Lot 1 A BR(NE) doorplate, ENQUIRIES AND RESERVATIONS, (f/f), enamel, 18"x6", minor rim chips and a small flake from the lower right screw hole. £300-500 - Sold for £1650.

Lot 2 An Isle of Wight Railway silver plated toast rack made by Walker and Hall, the top marked with the company garter. £250-400 - Sold for £600 to commission or postal bidder number 4323.

Lot 3 A signal box nameboard, NORTH WOOTTON, from the Kings Lynn to Hunstanton route which closed in 1969. Cast letters on wood, length 86", original condition. £250-400 - Sold for £600.

Lot 4 A GWR signal box shelf plate, LLANGOLLEN LINE JC. The junction was south of Ruabon station where the route to Barmouth diverged. Engraved brass, 4¾"x1½". £100-200 - Sold for £320.

Lot 5 A BR(S) totem sign, SITTINGBOURNE AND MILTON REGIS, (f/f), from the Gravesend to Canterbury route. A few minor blemishes. £400-600 - Sold for £820.

Lot 6 A Tyers No 1 single line tablet, CROSS KEYS BRIDGE, (brass/steel) from the Spalding to Kings Lynn section of the Midland and Great Northern Joint Line, this section closing to freight in 1965. £250-400 - Sold for £520 to commission or postal bidder number 2997.

Lot 7 A locomotive whistle from a class 71 electric locomotive, complete with base valve, feed pipe and bracket. Cast brass, height 9¼", chromed body, some evidence of BR blue paint. £300-500 - Sold for £320.

Lot 8 An early station direction sign, TO ICKENHAM METRO STATION, ELECTRIC TRAINS TO ALL PARTS. The station was on the Metropolitan Railway's Uxbridge branch. Double-sided enamel, 22"x9". £400-600 - Sold for £1050.

Lot 9 A single line key token, CLIFFORD SIDINGS-ETTINGTON, (alloy), from the Stratford on Avon and Midland Junction route which closed to passengers in 1952 and freight in 1966. £150-300 - Sold for £260.

Lot 10 A London and South Western Railway guard's pocket watch, by the American Waltham Watch Co, the back of the outer case clearly engraved LSWR, PASSENGER, 347. In running order. £200-350 - Sold for £180.

Lot 11 A South African Railways cabside numberplate 3522 from a 3ft 6 ins gauge Class 25 4-8-4 built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 27382, in 1954 with condensing apparatus. Most had their condensing apparatus removed between 1979 and 1982, including No 3522, and were re-classified to Class 25NC. Cast brass, 20¾"x14½", the front repainted. £500-800 - Sold for £600 to commission or postal bidder number 3586.

Lot 12 A fingerboard, ALL STATIONS TO BANGOR (EXCEPT ABER), painted wood, 60"x6", original condition. £150-300 - Sold for £100.

Lot 13 A GWR signal box lever plate, 92, TO CREWE ADVCD START'G (SLOT), from a box on the Wellington to Nantwich route. Engraved brass, length 5½". £250-400 - Sold for £300.

Lot 14 A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 8568, REBUILT STRATFORD, 1916, from a Great Eastern Railway Class R24, LNER J69/1, 0-6-0T, built at Stratford in January 1896, GER No 392, LNER 7392, renumbered 8568 in 1924, becoming BR 68568. Although the loco was rebuilt in 1904, we cannot trace any further rebuilding in 1916 as shown on this plate, although Stratford were well known for their liberal interpretation of what constituted a rebuild. The loco was at St Margarets by 1948 and later at Aberdeen Ferryhill and Kittybrewster before returning to England in 1952, first at Lincoln, then Norwich, Plaistow and Stratford from where it was withdrawn on 8 May 1958 and cut up at Stratford Works. Cast brass, 9"x5", the front repainted. £200-350 - Sold for £230.

Lot 15 A BR(Sc) totem sign, GALASHIELS, (h/f), from the Waverley route which closed in 1969. Minor edge rust repainted. £400-600 - Sold for £2000.

Lot 16 A smokebox numberplate, 2278, from a GWR 2251 Class 0-6-0 built at Swindon in September 1934. A long time Worcester engine, it moved in 1955 to Gloucester and in 1957 to Goodwick from where it was withdrawn on 14 September 1959 and sold for scrap from Swindon Works to Round Oak Steelworks at Round Oak on 5 February 1960. Repainted. £250-400 - Sold for £300.

Lot 17 A destination plate from the Waterloo departure indicator, WIMBLEDON, enamel, 17"x2½", on its wooden block. Some chipping above the letter 'O' and at the base. - Sold for £190 to commission or postal bidder number 1650.

Lot 18 A wagonplate, HALL & CO, OWNERS, VICTORIA WHARF, CROYDON. The company had gravel pits and quarries at Merstham, with their rail connected yards at Victoria Wharf where several industrial locos were based. Cast iron, 14½"x9", the front repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £150.

Lot 19 A GWR nameboard, POOL QUAY SIGNAL BOX, from the Oswestry to Welshpool route which closed in 1965. Cast iron, length 72", original condition. £500-800 - Sold for £650.

Lot 20 A Metropolitan Railway signal box door notice, untitled, signed by John Bell, Managing Directors Office, 32 Westbourne Terrace. Enamel, 10"x7", minor edge rust repainted. £250-400 - Sold for £520 to commission or postal bidder number 3403.

Lot 21 A GWR double track Level Crossing Ground Frame Indicator with repeating bell mounted on the top of the mahogany case, fine ex service condition. £200-350 - Sold for £580.

Lot 22 A Londonderry and Lough Swilly wagon registration plate, L&LSR NO 3, 1932. Cast iron, 9"x6½", original condition. £150-300 - Sold for £320 to commission or postal bidder number 782.

Lot 23 A BR(Sc) totem sign, HERIOT, (f/f), from the Waverley route which closed in 1969. A little loss of shine though colour good. £500-800 - Sold for £1550.

Lot 24 A Barrow Steamship Company double royal poster, SCOTLAND & ISLE OF MAN, via English Lakeland and Barrow in Furness. A colourful poster featuring the steamer Duchess of Devonshire. Laid down to conserve. £250-400 - Sold for £700.

Lot 25 A worksplate, BRUSH TRACTION, 1092, 1995 from Class 92 92034 currently running as 88034 in Bulgaria. Cast aluminium, 9¾"x5¾", in ex loco condition. £250-400 - Sold for £1050.

Lot 26 A BR(S) doorplate, LADIES ROOM, (f/f), enamel, 18"x6", minor rusting to the edge of the rim. £150-300 - Sold for £220.

