindon in March 1920. Allocated to Pontypool Road by January 1948 later Cardiff Canton, Severn Tunnel Junction and Neath Court Sart from where it was withdrawn on 6 January 1964 and cut up at Swindon Works by Hayes of Bridgend in the four weeks ending 18 April 1964. Cast brass, the front repainted. £400-600 - Sold for £720.

Lot 77 A GWR warning notice from Swindon Works concerning the reporting of fires. Enamel, 11½"x13", excellent condition. £150-300 - Sold for £460 to commission or postal bidder number 2409.

Lot 78 A GWR cabside numberplate, 6366, from a 53xx Class 2-6-0 built at Swindon in October 1925. A long time Reading engine, its later sheds were Swindon, Pontypool Road, Tredegar, Ebbw Junction and Cardiff Canton from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 1 September 1962 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Newport on 10 July 1963. Cast iron, the front repainted. £500-600 - Sold for £720 to commission or postal bidder number 4051.

Lot 79 A Wye Valley Railway trespass notice; the line ran from Chepstow to Monmouth, opening in 1876 and was absorbed by the GWR in 1905. Cast iron, 28¾"x19½", the front repainted. A rare sign, only a handful of examples are known to survive. £1500-2000 - Sold for £4700.

Lot 80 A shedplate, 4D Abergavenny (1935 to 1949). This ex LNWR shed was home to 40 locos in LMS times which included 14 0-6-2 Webb Coal Tanks. It was transferred to BR(W) and became 86K; finally closing in January 1958. LMS pattern. Repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £500.

Lot 81 A Tyers LSWR train describer, an early example with routes including, Southampton Terminus, Northam, Mails, Dorset Line, Weymouth, Bevois Park etc. Excellent original condition. £700-1000 - Sold for £3600.

Lot 82 A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 9178, COWLAIRS WORKS, 1913, from a North British Railway Class D 0-6-0 No 178 built at Cowlairs in January 1884. It was rebuilt at Cowlairs with new boiler, officially in April 1912, but probably not completed until the following year, hence the date on this plate. It became LNER J33 Class No 9178 in October 1924, when this plate would have been fitted, and was withdrawn in January 1927, so a rare survivor. Cast brass, 9"x5", the front repainted. Note: The LNER N19 Class 0-6-2T No 9178 built at Cowlairs in December 1923 was not so numbered until 1946. £250-400 - Sold for £440.

Lot 91 A single line key token, OXLEY BRANCH JCT-WOMBOURN, (alloy), from the Wolverhampton to Stourbridge Junction route, built by the GWR in 1925 and closing in 1965. Passenger services lasted for only seven years. £150-300 - Sold for £340.

Lot 97 A South African Railways cabside numberplate, 1887, from a 3ft 6ins gauge Class 14C 4-8-2 built by the Montreal Locomotive Works, Works No 60261, in 1919. In the early 1930s some of the class, including this one, were re-balanced to enable them to be used on branch lines and they were re-designated Class 14CB, the B indicating branch line usage. After reboilering it was again re-designated as Class 14CRB, the R indicating the rebuilding. The class were all withdrawn by 1983. Lot 99 A worksplate, HUNSLET ENGINE, 7159, 1969, from a standard gauge 0-4-0 diesel-hydraulic locomotive new in November 1969 to Bradford Corporation Water Pollution Control Department, Esholt Purification Works, near Bradford, Yorkshire West Riding. Named PRINCE OF WALES. Sold to Crossley Brothers (Shipley) Ltd. Metal Merchants, Shipley, near Bradford in December 1981, for shunting their yard. The company later became Crossley-Evans Ltd. and the locomotive was still on site in 2017. Lot 100 A single line key token, WREXHAM CENTRAL-WREXHAM EXCH, (alloy), the final section on the Dee Marsh Junction to Wrexham route, opened by the Wrexham, Mold and Connahs Quay Railway before becoming part of the Great Central. £100-200 - Sold for £190.

