A safety valve bonnet from (GWR) 4073 Castle Class 4-6-0 7027 THORNBURY CASTLE built at Swindon and named after the Tudor castle in south Gloucestershire, now a luxury hotel. Allocated new to Newton Abbot on 26 August 1949 and later Laira, Old Oak Common for nine years, Worcester and Reading from where it was withdrawn on 28 December 1963 and sold to Woodham Bros at Barry on 30 April 1964. Saved for preservation, it is currently in the early stages of restoration at Williton on the West Somerset Railway. Brass, base diameter 29", top diameter 18½", height 16", the side ears to be added to these dimensions. Ex loco condition. £500-800 |
