Lot 1 A Dinorwic Quarries Railway notice, DINORWIC QUARRYMEN'S TRAIN, RULES & REGULATIONS FOR THOSE USING THE RAILWAY, 1895, dual language. Enamel in original frame, overall 24¾"x20", excellent condition, just one tiny face chip. £300-500 - Sold for £460.

Lot 2 A Tyers No 1 single line tablet, STURMINSTER-SHILLINGSTONE, (fibre/steel), from the southern end of the Somerset and Dorset route which closed in 1966. £250-400 - Sold for £780.

Lot 3 A set of Midland Railway eye sight testing equipment in its original case marked Engineers Dept Skipton, comprising a wooden stand from which a set of coloured wools hang, each with lead weight, a wooden baton with patterns of black dots and two wooden covers, one for each eye. £200-350 - Sold for £420.

Lot 4 A Midland Railway signal lever plate, POINTS IN DOWN SIDING TO PROVENDER STORES. Engraved brass, 14¼"x2¾" £100-200 - Sold for £280.

Lot 5 A signal box diagram, MELTON CONSTABLE WEST, 1948, showing the station and routes to Kings Lynn, Cromer, Norwich and Yarmouth. The diagram is in its original frame, overall 43"x16¼". £300-500 - Sold for £780.

Lot 6 A Great Northern Railway three aspect handlamp, complete with interior and brass plate COLWICK LOCOMOTIVE JUNCT. Repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £380.

Lot 7 A smokebox numberplate, 80006, from a BR Standard Class 4 2-6-4T built at Brighton. Allocated new on 24 November 1952 to Polmadie where it spent most of its working life except for a brief stay at Beattock and a final four years at St Margarets from where it was withdrawn on 2 September 1966 and sold for scrap to Shipbreaking Industries at Faslane. The plate is accompanied by its BR receipt. Repainted. £400-600 - Sold for £400.

Lot 8 A signal box nameboard, OLD OAK JUNCTION, the box situated between Willesden Junction and Bollo Lane. Cast letters on wood, 73", original condition. £250-400 - Sold for £320.

Lot 9 A station sign, SCOTCH TOURIST TICKETS, ALL CLASSES, displayed over a booking office window at one of the larger English stations. Enamel within wooden frame, overall 30"x9½", excellent condition. £200-350 - Sold for £380.

Lot 10 A Wirral Railway wagon registration plate, 12 TONS, NO 36, 1912. Cast iron, 8½"x6¼", the front repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £260.

Lot 11 A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 2796, REBUILT, STRATFORD WORKS, 1912, from a Great Eastern Railway Class T26 2-4-0 No 1257 built at Stratford in July 1902 and renumbered 414 in 1920. It became LNER Class E4 No 7414 and was renumbered 2796 in 1946, becoming BR 62796. Allocated to Cambridge by January 1948, it moved in June 1949 to Norwich, returning in July 1955 to Cambridge from where it was withdrawn on 13 May 1957 and subsequently scrapped. We have been unable to establish the nature of the rebuilding referred to on the plate, not an uncommon feature of Stratford 9x5s. Cast brass, 9"x5", unpainted. £200-350 - Sold for £680 to commission or postal bidder number 764.

Lot 12 A single line key token, BAMPTON-TIVERTON, (alloy), from the northern section of the Exe Valley line which closed in 1963. The key is in its small GWR steel/alloy carrier. £150-300 - Sold for £460 to commission or postal bidder number 3564.

Lot 13 A North Eastern Railway doorplate, STATION MASTER'S OFFICE. Enamel, 20"x8", chipping at top left and centre fixings only. £150-300 - Sold for £180.

Lot 14 A Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway three aspect handlamp, the body and top stamped M&GNJR, with brass plate 612, THURSFORD, a station between Melton Constable and Fakenham which closed in 1959. Repainted. £300-500 - Sold for £540 to commission or postal bidder number 2997.

Lot 15 A Kent and East Sussex Railway gate notice, K&ESR, SHUT THIS GATE, PENALTY FOR LEAVING OPEN 40 SHILLINGS. Engraved brass, 8¾"x2", lightly polished. £250-400 - Sold for £760.

Lot 16 An LMS lamp tablet, HAY, from the Hereford to Three Cocks route. The station closed in 1962. Enamel, 17"x4½", excellent condition. £250-400 - Sold for £380 to commission or postal bidder number 2507.

Lot 17 A GWR level crossing indicator for up and down lines, the usual small block bell mounted on top. Excellent original condition. £200-350 - Sold for £420.

Lot 18 An English, Welsh & Scottish Railways cast emblem comprising Lion, Dragon and Stag, carried by 37401. Cast brass, 26"x14½", in ex loco condition with original maroon and yellow paintwork. £500-800 - Sold for £1250.

Lot 19 A Southern Railway target sign, EAST GRINSTEAD, from the Oxted to Lewes route, the southern section closing in 1958 after which the station became the branch terminus. The sign is on its original backboard, edge chipping/rusting as is usual. £300-500 - Sold for £300.

Lot 20 A worksplate, SHARP STEWART, 4687, 1900, from a South Eastern & Chatham Railway C Class 0-6-0 No 715 built in December 1900. It became SR 1715 and BR 31715 and spent most of its BR days at Faversham before moving in June 1959 to Stewarts Lane from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 11 November 1961 and cut up at Ashford Works in the week ending 2 December 1961. Cast brass, 9¾"x6", lightly cleaned but unpainted. £300-500 - Sold for £360.

Lot 21 A GWR signal lever plate, 51, HORSE LANDING TO LOOP/FROM DOWN PLATFORM LINE. Engraved brass, length 6½". £150-300 - Sold for £420.

Lot 22 A nameplate, BIDEFORD, together with its WEST COUNTRY CLASS scroll,from the Southern Railway West Country Class 4-6-2 light pacific No 21C119 built at Brighton in December 1945, becoming BR 34019 and retaining its original streamlined casing to the end. Allocated new to Exmouth Junction and later Nine Elms, Brighton, Feltham, Eastleigh and finally back to Nine Elms from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 18 March 1967 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Newport on 11 September 1967. Cast brass, length 63", the front repainted. £9000-12000 - Sold for £8600 to commission or postal bidder number 7541.

Lot 23 A BR(S) totem sign, WATERINGBURY, (f/f), from the Paddock Wood to Gravesend route. Two small edge chips neatly restored. £350-500 - Sold for £620.

Lot 24 An LNWR & GWR Joint Railway three aspect handlamp with brass plate L&NW and GWR, TFC DEPT, HOOTON, a station on the Chester to Birkenhead route, the body also stamped LNWR HOOTON, TFC. Repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £400.

Lot 25 A shedplate 34A Kings Cross (1948 to June 1963). Top shed was home to over 160 locos in the early 50s, including no fewer than 17 A4s, the majority of which remained there until closure. Ex loco condition. £300-500 - Sold for £520 to commission or postal bidder number 4072.

