A South African Railways cabside numberplate, 1202, 8DW, from a Cape Government Railway 3ft 6ins gauge 8th Class 4-8-0 No 370 built by Neilson Reid, Works No 6288, in 1903, becoming SAR 1202 in 1912. The W suffix was added to the class designation when it was later fitted with a superheated boiler and inside admission piston valves. The 8 Class saw service on every system of the SAR and all were withdrawn by 1972. Cast brass, 20¾"x14½", the front repainted. £300-500 |
