A nameplate HINDERTON HALL from a GWR 4900 Hall Class 4-6-0 No 5900 built at Swindon in March 1931 and named after the country house near Neston in Cheshire, once the home of GWR Director Sir Percy Bates. Allocated to Westbury by January 1948 and later Tyseley, Oxley and St Philips Marsh from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 30 November 1963 and sold to Woodham Bros at Barry on 30 April 1964. Rescued for preservation by members of the Great Western Society, it went to Didcot Railway Centre in 1971 and is currently at Didcot awaiting overhaul after considerable main line service. £4000-5000 |