Lot 27 A London Transport target sign, OXFORD CIRCUS, enamel within brass frame, 24¼"x19¾", mounted on a wooden backboard. £500-800 - Sold for £1550 to commission or postal bidder number 7378.

Lot 28 A shedplate 88B Cardiff East Dock (1949 to March 1958), then Radyr (October 1960 to July 1965). The former GWR depot at East Dock was home to 60 locos in the 1950s which included an exotic collection of antiquated tank engines. The depot was run down and lost its allocation in 1958, but was to rise from the ashes in September 1962, now coded 88L, when it inherited all of Cardiff Cantons steam allocation; Castles, Halls, Granges and Manors now graced the shed. Ex GWR shed Radyr had taken this code over in 1960 which had around 50 locos during this period. Repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £320 to commission or postal bidder number 7378.

Lot 29 A GWR lamp tablet, HORSEHAY AND DAWLEY, from the Wellington to Buildwas route. The station closed in 1962. Enamel, 17¼"x3", chipping top right and at left end. £250-400 - Sold for £580.

Lot 30 A London and South Western Railway china milk jug, height 3". £50-80 - Sold for £140.

Lot 31 A smokebox numberplate, 42941, from a LMS Class 4 2-6-0 No 13241 built at Crewe in 1932, renumbered 2941 in 1934, becoming BR 42941. Its BR sheds were Nuneaton, Crewe South, Speke Junction, Mold Junction, Birkenhead and Stockport from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 8 May 1965 and despatched for scrap to Central Wagon Co at Wigan on 30 July 1965. Ex loco condition. £250-400 - Sold for £480.

Lot 32 A Dinorwic Quarries Railway trespass notice in English and Welsh language. Enamel, 23"x17", in excellent condition. £300-500 - Sold for £580.

Lot 33 A worksplate, SHARP STEWART, 4047, 1894, from a Barry Railway B1 Class 0-6-2T No 76 built in December 1894. After the Railway and its locos was absorbed by the GWR in 1922, it became GWR No 258. At Cardiff Cathays by January 1948 and then Barry from where it was withdrawn on 24 November 1949 and cut up at Swindon Works by 16 May 1953. Cast brass, 9¾"x6", the front repainted, the back stamped 258. £400-600 - Sold for £520.

Lot 34 An LSWR three aspect handlamp, with brass makers plate JOHN & EDWIN WRIGHT, UNIVERSE WORKS, LONDON & BIRMINGHAM, also LSWR Co embossed brass plate and location plate NEWTON TONEY. The station was on the branch to Amesbury and Bulford which closed to passengers in 1952. The spelling was altered to Newton Tony in October 1903. The lamp is complete and probably repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £480.

Lot 35 A Mashonaland Railway cabside numberplate, 112, from a 9th Class 4-8-0 built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 21475, in 1917 for the Beira & Mashonaland and Rhodesia Railways which became part of Rhodesia Railways in 1927. This loco was one of four of the class not reboilered and all were sold to the Zambesi Sawmills Railway in 1963-4. It was still in service at Livingstone in 1973. Cast brass, 19¼"x13", the front repainted. £300-500 - Sold for £660 to commission or postal bidder number 4403.

Lot 36 An early Southern Railway lamp tablet, AXMINSTER, from the West of England main line. Glass within its original wooden frame, 18"x6½", original condition. The station had no targets or conventional totems. £250-400 - Sold for £780.

Lot 37 A London and North Western Railway 8" roundhead wall clock, the original face marked BR(LM) JOHN WALKER, 1 SOUTH MOLTON ST, LONDON, 15510, a brass nameplate, LMS 15510, on the right side. Complete with fusee movement, pendulum and key and lock and key to lower door. Good original condition. £500-800 - Sold for £400 to commission or postal bidder number 8545.

Lot 38 A GWR pre-grouping doorplate, TICKET COLLECTOR, cast iron, 23¾"x3½", in original condition. £150-300 - Sold for £340.

Lot 39 A worksplate, BAGNALL, 2442, from a GWR 5700 Class 0-6-0PT No 8745 built in June 1931. Allocated to Westbury by January 1948, it moved the following July to Yeovil Pen Mill and in January 1959 to Yeovil Town, moving in November 1963 to Bath on the Somerset & Dorset Joint line, finishing its days at Gloucester from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 21 August 1965 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Newport on 22 December 1965. Cast brass, 8"x5½", the front cleaned and lettering repainted. £350-500 - Sold for £720.

Lot 40 An LNER double royal poster, YORK, THE SHAMBLES, by H. Tittensor. Laid down to conserve, a little dusty to the border. £250-400 - Sold for £180.

Lot 41 A Southern Railway signal box plunger, BASINGSTOKE WEST, brass case with enamel ring. £100-200 - Sold for £500.

Lot 42 A nameplate METEOR first carried by the LMS Royal Scot Class 4-6-0 No 6128, named after a pioneer engine built by Robert Stephenson for the Liverpool & Manchester Railway. When No 6128 was renamed THE LOVAT SCOUTS the nameplates were transferred to the newly built Jubilee Class 5XP 4-6-0 No 5734 on 11 November 1936 and it became BR 45734. Allocated new to Crewe North its later sheds included Longsight, Bushbury, Carlisle Upperby and Carlisle Kingmoor from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 28 December 1963 and cut up at Crewe Works by 17 April 1964. Cast brass, length 34½", the front repainted. £6000-8000 - Sold for £8200.

Lot 43 A wagonplate, REPAIRS ADVISE FRANCIS T. WRIGHT, BAGTHORPE, NOTTINGHAM. Cast iron, 8¼"x4½", the front repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £160.

Lot 44 A tenderplate, G.W.R. 2268 SWINDON, 3500 GALLONS, from a Collett pattern flush-bottom tender which, although used with other classes, were associated mainly with Halls, Saints and, latterly, Granges. Cast iron, 8¼"x6", the front repainted. £250-400 - Sold for £460 to commission or postal bidder number 7378.

Lot 45 An LSWR locomotive whistle from an M7 class locomotive number 254. 3¼" diameter, complete with base valve and operating rod. £300-500 - Sold for £800 to commission or postal bidder number 9058.

Lot 46 A single line key token, LLANBRYNMAIR-CEMMES ROAD, (cast steel/engraved brass), from the Moat Lane to Machynlleth section of the Cambrian main line. £150-300 - Sold for £190.

Lot 47 A London and South Western Railway ship captain's cap badge featuring the company's coat of arms. £50-80 - Sold for £140.

Lot 48 A Manchester South Junction & Altrincham Railway trespass notice, 24½"x11¾", in original condition. £150-300 - Sold for £250.

