Lot 1 A BR(S) station fascia sign, DUNSLAND CROSS STATION, from the Okehampton to Bude route which closed in 1966. Enamel, 52¾"x11¾", in excellent condition. £500-800 - Sold for £580 to commission or postal bidder number 790.

Lot 2 A GWR signal lever plate, 6, UP RELIEF TO BADMINTON INNER HOME, 48, 47. Engraved brass, 7¾" long. £300-500 - Sold for £580.

Lot 3 A BR(S) double royal poster, THE BRIGHTON BELLE, by Barber, a fine view of the train, the timetable below. The poster laid down on linen to conserve. (AR6572, A5, 23753) £200-350 - Sold for £840.

Lot 4 A BR(Sc) totem sign, KINROSS JUNCTION, (f/f), from the closed Cowdenbeath to Bridge of Earn section of the direct route from Edinburgh to Perth, the junction for the Devon Valley route to Alloa and Stirling. £700-1000 - Sold for £1200.

Lot 5 A London and North Western Railway egg cup, with blue bands decorated with the company's Britannia emblem. £80-120 - Sold for £250.

Lot 6 A signal box diagram, DOVER MARINE, 1992, showing the terminus, ferry sidings and lines to Folkestone East and Hawkesbury Lane Junction, 61½"x28½", in original frame. £150-300 - Sold for £800.

Lot 7 A North Eastern Railway platform lamp with name, WETWANG, in frosted glass with raised blue lettering. The station which closed in 1950 was on the Malton to Driffield route. £250-400 - Sold for £600.

Lot 8 A worksplate, ENGLISH ELECTRIC, 3038/D700, 1962 from Class 37 D6746, later 37046. New to Sheffield Darnall in July 1962; sent to France in September 1999 and returned in August 2000. Withdrawn from Toton in February 2009 and cut up by C F Booth at Rotherham in September 2009. Chromed cast brass, 10¼"x4½", cleaned but unpainted. £500-800 - Sold for £700 to commission or postal bidder number 8813.

Lot 9 A carriage print, RED DEVON by Allinson, a view of LADRUM BAY, west of Sidmouth, from the Southern Railway series, presented in its original frame. £100-200 - Sold for £360 to commission or postal bidder number 547.

Lot 10 A LNER seatback plate, STAVELEY WORKS, from the Great Central Railway's Chesterfield loop; the station closed in 1963. Enamel, 42"x5", a couple of minor edge chips, otherwise excellent. £200-350 - Sold for £650.

Lot 11 A pull bar platform ticket machine, with British Transport Commission 2d faceplate. Repainted cast iron body with brass bar, overall 41" tall. £1500-2000 - Sold for £2200.

Lot 12 A BR(M) double royal poster, CARLISLE, by Kerry Lee, 1953, rolled. (LM8853) £150-300 - Sold for £170.

Lot 13 A North Eastern Railway, York Station Hotel candle holder, by Elkington. Silver plate, 6" diameter, complete with stand, candle holder and snuffer, £100-200 - Sold for £320 to commission or postal bidder number 4059.

Lot 14 A GWR signal box shelf plate, FROM BARMOUTH SOUTH, from Barmouth Junction on the Cambrian Coast route. Engraved brass, 4¾"x1½". £100-200 - Sold for £220.

Lot 15 A Great Northern Railway three aspect handlamp with brass plate, COLWICK NORTH JUNCT No 8, complete with slide-in vessel, repainted, flaking to base of lens. £150-300 - Sold for £300.

Lot 16 A BR(NE) notice, NO PARKING, (f/f), enamel, 24"x12", edge chips and a chip on the top of the letter P, otherwise excellent. £150-300 - Sold for £280 to commission or postal bidder number 8524.

Lot 17 A shedplate, 34B Hornsey (1949 to July 1961, closed as a diesel depot 1971). This ex GNR shed was home to 60 locos during its final eighteen months. It was also noted for its servicing of locos visiting the adjacent Ferme Park marshalling yard. Repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £420.

Lot 18 A signal box nameboard, DUCKMANTON NORTH, a box on the Great Central Main Line south of Staveley, the junction for Arkright Town and the LD&EC route. Cast letters on wood, length 96". £150-300 - Sold for £230.

Lot 19 A NBR silver plated salver by Elkington, 11¾" diameter,the border marked NORTH BRITISH STATION HOTEL, EDINBURGH, and with the company's coat of arms. £150-300 - Sold for £150.

Lot 20 A BR(W) totem sign, OXFORD, (f/f), in excellent condition. £500-800 - Sold for £1250 to commission or postal bidder number 1043.

Lot 21 A GWR and LNWR platform lamp with the name, HANWOOD, in raised blue glass on a frosted background, overall height 17½". The station which closed in 1960 was on the Shrewsbury to Welshpool route. £200-350 - Sold for £420.

Lot 22 A GWR nameboard, GREENLAND MILL CROSSING GROUND FRAME. The crossing is at Bradford on Avon adjacent to Bradford Tunnel. Cast iron, 24"x4½", the front repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £210.

Lot 23 A Tyers single line tablet, LIMAVADY-LIMAVADY JUNC, (brass), from the Dungiven to Limavady Junction branch which closed in 1950. £250-400 - Sold for £420 to commission or postal bidder number 3794.

Lot 24 A GWR lamp glass, RODWELL, from the Weymouth to Portland and Easton branch; the station closed in 1952. Frosted glass with raised blue lettering, 15¾"x2¼". £100-200 - Sold for £80.

Lot 25 A worksplate, NORTH BRITISH LOCOMOTIVE Co, 25038, 1943, from a War Department Austerity 2-8-0 built in June 1943 to Ministry of Supply order, WD No 77167. Loaned new to the LNER, it returned to the WD in December 1944 and was shipped to Holland, becoming Dutch Railways No 4339. On returning to the UK, it was again loaned in March 1947 to the LNER and taken into BR stock the following year as 90154. Its BR sheds were Hull Springhead, Mexborough, Colwick, New England and Doncaster from where it was withdrawn on 17 April 1966 and cut up by Drapers at Hull in the week ending 17 September 1966. Cast white brass, 14"x5½", lightly cleaned. £150-300 - Sold for £150 to commission or postal bidder number 8578.

Lot 26 A LNER seatback plate, EAST NEWPORT, from the Dundee to Tayport and Leuchars Junction route closed in 1967. The station was renamed Newport on Tay East in the early 1950s. Cast iron, 40" long, in original condition. £300-500 - Sold for £220 to commission or postal bidder number 380.

Lot 27 A pair of GWR Hotels silver plated cake tongs, 9" long, by Walker and Hall. £100-200 - Sold for £250.

Lot 28 A Great Northern Railway (Ireland) lamp tablet, CRUMLIN, from the Antrim Junction to Lisburn route. Cast iron, 16¼" long, in original condition. £200-350 - Sold for £300 to commission or postal bidder number 1984.

Lot 29 A GWR cabside numberplate, 4280, from a 4200 Class 2-8-0T built at Swindon in May 1920. A long time Newport Pill engine, it was withdrawn from there on 22 January 1963 and sold for scrap to Birds Commercial Motors at Risca on 11 November 1963. Cast brass, the front repainted. £400-600 - Sold for £580 to commission or postal bidder number 7378.