Lot 26 A Tyers No 6 single line tablet, SIDMOUTH JUNCTION-OTTERY ST MARY, (brass/steel), from the Sidmouth Junction to Sidmouth and Exmouth branch which closed in 1966. £250-400 - Sold for £600.

Lot 27 A worksplate, HUDSWELL CLARKE & CO LTD, No 847, 1908, from a Rhymney Railway 0-6-0T No 112 built in July 1908. When the Railway was absorbed by the GWR in 1922 with its locos, it became GWR No 609 and was renumbered GWR 94 under the 1946 renumbering scheme. It was withdrawn from Cardiff East Dock on 17 May 1954 and cut up at Swindon Works in the four weeks ending 9 October 1954. Engraved brass, 6"x4½", the front cleaned, the back stamped 94. £300-500 - Sold for £1200.

Lot 28 An LNWR route indicator with combined bell, three plungers to the left side of the case and indicators TO TRAP SIDING, TO CREWE and TO WARRINGTON. The case is clearly stamped LNWR. Overall height 29". £350-500 - Sold for £300.

Lot 29 A shedplate 84F Stourbridge Junction (1949 to September 1963). This ex GWR shed was home to 85 locos in the 1950s, but by the time it was taken into the LMR as 2C in 1963 this number had dwindled to 35. The shed finally closed in July 1966. Repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £220.

Lot 30 A single line key token, SKILLINGTON RD-STAINBY, (brass), from the Stainby branch, part of the ironstone railway system stretching from Highdyke on the East Coast Main Line to Colsterworth and Sproxton. £100-200 - Sold for £440.

Lot 31 A smokebox numberplate, 42178, from a (LMS) Class 4 2-6-4T built at Derby and allocated new to Lostock Hall on 26 November 1948. Its later sheds included Watford, Kentish Town, Neasden and Woodford Halse from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 29 June 1963 and subsequently scrapped. Ex loco condition. £300-500 - Sold for £540.

Lot 32 A single line key token, CLIFFORD SIDINGS-ETTINGTON, (alloy), from the western end of the Stratford-upon-Avon and Midland Junction line, closed to passengers in 1952 and freight in 1966. £150-300 - Sold for £560 to commission or postal bidder number 612.

Lot 33 A Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway armband, L&YR HOLDER AUTHORISED TO BE ON THE RAILWAY NO 26. Enamel 4¼"x3", complete with straps and buckle. £100-200 - Sold for £120 to commission or postal bidder number 1022.

Lot 34 A (GWR) cabside numberplate, 1668, from a 1600 Class 0-6-0PT built at Swindon and allocated new to Taunton on 11 May 1955. It moved in July 1960 to Oswestry from where it was withdrawn on 17 January 1965 and sold for scrap to George Cohen at Kettering on 5 March 1965. Cast brass, repainted. £350-500 - Sold for £440.

Lot 35 A London & North Western and Lancashire & Yorkshire Railways silver plated toast rack by Walker and Hall, the top marked L&Y&LNW RLY Cos, FLEETWOOD, length 7", to hold six slices. £80-120 - Sold for £290.

Lot 36 An LNWR three aspect handlamp, the body stamped BUSHEY TRAFFIC, complete with interior, repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £120.

Lot 37 A London & North Western Railway hydrant plate, 8 IN S.V. TO SHUT OFF WATER TO SALTLEY LOCO 3 FT. Cast iron, 19"x13", the front repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £300.

Lot 38 A smokebox numberplate, 5566, from a GWR 4500 Class 2-6-2T built at Swindon in January 1929. A long time Swindon engine, it was withdrawn from there on 26 January 1959 and sold for scrap to Hayes at Bridgend on 9 July 1959. Repainted. £250-400 - Sold for £400.

Lot 39 A carriage board, MASTER CUTLER/SHEFFIELD PULLMAN, painted wood, length 60", in original condition. £200-350 - Sold for £540.

Lot 40 A wagonplate, GWR, LOAD 20 CASKS WEST OF BODMIN ROAD, from an early china clay wagon. Cast iron, 13½"x7¼", in original condition. £150-300 - Sold for £300.

Lot 41 A London Transport target sign, GREEN PARK, a Central London station with platforms on the Victoria, Bakerloo and Piccadilly lines. Enamel within brass frame, 24"x20". £500-800 - Sold for £1000 to commission or postal bidder number 4199.

Lot 42 A nameplate SATURN with its matching worksplate HUDSWELL CLARKE, 967, 1912, from a standard gauge 0-6-0T new to John Summers & Sons Ltd, Shotton Steelworks, Flint. Scrapped on site around 1959. The nameplate cast brass, 25¾" long, the front repainted, the worksplate engraved brass, 13"x8", the front lightly polished (2) £700-1000 - Sold for £760.

Lot 43 A BR(S) totem sign, AYLSHAM HALT, (f/f), from the Faversham to Dover route. A chip repair under the first L neatly restored. £350-500 - Sold for £620.

Lot 44 A company nameplate, WALKER BROTHERS (WIGAN) LTD, PAGEFIELD IRONWORKS, WIGAN, probably from a mill engine or similar. The company was famous for building the County Donegal Railway railcars between 1934 and 1951. These carried circular worksplates, the wording the same as on this plate. Engraved brass, 29"x6½", bevelled. £250-400 - Sold for £520 to commission or postal bidder number 7783.

Lot 45 A poster board header, WELSH HIGHLAND RAILWAY, from the narrow gauge Portmadoc to Dinas route which closed in 1936. Enamel, 48"x4½", minor chips at fixings. £150-300 - Sold for £250.

Lot 46 A wagonplate, DORKING GREYSTONE LIME CO LIMITED, OWNERS, 52, BETCHWORTH, CARRY 8 TONS. Cast iron, 11½"x7½", the front repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £550.

Lot 47 A GER signal box plunger box with brass plate REEDHAM SWING BRIDGE. Excellent original condition. £100-200 - Sold for £320 to commission or postal bidder number 2521.

Lot 48 An LMS lamp tablet, WYLLIE HALT, from the Pontllanfraith to Nine Mile Point route, to the west of Risca. The Halt closed in 1961. Enamel, on its original wooden backboard, 15"x5", excellent condition. £300-500 - Sold for £380.

Lot 49 An LBSCR three aspect handlamp, complete with S(B)R interior, the case stamped with the company initials and plated ENGRS DEPT, BARCOMBE MILLS, also a large LB&SCR embossed brass plate and L.M. Co RIDSDALE brass plate. The station was on the Lewes to Uckfield route and closed in 1969. The lamp has been restored. £250-400 - Sold for £1100.

Lot 50 A GWR signal box shelf plate, LLANGEINOR, from the Tondu to Blaengarw branch which closed to passengers in 1950 and freight in 1991. Engraved brass, 4¾"x1½". £100-200 - Sold for £360.

Lot 51 A shedplate 84C Banbury (1949 to September 1963), then Truro (September 1963 to November 1965). The ex GWR shed at Banbury housed between 50 and 70 locos during this period, before it was transferred to the LM region, becoming 2D. By the time the ex GWR shed at Truro had gained this code, it had lost its steam allocation and was being used as diesel stabling point. Closure came in November 1965. The front repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £270.

