Lot 1 A Metropolitan and Great Central Joint Committee weighbridge notice, enamel, 24"x12", chipping to top left and right screw holes, wasting to top right hole, otherwise superb condition. £200-350 - Sold for £700.

Lot 2 A GWR signal lever plate, 44 BACK'G FROM DOWN BRANCH (SELECTED), engraved brass, length 18¾". £150-300 - Sold for £340.

Lot 3 A BR(Sc) quad royal poster, SCOTLAND FOR YOUR HOLIDAYS, by Terrance Cuneo, featuring the Forth Bridge with A4 Golden Plover crossing with an express. The poster has been laid down to conserve. £500-800 - Sold for £2100.

Lot 4 A BR(M) totem sign, BANK HALL, (f/f), from the Liverpool to Southport route. Edge chips and a few blemishes to the face. £350-500 - Sold for £500 to commission or postal bidder number 2827.

Lot 5 A GWR signal box nameboard, CORWEN EAST BOX, from the Ruabon to Barmouth route, which closed in 1964. Cast iron, length 53", the front repainted. £500-800 - Sold for £1000.

Lot 6 A GWR signal lever frame backplate from Corwen East Box, three sections, covering levers 1-23. Wordings include LNWR Home, Detonators, Backing and other LNWR references relating to the route to Denbigh. 121"x4". £250-400 - Sold for £400.

Lot 7 A Southern Railway target sign, AYLESFORD, from the Strood to Paddock Wood route. Edge chips, otherwise excellent condition with original backboard. A rare example, one sold thirty years ago. £400-600 - Sold for £700.

Lot 8 A single line key token, LOCH AWE-DALMALLY, (brass), from the Callander and Oban route. Loch Awe station closed in 1965, the signal box closed and the crossing loop was removed in 1966. A small section has been milled out of the key to prevent misuse. We have never seen another key from this section. £300-500 - Sold for £600 to commission or postal bidder number 7342.

Lot 9 A wagonplate, G. KYNOCH & CO LIMITED, GUNPOWDER MILLS, WORSBORO DALE, MS&L RY, 246, cast phosphor bronze, 11"x7", the front repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £200.

Lot 10 An LMS Tyers block instrument, the design widely used in Scotland, overall height 19". £150-300 - Sold for £180.

Lot 11 A GWR pre-grouping doorplate, WAITING ROOM 3RD CLASS, cast iron, 19"x8", original condition. £150-300 - Sold for £440.

Lot 12 A CLC hanging lamp, with a large brass plate, CHESHIRE LINES, SKELTON JC SHUNTERS CABIN 171, from the Stockport to Glazebrook route. The lamp is complete with brass burner, glass chimney and top heat deflector/shade. £150-300 - Sold for £440.

Lot 13 A builders plate, ATKINSON PATENT, FRENCHWOOD, PRESTON, No 481, from a 6 ton steam waggon built in 1925. The original owner is not known, but the vehicle was later with Shanks & McEwan Ltd of Motherwell. Cast brass, 8¾"x6", the front repainted red, the back retaining some original paintwork from the waggon, mounted on a wooden board together with an illustration of the waggon. £300-400 - Sold for £260.

Lot 14 A station direction sign, LMS STATION, KINGS NORTON, from the Midland main line south of Birmingham. Double sided enamel within aluminium frame, overall 20"x11", excellent condition. £250-400 - Sold for £600.

Lot 15 A worksplate, DUBS, 3535, 1897, from a London & South Western Railway 700 Class 0-6-0 No 712 built in June 1897, renumbered 350 in August 1898, retaining this number in SR days, becoming BR 30350. At Eastleigh by January 1948 it moved in 1953 to Guildford from where it was withdrawn during the week ending 24 March 1962 and cut up at Eastleigh Works. Cast brass, 13½"x5½", the front repainted. £350-500 - Sold for £440.

Lot 16 A Tyers combined signal repeater and light indicator with red distant arm, the original face marked Tyers Patent, a brass plate below, UP DISTANT. £100-200 - Sold for £840.

Lot 17 A Great Central and Midland Joint Railway trespass notice, cast iron, 20¾"x11¾, original condition. £300-500 - Sold for £380.

Lot 18 A Webb and Thompson large train staff, TIVERTON-CADELEIGH, from the Exe Valley route which closed in 1963. The staff is complete with its circular steel hoop, an addition rarely seen. £300-500 - Sold for £580 to commission or postal bidder number 228.

Lot 19 A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 2268, INVERURIE, 1910, from a Great North of Scotland Railway Class V 4-4-0 No 31 built at Inverurie in June 1910, becoming LNER D40 Class 6831, renumbered 2268 in 1946, becoming BR 62268. Withdrawn in July 1956 and scrapped. Cast brass, 9"x5", cleaned but unpainted. £300-500 - Sold for £1550 to commission or postal bidder number 1999.

Lot 20 A BR(S) signal box nameboard, BARNSTAPLE JUNCTION, from the Exeter to Ilfracombe and Torrington route. Enamel, 120"x12" (62" and 58" sections), a few minor face and edge chips. £250-400 - Sold for £800.

Lot 21 A smokebox numberplate, 8441, from a (GWR) 9400 Class 0-6-0PT built by Bagnall, Works No 2951, and allocated new to Cardiff East Dock on 8 April 1954. In December 1957 it moved to Cardiff Canton from where it was withdrawn on 5 December 1961 and sold for scrap to Cashmores at Newport on 27 March 1962. The front repainted. £200-300 - Sold for £320 to commission or postal bidder number 3022.

Lot 22 A Midland Railway pegging block instrument with brass plate, FROM WELLAND BRIDGE, a box at Spalding on the GN and GE Joint Line. Excellent restored condition. £150-300 - Sold for £160.

Lot 23 A plate from the Waterloo departure indicator, PADSTOW, the terminus of the North Cornwall Line. Enamel, length 17", minor edge chipping. £200-300 - Sold for £500 to commission or postal bidder number 1650.

Lot 24 A Linkenheimer 4" diameter whistle, complete with operating lever, mounted on a wooden stand, overall height 17½". £200-300 - Sold for £310.

