A nameplate, SAINT BERNARD, from a GWR 2900 Saint Class 4-6-0 No 2917 built at Swindon in August 1907 and named when built, probably after the Twelfth Century Cistercian Abbot of Clairvaux in France, an order which founded over fifty religious houses in England and Wales. Allocated new to Old Oak Common, it was withdrawn from Cardiff Canton in October 1934 and cut up at Swindon Works. £4000-6000 |
