A nameplate, OBERON, from a London & North Western Railway Precursor Class 4-4-0 No 2164 which became LMS 5277 and was renumbered 25277, withdrawn in August 1946. It was named after the Mythical King of the Fairies, the husband of Titania. Engraved brass, 50¼" with additional stamping, Superheated, 1/13. The original purchase receipt, to H. C. Casserley, dated 1946, accompanies the lot. £7000-8000 |