Lot 25 A wagonplate, LANCASTER RAILWAY CARRIAGE & WAGON COMPANY LIMITED, LANCASTER, ENGLAND, removed from a Londonderry and Lough Swilly Railway coach. Cast iron, 11"x5", the front repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £400.

Lot 26 A single line key token, BORTH-ABERYSTWYTH, (alloy), the final section of the Cambrian Coast route. £100-200 - Sold for £160 to commission or postal bidder number 4520.

Lot 27 A BR(W) lamp tablet, TALGARTH, (h/f), from the Mid Wales route. The station was situated south of Three Cocks Junction and closed in 1962. Enamel, 20"x6", a minor chip top left. £250-400 - Sold for £1350.

Lot 28 A worksplate NORTH BRITISH LOCOMOTIVE Co, 27839, 1959, from an 0-4-0 shunter D2744. New to Dunfermline in April 1959; withdrawn from Leith Central in July 1967 and cut up at Shettleston by Argosy Salvage in November 1967. Cast brass, 13½"x5½", the front repainted. £350-500 - Sold for £760.

Lot 29 A BR(E) signal box diagram, LOWESTOFT CENTRAL, showing routes to Gorleston and toward Coke Ovens Junction. Original frame, 62½"x23½". £150-300 - Sold for £560 to commission or postal bidder number 2521.

Lot 30 A BR(Sc) totem sign, KEITH TOWN, (h/f), from the Keith to Elgin (via Dufftowm) route. Slight loss of shine. £400-600 - Sold for £1350.

Lot 31 A single line key token, ETTINGTON-KINETON, (alloy), from the western end of the Stratford-on-Avon and Midland Junction Railway which closed to passengers in 1952 and freight in 1966. £200-300 - Sold for £700.

Lot 32 A GWR 12" dial drop case wall clock with chisel base, used at Witham station on the West of England Main Line and acquired by the late Hugh Ballentyne after the closure of the station. The clock is complete with fusee movement, pendulum and key, ivorine numberplate, GWR 537, and cast brass bezel. The glass has been replaced, otherwise the clock is in original condition. £500-800 - Sold for £2700.

Lot 33 A dog's collecting box with brass plate, SOUTHERN RAILWAY SERVANTS ORPHANAGE, PLEASE HELP. Alloy body with leather straps and padding, 8"x6", complete with key and BR(S) tie-on label. £200-300 - Sold for £460 to commission or postal bidder number 2284.

Lot 34 A Great Central Railway coffee cup and saucer, each marked with the company coat of arms and Car No 1608 in a scroll below, an attractive blue and gold design by Copeland Spode, a hairline crack in the centre well of the saucer, invisible when covered by the cup. (2) £80-120 - Sold for £140.

Lot 35 A signal box nameboard, VULCAN BANK, from the Warrington to Earlstown route. Cast letters on wood, length 66½", original condition. £250-400 - Sold for £1200.

Lot 36 A smokebox numberplate, 34011, from the Southern Railway West Country Class Bulleid Light Pacific No 21C111 TAVISTOCK built at Brighton in October 1945, becoming BR 34011, one of the Class which was never rebuilt and retained its streamlined casing to the end. Allocated to Exmouth Junction by January 1948, it soon moved to Plymouth Friary and later Nine Elms and Exmouth Junction from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 9 November 1963 and cut up at Eastleigh Works in the week ending 11 April 1964. Ex loco condition, the Eastleigh triangle cast on the back, two weld repairs expertly undertaken. £1500-2000 - Sold for £2000.

Lot 37 A Caledonian Railway signal instrument plate, COUPAR-ANGUS, NORTH LOOP LINE, from the Perth to Forfar route which closed to passengers in 1967 and freight in 1982. Cast brass, engraved lettering, 5½"x2". £150-300 - Sold for £400.

Lot 38 A GWR weighbridge notice referring to steamrollers, enamel, 10"x14", a chip to the top left corner neatly restored. £150-300 - Sold for £380.

Lot 39 A worksplate, L.M.S, BUILT 1875, DERBY. Locos built by the Midland Railway at Derby in 1875 included 6 Class 0-4-4T Nos 1226-35 the last of which survived until 1935. At this time most MR locos were built by outside contractors. Cast brass, 10½"x6", in ex loco condition. £200-350 - Sold for £400 to commission or postal bidder number 8571.

Lot 40 A BR(E) totem sign, FELIXSTOWE TOWN, (h/f), a terminus station on the branch from Ipswich. Some face chipping restored. £400-600 - Sold for £1150 to commission or postal bidder number 3432.

Lot 41 A nameplate, FRANK BIBBY, from a GWR 3300 Bulldog Class 4-4-0 No 3416 built at Swindon in February 1903, named simply BIBBY when built but altered two months later to FRANK BIBBY, after the GWR Director 1897-1923, and renumbered 3364 under the GWR 1912 renumbering scheme. It was withdrawn from Westbury on 21 June 1949 and cut up at Swindon Works in the four weeks ending 8 October 1949. £4500-6000 - Sold for £2900.

Lot 42 A CLC small sliding knob handlamp, with brass plate, CHESHIRE LINES, AINTREE P.WAY, 20. The lamp is complete and in original condition, the vessel plated with the same wording as the lamp. The door catch and top hinge require repair. £200-350 - Sold for £420.

Lot 43 A wagonplate, DARLINGTON WAGON & ENGINEERING COY LTD, BUILDERS, cast iron, 7" diameter, the front repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £160.

Lot 44 A signal box nameboard, SEVERN BRIDGE, from the Berkeley Road to Lydney route the central section of which closed in 1960, after damage to the bridge. Cast letters on wood, length 109½", the front repainted. £300-500 - Sold for £1250.

Lot 45 A worksplate ALSTOM EWS 67-042 2000 from Class 67 67002. New to Toton in 2000; currently operating in Arriva Trains unbranded livery. A pair of cast aluminium plates, each 7"x3", mounted on a steel backplate, overall 16¾"x3½", ex loco condition. £300-500 - Sold for £160.

