Lot 140 |
A worksplate, MARTYN BROTHERS, AIRDRIE, N.B. This firm built tank locomotives for collieries. They acquired Dick & Stevenson's patterns and drawings in 1890 after their works, also in Airdrie, closed and in the next ten years built at least two and possibly six locos from these designs. The only loco they built that lasted post-war was one supplied to the Alloa Coal Company which worked latterly at Devon Colliery, Sauchie, Clackmannanshire and just made it into NCB ownership in 1947. It went to Andrew Barclay's works at Kilmarnock later that year, where it was scrapped. Cast brass, 8"x5", in ex loco condition. £300-500 |
| This lot sold for £1550. |
