Lot 1 A BR(W) booking office notice, H.M. FORCES MUST PRODUCE IDENTITY CARDS WHEN BOOKING LEAVE TICKETS, (flangeless). Enamel, 9"x6", in excellent condition. £100-200 - Sold for £260.

Lot 2 A small carriage board, LEEK-STOKE; services were withdrawn in 1964. Painted wood, length 28", in original condition. £100-200 - Sold for £210 to commission or postal bidder number 8067.

Lot 3 A GWR roundel pattern tea pot by Ashworth, complete with lid, a hairline crack at one side, otherwise good. An unusual china example, most of the GWR teapots being silver plate. £100-200 - Sold for £110.

Lot 4 A single line key token, HOOK NORTON-BLOXHAM, (alloy), from the Banbury and Cheltenham route which closed to passengers east of Chipping Norton in 1951; freight traffic continued to use this section until 1963. £150-300 - Sold for £260.

Lot 5 A LNER lamp tablet, MORNINGSIDE ROAD, (f/f) from the Edinburgh South Suburban Line; the station closed in 1962. Enamel, 16"x5", rim chips top centre. £350-500 - Sold for £1100.

Lot 6 A worksplate PECKETT 1478, 1917, from a standard gauge 0-4-0ST, new to City of Birmingham Electricity Supply Department, Nechells Power Station, Washwood Heath, Birmingham, their No 2. Transferred to Hams Hall Power Station, Coleshill, Warwickshire around 1950 and returned to Nechells in 1957. Sold for scrap in June 1972. Engraved brass, 12"x8½", the front characters repainted. £200-350 - Sold for £500.

Lot 7 A GWR signal box shelf plate, GALTON JUNC L.M.& S., engraved brass, 4¾"x1½". The junction was on the Birmingham New Street to Wolverhampton route where a spur connected to the Handsworth Junction to Kidderminster route. £100-200 - Sold for £300.

Lot 8 A depot plaque, Crewe Electric, featuring an eagle. Cast aluminium, 17½" square, in ex loco condition. £200-350 - Sold for £380 to commission or postal bidder number 4295.

Lot 9 An 0 gauge finescale kit built GWR Castle Class 4-6-0, 5092, Tresco Abbey, in BR green with box The loco is superbly built to the highest standard with all the fine detail expected of a superior model, more underframe detail than normal inc: working eccentrics, brake rods & a plethora of steam pipes, the tender with similar attention to fine detailing. All painted & lined to the highest standard. An exceptional model with superior cab, underframe & general fine work. One minus point, the left side steam point is detached and requires refixing, the pipe is present. £700-1000 - Sold for £620.

Lot 10 A BR(W) double royal poster, TEIGNMOUTH IS DEVON, Anon. Edge nicks repaired. (PR69) £150-300 - Sold for £320.00 to commission or postal bidder number 419.

Lot 11 A shedplate 52G Sunderland (February 1958 to September 1967). Formerly 54A, this ex NER shed was recoded in 1958 when it was custodian to 45 locos. On closure it was, along with West Hartlepool, the final outpost of steam in the north east. The front repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £210.

Lot 12 An LNER seat back plate, WHEATHAMPSTEAD, from the Welwyn to Luton and Dunstable route; the station closed in 1965. This is the first example to appear at auction; the station did not have totems. Cast iron, length 50", the front repainted. £500-800 - Sold for £1500.

Lot 13 A South Eastern Railway coat of arms transfer mounted on a wooden board, with beading, 7"x10", overall 11¾"x14¾". £100-200 - Sold for £50.

Lot 14 A Midland Railway, Engineers Department, firebuckets notice, cast iron, 13¾"x 9½", the front repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £160.

Lot 15 A BR(S) totem sign, EXMOUTH, (f/f), the terminus of the branches from Exeter Central and Sidmouth Junction. Edge chips restored, otherwise excellent. £600-900 - Sold for £1350 to commission or postal bidder number 1358.

Lot 16 A smokebox numberplate, 63653, from a 2-8-0 built to Ministry of Munitions order for the Railway Operating Division of the Royal Engineers to Robinson's Great Central Railway design by Kitson & Co, Works No 5194, in April 1918, ROD No 1612. It was shipped new to France where it worked until returning to the UK in December 1919 after hostilities had ceased when it was loaned to the London & North Western Railway as their No 2902. It was returned to the ROD in August 1921 and stored at Queensferry until acquired by the LNER in December 1923, as their O4 Class No 6370, renumbered 3653 in 1946, becoming BR 63653. Allocated to March by January 1948, it spent most of its BR days at Frodingham with a final six months at Doncaster from where it was withdrawn on 17 April 1966 and sold for scrap to Station Steel at Wath. Ex loco condition. £300-500 - Sold for £240.

Lot 17 A GWR fingerboard from Ruabon station, LLANGOLLEN, BALA, DOLGELLY & BARMOUTH. An early style with white metal letters on wood, some loss of lettering on each side, length 45½", in original condition. £150-300 - Sold for £280 to commission or postal bidder number 8714.

Lot 18 A shedplate 1D Devons Road Bow (1949 to August 1958 for steam, total closure October 1964). This ex NLR shed had an allocation of 50 in 1950. It became the first diesel only depot on the system; a number of the new diesels also carried this code. Repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £80.

Lot 19 A Midland Railway signal lever plate, CAMP HILL DOWN GOODS HOME TO LAWLEY ST, engraved brass, 5"x4". £80-120 - Sold for £150.

Lot 20 A BR(NE) sign, SMOKING PROHIBITED, (f/f). Enamel, 17¾"x10", a rim chip lower right, otherwise excellent. £150-300 - Sold for £270 to commission or postal bidder number 8524.

Lot 21 A BR(Sc) double royal poster, NORTHERN SCOTLAND, NEAR INVERSHIN, SUTHERLAND, by Jack Merriott. A scene of the Far North Line. Minor edge chips repaired. (B24735) £150-300 - Sold for £220.

Lot 22 A smokebox numberplate, 7907, from a (GWR) 4900 Hall Class 4-6-0 HART HALL built at Swindon and named after a Hall attached to Hertford College, Oxford. Allocated new on 5 January 1950 to St Philips Marsh, it spent virtually all its working life either there or at the other Bristol Sheds, Bath Road and Barrow Road, finishing its days at Oxford from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 4 December 1965 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Newport on 6 July 1966. Repainted. £500-800 - Sold for £820 to commission or postal bidder number 3738.

Lot 23 A Great Central Railway silver plated tea pot by Walker & Hall, 6½" tall, with ball feet, the saloon number 1234 below the coat of arms. £150-300 - Sold for £240.

Lot 24 A signal box plunger, EAST HAM No 2, from the London, Tilbury & Southend route. Brass with engraved ring, in original condition. £100-200 - Sold for £100.

Lot 25 A nameplate, LORD KITCHENER, from a standard gauge 0-6-0ST built by Kitson, Works No 5158, in 1915, which went new to Walsall Wood Colliery Co Ltd, Walsall Wood Colliery, Staffordshire, as their number 5. Became National Coal Board property on 1 January 1947. It was repaired at Cannock Chase Central Workshops in 1951 and had a further protracted overhaul there between 1959 and 1963. Scrapped on site at Walsall Wood in April 1965 by L. Wallace. Cast brass, length 33¼", the front cleaned but unpainted. £600-900 - Sold for £.

Lot 26 A set of GWR oil plates, PETROLEUM, BURNING OIL No 2, LOCO OIL, AXLE OIL, cast iron, 6”x5 1/2" with fixing lugs, an unusual pattern for such plates, in original condition.(4) £200-350 - Sold for £700.

Lot 27 A smokebox numberplate, 7413, from a GWR 7400 Class 0-6-0ST built at Swindon in December 1936. Allocated to Neyland by January 1948 and later Swindon, Hereford, Tyseley and Stourbridge from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 5 September 1964 and sold for scrap to Arnott Young at Bilston on 27 October 1964. The front repainted. £300-400 - Sold for £300.

Lot 28 A set of Midland & Great Northern Joint Railway automatic tablet exchange apparatus, comprising jaws, cabside fixings and adjusters. M&GN, 5" 4" ABOVE RAIL LEVEL cast in the side. Cast brass, 26"x20", in original condition. £150-300 - Sold for £700 to commission or postal bidder number 8133.

Lot 29 A BR(M) direction sign, APPLEBY EAST & WEST STATIONS, (f/f), referring to the former North Eastern station on the Stainmore route and the Midland station on the Settle and Carlisle route. Enamel 28"x 13", a couple of small face chips, away from the lettering, and edge chips, all neatly restored. £500-800 - Sold for £800 to commission or postal bidder number 4845.

Lot 30 A GWR two tier mahogany cased repeater indicating Lock and Bar, with On/Off flags and brass plate, 31, manufactured by Walters and Co, and used at Round Oak North Signal Box, original condition. £250-400 - Sold for £700.