Lot 46 A nameplate MARS together with its matching worksplate HUDSWELL, CLARKE, 968, 1912, from a standard gauge 0-6-0T new to John Summers & Sons Ltd, Shotton Steelworks, Flint. Spent its whole life at Shotton until scrapped around 1960. (2) £600-900 - Sold for £880 to commission or postal bidder number 8979.

Lot 47 A South African Railways cabside numberplate, 3652, 24, from a 3ft 6ins gauge SAR Class 24 2-8-4 built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 26364, in 1949 for light branch line duties. Most were withdrawn during the 1980s. Cast brass, 20¾"x14½", the front repainted. £300-400 - Sold for £800.

Lot 48 A Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway trespass notice, cast iron, 37¾"x18½", in original condition, and complete with all four corners. £100-200 - Sold for £700.

Lot 49 A GWR signal box shelf plate, SOUTH MOLTON, from the Taunton to Barnstaple route which closed in 1966. Engraved brass, 4¾"x1½". £100-200 - Sold for £340.

Lot 50 A large signal box block bell, the case with base 24¾"x18", height 10", with 15" diameter brass bell and striker, overall height 23". £150-300 - Sold for £150 to commission or postal bidder number 8779.

Lot 51 An O gauge finescale, kitbuilt, 12 volt electric locomotive and tender, LNER 4-6-2 A3 WINDSOR LAD No 2500. Beautifully built and painted, pick-ups to right side wheels, very detailed throughout with superb backhead, cab details, oilers, brake gear, etc. A superb model in all respects, possibly painted by Larry Goddard, builder unknown, boxed. £400-600 - Sold for £620.

Lot 52 A fingerboard, ALL STATIONS TO LAPWORTH, EXCEPT WIDNEY MANOR, used on stopping trains from Moor Street or Snow Hill. Painted wood, length 49", original condition. £150-300 - Sold for £110.

Lot 53 A Great Eastern Railway three aspect sliding knob handlamp, the top stamped GER RYBURGH, a station on the Wymondham to Fakenham route which closed in 1964. The body is stamped AA inside the door, LNER-E vessel, the lamp repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £80.

Lot 54 A Tyers No 6 single line tablet, DAVA - GRANTOWN-ON-SPEY, (brass), from the Aviemore to Forres route which closed in 1965, the original route to Inverness via Dava Summit, 1052 feet above sea level. £200-350 - Sold for £150.

Lot 55 A shedplate 89C Machynlleth (1948 to September 1963). This ex Cambrian Railways shed was home to 50 locos in the 1950s. Recoded 6F in 1963, it closed in December 1966. Ex loco condition. £100-200 - Sold for £320 to commission or postal bidder number 8093.

Lot 56 A BR(S) totem sign, ADISHAM, (f/f), from the Canterbury East to Dover route. Some face chipping restored. £250-400 - Sold for £430 to commission or postal bidder number 4934.

Lot 57 A smokebox numberplate, 5614, from a GWR 5600 Class 0-6-2T built at Swindon in February 1925. It spent most of its BR days at Barry before moving in 1961 to Worcester and then Abercynon from where it was withdrawn on 29 August 1963 and sold for scrap to George Cohen at Morriston on 1 January 1964. The front repainted, a weld repair to the right side, the number 4679 painted on the back. £200-300 - Sold for £300 to commission or postal bidder number 3022.

Lot 58 A Webb and Thompson large train staff, CLONMEL JUNCTION-FETHARD, from the Waterford, Limerick and Western route from Waterford to Thurles. £200-350 - Sold for £210 to commission or postal bidder number 486.

Lot 59 A signal box nameboard, CROMER YARD BOX, from the Midland and Great Northern Joint Melton Constable to Cromer route. Cast letters on wood, length 73½", the front repainted. £200-350 - Sold for £600 to commission or postal bidder number 3426.

Lot 60 A worksplate, CANADIAN LOCOMOTIVE CO, KINGSTON, ONT, 2209, 1945, from a Pakistan Railways CWD Class 2-8-2 No 5114. Cast iron, 11¼"x5¼", repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £1100.

Lot 61 A GWR signal box shelf plate, FROM BLACK PARK & BRYNKINALT SIDINGS, a box near Chirk on the Shrewsbury to Chester route. Engraved brass, 4¾"x1½". £100-200 - Sold for £440.

Lot 62 An LNWR meat dish, LONDON & N.W. RY CO REFRESHMENT ROOMS, RUGBY, china, 18½"x14". £50-80 - Sold for £110.

Lot 63 An owners plate, THE EDDISON STEAM ROLLING CO LTD DORCHESTER, as carried by one of the company's rollers. Cast brass, 16½"x6¼", original condition. £100-200 - Sold for £460.

Lot 64 A signal box nameboard, NEW ENGLAND EAST CABIN A, from the yard and loco shed complex at Peterborough. Cast letters on wood, the name 66"x16½", the letter "A" 29"x22", the front repainted. The letter "A" is secured by two brackets easily unscrewed for transportation. £200-350 - Sold for £360.

Lot 65 An LNWR three aspect handlamp with steel plate, LMS CHC DEPT WILLESDEN, the body and top both stamped L&NWR, the burner BR(M) WOL. The lamp has been repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £220.

Lot 66 A nameplate, GREAT CENTRAL, from the Peppercorn A1 Class 4-6-2 No 60156 built at Doncaster, Works No 2050, in October 1949 and named in July 1962, one of five A1s named after LNER constituent companies. Allocated new to Kings Cross on 19 October 1949 and later Grantham, Doncaster and York from where it was withdrawn on 10 May 1965 and sold for scrap to Clayton Davie at Gateshead. The nameplate incorporates the GCR hand painted coat of arms in untouched ex loco condition. Cast brass, 49½"x21". £30000-40000 - Sold for £28500.00.

Lot 67 A London and North Western Railway notice, PUBLIC TELEPHONE CALL BOX, UNDER L&NWR CONTROL, enamel, 36"x12", edge chipping in places. £150-300 - Sold for £290.

