A smokebox numberplate, 45502, from the LMS Patriot Class 6P 4-6-0 No 5959 built at Crewe in 1932, renumbered 5502 in 1934, becoming BR 45502. It was named ROYAL NAVAL DIVISION by Mr Winston Churchill at Euston Station on 5 June 1937. Allocated to Preston by January 1948 and later Crewe North, Willesden, Camden and Carlisle Upperby from where it was withdrawn on 2 September 1960, the first of the Class to be withdrawn, and cut up at Crewe Works by 6 October 1960. Ex loco condition. The plate is accompanied by a photocopy of its BR sale documents £2500-3000 |
