A GWR cabside numberplate, 9026, from a 9000 Earl Class 4-4-0 built in June 1939 using the original frames of the earlier Bulldog Class 4-4-0 No 3390 and replacing the scrapped Duke Class 4-4-0 No 3270. Numbered 3226 when built, it was renumbered 9026 in August 1946. Allocated to Oswestry by January 1948, it had brief spells at Machynlleth and Bristol Bath Road, before returning to Oswestry from where it was withdrawn on 7 August 1957 and cut up at Swindon Works in the four weeks ending 5 October 1957. Cast brass, the front repainted. £700-1000 |
