| Lot 181 | A nameplate, CASTLE HEDINGHAM, from an LNER B2 Class 4-6-0 No 2814 built at Darlington in October 1930 as a B17, and named after the village near Halstead in Essex where the Norman Hedingham Castle is located. It was rebuilt and re-classified to B2 Class in November 1946 and re-numbered 1614 the following month, becoming BR 61614. As a result of the rebuilding, the centre splasher supporting the nameplates was removed, so metal plates were fitted to the top of the running plate to which the nameplates, with their rear fixing brackets removed, were bolted directly. It was at Colchester by January 1948 and later Cambridge from where it was withdrawn on 8 June 1959 and cut up at Stratford Works. Cast brass, length 59¼", the front repainted over the bolts and two wooden brackets attached to the rear. £5000-7000 |