Lot 68 A Southern Railway or constituent locomotive whistle, 3¾" diameter, with large knob on top, overall height 16", ex loco condition. £150-300 - Sold for £300 to commission or postal bidder number 4144.

Lot 69 A GWR cabside numberplate, 1991, from a 850 Class 0-6-0 tank loco built at Wolverhampton, Works No 533, in 1891, as a saddle tank and rebuilt as a pannier tank in July 1927. It finished its days at Llanelly from where it was withdrawn on 26 January 1953 and cut up at Swindon Works in the four weeks ending 16 July 1955. Cast brass, in ex loco condition. £500-800 - Sold for £1650.

Lot 70 A BR(E) station sign, THIS PLATFORM FOR CAMBRIDGE - OVER CROSSING FOR ELY, KINGS LYNN, MARCH AND NORWICH, probably from Waterbeach station. Enamel, 39"x30", three face chips and a little edge chipping. £250-400 - Sold for £740.

Lot 71 A worksplate, BEYER PEACOCK, 7303, 1949, from a Kenya-Uganda Railways 4-8-4+4-8-4 Garratt No 102 which became East African Railways Class 59 No 5814. The Class have all been scrapped. Cast brass, 10½"x6¼", in ex loco condition. £150-300 - Sold for £360.

Lot 72 A Southern Railway signal box plunger, with brass ring, CRYSTAL PALACE EAST. £100-200 - Sold for £160.

Lot 73 A signal box diagram, HOLLINWOOD GROUND FRAME, LYR, 1913, showing lines to Failsworth and Hollinwood on the Manchester Victoria to Oldham route. Original frame, overall 33"x18". £100-200 - Sold for £300 to commission or postal bidder number 1196.

Lot 74 An LMS winged roundel from the front of a station that was rebuilt in the 1930s. Cast aluminium, 30½" diameter, overall length 60½". £400-600 - Sold for £350.

Lot 75 A French cabside numberplate, S.N.C.F, 141.R.499, from a standard gauge Class 141.R 2-8-2 built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works, Works No 72312, one of 260 of the Class built by Baldwin between July 1945 and May 1946. Cast brass, 22"x14½", the front repainted. £200-350 - Sold for £440 to commission or postal bidder number 4815.

Lot 76 A BR(S) totem sign, BARNES, (h/f), from the Clapham Junction to Richmond route. Excellent condition. £300-500 - Sold for £780.

Lot 77 A GWR cabside numberplate, 4125, from a 5101 Class 2-6-2T built at Swindon in May 1938. A long time Birkenhead engine, its later sheds included Oxford, Leamington and Tyseley from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 19 June 1965 and sold for scrap to Hayes at Bridgend on 28 July 1965. Cast iron, in ex loco condition. £300-400 - Sold for £500.

Lot 78 A GWR safety valve bonnet from a pannier tank, top diameter 16½", the base 25½". £300-500 - Sold for £580.

Lot 79 A Tyers No 6 single line tablet, DINGWALL-MUIR OF ORD, (alloy), from the Far North Line, the word "South" removed from the tablet after signalling at Dingwall was rationalised. £200-350 - Sold for £150.

Lot 80 A Caledonian Railway trespass notice dated 1898, double sided within a wooden frame, one side exceptionally good with just two tiny chips restored, the other side still good but with a few small chips. Enamel, 18½"x24". £150-300 - Sold for £400.

Lot 81 A smokebox numberplate, 44051, from a LMS Class 4F 0-6-0 No 4051 built at Derby in 1925, becoming BR 44051. A long time Cricklewood engine, it finished its days with brief stays at Kettering, Toton, Nottingham and Coalville from where it was withdrawn in December 1964 and sold for scrap to Cashmores at Great Bridge. The front repainted. £250-400 - Sold for £480.

Lot 82 A signal box nameboard, RHYL No 2, from the North Wales Coast route. Cast letters on wood, length 49½", the front repainted. £200-350 - Sold for £400 to commission or postal bidder number 8783.

Lot 83 A nameplate, EDGEHILL, from a standard gauge 335hp 4wDH built by Thomas Hill (Rotherham) Ltd of Kilnhurst, their Steelman Royale type, Works No V321, in 1987 for the Ministry of Defence, MOD No 273. It went new to the Central Ammunition Depot at Kineton, Warwickshire on 17 December 1987 and was named after a local landmark. Following withdrawal it is believed to have gone to the Central Ordnance Depot, Bicester, Oxfordshire for disposal. Cast brass, 25"x5½", in ex loco condition. £300-500 - Sold for £700.

Lot 84 A BR(S) totem sign, MITCHAM JUNCTION, (f/f) from the Wimbledon to West Croydon route. Excellent condition. £300-500 - Sold for £520 to commission or postal bidder number 1650.

Lot 85 A group of GWR signal lever plates, 5, DOWN LOOP, 7", 17, DOWN SIDING SAFETY, 6¼", 20, DOWN MAIN SAFETY FACING, 5½", 45, UP MAIN - GOODS RUNNING LOOP, 6¾". All engraved brass. (4) £150-300 - Sold for £400.

Lot 86 A GWR intermediate token instrument, with cast iron body and base, steel cover, original condition. £150-300 - Sold for £720 to commission or postal bidder number 8826.

Lot 87 A North Eastern Railway cash bag with brass plate, N.E.R, BRIDLINGTON STATION REFRESHMENT ROOMS, from the Hull to Scarborough route. £100-200 - Sold for £240 to commission or postal bidder number 2257.

Lot 88 A shedplate, 71G Bath Green Park (1948 to February 1958) then Weymouth (February 1958 to September 1963). The ex S&D shed in Bath was home to over 50 locos including the famous S&D 2-8-0s. Transferred to the WR, becoming 82F, it exchanged codes with ex GWR Weymouth shed, whose 20 GWR locos now sported the SR code! In September 1963 the depot received SR locos and was recoded 70G. The back repainted and marked with the Eastleigh triangle. £250-400 - Sold for £400.

Lot 89 A GWR double royal poster, HISTORIC, ROMANTIC, EXETER, showing the Guild Hall. Framed, glazed and ready to hang on your wall. £200-350 - Sold for £80.

