A GWR cabside numberplate, 2854, from a 2800 Class 2-8-0 built at Swindon in February 1913. Converted to oil burning and renumbered 4801 in November 1946, it reverted to its original number when the oil burning apparatus was removed in February 1949. Allocated to Severn Tunnel Junction by January 1948 and later Leamington, Oxley, Shrewsbury and Gloucester, returning to Severn Tunnel Junction from where it was withdrawn on 3 October 1963 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Newport on 17 July 1964. Cast brass. £500-800 |
