A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 60896, DARLINGTON, 1940 from a LNER V2 Class 2-6-2 No 4867 built at Darlington in February 1940, renumbered 898 in 1946, becoming BR 60896. Allocated to Doncaster by January 1948 and later Ardsley and Grantham before returning to Doncaster from where it was withdrawn on 23 September 1962 and cut up at the Works nearby. This was one of six V2s loaned to the Southern Region at Nine Elms from 14 May 1953 until 28 June 1963 following the temporary withdrawal of the whole Merchant Navy Class for their driving axles to be examined. Cast brass, 9"x5", the front repainted. £350-500 |