Lot 31 A nameplate, REITBOK, from a LNER B1 Class 4-6-0 No 1021, built at Darlington, Works No 2001, in March 1947, becoming BR 61021, and named when built after a species of antelope found in southern Africa. Allocated to Heaton by January 1948, it moved later the same year to Darlington where it spent most of its BR days before moving in September 1960 to York North from where it was withdrawn on 6 June 1967 and sold for scrap to Hughes Bolckow at Blyth. Cast brass, length 42¾", in ex loco condition. £6000-7000 - Sold for £5600 to commission or postal bidder number 7264.

Lot 32 A BR(S) totem sign, ESHER, (f/f), from West of England main line, the station for Sandown Park. Minor rim chips. £250-400 - Sold for £.

Lot 33 A Great Eastern Railway three aspect sliding knob handlamp, stamped GER, WELLS, 11, with a brass LNER plate, SURFLEET added when the lamp was relocated. Complete with interior, repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £580.

Lot 34 A BR speedometer from a Bulleid Pacific locomotive to register 0-100 mph, by Smiths Industrial Instruments Ltd. Overall diameter 9", in original condition. £200-350 - Sold for £1550 to commission or postal bidder number 4919.

Lot 35 A single line key token, HALWILL-HOLSWORTHY, (brass), from the Okehampton to Bude branch which closed in 1966. £150-300 - Sold for £400.

Lot 36 A worksplate, GREAT CENTRAL RAILWAY, GORTON WORKS, 1907. Locos built by the GCR at Gorton in 1907 were all Class 9J 0-6-0 numbered between 283-318 which became LNER J11 Class, all surviving into BR days numbered in the 643xx and 644xx series. Cast brass 10¾"x5¼", the front repainted. £300-500 - Sold for £520.

Lot 37 A BR(NE) totem sign, MOORTHORPE, (f/f), from the Swinton and Knottingly Joint Line. Excellent condition. £1000-1500 - Sold for £1400 to commission or postal bidder number 450.

Lot 38 A London, Brighton & South Coast Railway semaphore shunt signal repeater, with brass case, a loss to the paintwork at the top of the face. £100-200 - Sold for £260.

Lot 39 A GWR quad royal poster, THE CAMBRIAN COAST, by Charles Pears, a classic 1930s image, laid down on linen to conserve. £800-1200 - Sold for £3000 to commission or postal bidder number 295.

Lot 40 An early Midland Railway square fronted three aspect handlamp, the top and body bearing matching plates, 8416. Original condition, the door catch requires attention. £250-400 - Sold for £260.

Lot 41 A Webb and Thompson large train staff, FERBANE-BANAGHER, from the Clara to Bangor branch, closed to passengers in 1947 and freight in 1963. £200-350 - Sold for £200 to commission or postal bidder number 782.

Lot 42 A carriage print, PETERGATE, YORK, by H Tittensor, from the LNER pre-war series. £100-200 - Sold for £250 to commission or postal bidder number 7842.

Lot 43 A nameplate CITY OF NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE from Class 43 43113 which was named at Newcastle Central station in April 1983. This plate was removed in March 1989 and eventually replaced in February 1993 with a black background and silver lettered plate. This was the first Inter City 125 power car to be named. Cast aluminium, length 45¼", the front repainted. £2000-3000 - Sold for £2600.

Lot 44 A BR(Sc) totem sign, GOLSPIE, (f/f), from the Far North Line, from Inverness to Wick and Thurso; the station is between The Mound and Brora, in the county of Sutherland. A minor blemish upper right, otherwise excellent. £800-1200 - Sold for £1800 to commission or postal bidder number 1380.

Lot 45 A Waterford & Tramore Railway cast iron gate notice. Cast iron, 12"x12", in original condition. £150-300 - Sold for £380 to commission or postal bidder number 486.

Lot 46 A worksplate, NORTH BRITISH LOCOMOTIVE Co, 25806, 1946, from a LNER B1 Class 4-6-0 No 1050 built in June 1946, becoming BR 61050. Allocated to Norwich by January 1948 and later Darnall, Canklow, Retford GN, Doncaster and Langwith Junction, it was one of fourteen B1s loaned to the Southern Region in May 1953 when the Bulleid Pacifics had to be taken out of service temporarily for axle examination. Withdrawn from Langwith Junction on 6 February 1966, it was transferred to Departmental Stock as DS 30 and used as a stationary boiler until sold for scrap on 2 October 1968 to W. Heselwood at Attercliffe and despatched to them from Derby on 31 October. Cast white brass, 13¾"x5½", the front lightly cleaned. £150-300 - Sold for £380 to commission or postal bidder number 7857.

Lot 47 A late 19th century NER 16" double dial drum clock used at Sunderland. In oak case, now painted brown, mounted through an ogee shaped bracket with metal strap fixings so the clock projects from wall. Overall height excluding fixings: 41¼". Both dials now written LNER, rear of main dial with dial-writing instruction BR(NE) 12913. Hands to main dial replaced, those to slave dial probably original and typical of Potts of Leeds. Cast brass bezel with bevelled glass to main dial, replaced clip-in spun bezel to slave. Chain fusee movement with two opposing sets of motion work one driving the hands of the slave dial. Pendulum rod with oval insertion allowing it to swing over the slave motion work. Ex-LNER records show it was used in the North Booking Hall at Sunderland. Complete with pendulum, winder and copies of entry in LNER records. £500-800 - Sold for £500 to commission or postal bidder number 8708.

Lot 48 An LMS Target sign, SHEPLEY & SHELLEY, from the Sheffield to Penistone and Huddersfield route, cast aluminium, length 63", original orange paint dating from the time the station became part of the North Eastern region. £400-600 - Sold for £940.

Lot 49 A Tyers No.6 single line tablet, DELABOLE-PORT ISAAC ROAD, (brass/steel), from the North Cornwall line between Okehampton and Padstow, which closed in 1966. £250-400 - Sold for £460.

Lot 50 A BR(W) totem sign, TAUNTON, (h/f), from the West of England main line. Edge rusting repainted. £500-800 - Sold for £900.

Lot 51 A small carriage board, BOLTON-BLACKBURN, used on local services via Darwen. Wooden, length 28", original paintwork. £80-120 - Sold for £170.

Lot 52 A BR(W) station sign, DRINKING WATER, (f/f). Enamel, 9"x6", in excellent condition. £80-120 - Sold for £230.

Lot 53 A Great Central Railway, Worksop, china plate by Copeland, 7¾"x4", a couple of marks, otherwise excellent. £80-120 - Sold for £90.

Lot 54 A smokebox numberplate, 45493, from a LMS Class 4 4-6-0 No 5493 built at Derby and allocated new to Longsight on 12 January 1944. It spent most of its BR days at Rugby from 1949 to 1963, moving late on to Holyhead, Bescot, Banbury, Shrewsbury and Carlisle Kingmoor from where it was withdrawn on 31 December 1967 and cut up by Drapers at Hull on 4 May 1968. Repainted; a weld repair to the left of the first number 4. £250-400 - Sold for £900 to commission or postal bidder number 4699.

Lot 55 A London, Chatham & Dover Railway silver plated sugar bowl, by Elkington, 3½" tall; a little wear though the coat of arms reasonably clear. £50-80 - Sold for £70 to commission or postal bidder number 3554.

Lot 56 A worksplate, BEYER PEACOCK, 6961, 1948, from a 5ft 3ins gauge Great Northern Railway of Ireland 4-4-0 No 206 named LIFFEY after the Irish River. In 1953 ownership passed to the Great Northern Railway Board and when the railway was split in 1958 between the governments of Eire and Northern Ireland it became part of Coras Iompair Eireann (CIE)as their No 206N. It was withdrawn in 1960. Cast brass, 10"x6", the front cleaned but unpainted. £200-350 - Sold for £330 to commission or postal bidder number 3107.

Lot 57 A BR(S) totem sign, CLAPHAM JUNCTION, (f/f), probably the most famous junction in the world. Several edge chips just into the green. £500-800 - Sold for £940 to commission or postal bidder number 2521.

Lot 58 A single line key token, HELMSDALE-FORSINARD, (brass), from the Far North Line from Inverness to Wick and Thurso. £150-300 - Sold for £270 to commission or postal bidder number 7342.

Lot 59 A LMS double royal poster, EUSTON HOTEL, LONDON, REMODELLED & MODERNISED, featuring a striking image of the Euston Arch. Repairs and blemish upper left edge and damage to edge lower right. £100-200 - Sold for £250 to commission or postal bidder number 328.

Lot 60 A worksplate ANDREW BARCLAY 361, 1942, from a standard gauge 0-4-0DM new to the War Department at Longtown Central Ammunition Depot, Cumberland as WD 46. Later to the Longmoor Military Railway and sent to France just after D-day, returning to Great Britain in 1946. Later renumbered 70046 and then 826. Worked at a number of Army depots, including a period in the Middle East between 1952 and 1955 and Germany between 1960 and 1969. Later returned to Bicester Depot, Oxfordshire. Sold in 1978 to Farthingstone Silos Ltd., Northampton. In 1988 it passed to the Harry Needle Railroad Company and in May 2001 moved to Booth Roe Metals, Rotherham, for scrap. Cast brass, 16½"x11¾", in ex loco condition. £150-300 - Sold for £150.