Lot 52 A wagonplate, THE BUTE WORKS SUPPLY CO LTD CARDIFF, BUILDERS. Cast iron, 8"x7", the front repainted. £80-120 - Sold for £210 to commission or postal bidder number 8846.

Lot 53 A Great Northern and North Eastern Joint Railways Dining Car nibbles bowl, probably by Mintons (the mark unclear), used on Kings Cross to Newcastle services. China, 12"x12½", excellent. £50-80 - Sold for £140.

Lot 54 A worksplate, BIRMINGHAM RAILWAY CARRIAGE & WAGON CO DEL 238, 1962 from Class 27 D5395, later 27107 and 27051. New to Cricklewood in June 1962; withdrawn from Eastfield in July 1987 and cut up by Vic Berry in Leicester by October 1987. Cast brass, 4"x3", in ex loco condition. £150-300 - Sold for £230.

Lot 55 A Tyers key token instrument, a lighter version with alloy base, in original condition. £400-600 - Sold for £1500 to commission or postal bidder number 8826.

Lot 56 A worksplate, LB&SCR, BRIGHTON WORKS, No 90, 1912, from a London Brighton & South Coast Railway I3 Class 4-4-2T No 90 which actually emerged from Brighton Works in March 1913. It became SR 2090 and BR 32090. Allocated to Eastbourne in 1948 for working the Heathfield line, it was withdrawn in November 1950 and subsequently scrapped. Cast brass with engraved lettering, 16¼"x9¾", the front cleaned. £700-1000 - Sold for £850.

Lot 57 A GWR signal lever plate, 5 START'G FROM DOWN MAIN TO SOUTH FORK, 26, 27, 28, ex Croes Newydd. Engraved brass, length 8¼". £150-300 - Sold for £800.

Lot 58 A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 63402, DARLINGTON WORKS, 1919, from a North Eastern Railway Class T2, LNER Q6 Class, 0-8-0 built at Darlington in May 1919, NER/LNER No 2245, renumbered 3402 in 1946, becoming BR 63402. It was at Borough Gardens by January 1948 and later Blaydon and North Blyth from where it was withdrawn on 16 September 1964. It was sold for scrap but records vary as to whether the buyer was TW Ward, South Bank or George Cohen, Middlesbrough. Cast brass, 9"x5", the front repainted. The locomotive's previous number 3402 is visible under the renumbering strip. £150-300 - Sold for £460.

Lot 59 A GWR signal box shelf plate, NEWBURY EAST JUNCTION MAIN LINE, from the Reading to Westbury route. Engraved brass, 4¾"x1½". £100-200 - Sold for £230.

Lot 60 A tenderplate, BRIG, 1556, 1958, coupled new with BR standard Class 9F 2-10-0 No 92245 built at Crewe and allocated new to Ebbw Junction on 4 November 1958. Its later sheds were Old Oak Common, Cardiff Canton, Bath Green Park for three months in 1962, Oxford and Southall from where it was withdrawn on 26 December 1964 and despatched for scrap to Woodham Bros at Barry. It was one of the so called Barry Ten locos still at the scrapyard when Dai Woodham retired and was saved for preservation by Vale of Glamorgan Council. Cast iron, 8"x6", the front repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £270.

Lot 61 A GWR signal box shelf plate, TO LLANGOLLEN GOODS JUNCTION, from the northern end of the Ruabon to Barmouth route. Engraved brass, 4¾"x1½". £100-200 - Sold for £310 to commission or postal bidder number 2598.

Lot 62 A nameplate, HUNTINGDONSHIRE, from a LNER D49 Shire Class 4-4-0 No 322 built at Darlington in July 1928, renumbered 2722 in 1946, becoming BR 62722. A long time Hull Botanic Gardens engine, it spent a final few months at nearby Dairycoates from where it was withdrawn on 20 October 1959 and cut up at Darlington Works. Cast brass, length 57", the front repainted. £6000-8000 - Sold for £6000.

Lot 63 A signal box nameboard, YORK YARD NORTH, cast letters on wood, length 76½", in original condition. £300-500 - Sold for £420.

Lot 64 A North Eastern Railway armband, KNARESBOROUGH STATION, OUT PORTER, No 1, the station on the Harrogate to York route. Engraved brass,4¾"x3½", complete with straps and buckle. £150-300 - Sold for £340.

Lot 65 A smokebox numberplate, 31912, from a Southern Railway W Class 2-6-4T No 1912 built at Eastleigh in January 1932. Allocated to Stewarts Lane by January 1948 and later Hither Green, Eastleigh, Exmouth Junction, Norwood Junction and Feltham from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 29 August 1964 and sold for scrap to George Cohen at Kettering. Ex loco condition. £350-500 - Sold for £820.

Lot 66 A station sign, TO TRAINS FOR TODMORDEN, BURNLEY AND YORKSHIRE DIRECTIONS, probably from Littleborough station. Wood with cast letters, 48"x21", the front repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £420.

Lot 67 A shedplate 87H Neyland (1949 to September 1963), then Whitland until December 1963. The ex GWR shed at Neyland had an allocation of 45 locos which at one time included 4 Counties, 4 Halls and a solitary Manor. On closure, sub shed Whitland used the code for its allocation of 15 locos until it too closed just three months later! Ex loco condition. £200-250 - Sold for £200.

Lot 68 A briefcase used by Sir Ralph Wedgwood (1874-1956), Chief Officer of the LNER from 1923 until 1939, after whom the A4 Class locomotives 4469/66 were named. Leather with chromed fittings, the clasp engraved SIR R L WEDGWOOD, KINGS CROSS STATION, overall 16½"x13½". £100-200 - Sold for £300.

Lot 69 A BR(M) totem sign, BLAKE STREET, (f/f), from the Birmingham New St to Lichfield City route. Minor blemishes only. £250-400 - Sold for £500.

Lot 70 A worksplate, BUILT BY (AND ON LOAN TO) LONDON NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY Co, DARLINGTON WORKS No 1958, 1945, from a Stanier type 8F 2-8-0 No 8551, BR 48551, built to Railway Executive Committee order and loaned new to the LNER at Heaton in April 1945, classified as their O6 Class, until transferred to the LMS at Crewe South in July 1947. Its BR sheds were Swansea Paxton Street, Willesden, Mold Junction, Crewe South and Heaton Mersey from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 4 May 1968 and despatched for scrap to T.W. Ward at Beighton on 1 August 1968. £250-400 - Sold for £460 to commission or postal bidder number 8794.

Lot 71 A GNR three aspect handlamp with brass plate GREAT NORTHERN RAILWAY COMPANY, NOTTINGHAM GDS, 39 and a relocation plate, BECCLES, a station on the Ipswich to Lowestoft route. Restored, non-matching top. £150-300 - Sold for £130.

Lot 72 A Manchester Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway glass sugar shaker with silver plated top, 5¼" tall, the side marked with the company's coat of arms, £100-200 - Sold for £100.