Lot 49 A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY 4812, DARLINGTON, 1929, from a LNER J39 Class 0-6-0 No 1418 built at Darlington in December 1929, renumbered 4812 in 1946, becoming BR 64812. Allocated to Darlington by January 1948 and later Blaydon, Gateshead, Tyne Dock and Sunderland from where it was withdrawn on 3 December 1962 and cut up at Darlington Works. Cast brass, 9"x5", in ex loco condition. £150-300 - Sold for £200.

Lot 50 A Rhymney Railway bridgeplate, WALNUT TREE, 3, cast iron, 13"x11", the front repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £270.

Lot 51 A South African Railways cabside numberplate 4082 from a 3ft 6ins gauge Class GMAM 4-8-2+2-8-4 Beyer Garratt built by Beyer Peacock, Works No 7680, in 1956, the second M indicating that the engine was designated for main line duties. The Class was withdrawn from regular service from 1984. Cast brass, 20¾"x14½", the front repainted. £500-800 - Sold for £540.

Lot 52 A signal box nameboard, ABERGELE, from the Chester to Holyhead main line. Cast letters on wood, length 40", replacement beading, the front repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £190.

Lot 53 A cash bag with brass plate, NBR, STOBS STN, from the Riccarton Junction to Hawick section of the Waverley route which closed in 1966. £150-300 - Sold for £450.

Lot 54 A set of departure indicator plates from Reading Southern, (a) READING - TRAINS FROM THIS STATION, 44¾"x14½", (b) EARLEY, WINNERSH HALT, WOKINGHAM, (c) BRACKNELL, listing stations to Waterloo, each 21¾"x18½", all enamel, the second with chipping to the top right corner. £350-500 - Sold for £220.

Lot 55 An LNER four aspect handlamp with brass plate LNER HAWTHORNE BANK, a box at Spalding. The lamp is complete with its interior and is in original condition. £100-200 - Sold for £70.

Lot 56 A single line key token, BORTH-LlANDRE, (cast steel/engraved brass), from the Dovey Junction to Aberystwyth route. £150-300 - Sold for £260.

Lot 57 A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 60896, DARLINGTON, 1940 from a LNER V2 Class 2-6-2 No 4867 built at Darlington in February 1940, renumbered 898 in 1946, becoming BR 60896. Allocated to Doncaster by January 1948 and later Ardsley and Grantham before returning to Doncaster from where it was withdrawn on 23 September 1962 and cut up at the Works nearby. This was one of six V2s loaned to the Southern Region at Nine Elms from 14 May 1953 until 28 June 1963 following the temporary withdrawal of the whole Merchant Navy Class for their driving axles to be examined. Cast brass, 9"x5", the front repainted. £350-500 - Sold for £420.

Lot 58 A BR(M) totem sign, TAMWORTH, (f/f), from the station on the Trent Valley main line and Birmingham to Derby route. Mottling and a chip repair in the upper panel. £300-500 - Sold for £600.

Lot 59 A shedplate, 66B Motherwell (1949 to July 1967). This ex CR shed was home to 115 locos during the 1950s. By 1965 this number had reduced to just 20. The front repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £320.

Lot 60 A Southern Railway notice, PLEASE PULL CHAIN AFTER USING URINAL, (flangeless), enamel, 10"x6", two tiny face chips, otherwise excellent. £150-300 - Sold for £520 to commission or postal bidder number 3509.

Lot 61 A smokebox numberplate, 60886, from a LNER V2 Class 2-6-2 No 4857 built at Darlington in November 1939, renumbered 886 in 1946, becoming BR 60886. Allocated by January 1948 to Heaton where it spent most of its working life with brief spells at Tweedmouth and Gateshead before moving in December 1962 to York from where it was withdrawn on 10 April 1966 and sold for scrap to Clayton Davie at Gateshead. The front repainted. £500-800 - Sold for £920.

Lot 62 A GWR signal box lever plate, 11, No 1 DEPARTURE BAY TO DOWN RELIEF START'G. Engraved brass, length 12". £150-300 - Sold for £1100.

Lot 63 A traction engine nameplate, FRIENDSHIP, engraved brass, 23½" wide, 3¼" deep, lightly polished. £150-300 - Sold for £220.

Lot 64 A 4¼" gauge model coal wagon, CARLTON COLLIERIES ASSOCIATION, overall length 19½", with working handbrakes, sprung buffers and opening doors. £250-400 - Sold for £600.

Lot 65 A nameplate, TREMORFA STEELWORKS, from Class 37 37711. New to Gateshead as D6785 in December 1962; named at Cardiff Tidal Sidings in November 1988. Plates removed in January 1993 and transferred to Class 56 56073 in March 1993. Withdrawn from Thornaby in June 2002 and cut up by EMR at Kingsbury in April 2012. Cast aluminium, length 73¾". £800-1200 - Sold for £1100 to commission or postal bidder number 7237.

Lot 66 A GWR signal box shelf plate, FROM FARNHAM ROAD AVOIDING LINE. The box was between Slough and Burnham on the Paddington to Reading main line. Engraved brass, 4¾"x1½". £100-200 - Sold for £100.

Lot 67 A Southern Railway target sign, MALDEN, from the Wimbledon to Surbiton section of the Southern main line. The station was renamed New Malden in 1957. This is the first example to be offered at auction. Some chips at the edge but generally ex station condition with original backboard. £400-600 - Sold for £960.

Lot 68 A GWR nameboard, PLEALEY ROAD WEST GROUND FRAME, from the Minsterley branch, west of Shrewsbury, which closed to passengers in 1951 and freight in 1967. Cast iron. £200-350 - Sold for £290.

Lot 69 A wagonplate, REPAIRS ADVISE J.B. BEADMAN SONS & CO WAGON BUILDERS, KEIGHLEY. Cast iron, 9¼"x6", in original condition. £100-200 - Sold for £120.

Lot 70 A BR(Sc) totem sign, GLENGARNOCK, (f/f), from the Glasgow to Ayr route. Loss of shine. £250-400 - Sold for £500 to commission or postal bidder number 8668.

Lot 71 A carriage board, WREXHAM - BALA, used on the northern end of the Ruabon to Barmouth route which closed to passengers in 1964. Painted wood, length 32", a little wear to one side. £100-200 - Sold for £120.

Lot 72 A Tyers No 6 single line tablet, OTTERHAM-CAMELFORD, (brass/steel), from the North Cornwall Line which closed in 1966. The face is stamped OUT OF USE. £200-350 - Sold for £420 to commission or postal bidder number 2582.