Lot 90 A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 4851, DARLINGTON, 1934, from a LNER J39 Class 0-6-0 No 1468 built in March 1934. Renumbered 4851 in 1946, it became BR 64851. Allocated to Darlington by January 1948 and later Gateshead, Tyne Dock and Sunderland from where it was withdrawn on 3 December 1962 and cut up at Darlington Works. Cast brass, 9"x5", the front repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £210.

Lot 103 A BR(S) totem sign, FOLKESTONE EAST, (f/f). The station was situated on the Dover side of Folkestone Central and was formerly called Folkestone Junction. Lot 106 A smokebox numberplate, 92039, from a BR Standard Class 9F 2-10-0 built at Crewe and allocated new to New England in December 1954. Its later sheds were Immingham, Doncaster, Colwick and Langwith Junction from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 17 October 1965 and sold for scrap to T.W. Ward at Killamarsh but actually cut up by Arnott Young at Parkgate in February 1966. Repainted. £350-500 - Sold for £720.

Lot 107 A carriage print, HARROGATE, YORKSHIRE, by Cyril H. Barraud, a rather special item from the artist's studio sale. The etching was produced in 1936 for the LNER original series but was never used, remaining in the artist's estate. £400-500 - Sold for £600.

Allocated to Feltham by January 1948 and later Nine Elms and Guildford from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 19 May 1962 and cut up at Ashford Works in the week ending 30 June 1962. Allocated to Swansea East Dock by January 1948 and later Landore, Llanelly, Ebbw Junction and Severn Tunnel Junction from where it was withdrawn on 6 May 1964 and sold for scrap to George Cohen at Morriston on 22 June 1964. Lot 116 A worksplate, GREAT NORTHERN RAILWAY, DONCASTER, No 1519, 1921, from a GNR/LNER N2 Class 0-6-2 No 4607 built in April 1921, renumbered 9491 in 1946, becoming BR 69491. A long time Kings Cross engine, it was withdrawn from there on 26 January 1959 and cut up at Doncaster Works. Fully engraved brass, 12"x7½", lightly polished, the back stamped 4607. £400-600 - Sold for £1050 to commission or postal bidder number 1645.

Lot 117 A Dundalk, Newry and Greenore Railway (LNWR) staff and ticket box with large cast brass plate, GREENORE-CARLINGFORD, on top. The railway, on the east coast of Ireland, was owned by the London and North Western Railway before passing to the LMS. It closed in 1951. £250-400 - Sold for £540.

Lot 129 A worksplate, BEYER PEACOCK, 7769, 1956, BUILT UNDER SUB-CONTRACT BY N.B.L. GLASGOW, from a South African Railways 3ft 6ins gauge GMAM Class 4-8-2+2-8-4 Garratt No 4103 built under sub-contract by the North British Locomotive Co, who allocated their own Works No 27695. The class were built for main line service, as indicated by the second M on the plate, and were the last class of Garratt in regular use on the SAR until withdrawal in 1984. Lot 133 A nameplate, KING GEORGE, from the GWR 4000 Star Class 4-6-0 No 4023 built at Swindon in June 1909, one of a group of Stars named after Kings of England in reverse order. When the 6000 King Class was introduced in 1927, the King names were removed from the Stars which were renamed after various monarchs, No 4023 becoming (THE) DANISH MONARCH but losing its nameplates in November 1940. It was withdrawn from Landore on 12 July 1952 and cut up at Swindon Works in the four weeks ending 4 October 1952. The nameplate is attractively restored and displays the early style of mounting used by the GWR, with keyways to the holes and fixings between the letters. The top beading is pin marked 'R', indicating right-hand side. £8000-10000 - Sold for £8000.

A long time Bricklayers Arms engine, it moved at the very end to Feltham and then Eastleigh from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 22 December 1962 and cut up at Eastleigh Works in the week ending 9 February 1963. Lot 161 A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 5177, GORTON 1901, from a Great Central Railway Class 9J 0-6-0 No 177 which became LNER J11 Class 5177 and was renumbered 4354 in 1946, becoming BR 64354. Allocated to Annesley by January 1948, it moved in 1957 to Colwick and later Tuxford, Langwith Junction, Staveley GC and Retford GC from where it was withdrawn on 21 October 1962 and subsequently scrapped. Cast iron, 9"x5", the front repainted. £400-500 - Sold for £620.

Lot 162 A shedplate, 88D Merthyr (1949 to November 1964), then Rhymney (November 1964 to April 1965). The ex GWR shed at Merthyr had 55 locos in the 1950s. The ex RR shed at Rhymney had an allocation of 19 56xx 0-6-2T during its short time as a coded depot. Ex loco condition. £100-200 - Sold for £210.

Lot 163 A 3½" gauge live steam model, ‘Dunalastair III’ 4-4-0 locomotive and eight wheeled tender in Caledonian livery, lined white/black with many brass details. Entirely scratchbuilt by Mr William Phelps of Treherbert - using the found materials of steel, copper and brass. Oil fired watertube boiler with twin inside cylinders, substantial brass eccentrics and connecting rods driving cast brass wheels, detailed backhead and cab with operating doors and other refinements. The coal tender with working brakes, water tank and hand pump, separate, removable oil tank in its own fitted rear compartment, both have brass feed tubes atop tender. This is a superb model that is in need of some work if operation is required, loco burner is missing, fuel and water connections are partly missing, as is the smokebox door handle and lock wheel, lock shaft is there. The model comes with a fair amount of original paperwork, posters and photographs describing the build, exhibiting and exploits of Mr & Mrs Phelps. This loco was part of an extensive, fully equipped working model colliery, with pit-head gear with electric winding engine, associated buildings and other foundry shops, all working and electrically lit, constructed by Mr Phelps (who was employed by the Great Western Railway Company) over a fifteen to twenty year period. Other model locomotives were built to operate on this large model which was 17 ft. by 7ft.6”, they were electrically operated also. The whole model colliery, with miners’ vil £3000-5000 - Sold for £3000.