Lot 73 A Tyers No 6 single line tablet, PONTELAND-CALLERTON, (brass/steel), from the North Eastern Railway branch to Darras Hall which lost its passenger services in 1929 though freight continued for another forty years until 1969. £200-350 - Sold for £420 to commission or postal bidder number 8417.

Lot 74 A Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway signal box diagram, DOVER BRIDGE, dated 1909, showing the line towards Eastwood and Hebden Bridge. The box was on the Manchester to Leeds route. Original frame, overall 43"x21", in original condition other than the company initials at the top neatly altered to LMSR in the 1920s. £200-350 - Sold for £520.

Lot 75 A GWR cabside numberplate, 7788, from a 5700 Class 0-6-0PT built by Armstrong Whitworth, Works No 1144, in December 1930. A long time Reading engine, it moved to Gloucester in 1960 and in February 1962 to Stourbridge from where it was withdrawn the following 7 July and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Great Bridge on 17 September 1962. Cast brass, the front repainted. £250-400 - Sold for £560.

Lot 76 A BR(M) doorplate, WAITING ROOM, (f/f), enamel, 18"x6", a minor edge chip, otherwise excellent. £100-200 - Sold for £140.

Lot 77 A ship's bell from the Southern Railway steamer INVICTA, built by William Denny of Dumbarton in 1939 for cross channel services and requisitioned by the admiralty for use as a troop ship. She returned to the Southern Railway in 1945, passing to British Railways in 1948, working on the Dover to Calais route until withdrawn and scrapped in 1972. The bell is mounted on a wooden stand, complete with clapper and description plate. The diameter of the bell is 7". £400-600 - Sold for £1100.

Lot 78 A group of GWR signal lever plates, descriptions include MAIN + OVER MAIN TO CROSS, SPUR SAFETY, MAIN FACINGS. Lengths 4", 3½". (4) £200-350 - Sold for £200.

Lot 79 A shedplate 70D Basingstoke (1950 to September 1963) then Eastleigh (closed to steam July 1967). The ex LSWR shed at Basingstoke was most noted for being home to the Remembrance 4-6-0s in its small allocation in the 1950s. Eastleigh, also ex LSWR, took over the code when Basingstoke lost its allocation. Basingstoke however remained open for servicing until the end of SR steam. Eastleigh’s allocation of 100 locos contained no fewer than 36 Bulleid Light Pacifics during this period. Ex loco condition. £100-200 - Sold for £260.

Lot 80 A signal box nameboard, SHIREBROOK, from the Midland Railway Mansfield to Shireoaks route. Enamel in wooden frame, overall length 42½", beading absent lower right. £200-350 - Sold for £420 to commission or postal bidder number 3283.

Lot 81 A worksplate, GNR(I) DUNDALK, 1917. No new locomotives were built at Dundalk during the First World War but all the AL Class 0-6-0 tender engines were rebuilt in the War years. This plate is most likely to be from AL Class No 58 built by Beyer Peacock, Works No 3798, in 1896 and originally named KERRY (removed in 1912-13) which was rebuilt at Dundalk in September 1917 and withdrawn in October 1959. Cast brass, 8¼"x4½", the front repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £280 to commission or postal bidder number 8472.

Lot 82 A carriage board, WHITCHURCH/LLANIDLOES, used on local trains on the Cambrian route. Painted wood, 32" long, in original condition. £100-200 - Sold for £230.

Lot 89 A nameplate BRISTOL EVENING POST from Class 43 HST power car 43150. Originally named at Bristol Temple Meads station in October 1988 with black reflective plates. These were removed in 1992 and were replaced by silver reflective plates which were removed in 1994. Length 39½". £800-1200 - Sold for £520.

Lot 93 A shedplate 61C Keith (1949 to January 1961 to steam, September 1966 completely). This former GNSR shed had 23 locos allocated in 1950, and in its final month had 26 locos on its books. Lot 97 A worksplate, LMS BUILT 1940, CREWE. The only locos recorded as being built by the LMS at Crewe in 1940 were streamlined Princess Coronation Class 8P 4-6-2s Nos 6240-4 which became BR 46240-4 and were named City of Coventry, City of Edinburgh, City of Glasgow, City of Lancaster and City of Leeds, the latter renamed King George VI in 1941. It has, however, emerged that several LMS Class 8F 2-8-0s recorded as built in 1941 actually carried 1940 plates. Lot 99 A GWR cabside numberplate, 2889, from a 2884 Class 2-8-0 built at Swindon in March 1938. Allocated to Cardiff Canton by January 1948 and later Ebbw Junction, St Philips Marsh, Severn Tunnel Junction, Canton again, Banbury and Reading from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 20 April 1963 and cut up at Swindon Works in the five days ending 21 June 1963. Lot 100 A GWR presentation solid silver shield, GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY, LOXDALE CHALLENGE AMBULANCE SHIELD, presented by Reginald J R Loxdale, Castle Hill, Llanilar, member of the GWR Audit Committee 1924. Thirty-three winner's shields attached for former Cambrian locations including Oswestry Loco, Caersws, Lampeter, Croes Newydd, Borth, Machynlleth, etc. Overall 17"x21", with hinged stand to the rear. £200-350 - Sold for £320.

Lot 101 A signal box nameboard, KINNABER JUNCTION, the famous junction situated north of Montrose where the West Coast route from Euston, Perth and Forfar joins the East Coast route from Kings Cross, Edinburgh and Dundee. During the Victorian Railway Races to the North, at the height of East and West Coast competition for the Aberdeen traffic, the junction was a key point as the first train to approach Kinnaber was given the road north to Aberdeen. Enamel, length 57". The sign has been professionally restored, with chipping towards the right end neatly colour matched. £300-500 - Sold for £560 to commission or postal bidder number 541.

Lot 105 A coach builders plate, ASHBURY CO LD, MAKERS, 1882, MANCHESTER. Cast iron, 12¾"x3¾", the front repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £180 to commission or postal bidder number 8853.

Lot 106 A nameplate, CANADIAN PACIFIC, from the Southern Railway Merchant Navy Class 4-6-2 Bulleid Pacific No 21C5 built at Eastleigh in December 1941 and named at a ceremony at Victoria station on 27 March 1942 by Mr F.W. Mottley the acting European manager of the shipping line. It became BR 35005 and was rebuilt without its streamlined casing in May 1959. Allocated new to Salisbury, it moved to Exmouth Junction in 1942, to Nine Elms in 1948, back to Exmouth Junction in 1951 and to Salisbury in 1957. It finished its days at Bournemouth and Weymouth from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 9 October 1965 and despatched for scrap to Woodham Bros at Barry on 12 January 1966. Rescued for preservation, it was restored on the Great Central Railway at Loughborough and was used on main line steam specials. Currently it is being overhauled by the Mid-Hants Railway and was moved to Eastleigh Works in 2011. Cast brass with enamel flag, length 74¼", in ex loco condition. £35000-45000 - Sold for £40000.

