A nameplate, KNIGHT OF THE THISTLE, from the GWR 4000 Star Class 4-6-0 No 4012 built at Swindon in March 1908 and named after the British Order of Chivalry associated with Scotland. It spent its final days at Newton Abbot from where it was withdrawn on 21 October 1949 and cut up at Swindon Works in the four weeks ending 25 February 1950. An impressive plate, 83½" long, repainted a long time ago, and complete with its original sales paperwork. £15000-20000 |
