| Lot 429 | A smokebox numberplate, 3813, from a GWR 2884 Class 2-8-0 built at Swindon in September 1939. It was one of the Class converted to oil burning and renumbered 4855 in July 1947 and re-converted in June 1949 when it regained its original number. Allocated to Laira by January 1948, it spent most of its BR days at Oxley with a final two years at Croes Newydd from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 10 July 1965 and sold for scrap to Birds Commercial Motors at Morriston on 8 September 1965. Repainted. £300-500 |