Lot 102 A worksplate, LMS BUILT 1889, HORWICH. Locos built by the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway at Horwich in 1889 were 1093 Class 4-4-0s, all scrapped in the 1930s, 1008 Class 2-4-2T, some surviving into BR days numbered in the 506XX series, and 11 Class 0-6-0, some surviving into BR days numbered in the 52XXX series. Lot 103 A shedplate, 8H Birkenhead (September 1963 to closed to steam November 1967). This ex LNWR and GWR joint shed, formerly 6C, was home to around 75 steam locos when it used this code. Lot 104 A nameplate, DEVIZES CASTLE, from the GWR 4073 Castle Class 4-6-0 No 7002 built at Swindon in June 1946 and named after the Medieval fortification in the Wiltshire town, on a site now occupied by a Victorian era castle. The nameplate was previously carried by two earlier Castles, first by No 5050 built at Swindon in May 1936 (renamed Earl of St Germans in August 1937), then by No 5075 built in August 1937 (renamed Wellington in October 1940). Allocated to Landore by January 1948 No 7002 moved to Carmarthen in November 1956 and back to Landore in June 1958 before moving in November 1959 to Worcester from where it was withdrawn on 10 March 1964 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Great Bridge on 3 June 1964. When a new boiler was fitted, it was re-classified as Class 14R, the A suffix being ground off the cabside and replaced by an R indicating it had been rebuilt. All were withdrawn by 1983. It was renumbered 2672 in 1946, becoming BR 62672. A long time Eastfield engine, it was withdrawn from there on 8 August 1961 and cut up at Heatheryknowe. Lot 126 A shedplate, 71A Eastleigh (1950 to September 1963). This ex LSWR shed housed 11 King Arthurs and 8 Lord Nelsons among its 1950 allocation of 140 locos. By the time it changed code to 70D in 1963, 15 West Country Pacifics were present in a total of 100 locos. Closure to steam came in July 1967. Ex loco condition, the back marked with the BR(S) Eastleigh triangle. £100-200 - Sold for £120.

Lot 127 A Southern Railway seat back plate, FREMINGTON, from the Barnstaple to Torrington branch which closed in 1966. Lot 134 A worksplate, NORTH BRITISH LOCOMOTIVE Co, HYDE PARK WORKS, 24809, 1942, from a Stanier 8F type 2-8-0 built to Ministry of Supply order for the War Department, WD No 623. Loaned new to the LMS in September 1942, it was sold to them in November 1943, becoming Class 8F No 8285 and BR 48285. A long time Kettering engine from 1942 till 1964, it finished its days at Wellingborough and Leicester LM from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 18 September 1965 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Great Bridge on 23 November 1965. Lot 135 A GWR signal box shelf plate, STRATFORD-ON-AVON WEST. Engraved brass, 4¾"x1½". £100-200 - Sold for £200.

