A smokebox numberplate, 31848, from a South Eastern & Chatham Railway N1 Class 2-6-0 No 848 assembled at Ashford in February 1925 from a complete set of parts made at Woolwich Arsenal except for the boiler, supplied by the North British Locomotive Co. It was renumbered A848 and SR 1848, becoming BR 31848. Allocated to Salisbury by January 1948, it spent most of its BR days at Ashford and Exmouth Junction from where it was withdrawn on 14 February 1964 and cut up immediately at Eastleigh Works. £500-600 |
