A GWR cabside numberplate, 5955, from the 4900 Hall Class 4-6-0 built at Swindon in December 1935 and named GARTH HALL, the location of which is not stated in Swindon records but is most probably a country house north of Welshpool demolished in 1947. It was one of the Halls converted to oil burning in June 1946 and renumbered 3950, reverting to its original condition and number in October 1948. Allocated to Bristol Bath Road by January 1948, its later sheds included Landore, Oxford and Bristol Barrow Road from where it was withdrawn on 30 April 1965 and sold for scrap to Birds Commercial Motors at Risca on 2 June 1965. Cast brass, the front repainted. Sold with an 00 gauge model and photo/slides of the loco and booklet on oil fired locos. £900-1200 |
