A nameplate, HEVENINGHAM HALL, from the (GWR) 6959 Modified Hall Class 4-6-0 No 7909 built at Swindon in January 1950 and named after the 18th Century Grade 1 manor house near Halesworth in Suffolk, which now hosts many major events. Allocated new to Exeter on 20 January 1950 and later Laira, Westbury, Newton Abbot, Taunton, Worcester and Oxford from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 13 November 1965 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Newport on 2 May 1966. An impressive example of a Hall nameplate with extended backplate to accommodate its long name. £6000-7000 |