Lot 61 A signal box nameboard, STONEGATE, (f/f) from the Tunbridge Wells to Hastings route. Enamel, 60"x12", minor blemishes and rim chips. £150-300 - Sold for £280 to commission or postal bidder number 1380.

Lot 62 A shedplate, 15A Wellingborough (1949 to September 1963), then Leicester Midland (September 1963 to June 1965). The ex MR shed at Wellingborough was home to around 70 locos in the 1950s. The ex MR shed at Leicester had just 25 locos in its final year of steam operation. Ex loco condition. £100-200 - Sold for £120.

Lot 63 A Hull & Barnsley Railway signal makers plate, SAXBY & FARMER Co., LONDON, CHIPPENHAM & CALCUTTA. Cast iron, 8½"x11½", repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £320.

Lot 64 A GWR cabside numberplate, 1144, from a Swansea Harbour Trust 0-4-0ST built by Hawthorn Leslie, Works No 2781, in July 1909, SHT No 13. When the SHT and its locos was taken over by the GWR in July 1923, this loco became GWR 974 and was renumbered 1144 in September 1948. Apart from a few months at Swansea Paxton Street in 1955, it spent all its BR days at Swansea East Dock from where it was withdrawn on 8 January 1960 and sold for scrap to Woodfield & Way at Cardiff on 1 April 1960. Cast brass, the front repainted. £600-900 - Sold for £850.

Lot 65 A GWR Hotels roundel pattern silver plated tea pot, three quarter pint size, by Walker & Hall. £80-120 - Sold for £210.

Lot 66 A BR(M) totem sign, SEALAND, (f/f), from the Chester Northgate to Wrexham route; the station closed in 1968. Excellent condition. £350-500 - Sold for £660 to commission or postal bidder number 1160.

Lot 67 A South African Railways cabside numberplate, 1411, from a 3ft 6ins gauge Class 19B 4-8-2, one of a class of only fourteen locos built by Berliner Machinenbau, Works No 9837, in 1930. All were withdrawn by 1977. Cast brass, 20½"x14½", the front paintwork removed but unpainted and unpolished. £250-400 - Sold for £560 to commission or postal bidder number 4120.

Lot 68 A Southern Railway destination plate, SURBITON, from the Waterloo departure indicator, the station on the Wimbledon to Weybridge section of the Southern main line. Enamel, 17"x2¼", minor edge chips. £80-120 - Sold for £45.

Lot 69 A Neath & Brecon Railway trespass notice. Cast iron, 19½"x11½", the front repainted. £400-600 - Sold for £960.

Lot 70 A BR(W) double royal poster, HERTFORDSHIRE, ALDBURY VILLAGE, by Jack Merriott. Border loss top left and lower right, edge nicks and a split to the left and right repaired. (LM1949) £150-300 - Sold for £260.

Lot 71 A shedplate, 53A Hull Dairycoates (1949 to February 1959). This ex NER shed had an allocation of around 150 loco during the 1950s. In February 1960 it was recoded 50B and finally closed to steam in June 1967. Ex loco condition. £100-200 - Sold for £160.

Lot 72 A fingerboard, NORTH WALSHAM, WROXHAM, NORWICH & LIVERPOOL STREET, used at Cromer Beach Station. Wooden, 41"x6¼", original paintwork with a little restoration to one side only. £100-200 - Sold for £160 to commission or postal bidder number 3115.

Lot 73 A BR(Sc) totem sign, DINGWALL, (f/f), from the Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh and Far North route. Excellent condition. £600-900 - Sold for £2200 to commission or postal bidder number 1380.

Lot 74 A nameplate, LITTLE WYRLEY HALL, from the (GWR) 6959 Modified Hall Class 4-6-0 No 7913 built at Swindon in March 1950 and named after the Hall four miles south-east of Cannock in Staffordshire. Allocated new to Tyseley on 13 March 1950, its later sheds included St Philips Marsh, Cardiff Canton, Cardiff East Dock and Severn Tunnel Junction from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 6 March 1965 and sold for scrap to Birds Commercial Motors at Bynea the following 8 April. Extended backplate, in ex loco condition. (See also next Lot). £6000-8000 - Sold for £6800.

Lot 75 A (GWR) cabside numberplate, 7913, from the 6959 Modified Hall Class 4-6-0 LITTLE WYRLEY HALL. Cast brass, the front repainted. (See previous Lot for loco history). £1000-1500 - Sold for £1200.

Lot 76 A BR(M) double royal poster, LICHFIELD CATHEDRAL, by Greene. (LM16657) £150-300 - Sold for £480 to commission or postal bidder number 4845.

Lot 77 A small carriage board, ROTHBURY-MORPETH, used on the Wansbeck route and Rothbury branch which closed in 1952. Painted wood, length 32½", in original condition. £150-300 - Sold for £220 to commission or postal bidder number 4197.

Lot 78 A nameplate YORKSHIRE CRICKET ACADEMY and badge from Class 43 43115 which was named at York station in June 1989. It carried this plate until 1993 when it was replaced with the silver background style. Stainless steel, length 55", the badge 9" square, in ex loco condition. £900-1200 - Sold for £600.

Lot 79 A Southern Railway doorplate, ENQUIRIES AND SEAT RESERVATIONS. Enamel 18"x7¾", a chip at the top right screw hole otherwise excellent. £150-300 - Sold for £620.

Lot 80 A London Brighton & South Coast Railway Coach plate LBSC, 20 TONS, 53. Cast iron, 9"x7", repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £360.

Lot 81 A Webb & Thompson large train staff, ARDRAHAN-ATHENRY, from the Claremorris to Limerick route. £200-300 - Sold for £300 to commission or postal bidder number 782.

Lot 82 A wagon or coach plate, C. R. Co., BUILDERS 1898, ST ROLLOX WORKS. Cast iron, 6½"x4½", in original condition. £80-120 - Sold for £180.

Lot 83 A carriage print TINTAGEL, NORTH CORNWALL, by Donald Maxwell, from the Southern Railway original series. £100-200 - Sold for £190 to commission or postal bidder number 1007.

Lot 84 A London & North Western Railway notice from Wolverton Works, 2" SOFT WATER VALVE TO CUT TRAVERSERS. Cast iron, 18¾"x13¼", in original condition. £100-200 - Sold for £140 to commission or postal bidder number 3403.

Lot 85 A Midland Railway signal lever plate, DISTANT FROM ELSTREE SLOW LINE, from the southern end of the Midland Main Line, engraved brass, 5"x4". £80-120 - Sold for £100 to commission or postal bidder number 1824.

Lot 88 A smokebox numberplate, 32448, from a London Brighton & South Coast Railway C2 Class 0-6-0 No 448 built by Vulcan Foundry, Works No 1415, in August 1894. It was rebuilt with a larger boiler and re-classified to C2X Class in November 1912. Allocated as BR 32448 to Bricklayers Arms by January 1948 and later Redhill, Stewarts Lane and Norwood Junction from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 7 October 1961 and cut up immediately at Ashford Works. Lot 90 A worksplate, W.G. BAGNALL, 2654, from a standard gauge 0-6-0ST new in February 1942 to Park Gate Iron & Steel Co. Ltd., Charwelton Ironstone Quarries, Northamptonshire, named CHERWELL. In January 1948 it moved to the nearby Byfield Ironstone Quarries. These quarries closed in February 1965 and in August 1966 the locomotive passed into preservation with Daventry Borough Council at a local recreation ground. In October 2001 it moved to its current location with the Rushden Historical Transport Society, Rushden, Northamptonshire. Lot 92 A GWR cabside numberplate, 3707, from a 8750 Class 0-6-0PT built at Swindon in October 1936. A long time Hornsey engine, it moved in 1954 to Colwick and the following year to Bradford Bowling Junction from where it was withdrawn on 30 May 1955 and cut up at Doncaster Works. Lot 105 A smokebox numberplate, 40183 from a LMS Class 3 2-6-2T No 183 built at Derby and allocated new to Holbeck on 12 May 1938. Its later sheds were Manningham, Normanton, Hellifield, Lostock Hall and Lower Darwen from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 28 October 1961 and despatched for scrap to T. Burton at Middleton Goods Yard, Lancaster on 22 February 1962. Repainted; a neat weld repair to the left of the number 1. £300-500 - Sold for £280.

Lot 107 A nameplate, PRINCESS BEATRICE, from the LMS Princess Royal Class 8P 4-6-2 No 6209, BR 46209, built at Crewe and named when built after the fifth daughter (1857-1944) of Queen Victoria. Allocated new on loan to Crewe North on 23 August 1935, it moved the following month to Camden, returning to Crewe North in May 1942 and spending its best days there until September 1958. It finished its days at Camden from where it was withdrawn on 27 September 1962 and cut up at Crewe Works by 23 November 1962. Cast brass, length 46", the front repainted. £18000-22000 - Sold.

Lot 108 A Tyers No.6 single line tablet, MELDON JUNC-ASHBURY, (fibre). From the Okehampton to Bude and Padstow route which closed in 1966. £200-350 - Sold for £360.

