Auction Catalogue: Great Central Railwayana, 2 March 2019
Lot 425 |
A bunker numberplate, SOUTHERN RAILWAY, E735, from a London Brighton & South Coast Railway Stroudley Terrier 0-6-0T No 668 CLAPHAM built at Brighton as No 68 in 1874, one of two Terriers purchased by the London & South Western Railway from the LBSCR for working the Axminster & Lyme Regis Railway operated by the LSWR from its opening in 1903 until absorbed by them in 1907, becoming LSWR No 735 and later SR 735. The two Terriers were soon displaced from the A&LRR because their wheelbase was too long. No 735 was then employed on a number of minor duties, including Devon branch line working, finishing its days at Ashford where it was used as a Works pilot interspersed with periods on loan at Chislet Colliery. Withdrawn from Ashford in December 1936, it was cut up shortly afterwards. Brass oval, 13½"x7½", the front repainted. £1000-1500 |
| This lot sold for £3400. |