Lot 30 A Southern Railway target sign, PARKSTONE, from the Bournemouth to Poole route. Face and edge chips all neatly restored. £500-800 - Sold for £1250 to commission or postal bidder number 3428.

Lot 31 A shedplate 33B Tilbury (1949 to June 1962). This ex LT&SR shed was home to 20 locos which included 12 Tilbury tanks in 1950. By 1957 these had been replaced by BR Standard Class 4 2-6-4Ts and in 1958 this shed gained a few WD 2-8-0s. The front repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £480.

Lot 32 A Caledonian Railway semaphore block instrument, with block bell on top and central tapper at the base, overall height 26". £500-700 - Sold for £1100 to commission or postal bidder number 1179.

Lot 33 A South African Railways cabside numberplate, 3509, from a 3ft 6ins gauge Class 25 4-8-4 built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 27369, in 1954 with condensing apparatus. Most had their condensing apparatus removed between 1979 and 1982, including No 3509, and were re-classified to Class 25NC with the initials NC being added after the Class number on the numberplate. Cast brass, 20¾"x14½", original paintwork, the front polished. £450-700 - Sold for £360.

Lot 34 A Dundee and Arbroath Joint Railway trespass notice, signed J. Blackburn and Jas McLaran, Secretaries to the Caledonian and North British Companies, Sept 1918. Enamel, 20"x15", restoration to edge chipping and a couple of face chips, though the text largely unaffected, loss to top left corner and some loss of shine. £250-400 - Sold for £530.

Lot 35 A BR(M) totem sign, WILMSLOW, (f/f), from the Crewe to Stockport route. A few minor blemishes. £300-500 - Sold for £720.

Lot 36 A GWR signal box diagram, RUABON NORTH BOX, 1918, showing the lines towards Wrexham and Shrewsbury. The diagram is presented in a wooden frame, overall 45"x16¼". £100-200 - Sold for £540.

Lot 37 A London Transport target sign, BOND STREET a Central Line station with Jubilee Line platforms. Enamel within brass frame, 24"x20", in excellent condition. £500-800 - Sold for £1150.

Lot 38 A worksplate, ANDREW BARCLAY, 898, 1901, from a standard gauge 0-4-0ST new to Wilsons & Clyde Coal Co. Ltd, Glencraig Colliery, near Lochgelly, Fife, running number 3. Passed with colliery to the NCB on 1st January 1947 and subsequently worked at a number of other collieries in Fife with the running number 49. It finished its days at Mary Colliery, Lochore, where it was scrapped on site by J. Weaver & Co. Ltd. in July 1968. Cast brass, 16¾"x11¾", the front repainted. £200-350 - Sold for £280.

Lot 39 A Tyers No 6 line tablet, BARNSTAPLE TOWN-POTTINGTON, (brass/steel), from the Barnstaple Junction to Ilfracombe route which closed in 1970. £350-500 - Sold for £380 to commission or postal bidder number 228.

Lot 40 A shedplate, 21B Bournville (1935 to February 1960) then Bescot (June 1960 to September 1963). The ex Midland shed at Bournville was home to a variety of ex LMS locos numbering 22 in the final few months of its life. The code then passed to the former LNWR shed at Bescot when its allocation was around 80 locos. The front repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £190.

Lot 41 A single line key token, WHITSTONE & BRIDGERULE-BUDE, (alloy), from the Okehampton to Bude route which closed in 1966. £150-300 - Sold for £260.

Lot 42 A North British Railway signal box nameboard, AUCHTERHOUSE, from the Dundee and Newtyle route with closed in 1955. Enamel, 56½"x8", edge chipping and small face chips, lettering largely unaffected. £200-350 - Sold for £780.

Lot 43 A nameplate, SHAMROCK, LNWR CREWE WORKS, AUGT 1907, from a London & North Western Railway Precursor Class 4-4-0 No 1309 built at Crewe in August 1907 to Whale's design and named after the national emblem of Ireland. It became LMS No 5302 in April 1928 and was renumbered 25302 in August 1936 before withdrawal on 2 May 1937. Engraved brass, 52¼", in ex loco condition. £6000-8000 - Sold for £5800.

Lot 44 A BR(W) totem sign, KENSINGTON OLYMPIA, (f/f), from the West London route between Old Oak Common and Clapham Junction. £800-1200 - Sold for £1800.

Lot 45 A Midland Railway signal lever description plate, HOME FROM DORSTONE, TO SIDING, engraved brass, 11¾"x2½", from Hay or Hay Junction signal box on the Hereford, Hay and Brecon route, closed in 1962. Dorstone was on the Golden Valley Railway which ran between Hay-on-Wye and Pontrilas and closed in 1950. £150-300 - Sold for £340.

Lot 46 A (GWR) cabside numberplate, 3219, from a 2251 Class 0-6-0, the last of the Class built at Swindon in January 1948. Allocated new to Worcester, it spent its last ten years at Reading from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 30 November 1963 and despatched for scrap to A King at Norwich on 3 April 1964. Cast brass, the front repainted. £400-600 - Sold for £540.

Lot 47 A Southern Railway target sign, TISBURY, from the Salisbury to Templecombe section of the West of England main line, a face chip above the letter S and other minor chips neatly restored. £600-900 - Sold for £1050.

Lot 48 A LNER silver plated Coronation pattern ice bucket 5½" tall, by Walker and Hall. £100-200 - Sold for £120.

Lot 49 A worksplate, GREAT CENTRAL RLY, GORTON, 1911. Locos built at Gorton in 1911 included GCR Class 8K/LNER O4 Class 2-8-0 and GCR Class 9N/LNER A5 Class 4-6-2T. Cast brass, 9¾"x5¼", cleaned and the front repainted. £300-500 - Sold for £580.

Lot 50 A BR(NE) totem sign, STEETON & SILSDEN, (h/f), from the Midland main line between Keighley and Skipton; the station closed in 1965. Slight loss of shine. A rare totem, this example was originally sold in 1995 and is the only one to have appeared. £1000-1500 - Sold for £1000.

Lot 51 A London and South Western Railway four aspect handlamp with L&SWR Co embossed brass plate, the body, top and vessel all stamped with company initials, repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £110.

Lot 52 A nameplate LANARKSHIRE VOYAGER from Class 220 220012. Named in 2001; the plate was removed in November 2007. Cast aluminium, 34¼"x15", in ex loco condition. £500-800 - Sold for £880.

Lot 53 A London Brighton and South Coast Railway banner signal repeater, 4" diameter, with brass plate, TO DOWN ADVANCE SIGNAL NO 5. £200-350 - Sold for £500.

Lot 54 A London and North Western Railway Dining Saloons salt glaze earthenware jar, height 9½", diameter 7½", the name prominently displayed on the side. £80-120 - Sold for £210.

Lot 55 A worksplate, VULCAN, 4918, 1943, from a War Department Austerity 2-8-0 built to Ministry of Supply order in September 1943, WD No 77102. Loaned new to the LNER, it returned to the WD in January 1945, loaned to the GWR in May 1947 and taken into BR stock the following year as 90565. Its BR sheds were Ebbw Junction, Cardiff Canton, Gloucester LM, Didcot, Banbury and Southall from where it was withdrawn on 7 September 1962 and cut up at Crewe Works by 3 January 1964. Cast brass, 9½"x5¾", lightly cleaned but unpainted. £150-300 - Sold for £260.

