A nameplate, ISINGLASS, from the LNER A1 Class 4-6-2 No 2562 built at Doncaster, Works No 1618, in July 1925 and named after the racehorse which won flat racing's triple crown of Derby, 2000 Guineas and St. Leger in 1893. It was rebuilt and re-classified to A3 Class in April 1946 and at the same time renumbered 531, only to be renumbered three months later to 63, becoming BR 60063. Allocated to Doncaster by January 1948 and later Kings Cross, Grantham, Neasden on the Great Central for two years, and finally New England from where it was withdrawn on 28 June 1964 and sold for scrap to A. King at Norwich on 26 August 1964. The nameplate is accompanied by a good quality wooden display splasher. Cast brass, length 57". (See also next Lot) £8000-9000 |
