A nameplate, SHANKLIN, from the London & South Western Railway O2 Class 0-4-4T No 211 built at Nine Elms Works in March 1892. It retained this number in SR days and was despatched to the Isle of Wight in May 1923 when it was renumbered W20 and named after the seaside town on the Isle. This replacement plate was fitted to the loco after its cast brass nameplates had been removed. The loco was withdrawn on 31 December 1966 and cut up by Jolliffe at Freshwater. Painted steel with fixings to the ends, overall 20½"x3½". The plate comes with the original BR(S) paperwork relating to its sale. £300-500 |
