A GWR cabside numberplate, 4989, from a 4900 Hall Class 4-6-0 built at Swindon in February 1931 and named CHERWELL HALL after part of St Hilda's College in Oxford. A long time Reading engine, its later sheds were Gloucester, Southall, Pontypool Road, Westbury, Taunton and Severn Tunnel Junction from where it was withdrawn on 6th November 1964 and sold for scrap to Hayes at Bridgend on 12 January 1965. Cast brass, cleaned and the front repainted. £900-1200 |