Lot 136 An attractive mid-19th century LNWR 12" oak drop case clock. Overall height: 21" The box with side and bottom doors, oval glazed pendulum window with moulded surround and fan shaped ears with lobed drops. Standard oval brass LMSR plate numbered 8925 fixed partly over two plugged holes. One-piece dial surround with repairs, containing an old style spun brass bezel with separate sight ring now soldered in place. Dial overwritten L.& N.W.R. J. Sewill 61 South Castle St. 1868 Liverpool, with the original writing discernible under. Blued spade hands. Wire fusee movement between plates with feet and shaped shoulders, knopped pillars and shaped backcock. Surviving LMS records don�t include 1868 or 8925; LNWR clocks were numbered up to about 5500 and this series was adopted as the start of the LMS numbering thus 8925 would not normally be ex-LNWR, however the plugged screw holes suggest the LMS plate may replace an earlier LNWR rectangular vitreous enamel plate (perhaps damaged or unreadable) which would fit the plugged holes while the replacement oval had to be fixed slightly lower to clear the pendulum window moulding. Complete with pendulum, bob scratched 1868 recently and 639 and 8925 earlier and altered rod (both possibly replaced), winder and a receipt recording its sale by Gardiner Houlgate in their disposal of the late I. Lot 140 A worksplate, VULCAN FOUNDRY, 2494, 1909, from a 5ft 6ins gauge 2-8-0 supplied new to the North Western Railway of India, their No 1631. It later became East India Railway No 2072, then India Railways No 26935 and finally HGS Class No 26744 from which this plate was removed at Sitarampur shed in November 1975 when the engine was still in service. Lot 144 A smokebox numberplate, 2092, from a GWR 2021 Class 0-6-0 tank loco built at Wolverhampton, Works No 696, in April 1901, originally as a saddle tank but converted to a pannier tank in October 1930. Allocated to Stourbridge by January 1948, it moved in June 1950 to Birkenhead from where it was withdrawn on 24 August 1955 and sold from Swindon Works on 29 November 1955 to the National Coal Board at Bargoed. A long time Bricklayers Arms loco, it moved in June 1959 to Salisbury from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 25 February 1961 and cut up at Eastleigh Works the following 23 March. Allocated to Heaton by January 1948, it moved in 1951 to Gateshead where it stayed for ten years before finishing its days at Tweedmouth from where it was withdrawn on 26 November 1962 and cut up at Darlington Works. It was then loaned to the LMS in April 1947 at Huddersfield and taken into BR stock the following year. Its later sheds included Toton, Hereford, Swansea Paxton Street, Llanelly, Gloucester LM and Bath Green Park from where it was withdrawn on 25 June 1964 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Newport on 15 December 1964. Lot 164 A worksplate, NORTH BRITISH LOCO Co, ATLAS WORKS, 22239, 1919, from a 2-8-0 built to Ministry of Munitions order for the Railway Operating Division of the Royal Engineers to Robinson's Great Central Railway design in June 1919, ROD No 2149. Loaned new to the LNWR as LNWR 2843 until August 1921, it went into store at Queensferry until December 1923 when it went to the LNER as Class O4 No C6300. It was renumbered 3894 in 1946, becoming BR 63894. Allocated to Annesley by January 1948 and later Colwick and Mexborough from where it was withdrawn on 11 July 1960 and cut up at Gorton Works in the week ending 20 August 1960. Lot 165 A Southern Railway target sign, TORRINGTON, from the Barnstaple Junction to Torrington and Halwill route which closed in 1966. Face and edge chips neatly restored otherwise in original condition with backboard. £1000-1500 - Sold for £1450.

Lot 166 A shedplate 52F North and South Blyth (1949 to 1967). These two ex NER sheds on either side of the River Blyth had a combined total of around 40 locos during the 1950s. The South shed closed in May 1967 and the North shed followed in September of that year. Many will remember using the small ferry to get to the North Shed in order to save a long car journey!! It moved in May 1951 to Old Oak Common from where it was withdrawn on 10 March 1964 and cut up at Swindon Works in the four weeks ending 5 September 1964. Lot 180 A worksplate, LMS BUILT 1925, DERBY, from the LMS Class 4P 4-4-0 No 1113 which became BR 41113. It spent most of its BR days at Rugby, moving at the very end to Lancaster (Green Ayre) from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 13 December 1958 and sold for scrap to Cashmores at Great Bridge. Cast brass, 10¼"x6", in ex loco condition, the number 1113 on the back. £200-350 - Sold for £160.

Lot 181 A nameplate, CASTLE HEDINGHAM, from an LNER B2 Class 4-6-0 No 2814 built at Darlington in October 1930 as a B17, and named after the village near Halstead in Essex where the Norman Hedingham Castle is located. It was rebuilt and re-classified to B2 Class in November 1946 and re-numbered 1614 the following month, becoming BR 61614. As a result of the rebuilding, the centre splasher supporting the nameplates was removed, so metal plates were fitted to the top of the running plate to which the nameplates, with their rear fixing brackets removed, were bolted directly. It was at Colchester by January 1948 and later Cambridge from where it was withdrawn on 8 June 1959 and cut up at Stratford Works. Cast brass, length 59¼", the front repainted over the bolts and two wooden brackets attached to the rear. £5000-7000 - Sold for £8200 to commission or postal bidder number 2521.