Lot 73 A smokebox numberplate, 58066, from a Midland Railway 1823 Class 0-4-4T No 2020 built by Dubs & Co, Works No 1840, in 1892, renumbered 1368 in 1907, retaining this number in BR days, and becoming BR 58066. Its BR sheds were Derby, Skipton and Royston from where it was withdrawn on 2 October 1958 and cut up at Crewe Works by 23 September 1959. Repainted. £300-500 - Sold for £1000 to commission or postal bidder number 9066.

Lot 74 A station sign, G.W.R. PARK HALL HALT, from the Oswestry to Gobowen route which closed to passengers in 1966. Cast letters on wood,28"x17", some beading and back replaced, the front repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £750.

Lot 75 A wagonplate, YORKSHIRE RAILWAY WAGGON CO LD WAKEFIELD OWNERS NO 179. Engraved brass, 6"x3¾", the front lightly polished. £100-200 - Sold for £160.

Lot 76 A BR(W) totem sign, KINGHAM, (h/f), from the Oxford to Worcester route, once junction for Banbury and Cheltenham. Edge rusting repainted. £350-500 - Sold for £500.

Lot 77 A Midland Railway gate boss displaying the company's early coat of arms, 12½"x13", cast in lead, the front repainted. £200-350 - Sold for £420.

Lot 78 A shedplate 88J Aberdare (September 1960 to March 1965). This ex GWR shed was originally coded 86J. Under its new code it housed nearly 50 locos. Repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £150.

Lot 79 A signal box nameboard, WIMBLINGTON, from the Cambridge to St Ives and March route. The box closed in 1967. Cast letters on wood, length 70", original condition. £150-300 - Sold for £480 to commission or postal bidder number 2521.

Lot 80 A nameplate, KING'S COURIER, from a Peppercorn A1 Class 4-6-2 No 60144 built at Darlington, Works No 2063, in March 1949 and named in January 1951 after the racehorse, owned by Mr J.A. Drake which won the 1900 Doncaster Cup. Allocated new to Doncaster on 8 March 1949 and later Copley Hill, Kings Cross, Ardsley and Grantham with a final five years or so back at Doncaster from where it was withdrawn on 30 April 1963 and cut up at the nearby Works. Cast brass, length 71", the back marked with the names of a number of other locos. £8000-10000 - This lot did not sell at the auction. Lot 81 A brass nameplate, GOOLE STEAM SHIPPING-LONDON MIDLAND AND SCOTTISH RAILWAY, advertising the Antwerp to Goole services and displaying the LMS coat of arms and shipping flag. Engraved brass, 17½"x42½". The Goole Steamship Company was founded in 1864 and acquired by the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway in 1905, passing to the LMS in 1923, becoming part of the Associated Humber Lines in 1935. £300-500 - Sold for £660 to commission or postal bidder number 248.

Lot 82 A GWR cabside numberplate 5368 from a 43XX Class 2-6-0 built at Swindon in June 1919. Modified with a heavier front buffer beam and renumbered 8368 in February 1928, it reverted to its original condition and running number in June 1944. Allocated to Neyland by January 1948 and later Gloucester, Laira, Westbury and Reading from where it was withdrawn on 25 September 1958 and cut up at Swindon Works in the week ending 8 November 1958. Cast iron, the front repainted. £300-500 - Sold for £340.

Lot 83 A destination plate from the Brighton departure indicator, PLYMOUTH FRIARY. Enamel, 12"x1½", blue lettering. £150-300 - Sold for £160.

Lot 84 A worksplate BRUSH/HAWKER SIDDELEY, 948, 1990, from Class 60 60046 WILLIAM WILBERFORCE named after the slavery reformer. New to Stewarts Lane in February 1991,and now stored OOS at Toton. Engraved aluminium, 9¾"x5¾", in ex loco condition. £250-400 - Sold for £1500.

Lot 85 A North Eastern Railway armband, NER JARROW STATION, No 2, OUT PORTER, an unusual shield shaped design, engraved brass, 2"x2", complete with original strap and buckle. £150-300 - Sold for £290.

Lot 86 A worksplate ROBERT STEPHENSON & HAWTHORNS, 7052 of 1942. From a standard gauge 0-4-0ST which went new to Imperial Chemical Industries Ltd, Agricultural Division, Mossend, near Motherwell, Lanarkshire. This factory closed in December 1967 and the locomotive scrapped on site by Fermac Limited around July 1968. Cast brass, 13"x8½", the front lightly cleaned but unpainted. £100-200 - Sold for £210.

Lot 87 A Great Eastern Railway three aspect handlamp, the top stamped YARMOUTH SOUTH TOWN, 31. The lamp is complete with its interior and GER vessel and has been repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £320.

Lot 94 A smokebox numberplate, 6800, from a GWR Grange Class 4-6-0, the Class leader built at Swindon in August 1936 and named ARLINGTON GRANGE after a former country house near Thatcham, Berkshire. Allocated to Landore by January 1948, it spent most of its BR days at Penzance before moving in 1962 to Ebbw Junction from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 13 June 1964 and sold for scrap to Birds Commercial Motors at Risca on 18 August 1964. Lot 95 A station direction sign, SOUTHERN ELECTRIC, complete with bracket. Enamel, double-sided, 20"x15", one side excellent the other has a few small chips. £250-400 - Sold for £900.

Lot 96 A worksplate, YORKSHIRE ENGINE Co, 2220, 1928, from a LNER N2/3 Class 0-6-2T No 2682 built in September 1928, renumbered 9588 in 1946, becoming BR 69588. Allocated to Hatfield by January 1948, it spent its BR days alternating between there and Kings Cross. Withdrawn from Hatfield on 29 February 1960, it was cut up at Stratford Works. Lot 97 A North Eastern Railway cash bag with brass plate, N.E.R, ACKWORTH MOOR TOP, a goods station on the Brackenhill Light Railway which opened in 1914 to serve Hemsworth Colliery. £100-200 - Sold for £50.

Lot 99 A worksplate, ARMSTRONG WHITWORTH, 1392, 1937, from a LMS Class 5 4-6-0 No 5337 which became BR 45337. Allocated new to Blackpool Central on 30 March 1937 and later Newton Heath, Bank Hall, Low Moor, Agecroft from October 1947 until August 1963, Southport and Carlisle Kingmoor from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 6 February 1965 and despatched for scrap to Woodham Bros at Barry on 25 November 1965 from where it was rescued for preservation and now resides at the North Norfolk Railway. Cast brass, 8¼"x5", the front lightly cleaned, a neat repair to the right bolt holes, almost invisible. £150-300 - Sold for £120.