Lot 109 An 0 gauge model of GWR Hall Class 4-6-0 loco 5905, Knowsley Hall, in GWR green livery, built to a very good standard, loco chassis and running gear need a little attention. Motor is 12 Volt D.C. running an 18-1 Lionel gearbox. Motor works but requires a 2 rail pick up, driving wheels are insulated on the right side. An excellent loco & tender, (tender loose weighted) requiring some work, but with good detail. £200-300 - Sold for £500.

The sign is in the style of an LMS target, in chocolate and cream, and is an intermediate or transitional design between the LMS target and BR totem. The size, 36"x13", the same length as a totem. £300-500 - Sold for £200.

Lot 129 A smokebox numberplate, 52179, from a Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway 11 Class 0-6-0 No 1193 built at Horwich in February 1893, becoming LMS 12179 and BR 52179. Lot 149 A nameplate, SIR COLGREVANCE, with KING ARTHUR CLASS appendage below, from a Southern Railway N15 King Arthur Class 4-6-0 No 779, BR 30779, built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 23225, in July 1925, and named after Colgrevance of Gore, a Knight of the Round Table in Arthurian Legend. Allocated to Nine Elms by January 1948 and later Eastleigh, Stewarts Lane and Dover, returning in June 1953 to Nine Elms from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 11 July 1959 and cut up at Eastleigh Works in the week ending 19 September 1959. Lot 164 A Great Eastern Railway splitter lamp, the body stamped G.E.R, AYLSHAM, 2, a station closed in 1952 on the Wroxham to County School route. The lamp is complete with interior fittings and in original condition. £100-200 - Sold for £60.

Lot 165 A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 6601, 1918, from a Robinson Great Central Railway type 2-8-0 built to Ministry of Munitions order by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 21892, in May 1918 for the Railway Operating Division of the Royal Engineers, ROD No 1915. Loaned to the London & North Western Railway in September 1919 as their No 2884, it was returned to the ROD in August 1921 and stored at Queensferry. Acquired by the LNER in February 1927, it became their No 6601. It was rebuilt with Thompson B1 type boiler and re-classified as O1 Class in August 1944, renumbered 3806 in 1946 becoming BR 63806. After rebuilding it was allocated to Thornton but in January 1949 moved to Annesley where it was joined by fifty other O1s for working the famous fast coal trains to Woodford Halse known as windcutters. Withdrawn from Annesley on 21 November 1962, it was despatched for scrap to Derby Works on 15 October 1963. Cast iron, 9"x5", the front repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £360.

Allocated to Tyseley by January 1948, its later sheds included Stafford Road, Ebbw Junction and Severn Tunnel Junction from where it was withdrawn on 19 July 1962 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Newport on 14 November 1962. Cast iron, repainted; remains of the original fixing bolts still present. £500-600 - Sold for £500.

Lot 171 A live steam model, 2½" gauge, North Eastern Railway, Worsdell S1 Class 4-6-0 locomotive and tender, later LNER B14. Twin cylinder, coal fired, with sight glass & blow down, pressure gauge, regulator, screw reverser and steam whistle. The once ventilated ashpan has had the bottom plate knocked out and is rough edged. Connecting rods, eccentrics, linkages and running gear all look clean and undamaged. North Eastern green lined black/white, white cab roof with sliding centre section and No.2005 on cabside numberplates, red underframe, sprung buffers and drop link coupling. Main oil reservoir is open type with access under the front curved section of running plate, (so please do not invert the loco). Six wheeled coal rail tender with central coal space, water tank, connecting tubes & hand operated water pump, (pump currently seized and missing the extension handle), sprung buffers & drop link coupling. Loco has not had a lot of use in the past and there is no boiler history or certificate, condition of the boiler is unknown. An fine model in excellent condition. £800-1200 - Sold for £600.

Lot 173 A (GWR) cabside numberplate, 4173, from a 5101 Class 2-6-2T built at Swindon and allocated new to Stourbridge on 28 October 1949. Apart from a couple of years at Kidderminster, it spent all its working life at Stourbridge from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 5 December 1964 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Great Bridge on 2 April 1965. Lot 174 A North British Railway three aspect fogmans handlamp, stamped DUNFERMLINE UPPER, NBR, complete with original interior and embossed brass Bulpitts Patent plate. Repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £260 to commission or postal bidder number 8651.

Lot 175 A South African Railways cabside numberplate 2577, from a 3ft 6ins gauge Class GO 4-8-2+2-8-4 Garratt built by Henschel, Works No 28710, in 1954. A smaller version of the Class GMA Garratts, the GOs were much less successful and all were withdrawn by 1975. Cast brass, 20¾"x14¾", the front repainted. £500-800 - Sold for £400.

Lot 176 A mid to late 19th century SER 12" dial walnut dropcase clock used at Betchworth, in ex-station condition with repairs, overall height 18". The box with damage to veneer on base and drop, and repaired splits to dial surround with strengthening to rear. Two side doors and bottom door lacking cockbead, closed with typical SER latch with large brass knob. Rear of box stamped 456 SE and brass plate with same number inside side door. 12" dial with some rubbing in upper half written BR(S) John Walker 1, South Molton St.. London 456 S.E. Replaced clip-in spun brass bezel. Chain fusee movement, front plate stamped and scratched 456. Lot 177 A nameplate ADJUTANT, from a standard gauge 0-6-0ST built by Manning Wardle, works number 1913, in 1917. New to the War Department at the Royal Engineers depot, Purfleet, Essex. Circa 1919 it went to the Cannock & Rugeley Colliery Co Ltd, Cannock Wood Colliery, Staffordshire, retaining its name and numbered 6. In 1945 it was loaned to the Littleton Collieries Ltd and was still there when the National Coal Board took over in January 1947. Subsequently transferred back to Rawnsley locomotive shed on the Cannock & Rugeley collieries system, it was sent to Cannock Central Workshops in late 1960 or early 1961 and scrapped there in March 1962. Cast brass, length 42", the front cleaned but unpainted. £600-900 - Sold for £1700.

Lot 179 A shedplate, 16E Kirkby-in-Ashfield (September 1963 to October 1966). Formerly 16C and 16B, this ex MR shed was home to around 40 Stanier 8Fs and a handful of 4Fs in its final three years. Ex loco condition. £100-200 - Sold for £110 to commission or postal bidder number 1176.

Lot 180 A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY 69865, REBUILT DARLINGTON, 1935, from a LNER A8 Class 4-6-2T originally built by the North Eastern Railway at Darlington in March 1914 as a Class D 4-4-2T No 2158, becoming LNER Class H1. Rebuilt by the LNER at Darlington in May 1935 as a 4-6-2T and re-classified as A8 Class, it retained its NER number until renumbered 9865 in 1946, becoming BR 69865. Allocated to Blaydon by January 1948, it moved in May of that year to Whitby where it remained until withdrawn on 21 April 1958. It was cut up at Darlington Works. Cast brass, 9"x5", lightly cleaned but unpainted. £500-700 - Sold for £800.

Lot 183 A smokebox numberplate, 30771, from a Southern Railway N15 King Arthur Class 4-6-0 No 771 built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 23217, in June 1925 and named SIR SAGRAMORE after Sagramore le Desirous, a Knight of Arthur's Court in Arthurian Legend. Allocated to Dover by January 1948 and later Stewarts Lane, Basingstoke, Bournemouth and Salisbury from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 1 April 1961 and cut up at Eastleigh Works in the week ending 6 May 1961. Lot 184 A BR(W) totem sign, KNIGHTON, (f/f) from the Central Wales line. A couple of minor blemishes and surface marks, otherwise excellent. £800-1200 - Sold for £800.

Lot 185 A shedplate 88A Cardiff Cathays (1949 to December 1957), then Cardiff Radyr (December 1957 to October 1960), then Cardiff Canton (October 1960 to September 1962). The ex TVR shed at Cathays had an allocation of 80 locos, while ex GWR shed Radyr had 55 locos during this period. Ex GWR Canton’s allocation of 130 included 12 Britannias until September 1961. Canton closed to steam in September 1962 and became a diesel depot. Ex loco condition. £100-200 - Sold for £90.

Lot 186 A chronograph pocket watch, inscribed N.E.R, No1, part of the equipment on the North Eastern Railway dynomoniter car built in 1903, which became the main locomotive testing car of the LNER. The watch was acquired by Sir Vincent Raven, Chief Mechanical Engineer of the NER when the car was built and was used by Sir Nigel Gresley as his personal measuring instrument on locomotive performance tests. The watch was used during the world speed record run in 1938 where Mallard achieved 126 m.p.h. It is sold by the family of the late Mr Beresford, who worked with Gresley, and later O.V.S. Bulleid. A signed, framed photograph of Sir Nigel accompanies the lot. £500-800 - Sold for £3100.

