A worksplate, BR-E, 60039, DONCASTER, 1934, from a LNER A3 Class 4-6-2 No 2504 built at Doncaster, Works No 1794, in September 1934, and named SANDWICH after the racehorse owned by Lord Rosebery which won the 1931 St Leger. It was renumbered 39 in 1946 and became BR 60039. Allocated new to Gateshead in September 1934, it moved the following year to Doncaster and later Grantham, Leicester and Kings Cross from where it was withdrawn on 14 March 1963 and despatched for scrap to Doncaster Works on 3 April 1963. Cast brass, 9"x5", the front repainted. £800-1200 |