Lot 108 A smokebox numberplate, 48437, from a Stanier LMS type 2-8-0 built to Railway Executive Committee order by the GWR at Swindon in 1944. Allocated new to Chester WR on 3 May 1944, it later spent ten years at Rugby and a final eight years at Stockport from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 30 March 1968 and despatched for scrap to Cashmores at Great Bridge on 20 June 1968. Formerly LMS 4A, a code which BR used until 1950; it became WR 84G then 89A, and finally 6D on transfer to the LMR in 1963. Lot 120 A smokebox plate, Z.A.S.M, as carried by locos operated by the Nederlandsche Zuid-Afrikaansche Spoorweg-Maatschappij (DZASM), a railway formed in the Transvaal in 1887, which was taken over by the Imperial Military Railways during the Boer Way and became part of the Central South African Railways in 1902 and of South African Railways following the formation of the Union of South Africa in 1910. Lot 129 A South African Railways cabside numberplate, 3788, S2, from a 3ft 6ins gauge Class S2 0-8-0 shunting locomotive built by Krupp, Works No 3053, in 1952. The class was specifically designed for lightly laid harbour track and mainly worked in Durban, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town, although latterly 3788 was allocated to Capital Park, Pretoria. Cast brass, 20¾"x14½", the front original paintwork, cleaned. £200-350 - Sold for £440.

Anderson and despatched to Buchanan Street Station, Glasgow, where it was probably used on a contract for the extension to the Goods Station. Sold around 1910 to the dealers Thos. W. Ward Ltd who resold it circa 1912 to the Kettering Iron & Coal Co. Ltd, Kettering Furnaces, Northamptonshire, where it became No 10. Rebuilt by Andrew Barclay in 1941. Lot 138 A safety valve bonnet from (GWR) 4073 Castle Class 4-6-0 7027 THORNBURY CASTLE built at Swindon and named after the Tudor castle in south Gloucestershire, now a luxury hotel. Allocated new to Newton Abbot on 26 August 1949 and later Laira, Old Oak Common for nine years, Worcester and Reading from where it was withdrawn on 28 December 1963 and sold to Woodham Bros at Barry on 30 April 1964. Saved for preservation, it is currently in the early stages of restoration at Williton on the West Somerset Railway. Brass, base diameter 29", top diameter 18½", height 16", the side ears to be added to these dimensions. Ex loco condition. £500-800 - Sold for £1750.

Lot 139 A Tyers No 1 single line tablet, SHERINGHAM-RUNTON JC, (brass/steel), from the M&GN Melton Constable to Cromer route. £250-400 - Sold for £200.

Lot 140 A worksplate, MARTYN BROTHERS, AIRDRIE, N.B. This firm built tank locomotives for collieries. They acquired Dick & Stevenson's patterns and drawings in 1890 after their works, also in Airdrie, closed and in the next ten years built at least two and possibly six locos from these designs. The only loco they built that lasted post-war was one supplied to the Alloa Coal Company which worked latterly at Devon Colliery, Sauchie, Clackmannanshire and just made it into NCB ownership in 1947. It went to Andrew Barclay's works at Kilmarnock later that year, where it was scrapped. Cast brass, 8"x5", in ex loco condition. £300-500 - Sold for £1550.

Lot 141 A worksplate, R. HUDSON (INDIA) LTD, ENGINE NO (blank), 6 & 7 CLIVE STREET, CALCUTTA. Robert Hudson Ltd were light railway engineers based in Leeds who had an extensive export market for narrow gauge railway equipment. They did not build steam locomotives themselves, but offered a range of locomotives for narrow gauge railways that were normally constructed by Hunslet or Hudswell Clarke to which Hudson then attached their own worksplates, often with the Hunslet/Hudswell Clarke works number stamped on the plate. Cast brass, 10½"x5¾", the front lightly polished, the back in original condition. £250-400 - Sold for £660.

Lot 143 A nameplate, WALTER BURGH GAIR, from a Great Central Railway Class 11E Director 4-4-0 No 433 built at Gorton in October 1913 and named after a GCR Director who was also Deputy Chairman from 1918-22. It became LNER D11 Class No 5433 and was renumbered 2654 in 1946, becoming BR 62654. Allocated to Darnall by January 1948, it moved in October 1949 to Trafford Park from where it was withdrawn on 31 August 1953 and cut up at Gorton Works in the week ending 21 November 1953. Lot 144 A BR(Sc) totem sign, BARASSIE, (f/f), from the Ayr to Kilmarnock and Glasgow route. Loss of shine and slight fading. £200-350 - Sold for £580.

Lot 145 A worksplate, NASMYTH WILSON & CO, 1267, 1918, from a Robinson Great Central Railway type 2-8-0 built to Ministry of Munitions order for the Railway Operating Division of the Royal Engineers in October 1918, ROD No 1724. It saw service in France from December 1918 and, on returning to the UK, was loaned to the Great Central Railway. After return to the WD, it was stored at Morecambe until sold to the LNER in February 1927, entering traffic in April 1929 as their Class O4 No 6559, renumbered 3639 in 1947, becoming BR 63639. Allocated to Colwick by January 1948 where it spent most of its BR days except for two periods at Annesley. Withdrawn from Colwick on 19 December 1965, it was taken for scrap by Cashmores at Great Bridge on 23 February 1966. Cast brass, 13½"x5¼", in ex loco condition. £350-500 - Sold for £880.

The brass case stamped 4843, the lid 3529 and the movement 4845. 8 day spring driven movement with platform escapement and stamped with a lion indicating the makers Duverdrey & Bloquel. Moon hands. The vitreous enamel dial written G.W.R. Kay & Co. Paris, indicating its origin, Kays were based in Worcester. Complete with combined winder/hand setter. £250-400 - Sold for £190.

Lot 170 A GWR cabside numberplate, 7819, from the 7800 Manor Class 4-6-0 HINTON MANOR built at Swindon in February 1939 and named after an Elizabethan manor house at Hinton Waldrist, Oxfordshire. It spent most of its working life at Oswestry, working over Cambrian lines, moving late on to Machynlleth and Shrewsbury from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 6 November 1965 and sold for scrap to Woodham Bros at Barry on 16 December 1965. It was saved for preservation and has been at the Severn Valley Railway since August 2018, having been a static display for many years at a retail shopping outlet at Swindon. New to Plymouth Laira in October 1959; withdrawn from there in February 1971 and cut up at Swindon Works just ten months later. Lot 178 A Midland Railway 12" dial trunk clock with fusee movement, carved ears and a decorative pendulum window, doors to the base and sides, the inside of the right door has the brass plate LMS 14116. Lot 179 A shedplate 67A Corkerhill (1949 to May 1967). This ex GSWR shed had a substantial allocation of around 90 locos during the 1950s, most notably a handful of elusive Jubilees. Even with the rundown of steam north of the border it still hosted around 30 locos in its final 18 months as a steam depot. Lot 198 A smokebox numberplate, 31827, from a (South Eastern & Chatham Railway) N Class 2-6-0 No A827 assembled at Ashford Works in May 1924 from parts made at Woolwich Arsenal, which had spare capacity after the First World War, with the exception of the boiler which was constructed by the North British Locomotive Co. It later became SR 1827 and BR 31827. Allocated to Eastleigh by January 1948, it spent most of its BR days at Bricklayers Arms before moving late on to Stewarts Lane, Brighton and Redhill from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 13 June 1964 and despatched for scrap to A. King at Norwich on 29 September 1964. The front repainted, the BR(S) Eastleigh triangle on the back. £400-600 - Sold for £500.