Lot 193 A nameplate, POULTON GRANGE, from a GWR 6800 Grange Class 4-6-0 No 6843 built at Swindon in October 1937 and named after Poulton Grange Farm six miles east of Cirencester. Allocated to Tyseley by January 1948 and later Carmarthen and Goodwick, it spent its final seven years at Llanelly from where it was withdrawn on 26 February 1964 and sold for scrap to George Cohen at Morriston on 24 April 1964. Lot 194 A London Brighton & South Coast Railway oil can with a steel plate, OCKLEY, a station between Horsham and Dorking. The can is stamped LB&SCR, repainted, and complete with lid and copper spout. £80-120 - Sold for £190 to commission or postal bidder number 8698.

Lot 195 A nameplate KEIGHLEY AND WORTH VALLEY RAILWAY from Class 31 31444, later 31544. Named at Keighley station in August 1988. Plates were removed in December 1995 when the loco was withdrawn from Crewe Diesel and sent to Wigan for component recovery. Cut up by March 2001. Cast aluminium, 73"x17¾", in ex loco condition. £1000-1500 - Sold for £1700.

Lot 196 A GWR running in board, DUNSTER, the first station outside Minehead on the branch from Taunton. This is an early style dating from the 1870s/80. Cast iron, 108"x24", repainted. It was renumbered 1625 in 1946, becoming BR 61625. Allocated to Norwich by January 1948, it moved later that year to Cambridge and in 1953 to Ipswich, returning for a final few weeks to Cambridge from where it was withdrawn on 3 December 1959 and cut up at Doncaster Works. Lot 237 A nameplate, CROMWELL'S CASTLE, from the (GWR) 4073 Castle Class 4-6-0 No 7031 built at Swindon in June 1950 and named after the Castle on the Isle of Tresco built in 1651 to replace King Charles' Castle. Allocated new on 20 June 1950 to Laira where it spent most of its working life, moving in September 1959 to Swindon and in February 1962 to Worcester from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 13 July 1963 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Great Bridge on 11 May 1964. Lot 248 A GWR cabside numberplate, 6820, from a 6800 Grange Class 4-6-0, KINGSTONE GRANGE, built at Swindon in January 1937 and named after a former monastic grange, now a country house, at Thruxton, six miles south of Hereford. Allocated to Pontypool Road by January 1948, its later sheds included Ebbw Junction, Worcester and Cardiff East Dock from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 10 July 1965 and sold for scrap to Birds Commercial Motors at Morriston on 25 August 1965. Lot 249 A single line key token, CRAIGENDORAN-GARELOCHHEAD, brass, from the West Highland line to Fort William and Mallaig. The section on a plate riveted over the original inscription FASLANE-RHU. A section between Craigendoran and Garelochhead abolished with the closure of the Faslane branch and junction box and Rhu Station and box. The plate has been attached to the back of the key to reveal the original section. £150-300 - Sold for £640.

Lot 252 A worksplate PECKETT, 2042, 1943, from a standard gauge 0-4-0ST new to the Royal Ordance Factory at Aycliffe, County Durham as No 8. Originally oil-fired but later converted to coal. Sold with the factory to North Eastern Trading Estates in October 1945, the site being converted to a trading estate. In July 1946 it moved to the company’s Team Valley Trading Estate, Gateshead where it remained until scrapped in January 1964. Engraved brass, 15"x8½", the front lightly polished. £300-400 - Sold for £430.

Lot 255 A shedplate, 16B Peterborough Spital Bridge (1935 to August 1950), Kirkby-in-Ashfield (October 1955 to September 1963; Annesley (September 1963 to January 1966), and Colwick (from January 1966 to December 1966 for steam). The ex MR shed at Peterborough had an allocation of 55 and Kirkby had over 60 locos when using this code. The ex GCR shed at Annesley housed 70 locos at this time and the ex GNR shed at Colwick had 60 locos on its books. A LMS Derby casting from the late 1940s. Allocated to Guildford by January 1948 and later Salisbury and Exmouth Junction from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 27 May 1961 and cut up at Eastleigh Works on 22 June 1961. Lot 270 A nameplate, TRANS-JORDAN, from the LMS Jubilee Class 6P 4-6-0 No 5633, BR 45633, built at Crewe and allocated new to Crewe North on 21 November 1934. Named by 4 May 1936 after the Emirate of Trans-Jordan, a then British controlled territory, when British control ceased it was renamed ADEN after the then British Colony at a ceremony at Euston station on 4 September 1946. Its later sheds included Rugby, Longsight, Preston, Carnforth and Warrington Dallam from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 16 October 1965 and despatched for scrap to T.W. Ward at Killamarsh on 15 March 1966. Cast brass, length 34½", the front repainted; the only Jubilee nameplate with a hyphen. £7500-9000 - Sold for £.

Lot 276 A GWR cabside numberplate, 6324, from a 43XX Class 2-6-0 built at Swindon in March 1921. Allocated to Worcester by January 1948, its later sheds included Oxley and Reading from where it was withdrawn on 2 April 1962 and cut up at Swindon Works in the five days ending 29 June 1962. Cast brass, the front repainted, the beading stamped with the usual engine and boiler details. £500-800 - Sold for £840.

Lot 277 A worksplate, NORTH BRITISH LOCOMOTIVE Co, 25142, 1944, from a War Department Austerity 2-8-0 built in July 1944 to Ministry of Supply order, WD No 7271, later 77271. Loaned to the LNER in May 1947 and allocated to Newport NER, it was purchased by BR in December 1949, becoming No 90348. Its BR sheds were Rose Grove, Accrington, Mirfield, Wakefield and Sunderland from where it was withdrawn on 9 September 1967 and sold for scrap to Hughes Bolckow at Blyth. Lot 279 A worksplate, BAGNALL, 2940, from a (GWR) 9400 Class 0-6-0PT No 8430 allocated new on 8 January 1953 to Reading where it spent all its working life. Withdrawn in the week ending 27 April 1963, it was taken for scrap by Cashmores at Newport on 9 January 1964. Cast brass, 8"x5¼", the front repainted. £250-400 - Sold for £340.

Lot 281 A worksplate HUDSWELL CLARKE, 533, 1899, from a standard gauge 0-4-0ST, new in December 1899 to the contractor Sir Robert McAlpine & Sons at their Barrhead depot, Glasgow and named MONTGOMERY. It was used on a number of contracts in Scotland, including the construction of Provan Gasworks, Glasgow, completed in 1904. Later de-named it became No 16. Between 1922 and 1924 it worked on the contract to improve the Watling Street road between Rochester and Strood in Kent. By 1925 it was in use on the McAlpine contract to construct Wissington Sugar Factory, Norfolk for British Sugar Manufacturing Ltd. On completion of this it was sold to the sugar company (later British Sugar Corporation Ltd) and used for shunting the coal yard at Wissington. It later lost its running number 16 and carried the name MAC. Sold for scrap to J. Yallop of Wareham around July 1957 and cut up in April 1958. Engraved brass, 13¼"x8¼", in ex loco condition. £500-600 - Sold for £1050.

Lot 282 A 2½“ gauge live steam locomotive, LNWR, Whale Experiment Class, 4-6-0, 61, Atalanta, in plain unlined black. Twin inside cylinders, possibly gas fired, with, regulator, pressure gauge, screw reverser which works via closing wishbones on inner connecting rods, sight glass with drain down tap. Fuel input into coupling under cab floor cab thence into under boiler tubes via sealed boiler backhead, no visible means of filling the boiler so this needs exploring. Safety valve loose on boiler top and valve lifter missing, safety valve cover loose fitted. Six wheeled tender has water tank with hand feed pump (no extension handle) clear space in tender for a gas tank connected via hole in tender floor, flexible connectors missing. All buffers sprung and drop link couplings front and rear. A good condition model, some parts require securing. £300-500 - Sold for £500.

Lot 290 A smokebox numberplate, 48326, from a LMS Class 8F 2-8-0 No 8326 built at Crewe in 1944, becoming BR 48326. Allocated new to Crewe South on 21 March 1944, it moved in 1947 to Buxton where it spent eleven years and, later, Widnes, Nuneaton, Warrington Dallam, Birkenhead and Sutton Oak from where it was withdrawn on 16 July 1966 and cut up by Drapers at Hull in the week ending 19 November 1966. Lot 291 A BR(W) headboard from an inspection saloon, INSPECTION COACH, from Newport Ebbw Junction where the divisional offices of the Civil Engineer were based. An auto coach was kept for visiting all the lines in the South Wales area and the board was used on these workings. Painted steel, 13½" diameter, with rear fitting for a lamp bracket, in original condition. £350-500 - Sold for £450.

Lot 292 A shedplate, 82E Yeovil Pen Mill (1949 – February 1958), then Bristol Barrow Road (February 1958 – November 1965). The ex GWR shed at Yeovil housed just 10 locos during this period. It was transferred from the WR to the SR becoming 71H, finally closing in January 1959. The ex Midland shed at Barrow Road, Bristol was transferred from the MR (22A) to the WR in 1958. At this time its allocation of around 50 locos included 3 Patriots and 9 Jubilees. However, by 1965 the depot had been “westernised” with an allocation that included 11 Halls and 2 Granges in its total of 40 locos. Ex loco condition. £100-200 - Sold for £320.