Allocated new to Cardiff East Dock on 12 October 1956 and later Radyr from where it was withdrawn on 23 October 1964 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Newport on 18 February 1965. Lot 219 A worksplate, COALBROOKDALE COMPANY, SHROPSHIRE. Although the Company has claimed to have built the first railway locomotive, for Richard Trevithick in 1802, this has never been established with any certainty. It did, however, build six 0-4-0STs in the 1880s for its own 2ft 4ins gauge system, one of which is preserved at Coalbrookdale. This plate is from one of the other five. Lot 222 A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 8144, REBUILT STRATFORD WORKS, 1937, from a Great Eastern Railway T77 Class 0-6-0 No 1144 built at Stratford in October 1916, becoming LNER J19 Class No 8144, renumbered 4654 in 1946, becoming BR 64654. It appears that the rebuilding in 1937 referred to on the plate consisted only of alterations to the grate and superheater dimensions. Lot 237 A shedplate, 10A Springs Branch, Wigan (1935 to February 1958), then Carnforth (September 1963 to August 1968). This ex LNWR shed at Wigan had over 50 locos during this period. The ex LNWR shed at Carnforth, formerly 11A and 24L, had just 3 Jubilees when it adopted this code, but its most famous charge was undoubtedly the last Britannia, 70013, which worked 1T57 on the final day of mainline steam. Lot 240 A nameplate, WEST COAST RAIL 250,from Class 90 90011. Named at Euston in April 2000 by Virgin Trains; the plates were removed in 2004. This was the second name carried; to date this loco has now had four different names. Cast aluminium, length 65½", ex loco condition. £400-600 - Sold for £860.

Lot 242 A worksplate, LMS BUILT 1940, CREWE. The only locos built by the LMS at Crewe in 1940 were streamlined Princess Coronation Class 8P 4-6-2s Nos 6240-4 which became BR 46240-4 and were named City of Coventry, City of Edinburgh, City of Glasgow, City of Lancaster and City of Leeds, the latter renamed King George VI in 1941. Lot 246 A worksplate ANDREW BARCLAY, 2008, 1935, from a standard gauge 0-4-0 fireless steam locomotive new to the Boots Pure Drug Co Ltd, Beeston, Nottingham as their No 2. Lot 249 A Pullman chair used on a car working on the East Coast Main Line, original blue moquette, with a little wear in places but generally good. This chair was purchased by the late Dick Hardy who used it in his study for over five decades. Hardy started work with the LNER as a premium apprentice, later becoming shedmaster at Woodford Halse and later Stratford. A fine example in its own right, its later history is the ownership of a prominent and much loved railwayman and author makes this a rather special item. £800-1200 - This lot did not sell at the auction. Lot 254 A nameplate, CUDWORTH, with REMEMBRANCE CLASS appendage below, from a London Brighton & South Coast Railway 4-6-4 Baltic tank No 330 built at Brighton in December 1921, becoming SR 2330 and BR 32330. In September 1934 it was reconstructed at Brighton as a 4-6-0 tender engine and re-classified to N15X Remembrance Class. At the same time it was named after James l'Anson Cudworth, the Locomotive Superintendent of the South Eastern Railway from 1845-76. In mid-1947 all of this small class of seven locos were allocated to Basingstoke and Cudworth was withdrawn from there in the week ending 13 August 1955 and cut up at Eastleigh Works by the following 24 September. Lot 260 A worksplate W.G. BAGNALL 2084, from a 3ft 0in gauge 0-4-0ST new in 1918 for the Ministry of Munitions for use by the Board of Trade Timber Supply Co. By September 1919 it was located at Longtown Sawmills, Longtown, Cumberland. Sold by auction in June 1924 to William Wear & Co Ltd. dealers of Hexham. They resold it around January 1925 to Dorman Long & Co Ltd. Port Clarence Works, Co. Durham, where it was overhauled and sent to work at Dorman Long�s Burley Ironstone Quarries, Oakham, Rutland. Resold around May 1929 to the Consett Iron Co Ltd, Butsfield Ganister Quarry, Co. Durham where it was scrapped in October 1951. Lot 262 A shedplate 4E Tredegar (1935 to 1949). This ex LNWR shed had an allocation of just 6 LNWR 0-8-0s while using this code. It was transferred from the LMR to WR in 1949, becoming 86K and closed in June 1960. Ex loco condition. £500-600 - Sold for £520.

