Auction Catalogue: Great Central Railwayana, 7 September 2019
Lot 408 |
A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 8685, REBUILT DARLINGTON, 1945, from a North Eastern Railway Class E1 0-6-0T No 1741 built at Darlington in March 1899. It became LNER J72 Class, still numbered 1741, and was renumbered 8685 in 1946, becoming BR 68685. Allocated to West Hartlepool by January 1948, it moved in April 1956 to West Auckland from where it was withdrawn on 3 October 1960 and cut up at Darlington Works. There is no record of any rebuilding in 1945 as shown on the plate so this may have been no more than a boiler change. Cast brass, 9"x5", the front repainted. £150-300 |
| This lot sold for £180. |
