A nameplate METEOR first carried by the LMS Royal Scot Class 4-6-0 No 6128, named after a pioneer engine built by Robert Stephenson for the Liverpool & Manchester Railway. When No 6128 was renamed THE LOVAT SCOUTS the nameplates were transferred to the newly built Jubilee Class 5XP 4-6-0 No 5734 on 11 November 1936 and it became BR 45734. Allocated new to Crewe North its later sheds included Longsight, Bushbury, Carlisle Upperby and Carlisle Kingmoor from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 28 December 1963 and cut up at Crewe Works by 17 April 1964. Cast brass, length 34½", the front repainted. £6000-8000 |