Lot 100 A Midland Railway captains chair, with turned supports and the company initials carved in the top rail. £200-350 - Sold for £300.

Lot 101 A GWR cabside numberplate, 6854, from a 6800 Grange Class 4-6-0 built at Swindon in November 1937 and named ROUNDHILL GRANGE after the country house near Wincanton in Somerset. Allocated to Banbury by January 1948, its later sheds included Oxley, Oxford and Tyseley from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 25 September 1965 and sold for scrap to Birds Commercial Motors on 28 October 1965. Lot 107 A shedplate, 65B St. Rollox (1949 to November 1966). The ex CR shed was noted for being home to all four named Black 5s in the early 1950s when its allocation numbered around 80 locos. Lot 108 An LNER station sign, WATTON AT STONE, (flangeless). The station, which was at the north end of the Hertford loop, opened in 1924 and closed in 1939. Enamel, 60"x16 ½", some edge chips repainted and blemishes to the face. £200-350 - Sold for £500 to commission or postal bidder number 7416.

Lot 111 A worksplate, BEYER PEACOCK, 1906, from a collection of plates from British based locos, so this plate is likely to be from a 4-6-0 built for the Great Central Railway in 1906 either BP 4806-4815 that became LNER Class B9, GCR numbers 1105-1114, or BP 4816-4825 that became LNER Class B4, GCR numbers 1095-1104, examples of both classes surviving into the late 1940s. Also there were two 4-4-0’s built in 1906 for the Great Northern Railway of Ireland, BP 4736 & 4737 which were numbered 106 and 107 and when the GNR(I) was wound up in 1958 106 went to the CIE and 107 to the UTA, with the latter withdrawn in 1958. Lot 113 An LNWR three aspect handlamp, the side stamped THRAPSTONE PT WAY, complete with interior and LNWR ceramic burner and in original condition. Lot 114 A smokebox numberplate, 6137, from a GWR 6100 Class 2-6-2T built at Swindon in October 1932. Lot 118 A worksplate, HAWTHORN LESLIE, 3336, 1918, from a standard gauge 0-4-0ST which went new to Vickers Ltd, Barrow-in-Furness, Lancashire, named VENUS. Sold in April 1962 to Thos. W. Lot 119 A Southern Railway target sign, STREATHAM COMMON, from the Clapham Junction to East Croydon section of the Brighton main line. Considerable restoration though rare, no examples having been offered at auction previously. £250-400 - Sold for £240.

Lot 120 A nameplate, AYLBURTON GRANGE, from a GWR 6800 Grange Class 4-6-0 No 6801, the second of the Class built at Swindon in August 1936 and named after a Monastic Grange near Dymock in Gloucestershire attached to Llanthony Abbey. It spent all its BR days at Penzance from where it withdrawn on 27 October 1960, the first of the Class to go, and was cut up at Swindon Works in the week ending 26 November 1960. Lot 124 A smokebox numberplate, 33013, from a SR Bulleid Q1 Class 0-6-0 No C13 built at Brighton in October 1942, becoming BR 33013. Allocated to Guildford by January 1948, it moved the following March to Feltham from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 6 July 1963 and despatched for scrap to George Cohen at Kettering on 23 March 1964. Lot 126 A shedplate 87E Landore (1949 and closed to steam June 1961). This ex GWR shed had 70 locos on its books at the end of the 1950s, which included 20 Castles. Upon closure the depot was demolished and a purpose built diesel depot opened in 1963, when some locos carried these plates before the introduction of alloy examples. Alloy, repainted. £200-300 - Sold for £340.

Lot 128 A worksplate, LMS BUILT 1926, ST ROLLOX from a Class 60 4-6-0 designed by Pickersgill for the Caledonian Railway, LMS No 14648 becoming BR 54648. It spent most of its brief BR career based at Hamilton from where it was withdrawn on 21 November 1951 and cut up at Kilmarnock Works. Cast brass, 10½"x6", repainted. £200-350 - Sold for £270.

Lot 131 An LNER lamp tablet, FILEY HOLIDAY CAMP, the terminus of the short branch from the Hull to Scarborough route built to serve Butlins. The station closed in 1977. Enamel, double-sided, 16"x5½", restoration to the name Filey on both sides, expertly undertaken. £100-200 - Sold for £380.

Lot 132 A set of cabside figures, D7067, from Class 35 Hymek, Beyer Peacock 7971 of 1963. New to Cardiff Canton in February 1963; withdrawn from there in October 1971 and cut up at Swindon Works in August 1972. Mounted on an aluminium backplate, 23¾"x8". £250-400 - Sold for £400.

Lot 133 A North Eastern Railway Westinghouse section indicator, also known as a No Block Recorder, used on goods lines. An uncommon instrument, this example was used at Potters Grange box. £100-200 - Sold for £1150.

Lot 134 A GWR cabside numberplate 2853 from a 2800 Class 2-8-0 built at Swindon in February 1913. Converted to oil burning and renumbered 4810 in November 1947, it reverted to its original number when the oil burning apparatus was removed in June 1949. Allocated to St Philips Marsh by January 1948 and later Banbury, Croes Newydd, Southall, Stourbridge and Reading from where it was withdrawn on 7 May 1962 and cut up at Swindon Works in the week ending 22 September 1962. Lot 135 A BR(W) totem sign, WARGRAVE, (f/f), from the Twyford to Henley-on-Thames branch. One tiny chip repair on the upper cream line, almost invisible. £400-600 - Sold for £1300 to commission or postal bidder number 2848.

Lot 136 A nameplate, NIM, together with its matching number plate, Lysaght’s Scunthorpe Wks No 12. Both from a standard gauge 0-6-0 diesel hydraulic, Sentinel 10108 of 1963 which went new to John Lysaght’s Normanby Park Steelworks, Scunthorpe. Became British Steel Corporation in July 1967. Overhauled by Thomas Hill at Kilnhurst in 1977 and transferred to Tinsley Park Works, Sheffield in 1978. Subsequently operated as a hire locomotive by a number of companies until scrapped by EMR at Kingsbury in August 2017. (2) £350-500 - Sold for £250.

Lot 138 A worksplate, NORTH BRITISH LOCOMOTIVE Co, QUEEN'S PARK WORKS, 22037, 1918, from a Robinson Great Central Railway type 2-8-0 built to Ministry of Munitions order for the Railway Operating Division of the Royal Engineers in November 1918, ROD No 1979. It was loaned to the LNWR in September 1919, their No 2893, and, after return to the WD in August 1921, stored at Queensferry until sold to the LNER in February 1925, entering traffic in January 1926 as their Class O4 No 6523, renumbered 3837 in 1946, becoming BR 63837. Allocated to Langwith Junction by January 1948 and later Tuxford, Immingham and Colwick from where it was withdrawn on 29 December 1962 and sold for scrap to Round Oak Steelworks at Round Oak. Cast brass, 12¾"x9¾", the front repainted. £350-500 - Sold for £400.