Lot 56 A single line key token, PENWITHIER (Sic) JCT-PENRYN, (alloy), from the Truro to Falmouth branch. £100-200 - Sold for £260.

Lot 57 A BR(S) totem sign, FISHERGATE HALT, (f/f), from the Brighton to Portsmouth route; the Halt between Hove and Shoreham. £300-500 - Sold for £640.

Lot 58 A BR(NE) double royal poster. YORK, by Claude Buckle. (1952) £150-300 - Sold for £260.

Lot 59 A BR(S) totem sign, LONDON ROAD, (Guildford) (f/f) from the Guildford to Surbiton route, minor blemishes. £400-600 - Sold for £660 to commission or postal bidder number 1650.

Lot 60 A signal box diagram, LMSR, KINGENNIE, showing lines to Forfar and Dundee, dated 1923, original frame, 32"x17" with small steel hangers. £150-300 - Sold for £120.

Lot 61 A worksplate, AVONSIDE, 1989, 1926, from a GWR 1101 Class 0-4-0T No 1103, one of a class of only six powerful engines all built by Avonside in 1926 for working in Swansea Docks. Always allocated to Danygraig, it was withdrawn on 11 January 1960 and sold for scrap to T.W. Ward at Bristol on 1 April 1960. Cast brass, 10¾x7½", the front repainted. £200-350 - Sold for £820.

Lot 62 A GWR signal box shelf plate, HOCKLEY NORTH, from the Birmingham Snow Hill to Wolverhampton route. Engraved brass, 4¾"x½". £100-200 - Sold for £150.

Lot 63 A BR(NE) station sign, PLATFORM 8, COAST STATIONS VIA WALLSEND, (flangeless). Enamel, 40"x14½", some edge chipping repainted. £350-500 - Sold for £380.

Lot 64 A worksplate, NORTH BRITISH LOCOMOTIVE Co Ltd, 27737, 1958, from a standard gauge 0-4-0 diesel-hydraulic locomotive new to Shelton Iron & Steel Ltd, Etruria, Stoke-on-Trent, and named PANTHER. Later became part of the British Steel Corporation and transferred in January 1979 to Bewsey Road Rolling Mills, Warrington, Lancashire. Scrapped there circa 1983. Cast brass, 13¾"x5½", cleaned but unpainted. £100-200 - Sold for £100 to commission or postal bidder number 8578.

Lot 65 A London & North Western Railway three aspect handlamp. The side stamped, LNWR, BANBURY GOODS, the top stamped, LNWR CAR DEPT WOLVERTON, (the place of manufacture). The lamp is complete with its LNWR vessel and is repainted. It was used at Banbury Merton Street station, whose services ran to Buckingham and over the SMJR route to Towcester. £150-300 - Sold for £200.

Lot 66 A Railway Signal Company miniature staff, CROSSBARRY-BALLINHASIG, from the Cork, Brandon and South Coast Railways Cork to Bantry route, closed in 1961. £200-350 - Sold for £250.

Lot 67 A smokebox numberplate, 3824, from a 2884 Class 2-8-0 built at Swindon in September 1940. Allocated to Cardiff Canton by January 1948 and later Pontypool Road and Ebbw Junction from where it was withdrawn on 8 June 1964 and sold for scrap to Birds Commercial Motors at Risca on 18 August 1964. Repainted. £250-400 - Sold for £250.

Lot 68 A signal box diagram, BLACKBOY LANE CROSSING, from the Portsmouth to Brighton route, the box between Fishbourne and Southbourne. 39½"X21¼", original frame. £100-200 - Sold for £320.

Lot 69 A BR(S) doorplate, LADIES ROOM, (f/f), enamel, 18"x6", minor edge chips otherwise excellent. £100-200 - Sold for £260.

Lot 70 A BR(S) totem sign, BISHOPSTONE, (f/f), from the Lewes to Seaford branch. Minor edge chips and slight loss of shine. £250-400 - Sold for £1000.

Lot 71 A nameplate, 603 SQUADRON, with its badge depicting Edinburgh Castle and the motto, GIN YE DAUR (if you dare), for the City of Edinburgh Auxiliary Squadron, from the (SR) Class BB Battle of Britain 4-6-2 No 34077 built at Brighton in July 1948 and rebuilt without its original streamlined casing in July 1960. Allocated new to Ramsgate on 10 July 1948, it moved to Stewarts Lane by January 1958 and later Nine Elms, Feltham and Eastleigh from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 25 March 1967 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Newport on 6 October 1967. A splendid set with arguably the finest of all the Squadron badges. Cast brass, 54¼", the front repainted. (See also next Lot) £20000-30000 - Sold for £30000.

Lot 72 A smokebox numberplate, 34077, from the (SR) Class BB Battle of Britain 4-6-2, 603 SQUADRON, built at Brighton in July 1948. Repainted, the BR(S) triangle cast on the back. (See previous Lot for locomotive history) £1700-2200 - Sold for £2000.

Lot 73 A BR(W) double royal poster, STRATFORD-UPON-AVON, Theatre at the Old Falcon, by Gordon Nichol. (PR126) £150-300 - Sold for £320 to commission or postal bidder number 8153.

Lot 74 A shedplate, 65B St. Rollox (1949 to November 1966). The ex CR shed was noted for being home to all four named Black 5s in the early 1950s when its allocation numbered around 80 locos. In its final year it had just 13 locos, one of them being A4 60031 Golden Plover. The front repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £130.

Lot 75 A Railway Signal Company miniature staff, ARMAGH SOUTH-TYNAN, from the Great Northern Railway's Armagh to Clones route. £150-300 - Sold for £260.

Lot 76 A signal box nameboard, HALL LANE JUNCTION, a box on the Staveley Town to Chesterfield route. Cast letters on wood, length 96". £150-300 - Sold for £220.

Lot 77 A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 61446, DARLINGTON WORKS, 1923, from a LNER B16 Class 4-6-0 No 2375 built at Darlington in May 1923, renumbered 1446 in 1923, becoming BR 61446. Allocated to York North by January 1948, it moved the following year to Neville Hill from where it was withdrawn on 17 January 1961 and cut up at Darlington Works. Cast iron, 9"x5", the front repainted. £250-400 - Sold for £460 to commission or postal bidder number 8329.

Lot 78 A worksplate, NORTH BRITISH LOCOMOTIVE Co, 24913, 1944, from a War Department Austerity 2-8-0 built to Ministry of Supply order in June 1944, WD No 70853. It was loaned to the Southern Railway in June 1947 and acquired by BR the following year becoming 90332. A long time Huddersfield engine, it moved at the end to Normanton from where it was withdrawn in January 1967 and sold for scrap to Wards at Killamarsh. Cast white brass, 13½"x5½", in ex loco condition. £150-300 - Sold for £330.

Lot 79 A (GWR) cabside numberplate, 9416, from a 9400 Class 0-6-0PT built by Robert Stephenson & Hawthorns Ltd, Works No 7553, and allocated new to Oxford on 4 May 1950. Its later sheds were Old Oak Common, Landore, Swansea East Dock and Aberbeeg from where it was withdrawn on 8 January 1962 and cut up at Swindon Works in the week ending 24 March 1962. Cast brass, ex loco condition. £350-500 - Sold for £400.

Lot 80 A GWR signal box shelf plate, TO TORQUAY GAS SIDING, from Torquay signal box. The sidings were between Torquay and Paignton. Engraved brass, 4¾"x1½". £100-200 - Sold for £320.

