A cab plate, COASTING CUT-OFF, from the cab of the LNER A4 Class 4-6-2 No 4500. Built at Doncaster, Works No 1873, in April 1938, and named GARGANEY, renamed SIR RONALD MATTHEWS in March 1939 after the LNER Chairman. Always a Gateshead engine, it was withdrawn on 12 October 1964 and subsequently scrapped. Cast brass, 5½"x4½", the front repainted. £250-400 |
