A nameplate, SIR IRONSIDE, from the SR N15 King Arthur Class 4-6-0 No 799 built at Eastleigh in July 1926 and named after the Noble Knight of the Red Launds in Arthurian Legend, becoming BR 30799. A long time Bricklayers Arms loco, it moved in June 1959 to Salisbury from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 25 February 1961 and cut up at Eastleigh Works the following 23 March. Cast brass, the front repainted. £6000-8000 |