Lot 81 A nameplate STEWARTS LANE 1860 - 1985 from Class 73 73125, later 73204 and 73962. Named in September 1985 at an Open Day; name removed May 1999 before becoming property of GBRF. Cast aluminium, 58¾"x17¾", ex loco condition. £1000-1500 - Sold for £700.

Lot 82 A GWR doorplate, LADIES ROOM, pre group pattern, cast iron, 19¾"x5", in original condition. £100-200 - Sold for £110.

Lot 83 A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 9820, SHARP STEWART, 1901, from a North British Railway Class D 0-6-0T No 820 built by Sharp Stewart, Works No 4728, in April 1901. It became LNER J83 Class No 9820 and was renumbered 8467 in 1946, becoming BR 68467. Allocated to Thornton Junction by January 1948, it moved in September 1956 to Polmont from where it was withdrawn on 2 September 1959 and sold for scrap to J.N. Connell at Coatbridge on 28 October 1959. Cast iron, 9"x5", in ex loco condition. £200-350 - Sold for £580.

Lot 84 A LNER silver plated bowl, 4¼" diameter, by Walker & Hall, with name LNER HOTEL PETERBOROUGH in belted garter. £80-120 - Sold for £320.

Lot 85 A BR(S) totem sign, SHEPHERDS WELL, (f/f), from the Dover to Canterbury route. The station was the junction for the East Kent Railway. A couple of minor edge chips, just into the green. £300-500 - Sold for £1400.

Lot 86 A smokebox numberplate, 90095, from a War Department Austerity 2-8-0 built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 25352, in November 1944 to Ministry of Supply order, WD No 78591. Loaned in December 1945 to the LNER who purchased it in December 1946 as their O7 Class No 3095, becoming BR 90095. It spent all its BR days at Woodford Halse from where it was withdrawn on 14 June 1963 and cut up at Crewe Works by 2 August 1963. The front repainted. £300-500 - Sold for £800 to commission or postal bidder number 612.

Lot 87 A Railway Signal Co miniature train staff, TUAM-BALLYGLUNIN, from the Athenry to Claremorris route. £100-200 - Sold for £240 to commission or postal bidder number 4538.

Lot 88 A LNER three aspect handlamp with a brass plate, PINCHBECK, complete with slide in vessel, a little wear to the base of the brass plate. £100-200 - Sold for £260 to commission or postal bidder number 8479.

Lot 89 A Tyers No 6 single line tablet, BOLSOVER-GLAPWELL, (brass), from the Staveley to Glapwell Colliery branch, closed in 1978, which once extended south to Pleasley, closing in 1930. £200-350 - Sold for £260.

Lot 90 A Tyers No 9 type key token instrument, the later model with lighter alloy body. £400-600 - Sold for £1450.

Lot 99 A shedplate, 74A Ashford (1950 to October 1958). This ex SR shed had six King Arthurs in an allocation of 60 in 1950. By the time it was recoded 73F in 1958, the total number of locos was down to 40. It finally closed to steam in June 1962. Lot 105 A worksplate, CLYDE, General Motors, G8B, 62-247, from a Victoria Railways T Class Bo-Bo diesel electric No T362 built by Clyde in 1962 to a dual gauge of 1435 and 1600mm, one of a class of 93 locos built between 1955 and 1968. They were used on passenger and freight services state wide and were still in service in the mid 1990s. Lot 113 A nameplate, MADOQUA, from the LNER B1 Class 4-6-0 No 1027 built at Darlington, Works No 2007, in May 1947 and named after a small species of southern African antelope. Allocated new to New England, it moved in May 1953 to Hitchin where it remained for six years before transferring in July 1959 to Darnall from where it was withdrawn on 16 September 1962 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Great Bridge on 21 March 1963. Lot 120 A worksplate, GNR(I), 1931, DUNDALK. No locomotives were built at Dundalk in 1931 or thereabouts but the Company's railcars Nos 7 and 8 were built there in 1931 and it is believed that this plate, from the H.C. Casserley collection, may well come from one of those railcars, both of which were withdrawn in 1949. The alternative is that was a tender built as a replacement for an older tender. Lot 129 A presentation fruit bowl, by Walker and Hall to Mrs William Scott, on the occasion of her husband receiving a gold watch and £120 from friends on completing 21 years service on the North British Railway, 1895. Lot 131 A worksplate, KERR STUART, 3117, 1918, from a 2ft 0in gauge 0-6-0 side tank new to the Ministry of Munitions, National Shipyard No 2, Beachley Dock, Chepstow, Monmouthshire. Sold by auction in October 1920 to a dealer and later resold to Penrhyn Quarries, Bethesda, Caernarvonshire. Named SGT. MURPHY after the 1923 Grand National winner. Rebuilt at Bethesda in 1932 and withdrawn from service in 1955. Passed into preservation in 1964 and currently located at the Teifi Valley Railway in Mid Wales. Cast brass, 12¾"x6¾", unrestored with some paint to the face. £200-350 - Sold for £520.

Lot 135 A shedplate, 2B Nuneaton (1950 to September 1963) then Oxley (September 1963 to closed to steam November 1966). The ex LNWR shed at Nuneaton had an allocation of 70 locos during the 1950s, before it lost this code to become 5E. The ex GWR shed at Oxley was transferred from the WR (84B), and its allocation of around 60 locos included 15 Granges and 2 Manors. The front repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £240.

Lot 143 A smokebox numberplate, 5752, from a 5700 Class 0-6-0PT built at Swindon in April 1929. A long time Didcot engine, it was withdrawn from there on 24 February 1957 and sold to the London Transport Executive, becoming their No L91. Withdrawn by LT in 1960 and subsequently scrapped, it was replaced as L91 by 5757 of the same class. Ex loco condition. £250-400 - Sold for £300.

Lot 146 A shedplate, 62A Thornton Junction (1948 to April 1967). This ex NBR shed housed around 100 locos throughout the 1950s, with the exotic 4-4-0s of classes D11, D29, D30, D34 and D49 being the celebrities. 1960 saw 5 K4s added, but by 1966 only 30 run of the mill freight class locos were allocated. Lot 152 A Great North Eastern Railway crest from Class 91 hauled Mark 4 coaches. Cast brass, 19½"x22", fine original condition. The crest is accompanied by its original sales paperwork (the initial offer to staff and dispatch letters). £500-800 - Sold for £500.

Lot 153 A nameplate, PRINCESS BEATRICE, from the GWR 4000 Star Class 4-6-0 No 4052 built at Swindon in June 1914 and named after a daughter (1857-1944) of Queen Victoria who became Princess Henry of Battenberg. Allocated to Oxford by January 1948, it spent its final years at Hereford, Worcester and Shrewsbury from where it was withdrawn on 30 June 1953 and cut up at Swindon Works in the four weeks ending 5 September 1953. Lot 156 A worksplate, DUBS, 3073, 1893, from a 3ft 6ins gauge Cape Government Railways 6th Class 4-6-0 No 150 which became South African Railways Class 6 No 420 on the formation of the SAR in 1912. Lot 157 A single line key token, LLANYMYNECH-FOUR CROSSES, (alloy) from the Oswestry to Welshpool route which closed in 1965. £150-300 - Sold for £200.

