A smokebox numberplate, 90192, from a War Department Austerity 2-8-0 built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 25093, in September 1943 to Ministry of Supply order, WD No 77222. It was loaned new to the LNER and allocated to Tyne Dock and Newport. It was returned to the WD in January 1947 and saw war service in France. On returning to the UK, it was loaned again to the LNER in August 1947, allocated to Eastfield, and then purchased by BR becoming No 90192. Its BR sheds included Cardiff Canton, Pontypool Road, Birkenhead, Widnes and Springs Branch from where it was withdrawn on 3 May 1963 and cut up at Crewe Works by 27 September 1963. The front repainted. £350-500 |