Lot 263 A worksplate, NORTH BRITISH LOCOMOTIVE Co, HYDE PARK WORKS, 24712, 1941, from a Stanier type 2-8-0 built to Ministry of Supply order for the War Department in October 1941, WD No 504, later 70504. It was shipped new to Middle East Forces in Persia (Iran) as their No 41.159. On return to the UK in April 1948 it was sold to BR, becoming Class 8F No 48259. It spent most of its BR days at Mold Junction from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 26 June 1965 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Great Bridge on 19 October 1965. Lot 269 A worksplate LMS, BUILT 1907, ST ROLLOX. Locos built by the Caledonian Railway at St Rollox in 1907 were a 140 Class 4-4-0 No 923 which became BR 54438, 439 Class 0-4-4T numbered between 424 and 470, some of which survived into BR days numbered in the 551XX series and 782 Class 0-6-0T numbered between 128 and 669, all of which survived into BR days numbered in the 563XX series. Lot 271 A front or bunker numberplate, 1409, from a 5ft gauge Finnish State Railways Class Vr4 non-superheated 0-6-0ST built by Vulcan Iron Works, Works No 4639, in 1945. All 24 of the class were rebuilt into superheated 0-6-2Ts between 1950 and 1955 and re-classified Vr5. Cast brass, 26"x10", in ex loco condition. Lot 279 A South African Railways cabside numberplate, 3531, from a 3ft 6ins gauge Class 25 4-8-4 built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 27391, in 1954 and built with condensing apparatus. Almost the whole class had their condensing apparatus removed between 1979 and 1982, including No 3531, and were re-classified as Class 25NC with the NC initials added after the class on the cabside numberplate. Lot 287 A worksplate, NORTH BRITISH LOCOMOTIVE Co. 25190, 1943, from a War Department Austerity 2-8-0 built to Ministry of Supply order by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 25190, in May 1943, WD No 77310. Loaned new to the LMS, it was allocated to Polmadie, Carlisle Kingmoor and Wellingborough. It was returned to the WD in December 1944 and saw war service in Belgium. On returning to the UK in April 1947 it was loaned to the GWR and allocated to Neath Court Sart and Llanelly. It was then purchased by BR becoming No 90225. Its BR sheds included Ebbw Junction, Mexborough, Doncaster and Barrow Hill from where it was withdrawn on 11 April 1965 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Great Bridge on 29 June 1965. Cast white brass, 13¾"x5½", the front lightly cleaned. £150-300 - Sold for £200.

Lot 288 A signal box nameboard, PORTLAND, from the Weymouth to Easton branch which closed in 1965. Cast letters on replacement wood. £150-300 - Sold for £600.

Lot 289 A shed plate, 9A Longsight (1935 to February 1965). This ex LNWR shed was home to 130 locos in 1950, which included 13 Royal Scots, 15 Jubilees and 7 Patriots. Lot 290 A nameplate, PRINCE ALBERT, from the GWR 4000 Star Class 4-6-0 No 4042 built at Swindon in May 1913 and named after the second son of King George V who was to become King George VI. Lot 303 A late 19th or early 20th century wall-hanging, weight-driven, Scottish longcase regulator clock claimed ex-NBR from Dalmeny. Overall height: 61". Mahogany case with replacements and modifications, stripped and re-finished. Full-length panelled door with lock (no key) and shaped base. Forward sliding hood with top-hinged, glazed dial surround without sight ring. No evidence of the normal LNER Ivorine number plate. Brass plate to base of trunk engraved: Station clock from Dalmeny station Scotland c. 1890. 13" dial written Jas. Ritchie & Son Edinburgh with seconds ring. Substantial regulator movement with deadbeat escapement and Harrison�s maintaining power, fitted with slave drive (no corresponding hole in backboard), synthetic gut line and winding at 3 o�clock. It spent most of its BR days at March with spells at South Lynn, Bury St Edmunds and Norwich from where it was withdrawn on 11 February 1962 and subsequently scrapped. Lot 316 A shed plate, 5B Crewe South (1935 to November 1967). This ex LNWR shed was responsible for the freight locos serving the adjacent marshalling yards. Its allocation of 115 in 1959 was briefly enhanced by the arrival of 10 Jubilees in the early 60s. Between the summers of 1965 and 66 it was home to 24 Britannias out of a total allocation of 60 locos allocated. The front repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £190.