Lot 158 A shedplate 16D Mansfield (1935 to October 1955), then Annesley (February 1958 to September 1963), finally Nottingham (September 1963 to April 1965). Ex MR Mansfield had an allocation of just 25 locos during the 1950s, Ex GCR shed Annesley, formerly 38B, was transferred to the LMR, and its allocation of 70 locos carried this code. Finally, ex MR Nottingham, formerly 16A, had around 60 locos on its books in 1964. An LMS style code in Ex loco condition. £100-200 - Sold for £300.

Lot 159 A Southern Railway target sign, ELTHAM PARK, from the Lewisham to Dartford route. Edge and face chips restored, some wasting at the edges. £150-300 - Sold for £100.

Lot 162 A shedplate, 41D Canklow (February 1958 to October 1965). This ex Midland shed was transferred from the LMR (19C) to the ER in 1958 when it maintained 50 locos. By 1965 it was still looking after 27 freight locos. Repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £180.

Lot 163 A BR(E) double royal poster, SUFFOLK, CODDENHAM, by Leonard Squirrell, laid down to conserve, a little restoration to top edge. (AR.1117) £200-350 - Sold for £200.

Lot 164 A long section key token from the West Highland Line, UPPER TYNDRUM-RANNOCH, (brass), these unusual keys were introduced at the time of the introduction at RETB (Radio Electronic Token Block). Problems with radio reception were causing delays to trains and in order to improve reliability emergency key token working was introduced between Tyndrum Upper and Mallaig Junction, though these locations had by then been renamed to avoid confusion during radio communications. Lot 181 A worksplate, LMS, BUILT 1886, ST ROLLOX, from a Caledonian Railway 294 Class 0-6-0 No 367 which was rebuilt in 1895 and sold to HM Government for use by the Railway Operating Division of the Royal Engineers in October 1917, ROD No still 367. It was repurchased by the CR in June 1919 and placed on their duplicate list as No 1367, becoming LMS No 17312 and BR 57312. Allocated to Hurlford by January 1935, it moved in 1940 to Ayr from where it was withdrawn on 27 August 1951 and subsequently scrapped. Cast brass, 10½"x6", the front repainted. £250-400 - Sold for £460.

Lot 184 A nameplate, THE PRINCE OF WALES'S VOLUNTEERS SOUTH LANCASHIRE with its regimental badge displayed above the nameplate, from the LMS Royal Scot Class 7P 4-6-0 No 6137 built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 23632, in 1927, becoming BR 46137 and the last of the Class to be rebuilt with tapered boiler in March 1955. Originally named VESTA in 1928 after the pioneer loco built by Robert Stephenson, it was renamed after the locally based regiment at Warrington Bank Quay station on 14 October 1936. Allocated new to Crewe North on 1 October 1927, its later sheds included Upperby, Camden, Crewe North, Edge Hill, Longsight, Saltley and finally back to Upperby from where it was withdrawn on 31 October 1962 and cut up at Crewe Works by 9 May 1963. The nameplate, 50½" long, a small steel plate, on which the badge is mounted, bolts to the top of the plate. Cast brass, length 60¾", the badge 11" diameter. £22000-25000 - Sold for £26500.

Lot 193 A shedplate, 75E Three Bridges (1948 to June 1964). This ex LBSCR shed had 30 locos on its books in the 1950s., which dwindled to just 14 within a few months of closure. Ex loco condition. £150-300 - Sold for £140.

Lot 195 A worksplate, LMS BUILT 1878 DERBY, from a Midland Railway 1102 Class 0-6-0T No 1396 built in 1878, rebuilt in 1900, renumbered 1679 in 1907 and rebuilt in January 1910 with a gangway for motor working the Worth Valley branch. It retained its MR number in LMS days and was withdrawn in October 1934. Cast brass, 10¼"x6", in ex loco condition. £250-400 - Sold for £320.

Lot 197 A BR(M) totem sign, FURNESS VALE, (f/f, face fixing), from the Buxton to Stockport route. A rare example; no totems from the station have been offered for sale before. £2000-2500 - Sold for £2000.

Lot 198 A nameplate WEST YORKSHIRE METROPOLITAN COUNTY and badge carried by Class 43 43121. These silver reflective plates were carried between March 1991 and January 1999. This power car had previously carried cast plates between September 1984 and August 1988. 39¼"x9¾", the badge 8¾" square. £800-1200 - Sold for £1550.

Lot 199 A shedplate, 10F Wigan Lower Ince (May 1950 to March 1952), then Rose Grove (September 1963 to August 1968). The former GCR shed at Wigan, originally 13G, was home to just 12 LNER J10 0-6-0s. Rose Grove, the ex L&Y shed, formerly 24B in LMS and early BR days, had around 25 locos during this period, and was one of the final sheds operating at the close of steam. Lot 201 A smokebox numberplate, 31848, from a South Eastern & Chatham Railway N1 Class 2-6-0 No 848 assembled at Ashford in February 1925 from a complete set of parts made at Woolwich Arsenal except for the boiler, supplied by the North British Locomotive Co. It was renumbered A848 and SR 1848, becoming BR 31848. Allocated to Salisbury by January 1948, it spent most of its BR days at Ashford and Exmouth Junction from where it was withdrawn on 14 February 1964 and cut up immediately at Eastleigh Works. £500-600 - Sold for £1050.

A long time Doncaster engine, it moved in 1959 to Retford GC and early in 1965 to Retford GN from where it was withdrawn on 31 January 1965 and despatched for scrap to Maples & Gillott at Sheffield on 10 June 1965. Lot 228 A late 19th century GER mahogany roundhead fusee clock of typical design. Used originally at Liverpool Street, Loco. Dept. timekeeperﾒs office, transferred in 1941 to timekeeperﾒs office at Pyewipe under the Lincoln Yard Master. Overall height: 13¾ inches. The box of thick wood typical of GER. One piece convex moulded dial surround housing cast brass bezel. Box and surround branded GER to the rear several times. Bottom door lock replaced with brass turn. Box with sections cut out from top - now filled and from the inside of the surround at the top and the dial with an arc cut out at top, now filled; all modifications probably to allow pendulum to be set in motion from the top. 12 inch re-painted dial re-written GER and with Ivorine number plate marked 946 as fitted to many LNER ex-GER clocks. Chain fusee movement between rectangular plates, front plate stamped GER. Complete with pendulum scratched GER, winder and copies of record entries. £400-600 - Sold for £620 to commission or postal bidder number 7041.

Lot 231 A nameplate, DICK TURPIN, from the LNER A1 Class 4-6-2 No 2579 built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 23117, in November 1924 and named after the notorious highwayman, one of only five of the Class not named after racehorses. It was rebuilt and re-classified to A3 Class in November 1942, renumbered 80 in 1946, becoming BR 60080. Allocated new to Heaton where it remained until 1960 apart from a year or so at Gateshead in 1944/5, it moved in May 1960 to Holbeck and later Ardsley, Neville Hill and Gateshead from where it was withdrawn on 12 October 1964 and cut up by Drapers at Hull in the week ending 19 December 1964. Cast brass, length 56½", the front repainted. £8000-10000 - Sold for £8000.

