A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 2796, REBUILT, STRATFORD WORKS, 1912, from a Great Eastern Railway Class T26 2-4-0 No 1257 built at Stratford in July 1902 and renumbered 414 in 1920. It became LNER Class E4 No 7414 and was renumbered 2796 in 1946, becoming BR 62796. Allocated to Cambridge by January 1948, it moved in June 1949 to Norwich, returning in July 1955 to Cambridge from where it was withdrawn on 13 May 1957 and subsequently scrapped. We have been unable to establish the nature of the rebuilding referred to on the plate, not an uncommon feature of Stratford 9x5s. Cast brass, 9"x5", unpainted. £200-350 |
