A nameplate, CANADIAN PACIFIC, from the Southern Railway Merchant Navy Class 4-6-2 Bulleid Pacific No 21C5 built at Eastleigh in December 1941 and named at a ceremony at Victoria station on 27 March 1942 by Mr F.W. Mottley the acting European manager of the shipping line. It became BR 35005 and was rebuilt without its streamlined casing in May 1959. Allocated new to Salisbury, it moved to Exmouth Junction in 1942, to Nine Elms in 1948, back to Exmouth Junction in 1951 and to Salisbury in 1957. It finished its days at Bournemouth and Weymouth from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 9 October 1965 and despatched for scrap to Woodham Bros at Barry on 12 January 1966. Rescued for preservation, it was restored on the Great Central Railway at Loughborough and was used on main line steam specials. Currently it is being overhauled by the Mid-Hants Railway and was moved to Eastleigh Works in 2011. Cast brass with enamel flag, length 74¼", in ex loco condition. £35000-45000 |