Locos built by the London Brighton & South Coast Railway at Brighton in 1879 were D Class 0-4-2T Nos 274-291 (18 in all), E/E1 Class 0-6-0T Nos 135-144 (10 in all) and Richmond Class 0-4-2 tender locos Nos 209 and 210 (2 only). Lot 242 A cabside numberplate, GWR 83,from a Rhymney Railway P Class 0-6-2T No 6 built by Robert Stephenson & Co, Works No 3374, in August 1909. When the company and its locomotives was absorbed by the GWR in 1922 it became GWR 83 and was overhauled by Kitson & Co in 1924 and later rebuilt at Swindon with a Standard No 10 boiler in September 1939. Allocated to Dowlais (Cae Harris) in 1934, it moved to Rhymney in BR days ending its days at Cardiff East Dock from where it was withdrawn in May 1955 and cut up at Swindon Works. Cast iron, the front repainted. £1200-1500 - Sold for £980.

Lot 243 A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 9164, COWLAIRS, 1913, from a North British Railway Class A 0-6-2T No 223 built, not at Cowlairs Works, but by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 20165, in May 1913. It became LNER N19 Class No 9223 and was renumbered 9164 in 1946, becoming BR 69164. A long time Dunfermline engine, it spent a final year at Dundee Tay Bridge from where it was withdrawn on 15 April 1959 and sold for scrap to Motherwell Machinery & Scrap at Wishaw. Cast brass, 9"x5", the front repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £180.

Lot 244 A worksplate, ENGLISH ELECTRIC, 3813/D1184, 1968 from Class 50 D443, later 50043. New to Crewe Diesel in October 1968 and named EAGLE in June 1978. Withdrawn from Laira in February 1991; initially entering preservation but finally cut up by Raxstar at the Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway in January 2002. Chromed cast brass, 10¼"x4½", the front cleaned and repainted. £800-1200 - Sold for £2400.

Lot 246 A worksplate, LMS, REBUILT 1918, DERBY, from an unidentified Midland Railway loco rebuilt at Derby Works in 1918. Cast brass, 10½"x6", the front repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £100.

Lot 247 A set of enamel destination indicator plates, LEVEN and ALLOA, with AM/PM and other plates all displayed in a wooden frame. Overall 7½"x26½", the names 6½"x3". £100-200 - Sold for £120.

Lot 248 A shedplate, 10D Plodder Lane (1935 to October 1954), then Sutton Oak (October 1954 to February 1958), and Lostock Hall (September 1963 to August 1968). The ex LNWR shed at Plodder Lane had just 17 locos on its books. On closure the code was adopted by ex LNWR shed Sutton Oak, formerly 10E, which looked after 35 locos. It became 8G and closed in June 1967. Finally, ex LYR shed Lostock Hall, formerly 24C, had an allocation of 30 when using this code. The front repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £300.

Lot 249 A nameplate SIR JOHN DE GRAEME from Class 47 47636. Named at Falkirk Grahamston station in April 1986; the plates were removed in January 1993. Lot 251 A Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway three aspect handlamp with brass plate, HINDOLVESTONE GATES. The station was on the Melton Constable to Norwich City Line and closed in 1959. Possibly repaired long ago. £500-700 - Sold for £550.

Lot 252 A nameplate, KNIGHT OF THE THISTLE, from the GWR 4000 Star Class 4-6-0 No 4012 built at Swindon in March 1908 and named after the British Order of Chivalry associated with Scotland. It spent its final days at Newton Abbot from where it was withdrawn on 21 October 1949 and cut up at Swindon Works in the four weeks ending 25 February 1950. An impressive plate, 83½" long, repainted a long time ago, and complete with its original sales paperwork. £15000-20000 - Sold for £19000.

Lot 257 A French front numberplate, 040.DG.49, incorporating the SNCF logo, from a Bo-Bo loco built in 1961. Various builders built this class ﾖ CAFI/CEM/Alsthom/Fives-Lille. The early class numbering lasted only until January 1962 when it became BB 66049. The loco was based at Tours St Pierre in Region Sud-Ouest. Cast aluminium, 22½"x17¼", the front repainted. £200-350 - Sold for £320.

Lot 259 A smokebox numberplate, 65862, from a North Eastern Railway Class P3, LNER J27 Class, 0-6-0 No 2340, built at Darlington in December 1921. It retained its NER number until renumbered 5862 in 1946, becoming BR 65862. Allocated to Heaton by January 1948, it moved in July 1951 to South Blyth from where it was withdrawn on 4 October 1965 and sold for scrap to Ellis Metals at Swalwell. Lot 274 A smokebox numberplate, 40656, from a LMS Class 2P 4-4-0 No 656 built at Crewe, Works No 6097, in 1931. Lot 280 A GWR cabside numberplate, 9018, from a 9000 Class 4-4-0 built at Swindon in April 1938, using the frames of withdrawn Bulldog Class No 3380 and replacing Duke Class No 3266, hence the Class often being known as Dukedogs. Numbered 3266 when rebuilt, it was renumbered 9018 in August 1946. Allocated to Swindon by January 1948 and later Oxford, Machynlleth, Croes Newydd, Shrewsbury and Oswestry from where it was withdrawn on 17 June 1960 and cut up at Swindon Works in the week ending 8 October 1960. Lot 283 A GWR cabside numberplate, 4147, from a 5101 Class 2-6-2T built at Swindon in September 1946. Allocated to Tyseley by January 1948, its later sheds included Oxford, Kidderminster and Stourbridge, returning for a final three months to Tyseley from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 2 October 1965 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Great Bridge on 18 December 1965. Lot 285 A worksplate, PECKETT, 1964, 1940, from a Peckett type M5 0-4-0ST named CORDIE built in November 1939 and delivered new to Murgatroyd's Salt Co Ltd at Middlewich Works, Sandbach, Cheshire. The company became part of BP Chemicals (UK) Ltd and the loco moved to their Elworth Works. It was scrapped on site by J.& H. Coppenhall of Sandbach around March 1967. Lot 287 A smokebox numberplate, 76075, from a BR Standard Class 4 2-6-0 built at Horwich and allocated new to Sutton Oak on 14 December 1956. Its later sheds were Bescot, Stoke, Colwick and Springs Branch from where it was withdrawn on 5 October 1967 and despatched for scrap to J. Buttigieg at Newport on 5 March 1968. Lot 289 A shedplate, 5E Alsager (1935 to June 1962), then Nuneaton (September 1963 to June 1966). The ex NSR shed at Alsager had an allocation of around 18 locos towards the end of its life. Lot 291 A GWR cabside numberplate, 2854, from a 2800 Class 2-8-0 built at Swindon in February 1913. Converted to oil burning and renumbered 4801 in November 1946, it reverted to its original number when the oil burning apparatus was removed in February 1949. Allocated to Severn Tunnel Junction by January 1948 and later Leamington, Oxley, Shrewsbury and Gloucester, returning to Severn Tunnel Junction from where it was withdrawn on 3 October 1963 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Newport on 17 July 1964. Lot 293 A shedplate,60C Helmsdale (1949 to July 1961). This ex HR shed most famously housed two ex GWR pannier tanks, 1646 and 1649, for working the Dornoch branch. Only 3 other locos were allocated at this time. The front repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £820.