Lot 320 An East African Railway cabside numberplate, 2419, from a metre gauge 24 Class 4-8-0 built for the Uganda Railway, their GD Class No 180, later Kenya Uganda Railway Class EB3, still No 180. Lot 329 A GWR cabside numberplate, 1447, from a Collett 0-4-2T built at Swindon in April 1935 and originally numbered 4847 but renumbered 1447 in November 1946 as the 48xx series were required for 2-8-0 tender engines converted to oil burning. A long time Reading engine, it spent its later years at Oxford, Slough, Radyr, Croes Newydd, Hereford and Gloucester from where it was withdrawn on 17 March 1964 and cut up at Swindon Works during the four weeks ending 11 July 1964. Lot 338 A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, D, REBUILT STRATFORD WORKS 1909, from a Great Eastern Railway 204 Class 0-6-0T No 206 built by Ruston & Procter of Lincoln in 1868 and rebuilt as a crane tank for use at Stratford Works in 1893, together with two others of the same class Nos 204 and 205. In 1894 the three crane tanks lost their running numbers and were designated B, C and D in their former numerical order, No 206 becoming D. It was re-boilered in June 1909 when this rebuilt plate would have been fitted, and re-classified as Class J92 in 1927 but did not receive a LNER running number until 1946 when it became LNER No 8669, then BR 68669 in March 1950. It spent all its working life as a crane tank in and around Stratford Works and was withdrawn on 16 October 1950 and cut up at the Works. Lot 349 A smokebox numberplate, 32415, from a London Brighton & South Coast Railway E6 Class 0-6-2T No 415 built at Brighton in October 1905, becoming SR 2415 and BR 32415. A long time Bricklayers Arms engine, it spent a final few months at Dover from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 23 September 1961 and cut up at Ashford Works in the week ending 2 December 1961. Lot 354 A nameplate, MINORU, from the LNER A1 Class 4-6-2 No 2561 built at Doncaster, Works No 1617, in May 1925 and named after the racehorse owned by King Edward VII which won the 1909 Derby and 2000 Guineas. It was rebuilt and reclassified as an A3 in June 1944, renumbered 62 in 1946 and became BR 60062. Always a Southern area engine, it was allocated new to Gorton and later Doncaster, Grantham, Kings Cross, New England and Copley Hill. Lot 357 A classic early 20th century GWR 3½" French, brass drum clock in unusually good, complete condition possibly used at Tirydail. Overall height: 5" with feet and hanger. Case, lid and movement all stamped 4842. 8 Day, lever movement between round plates stamped with lion trademark. Dial written G.W.R. Kay & Co. Paris, indicating the retailers (actually of Worcester) while acknowledging its French manufacture. Lot 373 An LNER cab plate from A4 class 60004. Coasting Cut Off, When Regulator is Closed at Speeds Exceeding 25 MPH, The Gear Must be Put on 25% Cut Off. Lot 387 A signal box nameboard, KINNABER JUNCTION, the famous junction situated north of Montrose where the West Coast route from Euston, Perth and Forfar joins the East Coast route from Kings Cross, Edinburgh and Dundee. During the Victorian Railway Races to the North, at the height of East and West Coast competition for the Aberdeen traffic, the junction was a key point as the first train to approach Kinnaber was given the road north to Aberdeen. Lot 390 A ships bell and bridge wheel from the British Railway cross channel steamers, MAID OF KENT. The bell base diameter 6¾", lacking its clapper, on a wooden stand. The wheel 30" diameter with makers name Brown Brothers, Rosebank Ironworks, Edinburgh on the central boss. A plate added, Maid of Kent, Bridge