Lot 204 A cab plate, COASTING CUT-OFF, from the cab of the LNER A4 Class 4-6-2 No 4500. Built at Doncaster, Works No 1873, in April 1938, and named GARGANEY, renamed SIR RONALD MATTHEWS in March 1939 after the LNER Chairman. Always a Gateshead engine, it was withdrawn on 12 October 1964 and subsequently scrapped. Cast brass, 5½"x4½", the front repainted. £250-400 - Sold for £440.

Lot 206 A pair of GWR locomotive whistles, the larger from 6018 King Henry VI, with description plate and a BR presentation letter stating its origin. Allocated to Tyseley by January 1948, it moved to Banbury in 1955 and later Kidderminster, Stafford Road and Worcester from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 9 November 1963 and sold for scrap to T.W. Lot 220 A South African Railways cabside numberplate, 1202, 8DW, from a Cape Government Railway 3ft 6ins gauge 8th Class 4-8-0 No 370 built by Neilson Reid, Works No 6288, in 1903, becoming SAR 1202 in 1912. The W suffix was added to the class designation when it was later fitted with a superheated boiler and inside admission piston valves. Lot 222 A nameplate, KITTIWAKE, from a Peppercorn A1 Class 4-6-2 No 60120 built at Doncaster, Works No 2037, in December 1948 and named in May 1950 after a species of seabird. Allocated new to Kings Cross on 10 December 1948, it moved in June 1950 to Copley Hill where it spent the remainder of its working life except for a final four months at York from where it was withdrawn on 20 January 1964 and cut up at Darlington Works. Lot 223 A shedplate, 83A, Newton Abbot (1949 to January 1963 for steam). This ex GWR shed had an allocation of 70 locos which included 14 Castles throughout the 1950s. Ex loco condition. £150-300 - Sold for £200.

This directional sign, pointing to the Rail Transport Office (where forces personnel exchanged warrants and made travel arrangements), would be from one of the larger stations in the region. Lot 225 A shedplate 32A Norwich Thorpe (1949 to April 1962 to steam, completely in 1992). The ex GER shed housed 130 locos in 1950. It was noted for its stud of 21 Britannias in the late 1950s. Repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £150.

Lot 233 A shedplate 73A Stewarts Lane (1950 to June 1962). This ex SECR shed had an allocation of over 100 locos during this period. Of note were 7 King Arthurs, 6 Schools 13 Bulleid Light Pacifics and 3 Merchant Navies. In June 1962 it was recoded 75D, and lost its steam allocation in September 1963. It is still a Repair and Maintenance depot for diesel and electric locos and a servicing point for steam locos. Lot 238 A worksplate, GREAT CENTRAL RAILWAY, GORTON WORKS, MANCHESTER, 1922, from a GCR Director Class 11F No 511 built in December 1922, the last engine built by the GC, and named MARNE after the First World War battle which halted the German onslaught in 1914. It became LNER D11 Class No 5511 and was renumbered 2670 in 1946, becoming BR 62670. Allocated to Immingham by January 1948 and later Trafford Park, Lincoln GN and Darnall from where it was withdrawn on 15 November 1960 and cut up at Doncaster Works. Lot 248 A Tyers No 6 single line tablet, DOCKING-BURNHAM MARKET, (brass/steel), from the Wells-Next-The-Sea to Heacham branch on the Norfolk coast which closed to passengers in 1952 and to freight traffic in 1964. £250-400 - Sold for £580.

Lot 249 A worksplate, VULCAN 4653, 1935, from a LMS Class 5 4-6-0 No 5110 which became BR 45110. Allocated new to Crewe North on 29 May 1935, it then spent thirty years at Holyhead before moving towards the end to Stafford, Bolton and Lostock Hall from where it was withdrawn on 11 August 1968 after working the final leg from Manchester Victoria to Liverpool Lime Street of the famous Fifteen Guinea Special 1T57. It thus became the last engine to haul a BR main line passenger train before a steam ban came into force the next day. It was sold for preservation and currently resides in the Engine House on the Severn Valley Railway. Lot 251 A nameplate, CALCUTTA, from a GWR 3300 Bulldog Class 4-4-0 built at Swindon, Works No 2051, in March 1904 and named after the capital city of the Indian State of West Bengal, one of a group of Bulldogs given names relating to the then British Empire. Originally numbered 3468, it was renumbered 3406 under a renumbering scheme introduced in 1912. Allocated new to Penzance, it was at Pontypool Road by January 1948, moving the following year to Hereford from where it was withdrawn on 31 January 1951 and cut up at Swindon Works in the four weeks ending 24 March 1951. Lot 259 A worksplate, NORTH BRITISH LOCOMOTIVE Co, QUEENS PARK, 22185, 1919, from a Robinson Great Central Railway type 2-8-0 built to Ministry of Munitions order for the Railway Operating Division of the Royal Engineers in May 1919, ROD No 2095. It was loaned to the Great Central Railway in October 1919 and, after return to the WD in August 1921, stored at Morecambe until sold to the LNER in February 1927, entering traffic in April 1929 as their Class O4 No 6629, renumbered 3873 in 1947, becoming BR 63873. Allocated to Annesley by January 1948, it moved in 1950 to Gorton and in 1954 to Colwick from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 15 January 1966 and sold for scrap to George Cohen at Kettering. Lot 263 A smokebox numberplate, 30434, from a London & South Western Railway L12 Class 4-4-0 No 434 built at Nine Elms Works in March 1905. It retained this number in SR days becoming BR 30434. Most were withdrawn in 1951; this was the last in service. It spent all its BR days at Guildford from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 26 February 1955 and cut up at Eastleigh Works in the week ending 13 August 1955. Lot 275 An LMS smokebox numberplate, 743, from a Midland Railway 2781 Class 4-4-0 No 833 built at Derby in 1904. It was renumbered 743 in 1907 and retained this number in LMS days, becoming BR 40743. Allocated to Derby by January 1948 and later Holbeck and Bedford from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 5 July 1952 and cut up at Derby Works in the week ending 29 November 1952. Lot 286 A GWR cabside numberplate, 4080, from the 4073 Castle Class 4-6-0, POWDERHAM CASTLE, built at Swindon in March 1924 and named after the country seat of the Earl of Devon eight miles from Exeter on the banks of the River Exe and resulting in the removal of the same name from the earlier 4-4-0 No 3301. Allocated to Bristol Bath Road by January 1948, it spent most of its days in the West Country, moving towards the end to Cardiff Canton and Cardiff East Dock and very briefly Old Oak Common and Southall from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 8 August 1964 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Newport on 23 October 1964. Lot 287 A Great North of Scotland Railway three aspect handlamp with embossed company nameplate, a brass plate on top P.W. CRAIGELLACHIE, a station on the Keith to Elgin route which closed in 1968. Original condition. £200-350 - Sold for £380.

