A nameplate, QUIDENHAM, from a LNER B17 Sandringham Class 4-6-0 No 2809 built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 23812, in December 1928 and named after a Carmelite Monastery in Norfolk. It was renumbered 1609 in 1946 and became BR 61609. Allocated to Stratford by January 1948 and later Ipswich, Yarmouth South Town, Norwich, Stratford again and finally back to Ipswich from where it was withdrawn on 23 June 1958 and cut up at Doncaster Works. Cast brass, length 48½", the front repainted. £4000-5000 |