Lot 164 A carriage board, PORTLAND, used on the steam railmotor which operated on the GWR and LSWR Joint branch from Weymouth which closed to passengers in 1952. Painted wood with shaded gilt/yellow lettering, length 48", with base fixings, in original condition. £500-800 - Sold for £580 to commission or postal bidder number 608.

Lot 165 A Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith Railway bridgeplate, C.K.&P.R, 1, cast iron, 12"x7¾", original condition. £150-300 - Sold for £1550.

Lot 166 A nameplate, THE LEICESTERSHIRE REGIMENT, from the LMS Class 7P Patriot 4-6-0 No 5987 built at Crewe in 1932, renumbered 5503 in 1934, becoming BR 45503. Named on 8 July 1938 by Brigadier General B.C. Dent at a ceremony held at Leicester London Road station, it was renamed without ceremony on 3 November 1948 as The Royal Leicestershire Regiment, using the original regimental badges. Allocated to sheds as far afield as Willesden and Carlisle, it was finally withdrawn from Upperby in August 1961 and taken to Crewe Works where cutting up was completed by the end of September. 52½" long, the front repainted. The nameplate is displayed with a replica badge in cast brass. £8000-10000 - This lot did not sell at the auction. Lot 168 A (GWR) cabside numberplate, 8430, from a 9400 Class 0-6-0PT built by Bagnall, Works No 2940, in January 1953. Allocated new on 8 January 1953 to Reading where it spent all its working life. Withdrawn in the week ending 27 April 1963, it was taken for scrap by Cashmores at Newport on 9 January 1964. Cast brass, the front repainted. £350-500 - Sold for £380.

Lot 170 A GWR cabside numberplate, 7802, from the 7800 Manor Class 4-6-0 BRADLEY MANOR built at Swindon in January 1938 and named after the 13th Century National Trust property near Newton Abbot. It spent most of its working life at Machynlleth on Cambrian lines duties with brief spells at Tyseley and Shrewsbury from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 6 November 1965 and sold for scrap to Woodham Bros at Barry on 16 December 1965. Lot 173 A single line key token, FOUR CROSSES-POOL QUAY, (cast steel/metal plate), from the Oswestry to Welshpool route which closed in 1965. £150-300 - Sold for £160.

Lot 174 A shedplate, 65A Eastfield (1948 to November 1966 for steam). This ex NBR shed housed a star studded allocation of 170 locos in the early 1950s. Of note were K1, K2, and K4 2-6-0s, along with D11 and D34 4-4-0s. By 1965, however the total number of steam locos was down to single figures. Many of Eastfields diesel locos also carried this style of code well in to the 1970s. The front repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £80.

It was renumbered 1637 in 1946 and became BR 61637. Allocated to Cambridge by January 1948 and later Norwich with a final six years at Ipswich from where it was withdrawn on 24 September 1959 and cut up at Doncaster Works. A long time Edge Hill engine, it moved late on to Llandudno Junction, Holyhead, Willesden, Carlisle Upperby and Carlisle Kingmoor from where it was withdrawn in December 1964 and cut up at West of Scotland Shipbreaking Co at Troon between February and April 1965. Lot 188 A Cambrian Railway carriage window decorated with the company's coat of arms, complete with original wooden window frame, overall 20½"x30". £200-350 - Sold for £820.

Lot 189 A nameplate, SHOTOVER, from the LNER A1 Class 4-6-2 No 2580, built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 23118, in November 1924 and named after the racehorse which won the 1882 Derby and 2000 Guineas. It was rebuilt and re-classified to A3 Class in February 1928, renumbered 81 in 1946, becoming BR 60081. It was allocated new to Heaton, then went on loan to Haymarket, and its later sheds were Gateshead, Heaton again, Neville Hill, York, Gateshead again and finally back to Neville Hill where it spent its final thirteen years up to withdrawal on 1 October 1962. It was cut up at Doncaster Works. The loco achieved fame when, on 1 May 1928, it hauled the inaugural south-bound non-stop running of the Flying Scotsman departing from Edinburgh Waverley at 10 a.m. with Flying Scotsman itself hauling the north-bound train. Cast brass, 56½", the base clearly stamped 2580. £10000-12000 - Sold for £6500.

Lot 206 A GWR cabside numberplate, 3646, from a 8750 Class 0-6-0PT built at Swindon in November 1939. Allocated to Old Oak Common by January 1948, it moved the following year to Tyseley and in 1955 to Banbury, returning in 1961 to Old Oak Common from where it was withdrawn on 8 June 1964 and cut up at Swindon Works in the four weeks ending 8 August 1964. Lot 210 A shedplate, 1D, Devons Road Bow (1949 to August 1958 for steam, total closure October 1964). This ex NLR shed had an allocation of 50 in 1950. Lot 215 A smokebox numberplate, 90439, from a War Department Austerity 2-8-0 built by Vulcan Foundry, Works No 5012, in March 1944 to Ministry of Supply order, WD No 77496. Following loans to the SR, GWR and LNER, it was purchased by the LNER becoming their O7 Class 3118, later BR 63118 and 90439 in 1951. A long time New England engine, it finished its days at Frodingham from where it was withdrawn in November 1965 and sold for scrap to W. George, Station Steel, Wath. Acquired by the Great Western Society in August 1971 and restored, it is currently awaiting heavy repairs at Didcot, having reached the end of its ten year boiler certificate. Lot 266 A ships bell, ROULERS, HARWICH, from a Great Eastern Railway steam ship built in 1894 by Earles of Hull and named SS VIENNA. She worked the Harwich to Hook of Holland route and later Antwerp services. In 1920 she was transferred to the Harwich to Zeebrugge route and renamed ROULERS after the Belgian town situated twenty miles south of Bruges. She passed to the LNER in 1923 and was scrapped in 1930. Cast brass, 9" diameter, with a substantial brass stand, probably original, mounted on a wooden base. Lot 299 A nameplate, KING'S OWN, from the LMS Royal Scot Class 7P 4-6-0 built at Derby and named in September 1930 with the nameplates prefixed by THE, renamed in June 1931 with the correct title of the Lancashire based regiment, both namings without ceremony. Allocated new to Longsight on 8 September 1930, it soon moved to Holyhead and its later sheds included Crewe North, Longsight, Preston and Holbeck from where it was withdrawn on 26 November 1962 and cut up at Crewe Works by 13 December 1963. Lot 332 A shedplate, 82F Weymouth (1949 to February 1958), then Bath Green Park (February 1958 to March 1966). The ex GWR shed at Weymouth had 30 locos during this period including a Saint, a Castle and 9 Halls. It then swopped regions and codes with the ex MR and S&DJR joint shed at Bath Green Park, which had 50 locos during this period. Weymouth was again recoded in September 1963 to 70G and closed to steam in July 1967. The joint shed at Bath was noted for its S&DJR 2-8-0s and the diminutive Sentinel 0-4-0T 47191. Lot 338 A worksplate, NORTH BRITISH LOCOMOTIVE Coy, HYDE PARK WORKS, 24714, 1941, from a Stanier type 2-8-0 built for the War Department to Ministry of Supply order, WD No 506. Sent new to Persia as Iran State Railways No 41.216 and in 1944 to Egypt, becoming WD 70584. On returning to the UK in May 1948, it became Class 8F 48263 and was allocated to Crewe South and later Stafford, Nuneaton and Agecroft from where it was withdrawn on 27 August 1966 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Great Bridge on 30 January 1967. Cast brass, 7¾" diameter, lightly cleaned but unpainted. £150-300 - Sold for £270.