Lot 288 A shedplate 56G Bradford Hammerton Street (July 1956 to December 1967). This ex GNR shed, formerly 37C, was transferred to the NER when it took on this code. It lost its steam allocation of 33 locos in 1958, and became a DMU depot. As well as many units, a number of Class 03 and 04 shunting locos carried this code. In July 1967 it became 55F and finally closed during 1985. Ex loco condition. £100-200 - Sold for £140.

Lot 289 A worksplate, GREAT NORTHERN RAILWAY, DONCASTER, 1548, 1922, from a GNR Class J23 0-6-0T No 225 built at Doncaster in November 1922. It became LNER J50 Class No 3225 and was renumbered 8924 in 1946, becoming BR 68924. Allocated to Stratford by January 1948, it moved the following year to Norwich, returning in 1960 to Stratford from where it was withdrawn on 14 February 1961 and subsequently scrapped. Lot 295 A smokebox numberplate, 68032, from a War Department Austerity 0-6-0ST built by Robert Stephenson & Hawthorns, Works No 7211, to Ministry of Supply order in April 1945, WD No 75281. In May 1946 the majority of the class were loaned to the LNER and subsequently taken into LNER stock as their J94 Class. This loco was numbered 8032 by the LNER and became BR 68032. Allocated to York by January 1948, it moved in 1959 to Darlington and in 1960 to West Hartlepool from where it was withdrawn on 25 May 1964 and subsequently scrapped. Lot 297 A worksplate, No. 2106, DONCASTER, 1952, from a (LMS) Class 4 2-6-0 No 43161, the last of the Class and the last Doncaster engraved worksplate used. Allocated new to Yarmouth Beach on 3 September 1952, its later sheds were Neasden, Norwich, Staveley GC, Grimesthorpe, Colwick and Staveley Barrow Hill from where it was withdrawn on 20 June 1965 and subsequently scrapped. Lot 298 A nameplate SAMSON, from the LMS Jubilee Class 6P 4-6-0 No 5738 built at Crewe and named when built on 30 November 1936 after a pioneer locomotive built by Robert Stephenson for the Liverpool & Manchester Railway in 1831. The nameplate was originally carried by the Royal Scot Class No 6135 which was renamed The East Lancashire Regiment in May 1935. Allocated new to Crewe North No 45738 spent most of its LMS days at Camden and most of its BR days at Bushbury before moving in 1959 to Carlisle Upperby and then nearby Kingmoor from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 28 December 1963 and cut up at Crewe Works by 28 February 1964. Lot 329 A worksplate, LMS BUILT 1947 DERBY, from a LMS Class 4 2-6-4T No 2274 which became BR 42274. Allocated new to Polmadie on 12 June 1947 where it spent most of its working life, moving in 1964 to Carstairs and then Motherwell from where it was withdrawn on 1 May 1967 and sold for scrap to Campbells at Airdrie. Lot 331 A shedplate 65E Kipps (1949 to January 1963). This ex NBR shed was home to 50 locos throughout the 1950s, the most notable being the quirky Y9 saddle tanks with the wooden wagons attached as extra coal space! Lot 332 A nameplate, SHERBORNE, from the SR V Class Schools 4-4-0 built at Eastleigh in June 1930 and named after the public school in Dorset. At St Leonards by January 1948 and later Nine Elms, Guildford and Brighton from where it was withdrawn on 23 December 1962 and cut up at Eastleigh Works in April 1963. Saved for preservation, it went from Barry in October 1986 to the East Lancashire Railway and in 2005 moved to the Shillingstone Railway Project in Dorset for restoration but is now believed to be at a privately owned site. Lot 341 A pair of lease hire plates, ON HIRE FROM NORTH CENTRAL WAGON CO, ROTHERHAM, and LEASED TO J. J. CHARLESWORTH, EWYUR, NO 187, 1901 10 TONS. The East and West Yorkshire Union Railway ran from Lofthouse to Rothwell, south east of Leeds, serving Beeston and Robin Hood Collieries. The Charlesworths were colliery owners. Lot 342 A GWR cabside numberplate, 3835, from a 2884 Class 2-8-0 built at Swindon in January 1942. Allocated to Oxford by January 1948, it moved in 1954 to Banbury and later Reading, Cardiff Canton, Severn Tunnel Junction and Didcot from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 26 December 1964 and cut up at Swindon Works. Lot 345 A headboard, THE TYNESIDER, as carried by the Kings Cross to Newcastle sleeping car train. The title was introduced on 5 June 1950 and the last titled run was on 4 May 1968, with this style of headboard being used throughout. Lot 348 A worksplate, VULCAN 618(6), IN ASSOCIATION WITH ROBERT STEPHENSON AND HAWTHORNS, 7448, 1952, from a metre gauge 2-8-2 built for East African Railways & Harbours, their Class 26 No 2611. It became part of East African Railways in 1969 and Kenya Railways in January 1978, still as 2611, and was subsequently withdrawn. Cast brass, 9¾"x5", the front repainted. There are three areas of damage probably caused by shrapnel; one affects the last digit of the Vulcan works number. £250-400 - Sold for £480.

Lot 351 A nameplate THE INTERNATIONAL BRIGADES, SPAIN, 1936 - 1939, with badge, from Class 90 90015. New to Willesden in November 1988; its BBC NORTH WEST plates were exchanged for this name which was unveiled at Stoke on Trent station in February 1998 in memory of the anti-fascist foreign volunteers who fought on the Republican side during the Spanish Civil War. While in service with Greater Anglia these plates were removed and the loco now carries COLCHESTER CASTLE plates. Lot 355 A Caledonian Railway 13" dial long case clock from Ballachulish signal box, complete but requiring attention to the case, with weight, pendulum and key. Lot 359 A nameplate, LONDON RIFLE BRIGADE, from the LMS Royal Scot Class 7P 4-6-0 No 6166 built at Derby in 1930, named in late 1932 after the famous London Territorial Army Regiment, and rebuilt with taper boiler in January 1945, becoming BR 46166. Allocated new to Rugby on 7 October 1930, this much travelled engine's later sheds included Longsight, Holyhead, Crewe North, Carlisle Upperby and Carlisle Kingmoor from where it was withdrawn in September 1964 and despatched for scrap to West of Scotland Shipbreaking at Troon on 1 December 1964. Lot 361 A shedplate 14B Kentish Town (1935 to April 1963), then Cricklewood diesel depot (September 1963 to March 1967). Lot 389 A West Midland Railway director's pass, issued to William Lewis. The company was founded in 1860, an amalgamation of the Oxford Worcester and Wolverhampton, Newport Abergavenny and Hereford and Worcester and Hereford companies, and was absorbed by the GWR in 1863. 1½" diameter. £200-350 - Sold for £240.

