A smokebox numberplate, 31827, from a (South Eastern & Chatham Railway) N Class 2-6-0 No A827 assembled at Ashford Works in May 1924 from parts made at Woolwich Arsenal, which had spare capacity after the First World War, with the exception of the boiler which was constructed by the North British Locomotive Co. It later became SR 1827 and BR 31827. Allocated to Eastleigh by January 1948, it spent most of its BR days at Bricklayers Arms before moving late on to Stewarts Lane, Brighton and Redhill from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 13 June 1964 and despatched for scrap to A. King at Norwich on 29 September 1964. The front repainted, the BR(S) Eastleigh triangle on the back. £400-600 |