Wheel, 1959-1972. Lot 397 A shedplate, 12B Carlisle Upperby (1935 to June 1950), then Carlisle Canal (June 1950 to July 1951), then Penrith (October 1955 to February 1958), and finally Carlisle Upperby (February 1958 to closure to steam January 1968). This code is probably best known for its use as Carlisle Upperby, the ex LNWR shed having around 90 locos at the height of its importance. The ex NBR shed at Canal had the distinction of having four A3s and five D49s carrying this LMR code among its 60 occupants. Lot 406 A worksplate, ROBERT STEPHENSON, 3634, DARLINGTON, 1915, from a 3'6" gauge 4-8-2 new to South African Railways as Class 14 No 1735. One of the 3rd batch of this powerful freight class which were later rebuilt with larger boilers to class 14R. 1735 was sold in the late 1970s to Rustenburg Platinum Mines at Bleskop for industrial use, but was out of use by 1983. It survived stored at Krugersdorp until scheduled for scrapping in 2010 due to vandalism and theft of parts. Allocated new to Crewe North on 16 November 1936, is later sheds included Edge Hill, Camden, Willesden and Annesley from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 3 October 1964 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Great Bridge on 14 January 1965. Numbered 3226 when built, it was renumbered 9026 in August 1946. Allocated to Oswestry by January 1948, it had brief spells at Machynlleth and Bristol Bath Road, before returning to Oswestry from where it was withdrawn on 7 August 1957 and cut up at Swindon Works in the four weeks ending 5 October 1957. Lot 433 A nameplate, EARL ROBERTS, from a War Department 4-4-2T, WD No 72400, which started life as a London, Brighton & South Coast Railway I2 Class tank No 13 built at Brighton in April 1908 which became SR No 2013. Condemned in January 1939, it was sent to Eastleigh Works along with sister engine 2019, but, because of the expected war, they were not broken up but stored in case further use could be made of them. This arose, although not in the manner anticipated, for, in October 1939, both were towed to Bournemouth shed and, with the aid of sandbags, converted into an air raid shelter. After permanent shelters were provided both were returned to Eastleigh where they came to the attention of the WD who purchased them both and, after overhaul at Ashford Works, this loco was renumbered 2400 and sent to Longmoor in April 1942 where it was renumbered 72400 and received its name, spending the rest of the war working local passenger trains to and from Longmoor. It was officially withdrawn in October 1946 and broken up in a siding at Guildford in July 1949. Cast brass, 50"x6½", the front repainted. £2500-3000 - This lot did not sell at the auction. Lot 449 A smokebox numberplate, 90192, from a War Department Austerity 2-8-0 built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 25093, in September 1943 to Ministry of Supply order, WD No 77222. It was loaned new to the LNER and allocated to Tyne Dock and Newport. It was returned to the WD in January 1947 and saw war service in France. On returning to the UK, it was loaned again to the LNER in August 1947, allocated to Eastfield, and then purchased by BR becoming No 90192. Its BR sheds included Cardiff Canton, Pontypool Road, Birkenhead, Widnes and Springs Branch from where it was withdrawn on 3 May 1963 and cut up at Crewe Works by 27 September 1963. Lot 474 A nameplate YORKSHIRE POST from Class 43 43193 which was named at Leeds City station in December 1983. This plate was removed in May 1991. Cast aluminium, 34¾", ex loco condition. £1000-1500 - Sold for £1100 to commission or postal bidder number 4295.