Lot 390 A nameplate TINSLEY with its matching worksplate ANDREW BARCLAY, 2025, 1936, from a standard gauge 0-6-0ST that went new to the Tinsley Park Colliery Co, Ltd, Kilmhurst Colliery, Yorkshire West Riding. Taken over by Manvers Main Colliery Co, Ltd, in 1945 and became NCB property in January 1947 with the running number 40. Overhauled at Elsecar Workshops in 1954. Transferred from Kilnhurst Colliery to Manvers Main Colliery in 1962 and scrapped there around July 1966. Lot 400 A GWR cabside numberplate, 1457, from a Collett 0-4-2T built at Swindon in August 1935, originally numbered 4857 but renumbered 1457 in December 1946 when the 48XX series were required for 2-8-0s converted to oil burning. Allocated to Croes Newydd by January 1948, it moved the following year to Birkenhead where it spent most of its BR days, moving late on to Kidderminster and Oswestry from where it was withdrawn on 16 February 1959 and sold for scrap to J.O. Lot 407 A Snailbeach District Railway bridge weight notice. The 2' 4" gauge Shropshire line ran from Pontesbury on the branch to Minsterley. Lot 412 A worksplate HUNSLET ENGINE, 3196, 1945, from a standard gauge Austerity 0-6-0ST delivered new to the War Department at Longmoor in November 1944, numbered 5145, later 75145. Sent to France in May 1945 and returned to the United Kingdom via Dover in June 1947. Stored at Watnall Colliery, Nottinghamshire and sold to the NCB later in 1947. Overhauled at Moor Green Workshops, Eastwood, Nottinghamshire and latterly worked at the nearby Moor Green Colliery with the number 33. Transferred to Ashington Colliery, Northumberland in May 1965 where it was renumbered 53. Fitted with a Giesl ejector during overhaul at Ashington workshops in February 1967 and latterly worked at Bates Colliery, Blyth. Sold to W. Willoughby of Ashington for scrap in December 1969. Cast iron, 11½"x8¼", in ex loco condition. £150-250 - Sold for £360.

Lot 413 A nameplate, QUIDENHAM, from a LNER B17 Sandringham Class 4-6-0 No 2809 built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 23812, in December 1928 and named after a Carmelite Monastery in Norfolk. It was renumbered 1609 in 1946 and became BR 61609. Allocated to Stratford by January 1948 and later Ipswich, Yarmouth South Town, Norwich, Stratford again and finally back to Ipswich from where it was withdrawn on 23 June 1958 and cut up at Doncaster Works. Lot 417 A smokebox numberplate, 4681, from a GWR 8750 Class 0-6-0PT built at Swindon in November 1944. A long time Duffryrn Yard engine, it moved to the Southern Region in October 1959, at Nine Elms and then Feltham, before a final two months at Bristol Barrow Road from where it was withdrawn on 16 December 1963 and cut up at Swindon Works in the week ending 7 March 1964. Lot 419 A tenderplate, BRIB, 1290, 1955, coupled new with BR Standard Class 5 4-6-0 No 73108 built at Doncaster and allocated new to Eastfield on 30 December 1955 where it spent almost all its life working trains on the West Highland line. It moved in January 1966 to Carstairs from where it was withdrawn on the following 31 December and sold for scrap to Campbells at Airdrie. Cast iron, 8"x6", in ex loco condition; the wording, BR Master Pattern, visible on the front of the plate. £150-300 - Sold for £260.

Lot 421 A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 9147, N.B. LOCO Co, 1912, from a North British Railway Class A 0-6-2T No 910 built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 19831, in August 1912. It became LNER N15 Class No 9910 and was renumbered 9147 in 1946, becoming BR 69147. A long time St Margarets engine, it was withdrawn from there on 6 June 1958 and subsequently scrapped. Cast brass, 9"x5", cleaned and the front repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £150.

Lot 424 A road sign directing to HEMYOCK STATION, the terminus of the branch from Tiverton Junction which closed to passengers in 1963, freight traffic ceasing in 1975. Double sided cast iron, 26"x7", in original condition. £300-500 - Sold for £530.

Lot 425 A bunker numberplate, SOUTHERN RAILWAY, E735, from a London Brighton & South Coast Railway Stroudley Terrier 0-6-0T No 668 CLAPHAM built at Brighton as No 68 in 1874, one of two Terriers purchased by the London & South Western Railway from the LBSCR for working the Axminster & Lyme Regis Railway operated by the LSWR from its opening in 1903 until absorbed by them in 1907, becoming LSWR No 735 and later SR 735. The two Terriers were soon displaced from the A&LRR because their wheelbase was too long. No 735 was then employed on a number of minor duties, including Devon branch line working, finishing its days at Ashford where it was used as a Works pilot interspersed with periods on loan at Chislet Colliery. Withdrawn from Ashford in December 1936, it was cut up shortly afterwards. Brass oval, 13½"x7½", the front repainted. £1000-1500 - Sold for £3400.

Lot 426 A North Eastern Railway platform lamp case with name WHITEDALE in raised blue lettering on frosted glass. The station was on the Hull to Hornsea branch and closed in 1964. 24" tall in original condition. £200-350 - Sold for £340.

Lot 427 A smokebox numberplate, 69686, from a LNER N7 Class 0-6-2T No 2646 built by Beardmore, Works No 309, in July 1927, renumbered 9686 in 1946, becoming BR 69686. A long time Stratford engine, it spent all its BR days there except for brief spells at Colchester and Parkeston. Withdrawn from Stratford on 10 September 1961, it was cut up at Stratford Works. Ex loco condition. £450-700 - Sold for £1000.

Lot 428 A North British Railway Bullpits Patent three aspect handlamp, the body stamped NBR, INVERESK, a station on the East Coast Main Line between Waverley and Drem. Complete with interior and repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £120.

Lot 429 A smokebox numberplate, 3813, from a GWR 2884 Class 2-8-0 built at Swindon in September 1939. It was one of the Class converted to oil burning and renumbered 4855 in July 1947 and re-converted in June 1949 when it regained its original number. Allocated to Laira by January 1948, it spent most of its BR days at Oxley with a final two years at Croes Newydd from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 10 July 1965 and sold for scrap to Birds Commercial Motors at Morriston on 8 September 1965. Lot 451 An LNER 7½" dial brass drum clock with enamelled face, LNER, S.S. SHERINGHAM, the case stamped Earles, Hull, 1926. The ship was built in 1926 and worked on the Ipswich to Antwerp and Zeebrugge routes. She was transferred to the GWR Channel Island Service in 1940, taking part in the evacuation of Guernsey and Alderney. Lot 494 A GWR Spagnoletti double line block instrument, with a pair of engraved brass plates FROM and TO CURRY RIVEL JUNCTION BOX, used at Athelney box east of Cogload Junction. Curry Rivel was the junction for the branch to Martock and Yeovil. £250-400 - Sold for £380.
