A worksplate, GREAT CENTRAL RAILWAY, GORTON WORKS, MANCHESTER, 1922, from a GCR Director Class 11F No 511 built in December 1922, the last engine built by the GC, and named MARNE after the First World War battle which halted the German onslaught in 1914. It became LNER D11 Class No 5511 and was renumbered 2670 in 1946, becoming BR 62670. Allocated to Immingham by January 1948 and later Trafford Park, Lincoln GN and Darnall from where it was withdrawn on 15 November 1960 and cut up at Doncaster Works. Cast brass, 10½"x6½", in ex loco condition; the engine number marked on the back. (See also next Lot) £700-1000 |