Lot 301 A worksplate ANDREW BARCLAY 1741 of 1921 from a 3ft 9½in gauge 0-4-0ST with outside cylinders new in June 1921 to British Portland Cement Manufacturers Ltd., Johnson’s Branch works, Greenhithe, Kent, with the name GOLIATH. The 3ft 9½in railway at Greenhithe was gradually replaced by standard gauge and finally closed around 1927. GOLIATH was rebuilt in 1927 by Andrew Barclay to standard gauge and continued to work at Johnson’s Branch (latterly without nameplates) until transferred to Wouldham Works, Essex in April 1960. It was scrapped on site there by W. Rice of Slades Green, Kent around July 1961. Cast brass, 16¾"x11¾", the front repainted. £250-350 - Sold for £275.

Lot 302 A nameplate, DORNEY COURT, from the GWR 2900 Saint Class 4-6-0 No 2940 built at Swindon in December 1911 and named when built after the Court one mile north-west of Windsor. At Cardiff Canton by January 1948, it was withdrawn from there on 17 January 1952 and cut up at Swindon Works during the four weeks ending on 19 April 1952. The plate has been repainted. £6000-8000 - Sold for £6100.

Lot 303 A worksplate BRITISH RAILWAYS DERBY BUILT 1965 AEI/SULZER (ex 25 259) from Class 25 D7609, later 25259. New to Tinsley in April 1966; withdrawn from Crewe in August 1986 and cut up by MC Processors Glasgow in June 1995. Lot 309 A cabside numberplate, MASHONALAND RAILWAY, 113, from a 3ft 6ins gauge 9th Class 4-8-0 built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 21476, in 1917 for the Mashonaland Railway Co which became part of Rhodesia Railways Co in 1927 and of Rhodesia Railways Ltd in 1936. It was re-boilered and re-classified to Class 9B in 1939 and transferred to Zambia Railways in July 1967 when the system was split between Zambia and Rhodesia. It was stabled in poor condition with no tender at Kabwe New Workshops in 2008, in the guise of No 84 with which it had switched identities. Lot 311 A worksplate, EVANS, ANDERSON & PHELAN, BRISBANE, 152, 1917, from a Queensland Government Railways 3'6" gauge Class C16 4-8-0 No 21, delivered to QGR in June 1917. EAP built engines for Queensland Railways at a non rail connected factory at Kangaroo Point, near Brisbane. In 1949 it received a new boiler which lasted until the engine was withdrawn in March 1963. Cast brass, 14¾"x8", the front repainted. £300-400 - Sold for £.

Lot 312 A shedplate 61A Kittybrewster (1949 – July 1961). The ex GNSR shed was home to between 50 and 70 steam locos, until it became a short lived diesel depot when the area became dieselised. Notable residents were the GNSR D40 4-4-0s and the NBR D34 4-4-0s, along with the diminutive Z4 and Z5 0-4-2Ts. Repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £160.

Allocated to Truro by January 1948, it later spent eleven years at Taunton, finishing its days at St Philips Marsh from where it was withdrawn on 7 May 1962 and sold for scrap to Central Wagon Co at Wigan on 25 June 1962. Lot 316 A nameplate WESTERN CHALLENGER and cabside numberplate D1019 from a Class 52 built at Swindon in May 1963. New to Old Oak Common; withdrawn from Laira in May 1973 and cut up at Swindon Works in October 1974. Cast aluminium letters and beading on steel backplate. Length 110". The loco was in a collision while in service and the lettering of the first word is scored, the third and fourth letters were lost and replaced. The nameplate has been restored on the front. The cabside is in similar condition, but undamaged, 32½"x10", the face repainted. (2) £5000-7000 - Sold for £7600.

Lot 319 A smokebox numberplate, 30253, from a London & South Western Railway M7 Class 0-4-4T No 253 built at Eastleigh in June 1897. It spent most of its working life in the West Country and was allocated to Exmouth Junction by January 1948, moving in March 1951 to Barnstaple Junction from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 7 October 1961 and cut up at Eastleigh Works in the week ending 18 November 1961. Repainted, a weld repair to the left of the first number. £500-800 - Sold for £700 to commission or postal bidder number 747.

Lot 320 A BR(W) totem sign, EALING BROADWAY, (h/f), from the Paddington to Reading section of the Great Western main line; edge chipping repaired at the top. This is one of the earlier examples of the Western Region totem, having no lower flange and being a development of the earlier lamp tablet. £300-500 - Sold for £520 to commission or postal bidder number 1528.

Lot 321 A Level Crossing Ground Frame Block Bell as recovered from a GWR location. £50-80 - Sold for £290.

Lot 322 A nameplate EDMUND BURKE from Metropolitan Railway electric locomotive number 7. Built in 1923 by Metropolitan-Vickers in Barrow in Furness, the loco was named in 1927 after the eighteenth century MP and philosopher who lived in Beaconsfield. The ornate brass plates were removed during the Second World War and replaced in 1953 by aluminium ones. The locomotives were used to trains between The City, Baker Street and Rickmansworth, where steam took over for the journey to Aylesbury. They are by far the oldest named main line electric locos. Withdrawal came in 1962 when it was stored at Mitre Bridge along with nos. 2, 16, and 18. Heavily vandalised they were eventually towed to Rugby where they were cut up in July 1966. A backboard is available to enable the plate to be wall mounted. Cast aluminium, 49½", ex loco condition. £2000-3000 - Sold for £5600 to commission or postal bidder number 1043.

Lot 324 A worksplate, BEYER PEACOCK, 1902, from a Tasmanian Government Railway 3ft 6ins gauge A Class 4-4-0 express passenger engine. The first six of the Class were built by BP in 1892, the final two, Works Nos 4309 and 4310, running numbers A8 and A9, in 1902, and this plate is from one of the final two. These were rebuilt with Belpaire boilers between 1927 and 1932 and withdrawn in 1950. All were sold for scrap in 1956 except No A4, now preserved at the Don River Railway at Devonport. Cast brass, 10"x5¾", cleaned and the front repainted. £350-500 - Sold for £.

Lot 325 A nameplate, RALPH BROCKLEBANK, LNWR Co., CREWE WORKS, MAY 1913, from a London & North Western Railway Claughton Class 4-6-0 No 1159 which became LMS No 5906 and was withdrawn in February 1937. It was named in July 1913 after a Liverpool area Director (1882-1895) of the LNWR, a shipping magnate who was a partner in Brocklebank Line, the famous shipping company operating out of Liverpool. Engraved brass, length 73¼", lightly polished. £7000-9000 - Sold for £8800.

Lot 326 A shedplate 52A Gateshead (1949 to June 1965 for steam, May 1988 totally). This ex NER shed used these BRASS codes on its allocation of diesel locos, mainly Class 46 Peaks and the Class 55 Deltics. Lot 327 A single line key token, PENRITH No. 1 CABIN-REDHILLS, (chromed steel), the first section of the Cockermouth, Keswick & Penrith route, the eastern section of the route closing in 1972. The spur from Redhills to Eamont Junction, (which provided a direct route south from the CKPR line), closed in 1936. Redhill box was later closed and the section lengthened to become Penrith-Blencow. £200-300 - Sold for £220 to commission or postal bidder number 782.

Lot 328 A GWR cabside numberplate, 2291, from a 2251 Class 0-6-0 built at Swindon in February 1938. Allocated to Carmarthen by January 1948, it spent most of its BR days at Gloucester and Swindon, moving briefly at the end to Worcester from where it was withdrawn on 28 September 1964 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Great Bridge on 11 January 1965. Cast iron, the front repainted. £400-600 - Sold for £400.

Lot 329 Original artwork, DURHAM, by Kenneth Steel, produced for a BR quad royal poster. A dramatic view of the Castle, Cathedral and River bridge by one of the most famous poster artists who produced numerous works for the LNER and British Railways. Pen and ink, 14½"x12", framed and mounted, overall 23½"x22. £250-400 - Sold for £440.

Lot 330 A nameplate NUTTALL, from a standard gauge 0-6-0ST built by Hunslet, works number 1685, in 1931, which went new to the contractors John Mowlem & Co Ltd, for use on the King George V Graving Dock contract at Southampton between 1931 and 1935. The contract was a joint one between Mowlem and Edmund Nuttall & Sons and the locomotive's name recorded the latter's involvement. On completion of the contract the locomotive passed into Nuttall’s ownership and was used on a number of their contracts around the country. During the period 1939-1947 it was employed in works for the construction of Royal Ordnance Factories in England and Wales and also on loan to collieries in Yorkshire. In 1948 it was sold to the National Coal Board, Walsall Wood Colliery, Staffordshire. It subsequently worked at a number of other collieries in the area before transfer to Lea Hall Colliery, Rugeley, where it was scrapped in August 1966. Lot 332 A worksplate, ROBERT STEPHENSON & HAWTHORNS, 7575, 1950, from a (GWR) 9400 Class 0-6-0PT No 9438 allocated new to Banbury on 7 February 1951. It moved in October 1954 to Gloucester from where it was withdrawn on 15 June 1959 after a working life of only nine years and sold for scrap to Woodham Bros at Barry on 23 November 1960. Cast brass, 13"x8½", the front repainted. £200-300 - Sold for £360 to commission or postal bidder number 926.