Lot 340 A shedplate, 63A Perth (1949 to May 1967). This extensive ex CR shed known as Perth South was home to 140 locos in the early 1950s. By 1965 this was reduced to just 30. Visitors to the depot at this time would marvel at the sight of several A4s either being serviced or in temporary store. The front repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £160.

Lot 342 A worksplate, LONDON NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, DONCASTER, No 2024, 1948, from the Peppercorn A2 Class 4-6-2 No 60533 HAPPY KNIGHT named after the racehorse owned by Sir W. Cooke which won the 1946 2000 Guineas. Always a Southern Section engine, it was allocated new in April 1948 to New England, soon moved to Copley Hill but returned to New England where it spent about half its working life in several spells but was also at Grantham, Kings Cross and Doncaster. Withdrawn from New England in June 1963, it was cut up the following November at Doncaster Works. Fully engraved brass, 13"x7¾", in ex loco condition with traces of green paint to the rim, the back stamped 533 in two places. £2500-3000 - Sold for £3000 to commission or postal bidder number 1030.

Lot 345 A smokebox numberplate, 63717, from a 2-8-0 built to Ministry of Munitions order for the Railway Operating Division of the Royal Engineers to Robinson's Great Central Railway design by Robert Stephenson & Co, Works No 3745, in March 1919, ROD No 1697. Loaned to the GWR in July 1919, their No 3021, it was returned to the ROD in February 1922 and stored at Beachley. Acquired by the LNER in December 1923, it became their O4 Class 6314, renumbered 3717 in 1846, becoming BR 63717. Allocated to Mexborough by January 1948, it moved in 1950 to Langwith Junction from where it was withdrawn on 4 April 1965 and taken for scrap to Cashmores at Great Bridge on 22 July 1965. Lot 346 A worksplate, HUDSWELL CLARKE, 822, 1912. From a standard gauge 0-6-0ST new to Manvers Main Collieries Ltd, Wath upon Dearne as their number 6. Passed to the NCB with the colliery in 1947 and renumbered 22. Loaned to Barnburgh Colliery in the late 1940s but later returned to Manvers Main where it remained at work until scrapped in August 1966. Lot 348 A worksplate, LMS BUILT 1945 DERBY, from a LMS Class 4 2-6-4T No 2688 which became BR 42688. Allocated new to Ardrossan and later Polmadie, Corkerhill and Greenock Ladyburn before moving to Beattock in January 1965 where it was used as one of the regular Shap banking locos for more than ten years. Lot 351 A combined name and number plate, ORION, 3330, GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY, SWINDON WORKS, 1758, from a GWR 3300 Bulldog Class 4-4-0 built at Swindon, Works No 1753, in February 1900 and named after the mythological hunter. Numbered 3342 when built, it was renumbered 3330 under the 1912 renumbering scheme. Withdrawn in August 1938 and cut up at Swindon Works. Cast brass, 26½"18½", the front repainted. The oval renumbering plate in the centre was missing when sold by Swindon in the 1930s. A quality copy has been added to the correct dimensions, so a fine original nameplate with reproduction renumbering plate added. £5000-6000 - Sold for £6600.

It was placed in store until purchased by BR in December 1949 when it was allocated to Farnley Junction and later Mirfield, Low Moor, Wakefield and Normanton from where it was withdrawn on 22 September 1967 and sold for scrap to Arnott Young at Parkgate and Rawmarsh. Lot 364 A worksplate, (LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY), 1566, DONCASTER, 1923, from the LNER A1 Class 4-6-2 No 4474 built in March 1923 and named VICTOR WILD after the racehorse owned by Mr T Wharton which won the 1896 Kempton Park Jubilee Handicap. It was rebuilt and re-classified as A3 Class in October 1942, renumbered 105 in 1946 and became BR 60105. Always a Southern Section engine, it was allocated new to Kings Cross and later Doncaster, Gorton and Leicester before returning to Kings Cross in 1942, moving in September 1951 to Grantham from where it was withdrawn in June 1963 and cut up at Doncaster Works. Engraved brass, 13¼"x7½", the front lightly polished, the back stamped 4474 and 105. Lot 368 A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 7805, REBUILT STRATFORD, 1907 from a Great Eastern Railway Class T26 2-4-0 No 496 built at Stratford in January 1895 and reboilered in 1907, which constituted the rebuilding referred to on this plate, becoming LNER Class E4 No 7496 in 1924. In 1942 it was intended to renumber the 18 surviving E4s as 7791-7808 in numerical order to clear blocks of numbers for new B1 4-6-0's. Only five of these were actually renumbered, but this included No 7496 duly renumbered 7805 in December 1942. It was subsequently renumbered 2788 in 1946 and became BR 62788. Withdrawn March 1958. Lot 422 A smokebox numberplate, 53805, from a Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway 2-8-0 No 85 built by the Midland Railway at Derby, Order No 4209, in August 1914. After the S&D's locos were absorbed into LMS stock in January 1930, it became LMS No 9675 and was renumbered 13805 in 1932, becoming BR 53805. Always a Bath engine, it was withdrawn from there on 21 March 1961 and cut up at Crewe Works by 21 April 1961. Repainted. Allocated to Reading by January 1948, it moved in 1955 to Swindon and later Bristol Bath Road, Oxford, Old Oak Common and Southall from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 25 September 1965 and despatched for scrap to Birds Commercial Motors at Risca on 30 November 1965. Lot 431 A nameplate, ROEDEER, from a LNER B1 Class 4-6-0 No 1040 built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 25796, in April 1946 and named after a type of antelope found mainly in the north of Scotland, the only member of the class named after a British species. Allocated new to Norwich, it moved in 1951 to Darlington and later York, Low Moor, Mirfield and Wakefield from where it was withdrawn in July 1966 and cut up by Kings at Norwich. Cast brass, length 42". £6000-8000 - Sold for £6250.

