A nameplate, THE LEICESTERSHIRE REGIMENT, from the LMS Class 7P Patriot 4-6-0 No 5987 built at Crewe in 1932, renumbered 5503 in 1934, becoming BR 45503. Named on 8 July 1938 by Brigadier General B.C. Dent at a ceremony held at Leicester London Road station, it was renamed without ceremony on 3 November 1948 as The Royal Leicestershire Regiment, using the original regimental badges. Allocated to sheds as far afield as Willesden and Carlisle, it was finally withdrawn from Upperby in August 1961 and taken to Crewe Works where cutting up was completed by the end of September. 52½" long, the front repainted. The nameplate is displayed with a replica badge in cast brass. £8000-10000 |
