A nameplate, 603 SQUADRON, with its badge depicting Edinburgh Castle and the motto, GIN YE DAUR (if you dare), for the City of Edinburgh Auxiliary Squadron, from the (SR) Class BB Battle of Britain 4-6-2 No 34077 built at Brighton in July 1948 and rebuilt without its original streamlined casing in July 1960. Allocated new to Ramsgate on 10 July 1948, it moved to Stewarts Lane by January 1958 and later Nine Elms, Feltham and Eastleigh from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 25 March 1967 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Newport on 6 October 1967. A splendid set with arguably the finest of all the Squadron badges. Cast brass, 54¼", the front repainted. (See also next Lot) £20000-30000 |