It became LNER J6 Class 3554 and was renumbered 4203 in 1946, becoming BR 64203. A long time Bradford Bowling Junction engine, it moved in 1958 to Low Moor and later Copley Hill and Ardsley from where it was withdrawn on 19 June 1962 and cut up at Doncaster Works. Lot 305 A worksplate HUDSWELL CLARKE DE1075, 1959, from a 400HP standard gauge 0-6-0 diesel-electric locomotive, built in association with Brush Electrical Engineering of Loughborough, who supplied the generator and electrical equipment. New to the Manchester Ship Canal as D4001 ALNWICK CASTLE, the first diesel locomotive the company purchased. Later passed into preservation and is currently out of use at Winfields Megastore, Haslingden, Lancashire. Cast brass, 12½"x8", the front lightly polished. £500-800 - Sold for £260.

Lot 307 A nameplate, CHALE, from a London & South Western Railway O2 Class 0-4-4T No 180 built at Nine Elms Works in April 1890. It retained its original number in SR days and was despatched to the Isle of Wight in May 1927 when it was renumbered W31 and named after a village on the Isle. Withdrawn on 19 March 1967, it was cut up on the Isle of Wight. The plate is accompanied by its BR(S) sales documents and two photographs of the loco. Lot 309 A worksplate, VULCAN, 4012, 1927, from a LMS Class 4P 4-4-0 No 1199 which became BR 41199. Its BR allocations were Kentish Town, Bedford, Wellingborough and Millhouses from where it was withdrawn in January 1958 and cut up at Derby Works. Lot 312 A headboard, THE ROYAL SCOT, as carried by the Euston to Glasgow (Central) express. The title was first used in July 1927 and, after suspension during the war years, re-introduced in February 1948. This style of headboard was introduced in about 1951. The train was usually hauled by a Princess Coronation class loco with an engine change at Carlisle. The train's last titled run, with modern traction, was on 1 June 2002. Cast aluminium, overall 33"x15½", in ex loco condition. £2000-2500 - Sold for £3100.

Lot 314 A worksplate AVONSIDE ENGINE, 1999, 1927, from a standard gauge 0-4-0ST named DAVID new to Staveley Coal & Iron Co. Ltd., Ireland Colliery, Staveley, Derbyshire. Passed to the NCB with the colliery on 1st January 1947 as part of the East Midlands Division. It later worked at a number of other locations in the area, ending up at Ramcroft Colliery, where it was scrapped around May 1967. Cast brass, 11"x6½", the front repainted. £200-350 - Sold for £480.

Passed with the colliery to the NCB on 1st January 1947. Latterly numbered 22, it spent the rest of its working life at Old Roundwood until scrapped between September 1965 and April 1966. Lot 320 A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 2551, REBUILT STRATFORD, 1935, from a LNER D16 Class 4-4-0 No 2551 originally built by the Great Eastern Railway at Stratford in November 1906 as a Class D15 No 1840 which became LNER 8840. It was rebuilt by the LNER at Stratford Works and re-classified as D16 Class in March 1935 and renumbered 2551 in 1946, becoming BR 62551. Allocated to Cambridge by January 1948, it alternated between there and Kings Lynn until moving in December 1953 to Spital Bridge from where it was withdrawn on 16 July 1956 and cut up at Stratford Works. Lot 325 A smokebox numberplate, 30792, from the SR N15 King Arthur Class 4-6-0 No 792 built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 23288, in October 1925 and named SIR HERVIS DE REVEL after one of King Pellinore's knights in Arthurian Legend. Allocated to Nine Elms by January 1948 and later Stewarts Lane and Eastleigh from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 14 February 1959 and cut up at Eastleigh Works in the week ending 21 March 1959. Lot 327 A London & North Western Railway cabside numberplate, 2426, CREWE, OCT 1917, from a LNWR Claughton Class 4-6-0 built at Crewe, Works No 5396, to Bowen Cooke's design in October 1917, one of the Class which never had a name bestowed upon it. It became LMS No 5959 and was withdrawn in June 1932. Cast iron, 32¾"x11½", repainted. This plate is featured in the book, LNWR Liveries by Talbot, Dow, Millard and Davis, pages 74 and 79. A copy of the book accompanies the lot, together with a copy of a letter written by the late H.B. (Basil) Spencer, the doyen of railwayana dealers, in 1969 containing details of his discovery and purchase of this plate. £1500-2500 - Sold for £4000.

Lot 328 A Midland Railway monogram and crown decoration from the company's royal saloon, No 1910, used by King George V. Brass on mahogany, overall 7¼"x5½". £150-300 - Sold for £380.

Lot 329 A worksplate, LMS BUILT 1943, GWR, from a Stanier type 8F 2-8-0 built to Railway Executive Committee order. Those built by the GWR at Swindon in 1943 were Nos 8400-26, which were loaned new to the GWR, taken into LMS stock in 1946-7 and became BR 48400-26. Cast brass, 10½"x6", the front repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £420.

Lot 330 A nameplate, SHANKLIN, from the London & South Western Railway O2 Class 0-4-4T No 211 built at Nine Elms Works in March 1892. It retained this number in SR days and was despatched to the Isle of Wight in May 1923 when it was renumbered W20 and named after the seaside town on the Isle. This replacement plate was fitted to the loco after its cast brass nameplates had been removed. The loco was withdrawn on 31 December 1966 and cut up by Jolliffe at Freshwater. Painted steel with fixings to the ends, overall 20½"x3½". The plate comes with the original BR(S) paperwork relating to its sale. £300-500 - Sold for £3200.

Lot 331 A GWR cabside numberplate, 3830, from a 2884 Class 2-8-0 built at Swindon in November 1940. A long time Ebbw Junction engine, it was withdrawn from there on 3 June 1965 and sold for scrap to George Cohen at Morriston on 28 July 1965. Lot 359 A worksplate, LMS BUILT 1883 St ROLLOX, from a Caledonian Railway 294 Class 0-6-0 No 350 which became LMS 17238 and BR 57238. Its BR sheds were Dumfries, Polmadie and Stranraer from where it was withdrawn on 12 September 1961 and sold for scrap to J.N. Connell at Coatbridge. Lot 365 A South African Railways cabside numberplate, 1717, from a 3ft 6ins gauge Class 14A 4-8-2 built by Robert Stephenson & Co, Works No 3559, in 1913. When a new boiler was fitted, it was re-classified as Class 14R, the A suffix being ground off the numberplate and replaced by an R, indicating it had been rebuilt. All were withdrawn by 1983. Lot 367 A nameplate, LOCH ARKAIG, from the Great Northern Railway Class H3, LNER K2 Class 2-6-0 No 1674 built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 21985, in July 1918. It became LNER 4674 and, following its transfer the Scotland, was named in March 1933 after the Loch in Inverness-shire. Renumbered 1764 in 1946, it became BR 61764. A long time Eastfield engine, it was a regular performer on West Highland line services. Withdrawn from Eastfield on 7 September 1961, it was cut up at Cowlairs Works in the five days ending 1 December 1961. Lot 368 A single line key token, BEWDLEY NORTH-CLEOBURY MORTIMER, (alloy) from the Bewdley to Tenbury Wells route closed in 1965. A minor casting fault affecting the last letter, original condition, with traces of yellow paint. £150-300 - Sold for £280.

