Auction Catalogue: Great Central Railwayana, 7 September 2019
Lot 285 |
A brass 6" dial lever movement GWR ships clock, with wooden wall mounting plate. Although the dial is lettered BR S, the Southern Region latterly absorbing Weymouth and the port's railway shipping, this is a GWR origin clock. As fitted in the bridge of the GWR's Weymouth - Channel Islands cargo vessels, either TSS Roebuck or TSS Sambur, which ship is unclear. When detached from the wood mounting plate, close inspection of the rear of the rim at the XX:45 position shows a scratched-in and feint number 'GW 4089'. On the top of the drum are four screws where the ivorine number plate would be located. The clock is complete with key and is in working order. £400-600 |