On the formation of South African Railways in 1910, it became their Class 7B No 1037. Many of the Class were still at work in the late 1960s but all were withdrawn by 1972. Lot 162 A nameplate, ISINGLASS, from the LNER A1 Class 4-6-2 No 2562 built at Doncaster, Works No 1618, in July 1925 and named after the racehorse which won flat racing's triple crown of Derby, 2000 Guineas and St. Leger in 1893. It was rebuilt and re-classified to A3 Class in April 1946 and at the same time renumbered 531, only to be renumbered three months later to 63, becoming BR 60063. Allocated to Doncaster by January 1948 and later Kings Cross, Grantham, Neasden on the Great Central for two years, and finally New England from where it was withdrawn on 28 June 1964 and sold for scrap to A. King at Norwich on 26 August 1964. The nameplate is accompanied by a good quality wooden display splasher. Cast brass, length 57". Lot 164 A smokebox numberplate, 48113, from a LMS Class 8F 2-8-0 No 8113 built at Crewe and allocated new to Warwick on 7 March 1939. Lot 179 A GNR three aspect handlamp with brass plate LNER SHAFTHOLME JUNCTION. The junction was situated north of Doncaster. The lamp is complete with GNR interior, stamped top and has been repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £100.

Lot 201 A nameplate COUNTY OF DORSET from the 1000 County Class 4-6-0 No 1013 built at Swindon in February 1946 and named in January 1947. Allocated to Bristol Bath Road by January 1948, it spent most of its BR days at Shrewsbury with spells at Laira, Truro, Penzance, Stafford Road and Swindon from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 18 July 1964 and sold for scrap to Cashmores at Newport on 4 September 1964. A long time Pontypool Road engine, it was withdrawn from there on 21 January 1963 and cut up at Stafford Road Works in the week ending 16 March 1963. Lot 219 A shedplate 88C Barry (1949 to September 1964). This ex Barry Rly shed was home to over 80 locos in the early 1950s but by 1960 this had dwindled to just 25. Lot 235 An LBSCR three aspect handlamp, with brass company nameplate and steel plate GROOMBRIDGE PER WAY on top and body. Complete with interior and S(B)R vessel, repainted. The station was on the Tunbridge Wells to Eridge route. £250-400 - Sold for £320.

Lot 236 A 19th century eight day pine longcase clock by James Ritchie of Edinburgh, as supplied to Scottish companies. 12" dial, complete with pendulum with wooden rod, and cast iron weight. The clock has been fully restored and is in running order. £500-800 - Sold for £400.

Lot 237 An LNER lamp tablet, ALNWICK, (f/f), the terminus of the short branch from Alnmouth on the East Coast Main Line. It closed in 1968. Enamel, 16"x5", minor rim chips only. £150-300 - Sold for £520.

Lot 238 A Mutoscope (or What The Butler Saw) machine as once seen at seaside piers in Victorian and Edwardian times. The cast iron body and detachable display frame stand 76" high. A brass plate lists patents 1895-1900, property of American Mutoscope & Biograph Co, New York. The machine, which is in working order, is electrically lit and takes a 6d coin. It is operated by winding a brass handle to view dancing girls through a glass aperture. When the top display, with its replacement card advert, is removed the height is 55". £3000-4000 - This lot did not sell at the auction. Lot 239 A worksplate, AVONSIDE ENGINE Co, BRISTOL, 1874, 1921, from a standard gauge 0-4-0ST new to the Bombay Investment Trust in India. On returning to the UK it was sold by T.W. Ward of Grays to APCM Crown & Quarry Works in Kent, where it was scrapped or sold for scrap in about 1964. Cast brass 11"x 6½", in ex loco condition. £200-350 - Sold for £220.

Lot 255 A worksplate, BEYER PEACOCK, 1915. Judging by the deceased vendor's collecting interests, this is most likely to be South African. The only locomotives Beyer Peacock supplied to South Africa in 1915 were Class 14B 4-8-2’s 1746-1760, Beyer Peacock 5877-5891, although some are listed as 1914. In 1915 Beyer Peacock also supplied locomotives to most countries in South America, together with The Netherlands and one to Ireland. Cast brass, 9¾"x5¾", the front repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £80.

Lot 257 A (GWR) cabside numberplate 7907 from a 6959 Modified Hall Class 4-6-0 built at Swindon and named HART HALL after the Hall in Oxford which is attached to Hertford College. Allocated new to St Philips Marsh on 5 January 1950, it spent almost its whole life there and the other Bristol sheds, Bath Road and Barrow Road, moving at the very end to Oxford from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 4 December 1965 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Newport on 6 July 1966. Lot 258 An LNER station sign, HARPENDEN, (flangeless), from the Welwyn Garden City to Dunstable route. The station became Harpenden East in 1950 and closed in 1965. Enamel, 41¼"x10¼", edge chips repainted. £300-500 - Sold for £480.

Lot 262 An LNER, North British pattern, three aspect handlamp, the side stamped FOG SIGNALMAN, LONDON ROAD JUNCTION (EDINBURGH). The lamp is complete with its interior and is in original condition. £150-300 - Sold for £330 to commission or postal bidder number 705.

Lot 263 A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 8120, COWLAIRS, 1899, from a North British Railway Class G 0-4-0ST No 308 built in July 1899 which became LNER Y9 Class No 9308 and was renumbered 8120 in 1946, becoming BR 68120. A long time Kipps engine, it was withdrawn from there on 10 August 1955 and subsequently scrapped. Lot 265 An 8" dial drop case wall clock with fusee movement, the dial lettered BR 6561. LNER/BR clock records and a note on the inside of the side door show this was the clock from Wylam signalbox on the Newcastle and Carlisle line. Lot 266 A worksplate, ROBERT STEPHENSON & HAWTHORNS, 7813 of 1954, from a standard gauge 0-4-0ST which went new to Associated Portland Cement Manufacturers Ltd, Holborough Chalk Quarry, Snodland, Kent, named TUMULUS. In 1972 it moved to the adjacent Holborough Cement Works where it was scrapped in August 1974. Cast brass, 13"x8½", the front repainted; the wording has circular Os instead of the more usual oval style. £150-300 - Sold for £160.

