A nameplate, KING'S COURIER, from a Peppercorn A1 Class 4-6-2 No 60144 built at Darlington, Works No 2063, in March 1949 and named in January 1951 after the racehorse, owned by Mr J.A. Drake which won the 1900 Doncaster Cup. Allocated new to Doncaster on 8 March 1949 and later Copley Hill, Kings Cross, Ardsley and Grantham with a final five years or so back at Doncaster from where it was withdrawn on 30 April 1963 and cut up at the nearby Works. Cast brass, length 71", the back marked with the names of a number of other locos. £8000-10000 |