Lot 478 A BR(S) totem sign, CLAPHAM, (f/f), the station situated between Brixton and Wandsworth Road on the road south from Victoria. Chipping to the left end and a small face chip, some loss of shine. £300-500 - Sold for £430 to commission or postal bidder number 4934.

Lot 479 A Bulleid Pacific locomotive whistle with finial and base knuckle. Cast brass, 3" diameter, height 15". £400-600 - This item was withdrawn from the auction.

Lot 481 A shedplate, 73A Stewarts Lane (1950 to June 1962). This ex SECR shed had an allocation of over 100 locos during this period. Of note were 7 King Arthurs, 6 Schools 13 Bulleid Light Pacifics and 3 Merchant Navies. In June 1962 it was recoded 75D, and lost its steam allocation in September 1963. It is still a Repair and Maintenance depot for diesel and electric locos and a servicing point for steam locos. Ex loco condition, the back marked with the BR(S) Eastleigh triangle and 34091, the number of West County Class, Weymouth. £100-200 - Sold for £290.

Lot 482 A BR(S) totem sign, BOURNEMOUTH WEST, (f/f), from the town's terminus station served by services from Waterloo and the Somerset and Dorset route. Excellent condition. £900-1200 - Sold for £1250.00.

Lot 483 A GWR cabside numberplate, 6681, from a 5600 Class 0-6-2T built by Armstrong Whitworth, Works No 969, in October 1928. Allocated to Gloucester by January 1948, its later sheds included Hereford, Stourbridge, St Philips Marsh and Tyseley from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 9 October 1965 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Great Bridge on 18 December 1965. Cast brass, in ex loco condition. £400-600 - Sold for £680.

Lot 486 A smokebox numberplate, 92213, from a BR Standard Class 9 2-10-0 built at Swindon and allocated new on 22 October 1959 to Banbury where it spent all its working life except a final month at Carlisle Kingmoor from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 5 November 1966 and despatched for scrap to J. McWilliam at Shettleston on 27 January 1967. Ex loco condition. £400-600 - Sold for £1600.

Lot 487 A BR(M) totem sign, ST LUKES, (f/f), from the Southport to Preston and Wigan routes; the station closed in 1968. Edge chips and a small face chip repainted. £500-800 - Sold for £400.

Lot 488 A worksplate BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON, 1016, 1953, from a batch of eighteen 3ft 6in gauge diesel electric locomotives supplied to the Western Australian Government Railway, numbered Y1106. The class was first used on suburban services around Perth and latterly on shunting and branch line work. Scrapped at an unknown date. Cast brass, 11"x6", the front cleaned but unpainted, the back marked Y1106. £150-300 - Sold for £360.

Lot 491 A smokebox numberplate, 47602, from a LMS Class 3F 0-6-0T No 16685 built by Beardmore, Works No 350, in 1928, renumbered 7602 in 1934, becoming BR 47602. Allocated to Speke Junction by January 1935 and later Crewe South, Alsager, Carlisle Upperby, Bury, Fleetwood and Skipton from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 8 January 1966 and despatched for scrap to T.W. Ward at Killamarsh on 22 April 1966. Repainted. £250-400 - Sold for £410 to commission or postal bidder number 1170.

Lot 493 A shedplate 88H Tondu (January 1961 to March 1964) Formerly 86F, this ex GWR shed housed around 40 locos during the early 1960s. Ex loco condition. £100-200 - Sold for £120.

Lot 495 A shedplate 52A Gateshead (1949 to June 1965 for steam, May 1988 totally). By the end of the 1950s this shed had a star studded allocation of 90 locos, including 8 A4s, 13 A3s, 14 A1s, 4 A2s, 2 Antelope B1s and 2 named V2s. After closure to steam some of its diesel allocation carried this style of code, which was often made of brass. Ex loco condition. £100-200 - Sold for £110.

Lot 497 A worksplate, NORTH BRITISH LOCOMOTIVE Co, 25049, 1943, from a War Department Austerity 2-8-0 built in July 1943 to Ministry of Supply order, WD No 7178, later 77178. Loaned new to the LNER as their Class O7, it was allocated to Thornton Junction, returning to the WD in December 1944, and loaned again to the LNER in September 1947, allocated to Annesley, before being purchased by BR in December 1949, becoming No 90162. Its BR sheds included Immingham, New England, Langwith Junction and Canklow from where it was withdrawn on 24 February 1964 and subsequently scrapped. Cast white brass, 13¾"x5½", the front repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £200.