Lot 267 A Southern Railway target sign, EXETER CENTRAL, a rare longer example with the name on one line. These were only used on the concrete lamp post at the far end of Platform 3. The surface is a little mottled as it was at this point that up expresses changed engines. Lot 281 A North British Railway three aspect handlamp by Bulpitts, the side stamped N.B.R. LUTHRIE. Complete with interior and in original condition. Lot 282 A nameplate, EVERTON, from the LNER B17 Class 4-6-0 No 2863 built by Robert Stephenson & Co, Works No 4125, in February 1937, renumbered 1663 in 1946, becoming BR 61663. Allocated to Cambridge by January 1948, it moved to Stratford in June 1953 and to Colchester in December 1958, returning in November 1959 to Stratford from where it was withdrawn on 20 February 1960 and cut up at Doncaster Works. Lot 284 A GWR cabside numberplate, 3823, from a 2884 Class 2-8-0 built at Swindon in May 1940. Allocated to Cardiff Canton by January 1948 and later St Philips Marsh Southall, Oxford, Neath Court Sart and Severn Tunnel Junction from where it was withdrawn on 2 July 1965 and sold for scrap to Birds Commercial Motors at Long Marston on 25 August 1965. Cast iron, £400-500 - Sold for £400.

Lot 285 A brass 6" dial lever movement GWR ships clock, with wooden wall mounting plate. Although the dial is lettered BR S, the Southern Region latterly absorbing Weymouth and the port's railway shipping, this is a GWR origin clock. As fitted in the bridge of the GWR's Weymouth - Channel Islands cargo vessels, either TSS Roebuck or TSS Sambur, which ship is unclear. When detached from the wood mounting plate, close inspection of the rear of the rim at the XX:45 position shows a scratched-in and feint number 'GW 4089'. On the top of the drum are four screws where the ivorine number plate would be located. The clock is complete with key and is in working order. £400-600 - Sold for £560 to commission or postal bidder number 2618.

Lot 286 A worksplate, SHARP STEWART, 3727, 1891, from a London Chatham & Dover Railway R Class 0-4-4T No 204 built in October 1891. It became part of the South Eastern & Chatham Railway as their No 663 in January 1912 and was reboilered in October 1915, becoming SR 1663 and BR 31663. Allocated to Gillingham by January 1948, it moved in February 1953 to Faversham, returning three months later to Gillingham from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 20 June 1953 and subsequently scrapped. It was one of the Halls converted to oil burning in June 1946 and renumbered 3950, reverting to its original condition and number in October 1948. Allocated to Bristol Bath Road by January 1948, its later sheds included Landore, Oxford and Bristol Barrow Road from where it was withdrawn on 30 April 1965 and sold for scrap to Birds Commercial Motors at Risca on 2 June 1965. Lot 319 A 3½" gauge live steam locomotive, GWR Castle class 4-6-0, 4079, PENDENNIS CASTLE. A well detailed working model with early tender. Coal fired with working inside cylinders and eccentric gear, and copper boiler. Nicely detailed cab and backhead with sight glass, pressure gauge, reverser, regulator and firebox door all working. Tender with hand operated water pump, all sprung buffers. Beautifully built by Severn Lamb, superb condition throughout, has been test fired only. Length 49½", in wood and glass showcase with display track and descriptive plaque. Lot 322 A nameplate HINDERTON HALL from a GWR 4900 Hall Class 4-6-0 No 5900 built at Swindon in March 1931 and named after the country house near Neston in Cheshire, once the home of GWR Director Sir Percy Bates. Allocated to Westbury by January 1948 and later Tyseley, Oxley and St Philips Marsh from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 30 November 1963 and sold to Woodham Bros at Barry on 30 April 1964. Rescued for preservation by members of the Great Western Society, it went to Didcot Railway Centre in 1971 and is currently at Didcot awaiting overhaul after considerable main line service. £4000-5000 - Sold for £3800.

Later became British Steel Corporation and transferred to the Special Steels Division at Ickles Works, Rotherham as their No 6. Around April 1972 it was transferred to Redpath Engineering Ltd, Cambuslang, Glasgow, still as No 6. Scrapped in April 1987. Lot 336 A worksplate, SENTINEL, 9371, from a standard gauge 100HP chain-drive geared steam locomotive supplied in 1947 to Sheffield Corporation Electricity Department at Neepsend Power Station, numbered N2. In 1965 sent to Thomas Hill (Rotherham) Ltd, Kilnhurst, Yorkshire where the frame and wheelsets were used in the building of a Thomas Hill Vanguard diesel-hydraulic locomotive, the steam parts being scrapped. Lot 345 A signal box slot indicator, GARNQUEEN SOUTH. The box was on the historic Monkland and Kirkintilloch route opened in 1826, the junction for the Caledonian to Larbert. Cast iron, 9"x10", original condition. £150-300 - Sold for £100.

Lot 346 A worksplate ROBERT STEPHENSON & HAWTHORNS, 7099 of 1943. From a standard gauge Austerity 0-6-0ST numbered 75063 which went new to the War Department at Shoeburyness, Essex. Transferred to Tidworth Depot, Hampshire in April 1947 and subsequently worked at a number of other Army depots, latterly with the running number 125. In February 1957 it was transferred to the WD Shropshire & Montgomeryshire Railway. In March 1960 it went to Bicester Depot, from where it was sold in October 1960 to the NCB at Tredegar workshops, Monmouthshire. Transferred to Elliott Colliery, New Tredegar in 1964 and then to Celynon South Colliery, Abercarn in 1967. To Maerdy Colliery, Maerdy later in 1967. Allocated new to Crewe North on 2 December 1935 and later Longsight, Camden, Bushbury, Patricroft, Derby and Burton from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 21 December 1963 and cut up at Crewe Works by 31 January 1964. Lot 358 A shedplate 85D Kidderminster (1949 to September 1960) then Bromsgrove (September 1960 to September 1964). Ex GWR shed Kidderminster housed 20 locos in the 1950s, and then Bromsgrove, ex LMS shed (21C, then 85F) adopted the code and had 17 locos allocated in early 1964. Lot 360 A worksplate, ENGLISH ELECTRIC, ROBERT STEPHENSON & HAWTHORNS, 1734/E7490, 1951, from a New Zealand Government Railways Class EW 1800hp Bo-Bo-Bo articulated electric loco No EW 1804, one of seven built to serve Wellington's suburban system. It entered service in October 1952, was renumbered EW 159 in about 1978, withdrawn in 1983, written off at Woburn Railway Workshops, Wellington on 28 February 1987 and scrapped in about July 1987 at Seaview Sims Pacific Steel. Lot 361 A worksplate, ROBERT STEPHENSON & HAWTHORNS, 7739 of 1952, from a standard gauge 0-6-0ST which went new to the National Coal Board at Seaton Delavel locomotive sheds, Northumberland as No 40. In April 1959 it was transferred to NCB Ladysmith Washery and Railways, Whitehaven, Cumberland. Sent to Walkden Workshops, Manchester in March 1967 and scrapped there November 1968. Lot 363 A Rhodesia Railways cabside numberplate, 69. Two RR locos were numbered 69 at different times and it is likely that both carried the same numberplates. First was an 8th Class 4-8-0 built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 19359, in 1910 for the Beira & Mashonaland and Rhodesia Railways. It became part of Rhodesia Railways in 1927 and this loco was renumbered 76. It was sold to the Zambesi Sawmills Railways in 1938 and was last reported abandoned at Mulobezi. The second loco was a 7th Class 4-8-0 built by Neilson Reid, Works No 5791, in 1900 which was also sold to the ZSR and is currently preserved in Livingstone Museum. Cast brass, 19¼"x13¼", repainted, the back marked 390. £300-500 - Sold for £720 to commission or postal bidder number 4403.