Lot 333 A 3½" gauge Fowler 4P, 2-6-4 Tank Locomotive, LMS maroon lined yellow and black with 2305 to bunker sides. Coal fired, twin cylinders, copper boiler with pressure gauge to 150, regulator, screw reverser, sight glass with blow down valve. The bunker has water tank with hand feed & space for coal. The cab roof is removable, as is the centre part of the cab rear to aid driving. Twin oil reservoirs, (these are dry) to front running plates, (one clip on cover is missing) and axel driven pump. The firebox and grate are clean, as are the smokebox interior and tubes, showing no signs of use, so despite outward appearances the loco has probably not been used. Usual equipment and adornments throughout the model, sprung buffers, drop link couplings, tank top oil boxes, brake gear, (non-operational) etc. A substantial and very well engineered model in lovely condition, length 36". The loco is accompanied by three LMS maroon coaches of wooden construction, each length 45". (4) £3000-4500 - Sold for £2500.

Lot 334 A GWR cabside numberplate, 4635, from a 8750 Class 0-6-0PT built at Swindon in December 1942. A long time Merthyr engine, it moved in May 1964 to Tyseley from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 16 July 1966 and sold for scrap to Garnham Harris at Chesterfield on 2 September 1966. Cast iron, in ex loco condition. £300-500 - Sold for £520 to commission or postal bidder number 3823.

Lot 336 A worksplate, No 2096, DONCASTER, 1951, from a (LMS) Class 4 2-6-0 No 43151 allocated new to Melton Constable on the Midland & Great Northern Joint line on 9 November 1951. Its later sheds were Stratford, Colwick, New England, Barrow Hill and Crewe South from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 18 February 1967 and sold for scrap to Cashmores at Great Bridge, entering their yard on 18 May 1967. Engraved brass, 12½"x6½", the back shows the wording, Serial Number Plate, which would have been transferred from the original wooden pattern when the plate was cast. £250-400 - Sold for £520 to commission or postal bidder number 941.

Lot 337 A Great Eastern Railway cast coat of arms attractively painted and presented within a free standing glazed display case, 26"x21", height 42". Formerly displayed in the General Manager's Office or Boardroom at Liverpool Street station. £250-400 - Sold for £250.

Lot 338 A shedplate, 8A Edge Hill (1935 to May 1968). This ex LNWR shed was home to over 120 locos during the 1950s, which included 12 Patriots, 11 Jubilees, 10 Royal Scots and 7 Princess Royals. Lot 340 An East African Railways nameplate, MOUNT NYIRU, 9203 FT, from an EAR Class 59 4-8-2+2-8-4 Beyer Garratt No 5921 built by Beyer Peacock, Works No 7652, in 1955. The Class just survived into 1980, by then part of Kenya Railways. The nameplate is accompanied by its brass cabside and front numberplates, the one 24½"x9", the other 17½"x6½", with some distortion, and brass EAR letters, each 8½" deep, mounted on a backboard, as attached to the bunker. Lot 342 A smokebox numberplate, 42071, from a (LMS) Class 4 2-6-4T built at Brighton and allocated new to Stewarts Lane on 6 November 1950. Its later Southern Region sheds were Ashford, Ramsgate, Brighton and Three Bridges before it moved in November 1959 to the London Midland Region at Bletchley and later Willesden, Oxley and Trafford Park from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 18 March 1967 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Great Bridge on 15 August 1967. Repainted; a shorter than standard plate as fitted at Brighton Works. £300-500 - Sold for £260.

Lot 345 A shedplate, 16D Mansfield (1935 to October 1955), then Annesley (February 1958 to September 1963), finally Nottingham (September 1963 to April 1965). Ex MR Mansfield had an allocation of just 25 locos during the 1950s, Ex GCR shed Annesley, formerly 38B, was transferred to the LMR, and its allocation of 70 locos carried this code. Finally, ex MR Nottingham, formerly 16A, had around 60 locos on its books in 1964. Ex loco condition. £100-200 - Sold for £240.

Lot 347 A worksplate ROBERT STEPHENSON & HAWTHORNS 7603 of 1949 from a standard gauge 0-6-0ST new in December 1949 to the National Coal Board for use on the South Shields, Marsden & Whitburn Colliery Railway in County Durham. It was fitted with Westinghouse brakes for the passenger service between Whitburn Colliery and Westoe Lane Station until these ceased in November 1953, when the Westinghouse brake gear was removed. The railway system was then incorporated into the NCB Harton Railways and the locomotive continued to work from Whitburn colliery, latterly numbered 6, until transferred to Boldon Colliery in July 1964. It made it final move in July 1968 to Derwenthaugh locomotive shed, Swalwell, where it was scrapped on site in October 1972 by D. Sep. Bowran. Cast brass, 13"x8½", the front repainted. £200-350 - Sold for £480.

Lot 349 A nameplate, THE KINGS ROYAL RIFLE CORPS, from the LMS Royal Scot Class 7P 4-6-0 No 6140, BR 46140, built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 23635, and allocated new to Crewe North on 8 October 1927. Originally named HECTOR after the 1839 Leicester & Swannington Railway engine, it was renamed on 12 May 1936 after the Regiment formed in 1755. Its later sheds included Edge Hill, Camden, Crewe North, Longsight, Kentish Town, Newton Heath and Carlisle Kingmoor from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 30 October 1965 and despatched for scrap to J. McWilliam at Shettleston on 4 March 1966. Cast brass, double line plate, length 56½", the front repainted. £12000-16000 - Sold.

Lot 351 A nameplate, GUINNION, and its matching numberplate, D2008, from a 0-6-0DM built by Hudswell Clarke, Works No D218, in 1956 and supplied new to the Port of Bristol Authority at Avonmouth Dock. In about December 1973 it went to Romford Scrap Metal Co and in April 1975 to BR Stratford for repair. The following month it went to Howard-Doris at Stromeferry and was out of use when they closed in 1979. It was purchased by Alastair Bruce of Kirkwall and went to John Laurie (Aberdeen) Ltd for scrap, ending its days by May 1983 in the BR sidings at Evanton. Both plates cast brass, the nameplate, 20"x4½", the cabside 17½"x6", the fronts repainted. (2) £300-500 - Sold for £230.

Lot 359 A worksplate, BEYER PEACOCK, REBUILT, 1920, from a South Eastern & Chatham Railway Class E 4-4-0 No 497 built at Ashford in 1907. It was rebuilt by Beyer Peacock in 1920 and re-classified to Class E1, becoming SR 1497 and BR 31497. Allocated to Stewarts Lane by January 1948, it spent most of its BR days at Bricklayers Arms from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 22 October 1960 and cut up at Ashford Works in the week ending 26 November 1960. Lot 367 A worksplate, WALKERS, MARYBOROUGH, 110, 1909, from a Queensland Government Railways 3'6" gauge Class PB15 4-6-0 No 465 delivered to QGR in August 1909. It was withdrawn in July 1962. Lot 368 A Webb & Thompson large train staff, GOLDEN GROVE-NANTGAREDIG, from the Llandeilo to Carmarthen route which closed in 1963. £200-350 - Sold for £150.

Lot 369 A smokebox numberplate, 63578, from a Great Central Railway Class 8K 2-8-0 No 1231 built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 19887, in November 1912, which became LNER O4 Class No 6231. In October 1945 it was rebuilt as an O1 and was renumbered 3578 in 1946, becoming BR 63578. Allocated to Gorton by January 1948, it moved in July 1950 to Annesley where it spent the remainder of its working life until withdrawal on 17 November 1962, for much of this time working the famous fast freights to Woodford Halse, nicknamed windcutters, until displaced by BR Standard 2-10-0s in 1957. It was subsequently scrapped although no reliable disposal details are recorded. Ex loco condition. £300-500 - Sold for £500.

Lot 372 A worksplate ENGLISH ELECTRIC/VF 3318/817 1963, from Class 37 D6843, later 37143 and 37800. New to Cardiff Canton in May 1963; it was renumbered 37800 and named GLO CYMRU in September 1986 at Aberthaw Power station. This replacement plate was fitted at Crewe Works in 1964 when one cab was completely rebuilt following major collision damage. The loco is now owned by Europhenix and on hire to ROG at Leicester. Chromed cast brass, 10"x4 1/2", ex loco condition. The corners square as opposed to the original on which they were rounded. £400-600 - Sold for £.

Lot 373 A BR(Sc) totem sign, LINLITHGOW, (f/f), from the Edinburgh to Glasgow main line. Loss of colour and shine, a crease repair to the right. £250-400 - Sold for £340.

Lot 374 A shedplate 21D Stratford upon Avon (1935 to February 1953), then Aston (June 1960 to September 1963). The ex SMJR shed at Stratford had just 8 loco when it lost this code. Ex LNWR shed Aston had 40 locos when using this code. The front repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £420.