Lot 369 A shedplate, 2A Rugby (1935 ﾖ September 1963). The ex LNWR shed at Rugby was home to around 100 locos in the 1950s. A handful of Patriots, Jubilees, Britannias and a solitary Princess Royal made up the 60 locos there during the 1960s, before it was recoded 1F. Allocated to York North by January 1948, it moved later that year to Selby and the following year to Darlington from where it was withdrawn on 21 June 1954 and cut up at Darlington Works. Lot 385 A shedplate, 12B Carlisle Upperby (1935 to June 1950), then Carlisle Canal (June 1950 to July 1951), then Penrith (October 1955 to February 1958), and finally Carlisle Upperby (February 1958 to January 1968). This code is probably best known for its use as Carlisle Upperby, the ex LNWR shed having around 90 locos at the height of its importance. The ex NBR shed at Canal had the distinction of having four A3s and five D49s carrying this LMR code among its 60 occupants. Out of use between 1951 and 1955, only six locos at Penrith carried 12B until Upperby regained it in 1958. LMS pattern, ex loco condition. £100-200 - Sold for £420.

Allocated to Didcot by January 1948, it spent most of its BR days at Llanelly before moving towards the end to Banbury, Severn Tunnel Junction and Barry from where it was withdrawn on 26 July 1963 and sold for scrap to Hayes at Bridgend in November 1964. Lot 431 A worksplate, BALDWIN, 72355, NOVEMBER 1945, from a SNCF coal burning Class 141R 2-8-2 No 141R.542 put into service in March 1946 on the Nord Region at Somain. Lot 434 A nameplate, WOOTTON HALL, from the GWR 4900 Hall Class 4-6-0 No 4979 built at Swindon in February 1930, the location of the actual Hall not stated in GWR records but there are Halls so named at Wootton Wawen in Warwickshire and Wootton Bassett in Wiltshire. Allocated to Cardiff Canton by January 1948 and later Southall, Didcot, Reading and Oxford from where it was withdrawn on 28 December 1963 and sold for scrap to Woodham Bros at Barry on 30 April 1964. Saved for preservation, it is now owned by the Furness Railway Trust and undergoing restoration at the Ribble Steam Railway. £4000-5000 - Sold for £3500.

Lot 438 A shedplate, 86E Severn Tunnel Junction (1948 to October 1965 for steam). This ex GWR shed was home to around 75 locos in the 1950s. Repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £240.

Lot 439 A Scottish North Eastern Railway oil can with a large embossed brass plate, EAST. HAVEN. S.N.E, PAR OIL. Easthaven Station was on the Dundee and Arbroath route and closed in 1967. Overall height 12", the plate 6"x3½", the can repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £300.

Lot 440 A GWR cabside numberplate, 8752, from a 8750 Class 0-6-0PT built at Swindon in October 1933. A long time Southall engine, it was withdrawn from there in the week ending 19 January 1963 and despatched for scrap to A. King at Norwich on 10 December 1963. Cast iron, in ex loco condition. £300-500 - Sold for £340.

Lot 441 A nameplate CADEIRLAN BANGOR CATHEDRAL from Class 47 47849. This Virgin style plate was carried from March 2000 when the loco was named at Bangor station. Withdrawn from Toton and cut up in May 2002 by CF Booth at Rotherham. Cast aluminium, length 81", in ex loco condition. £700-1000 - Sold for £900.

Lot 442 A worksplate, HUDSWELL CLARKE, D1210, 1961 from 0-6-0 shunter D2519. New to Crewe South in November 1961. Withdrawn from Crewe North in July 1967 and sold on to K&WVR for spares being finally cut up there by Marple & Gillott in April 1985. Cast brass, 12¾"x8¼", the front lightly cleaned. £500-800 - Sold for £1700.

Lot 443 A LMS lamp tablet, GREAT HARWOOD, from the Rose Grove to Blackburn loop; the station closed in 1957. Enamel, 20"x4½", edge and screw hole chips, some filled but unpainted. £150-300 - Sold for £100.

Lot 445 A shedplate, 70B Feltham (1950 to July 1967). This ex LSWR shed housed between 60 and 80 locos for most of its life; most notable being the ever present H16 4-6-2Ts. Ex loco condition. £150-300 - Sold for £170.

Lot 446 A worksplate, HUDSWELL CLARKE & Co, 1042, 1913, with its matching cabside numberplate, 58, from a standard gauge 0-6-0T named BORDEAUX supplied new to the Manchester Ship Canal where it spent all its working life. It was scrapped at the company's Mode Wheel Workshops in October 1967. The worksplate engraved brass, 13"x8¼", the front lightly polished, the numberplate, cast brass, 16"x9¼", the front repainted. Lot 447 A Webb and Thompson single line train staff, BALLYMAGARRETT-EAST B.J, a section on the Belfast and County Down Railway in East Belfast. £150-300 - Sold for £320.

Lot 448 A mid to late 19th century GNR 10 inch oak-cased roundhead fusee clock from Potts of Leeds and typical of that supplier. Overall height: 12½". Dial surround of standard sectional construction containing a replaced clip-in bezel. Box with two side doors and bottom door closed with a lock (no key), indistinct rubber stamp 3*26 to the rear. Dial written Potts & Sons Leeds with G. N. R. 648 in a later hand. Gut fusee movement held between plates with shaped shoulders and feet. Complete with pendulum, two winders, and documents detailing work done in 2006 and its sale (as number 648) to the station master at Hatton (LM Region, ex GWR) in 1966. The only record of GNR number 648 (LNER 11002) is an 8 inch clock from Walker (whose clocks were of a very different style) used at Caythorpe (south of Lincoln) and seems unlikely to be this clock. £500-800 - Sold for £320.

Lot 449 A shedplate, 65J Fort William (April 1955 to April 1960), then Stirling (April 1960 to June 1966). Fort William had an allocation of 17 locos during this time, including just one Loch and the famous MacCailin Mor. When Stirling adopted this code it had 30 locos, which had dwindled to just 9 Black Fives in its final year. The front repainted. £250-400 - Sold for £260.

Lot 450 A Isle of Man Railway teapot by Dunn Bennett of Burslem, excellent condition with a replacement lid contemporary with the pot. £100-200 - Sold for £150.

Lot 451 A GWR cabside numberplate, 6437, from a 6400 Class 0-6-0PT built at Swindon in April 1937. A long time Aberdare engine, it moved in April 1960 to Gloucester, first to the ex GWR shed and then to the ex LMS shed from where it was withdrawn on 2 July 1963 and cut up at Swindon Works in the week ending 24 August 1963. This auto fitted loco was used on Chalford services during its time at Gloucester. The face repainted. £400-600 - Sold for £540 to commission or postal bidder number 602.

Lot 456 A worksplate, LMS, BUILT 1929, HORWICH, from a LMS Class 4 2-6-0 No 13113 which was renumbered 2813 in 1934 and became BR 42813. Its BR sheds were Nuneaton, Crewe South, Saltley and Gorton from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 9 November 1963 and cut up at Horwich Works on 14 February 1964. Cast brass, 10½"x6", cleaned and the front repainted. £200-350 - Sold for £540.

Lot 463 A worksplate, LMS BUILT (1892) DERBY. Locos built by the Midland Railway at Derby in 1892 were (1) 1823 Class 0-4-4T, some of which survived into BR service numbered in the 580XX series; (2) 1102 Class 0-6-0T, some of which survived into BR service numbered in the 418XX series; and (3) 1873 Class 0-6-0, many of which survived into BR service numbered in the 43XXX and 582XX series. Lot 465 A GWR yard lamp with hexagonal body and milk glass roof. An unusual survivor, fully restored and converted to electric though retaining all its original fittings. Lot 466 A nameplate PRIDE IN HUDDERSFIELD from Class 47 47434.