Lot 432 A Southern Railway ships bell, FALAISE, from the train ferry steamer built by Dennys of Dumbarton in 1946 for the cross Channel ferry services. She was converted to a car ferry in 1964 and transferred to the Newhaven to Dieppe route. Scrapped in 1974. Cast brass, 9½" diameter. £300-500 - Sold for £460.

Lot 442 A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 8144, REBUILT STRATFORD 1937, from a Great Eastern Railway T77 Class 0-6-0 No 1144 built in October 1916, which became LNER J19 Class No 8144. It was rebuilt with a larger boiler in June 1937 and re-classified as J19/2, renumbered 4654 in 1946, becoming BR 64654. A long time Cambridge engine, it was withdrawn from there in January 1960 and cut up at Stratford Works. Cast brass, 9"x5", the front repainted. £300-400 - Sold for £150.

Lot 444 A nameplate REMUS together with its matching worksplate, HUDSWELL, CLARKE, 1399, 1920, from a standard gauge 0-4-0ST new to John Summers & Sons Ltd, Shotton Steelworks, Flint. Sold in 1948 to Wolverhampton Corrugated Iron Co. Ltd, Ellesmere Port, Cheshire. Sold again in April 1954 to Cudworth & Johnson Ltd, locomotive dealers and hirers of Wrexham and immediately sent on hire to Rea Ltd, Duke Street Wharf, Birkenhead. It was later hired to various other shunting contractors in the Birkenhead dock area until withdrawn in August 1965 and scrapped in April 1966. (2) £600-800 - Sold for £620.

Lot 445 A Great Central Railway Appletons Patent three aspect handlamp with brass plate, GCR, CONNAHS QUAY, 13692, and Appletons brass plate, restored and complete with its GCR vessel. £250-400 - Sold for £460.

Lot 446 A shedplate, 75C, Norwood Junction (1950 to June 1964 to steam, small allocation of diesel shunters until closure in 1966). In early BR days this ex SR shed had 40 locos, which was reduced to 18 in its final year. A small fleet of diesel shunters also carried this code; 3 03s, 15 08s and 3 of their SR forerunners. The BR(S) Eastleigh triangle cast on the back, ex loco condition. £150-300 - Sold for £150.

Lot 447 A small GWR notice board with enamel header, GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY PROVIDENT SOCIETY, the plate 13½"x4", overall 15½"x21", all in excellent condition. A note on the back states that it was removed from Malmesbury station. £200-350 - Sold for £200.

Lot 448 A smokebox numberplate, 63923, from a Great Northern Railway/LNER O2 Class 2-8-0 No 3478 built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 22692, in May 1921, renumbered 3923 in 1946, becoming BR 63923. Allocated to Langwith Junction by January 1948 and then New England before moving in March 1951 to Grantham from where it was withdrawn on 29 December 1962 and sold for scrap to Central Wagon Co at Wigan. Lot 454 A nameplate, FOUNTAINS HALL, from the (GWR) 6959 Modified Hall Class 4-6-0 No 7904 built at Swindon in April 1949 and named after the Hall close to Fountains Abbey near Ripon, North Yorkshire. Allocated new on 14 April 1949 to Old Oak Common where it spent almost all its working life, moving towards the end to Reading, Worcester, Bristol Barrow Road and Oxford from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 11 December 1965 and sold for scrap to Cashmores at Newport, taken by them on 13 June 1966. £4500-6000 - Sold for £4000.

Allocated to Coalville by January 1948 and later Wellingborough, Toton, Westhouses, Heaton Mersey and Newton Heath from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 12 February 1966 and despatched for scrap to TW Ward at Beighton on 6 May 1966. Lot 480 A nameplate, KINETON, from a standard gauge 335hp 4wDH built by Thomas Hill (Rotherham) Ltd of Kilnhurst, their Steelman Royale type, Works No V332, in 1988 for the Ministry of Defence, MOD No 277. It went new to the Central Ammunition Depot at Kineton, Warwickshire on 22 September 1988 and was named after the local village. Following withdrawal it is believed to have gone to the Central Ordnance Depot, Bicester, Oxfordshire for disposal. Cast brass, 25"x5½", in ex loco condition. £300-500 - Sold for £800.

Sold around 1938 to Thos. E. Gray & Co. Ltd, Burton Latimer, Northamptonshire. Sent to Hudswell, Clarke, Leeds for repair in October 1948, but these were not completed and the locomotive later scrapped. Engraved brass, 12½"x8", the front cleaned. £200-350 - Sold for £820.

Lot 496 A GWR cabside numberplate, 3809, from a 2884 Class 2-8-0 built at Swindon in September 1939. A long time Cardiff Canton engine, it moved in January 1961 to Banbury and in April 1964 to Croes Newydd from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 24 October 1964 and sold for scrap the following 14 December to Birds Commercial Motors at Morriston.