Its BR sheds were Gloucester, Bath, when it worked on the Somerset & Dorset Joint line, Saltley, Kentish Town, Wellingborough, Toton, Hasland and Westhouses from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 12 December 1964 and despatched for scrap to T.W. Loaned new to the LNER and allocated to Colwick, it was returned to the WD in November 1944 and loaned to the GWR in May 1947, allocated to Neath Court Sart. Its later sheds were Llanelly, Rose Grove, Newton Heath, Aintree, Springs Branch and Frodingham from where it was withdrawn on 3 October 1965 and cut up by Drapers at Hull in the week ending 22 January 1966. At one time it had 18 Castles, 3 Counties, 1 star, 11 Halls, 2 Granges , 4 Manors and last but not least, 10 Kings. A long time Bradford Bowling Junction loco, it moved in January 1958 to Low Moor from where it was withdrawn on 22 February 1960 and cut up at Doncaster Works. Lot 402 A worksplate, HUNSLET ENGINE CO, 2895 of 1943, from a standard gauge Austerity 0-6-0ST numbered 5046 and later 75046. New in January 1944 to the War Department, Longmoor Military Railway, Hampshire. Later in 1944 it moved to Stratton Engineers Stores Depot, Swindon where it worked until sold in 1947 to the NCB for use at Granville and Hollinswood Collieries, Oakengates, Shropshire. It became LNER J72 Class, still numbered 1741, and was renumbered 8685 in 1946, becoming BR 68685. Allocated to West Hartlepool by January 1948, it moved in April 1956 to West Auckland from where it was withdrawn on 3 October 1960 and cut up at Darlington Works. There is no record of any rebuilding in 1945 as shown on the plate so this may have been no more than a boiler change. Cast brass, 9"x5", the front repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £180.

When the Treorchy system closed in 1970 it was transferred to the Maesteg Railways system. Lot 431 A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY 7110, REBUILT STRATFORD, 1913, from a Great Eastern Railway M15 Class 2-4-2T No 110 built at Stratford in January 1906 and rebuilt with a higher pressure boiler in July 1913. It became LNER F5 Class No 7110 and was renumbered 7211 in 1946, becoming BR 67211. It spent all its BR days at Stratford from where it was withdrawn on 31 October 1956 and subsequently scrapped. Lot 433 A smokebox numberplate, 44596, from a LMS Class 4F 0-6-0 built at Derby and allocated new to Crewe South on 17 November 1939. Becoming BR 44596, its sheds were Northampton, Workington, Stoke, Carlisle Upperby, Buxton and Sutton Oak from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 17 August 1963 and cut up by T.W. Ward at Barrow on 25 July 1964. Repainted. £250-400 - Sold for £250.

Lot 435 A GWR cabside numberplate 7231 from a 7200 Class 2-8-2T rebuilt at Swindon in December 1935 from an earlier 4200 Class 2-8-0T No 5266 built in March 1926. A long time Ebbw Junction engine, it moved to Barry in September 1962 and later Radyr and Llanelly from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 3 October 1964 and sold for scrap to Steel Supply (Western) at Swansea on 19 November 1964. Lot 442 A nameplate, SAINT BERNARD, from a GWR 2900 Saint Class 4-6-0 No 2917 built at Swindon in August 1907 and named when built, probably after the Twelfth Century Cistercian Abbot of Clairvaux in France, an order which founded over fifty religious houses in England and Wales. Allocated new to Old Oak Common, it was withdrawn from Cardiff Canton in October 1934 and cut up at Swindon Works. £4000-6000 - Sold for £3500 to commission or postal bidder number 2661.

Lot 446 A worksplate, LMS BUILT 1884, ST ROLLOX, from a Caledonian Railway 294 Class 0-6-0 No 682 which was acquired in November 1917 by the Railway Operating Division of the Royal Engineers, ROD No 5682, but re-purchased by the CR in July 1919 and renumbered 1682. It became LMS 17271 and BR 57271. Allocated to Ayr from at least 1935 until moving in April 1950 to Polmadie from where it was withdrawn on 2 October 1961 and sold for scrap to J.N. Connell at Coatbridge. Cast brass, 10½"x6", the front repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £320.

Lot 448 A shedplate 21A Saltley (1935 to September 1963). This ex MR shed was home to almost 200 locos in the early 1950s. By the time it was recoded 2E in 1963, it still had 100 locos on its books. It finally closed to steam in March 1967. The front repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £250.

Lot 450 A smokebox numberplate, 47385, from a LMS Class 3F 0-6-0T No 16468 built by Vulcan Foundry, Works No 3956, in 1926. Renumbered 7385 in 1934, it became BR 47385. A long time Edge Hill engine, it moved in 1958 to Bescot and later Monument Lane and Nuneaton before spending a final twenty months as a shunter at Wolverton Works from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 28 March 1964 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Great Bridge on 14 October 1964. Allocated to Polmont by January 1948 and later Grangemouth and Parkhead from where it was withdrawn on 11 January 1962 and cut up at Inverurie Works on 2 February 1962. Lot 468 A South African Railways cabside numberplate 1539 from a 3ft 6ins gauge Class 12A 4-8-2 built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 21757, in 1919. The Class was the first design to originate from the SAR after its formation and was designed for goods traffic, mainly coal trains. All were withdrawn during the 1980s. Cast brass, 20¼"x14", in ex loco condition. £300-500 - Sold for £330.