Lot 375 A signal box nameboard, BIGGAR, from the Peebles to Symington route. The station closed in 1950, freight remaining until 1966. Cast letters on wood. £250-400 - Sold for £440.

Lot 376 A worksplate, NOHAB, 1860, of 1931 is from a Turkish State Rlys (TCDD) standard gauge 2-8-0 No 45.029, one of a class of 62 locos based on an enlarged Prussian G8. Nohab (Nydqvist Och Holm Actie Bolaget) got a contract from the Turkish Government to supply most of the equipment for the line south from Sivas, built in the late 1920s, and the class worked there until withdrawal in the 1980s. Cast brass, 12"x6", the front lightly cleaned. £250-400 - Sold for £380.

Lot 377 A BR(W) Annets key, CHOLSEY EAST G.F.,(brass), used to access the Wallingford branch which was retained to serve Pauls Malt Sidings, the branch being operated as a siding from Cholsey. £100-200 - Sold for £80.

Lot 378 A GWR cabside numberplate, 7218, from a 7200 Class 2-8-2T rebuilt at Swindon in November 1934 with trailing axle and increased coal capacity from 4200 Class 2-8-0T No 5293 built at Swindon in October 1930. Allocated to Leamington by January 1948, its later sheds included Ebbw Junction, Oxford, Oxley and Banbury from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 5 September 1964 and despatched for scrap to George Cohen at Kettering on 14 November 1964. Lot 380 A shedplate 4A Shrewsbury (1935 to 1949), then Bletchley (1950 to March 1952). The ex LNWR shed at Shrewsbury had an allocation of 60 during this period while ex LNWR Bletchley also had 60 locos. Lot 383 A nameplate LIVERPOOL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE from DVT 82120. Named by Virgin Trains in 1996, the plates were removed when Pendolinos took over the West Coast services. The DVT is stored at Long Marston. 51½"x13½", ex loco condition. £300-500 - Sold for £300.

Lot 384 A worksplate, LMS BUILT 1884, ST ROLLOX. Locos built by the Caledonian Railway at St Rollox in 1884 were 171 Class 0-4-4T which became LMS 151xx, most withdrawn in the 1920s, the last in 1945, and 294 Class 0-6-0 Nos 349-54, all surviving into BR days numbered in the 572xx series. The likelihood is that this plate is from one of the six 0-6-0s built in 1884, so an early and rare plate. Lot 392 A smokebox numberplate, 3646, from a GWR 8750 Class 0-6-0PT built at Swindon in November 1939. Allocated to Old Oak Common by January 1948, it moved the following year to Tyseley and in 1955 to Banbury, returning in 1961 to Old Oak Common from where it was withdrawn on 8 June 1964 and cut up at Swindon Works in the four weeks ending 8 August 1964. Lot 393 A late 19th century Caledonian Railway 13", wall-mounted, pine-cased, weight-driven longcase regulator clock. Believed to have been used in Auchenmade Signal Box. Overall height: 57¾" pine case, outside stripped, with circular, forward-sliding hood with top hinged, glazed door (old glass). Trunk with full length panelled door (hinges replaced) and concave moulding to the top supporting the hood (one section replaced). A unique transfer key to hold four standard tokens which would be sent to the box at the opposite end of the section, correcting an imbalance of tokens between the two instruments. Lot 398 A shedplate 68E Carlisle Canal (October 1951 – February 1958). This ex NBR shed was 12B in early BR days, but was soon transferred to the ScR becoming 68E. During this period it had around 60 locos including those elusive A3s Sir Visto, Bayardo, Coronach and Flamingo. In 1958 it was returned to the LMR, briefly becoming 12D then 12C. Lot 399 An advertising display, HOLIDAYS ON WIRRAL PENINSULA, featuring views of West Kirby, the new popular resort. Framed, 41¾"x26", a little restoration top centre affecting the last three letters of the word Railway. £100-200 - Sold for £80.

Lot 400 A nameplate JOHN PEEL from Class 47 47813. Named at Bury St Edmunds station in October 2005; the plates were removed in August 2009. The loco is currently operational with ROG. Lot 401 A shedplate 52B Heaton (1949 to June 1963). This ex NER shed had a star studded allocation of 120 locos in the 1950s, which included 10 A3s, 3 A1s, 6 A2s, and the two long named V2s. The shed remained in use as a repair and storage facility for at least another 18 months after losing its allocation. Lot 405 A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, DARLINGTON, 65808, 1908, from a North Eastern Railway Class P3, LNER J27 Class, 0-6-0 No 1011 built in November 1908, renumbered 5808 in 1946, becoming BR 65808. A long time South Blyth engine, it was withdrawn from there on 15 March 1965 and sold for scrap to the nearby scrapyard, Hughes Bolckow. Lot 409 A worksplate (LONDON NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY) 1861, DONCASTER, 1934, from the LNER A$ Class 4-6-2 No 4496 built at Doncaster in September 1937 and originally named GOLDEN SHUTTLE. It was officially renamed DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER in a ceremony at Marylebone station on 27 September 1945 after the American Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe, later, of course, President of the USA. Allocated new to Doncaster, it soon moved to Kings Cross and spent almost all its working life either there or at Grantham, moving briefly at the very end to New England from where it was withdrawn on 20 July 1963 and presented to the American National Railroad Museum in Wisconsin where it resides today. Lot 411 A nameplate, STANFORD HALL, from the GWR 4900 Hall Class 4-6-0 No 5937 built at Swindon in July 1933. Allocated to Old Oak Common by January 1948, it moved in September 1953 to Carmarthen where it spent its remaining years apart from brief spells at Cardiff Canton and Cardiff East Dock from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 9 November 1963 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Newport on 18 September 1964. Lot 413 A worksplate GEC TRACTION LIMITED 5439 of 1977, from one of a batch of seven standard gauge 0-4-0 diesel-electric locomotives ordered by the British Steel Corporation, Scunthorpe Works, Lincolnshire for use on the Blast Furnace Highline system. The order was placed with GEC Traction Ltd, who subcontracted construction to Baguley-Drewry Ltd of Burton-on-Trent. This plate is from the sixth locomotive in the batch, GECT 5439 and Baguley-Drewry 3739, originally numbered 6. The works is currently owned by Tata Steel Europe and this locomotive is still on site. Locos built by the LMS at Crewe in 1933 were Class 5 2-6-0 Nos 2945-57/60/63 which became BR 42945-57/60/63, Class 6P Patriot 4-6-0 Nos 5517-9/23/24/29-32/36-41 which became BR 45517-9/23/24/29-32/36-41 and the first two Princess Royal Class 8P 4-6-2 Nos 6200/1 which became BR 46200/1, so a good chance this plate is from a named loco. Lot 420 A smokebox numberplate, 47235, from a Midland Railway Class 3F 0-6-0T No 2756 built by Vulcan Foundry, Works No 1788, in 1902. It was renumbered 1935 in 1907, retaining this number in early LMS days. Renumbered by the LMS to 2735 in 1934, it became BR 47235. Allocated to Bromsgrove by January 1935, its later sheds included Grimesthorpe and Walton from where it was withdrawn on 10 October 1962 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Great Bridge on 17 September 1963. When the ex GWR/LNWR joint shed at Shrewsbury was transferred from the WR (formerly 84G and 89A), the LM region adorned its allocation of around 50 locos with this code. It was named when built after Gunton Hall, south of Cromer, Norfolk, once the residence of Baron Suffield but now converted into individual dwellings. Allocated to Cambridge by January 1948 and later Stratford and Colchester, returning towards the end to Cambridge from where it was withdrawn on 14 March 1960 and cut up at Stratford Works. Lot 446 A shedplate 63A Perth (1949 to May 1967). This extensive ex CR shed known as Perth South was home to 140 locos in the early 1950s. By 1965 this was reduced to just 30. This and several other Class 15F and 23 engines were named after various South African cities and towns in accordance with an instruction from the then Minister of Transport. Lot 476 A shedplate 56F Low Moor (September 1956 to October 1967). This ex L&Y shed, formerly 25F in LMS and early BR days, was transferred to the NER and housed over 70 locos, most notable being 3 B1 Antelopes and a solitary B1 Director. The front repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £200.

Lot 477 A North British Railways "B" Class 0-6-0 (later J35) 0 gauge loco and tender by Majestic Models. Built, painted & lined to a high standard in NBR black, lined yellow livery. Lot 490 A shed plate, 75A Brighton (1950 and closed to steam June 1964). This ex LBSCR shed had a 1950s allocation of around 75 locos, most notable being the Brighton Atlantics and a large number of the Schools 4-4-0s. A handful of West Country Pacifics were also maintained here. The front repainted, the back marked with the BR(S) Eastleigh triangle. £100-200 - Sold for £210.

Lot 491 A London Brighton & South Coast Railway three aspect handlamp with steel plates P WAY DEPT/ENGRS DEPT, E CROYDON and a large embossed brass plate, LM Co. SOLE OWNERS, RIDDLES RAILWAY LAMPS, LEONARD ST, CITY ROAD LONDON. The top and body each stamped LB&SCR. The blue glass absent otherwise complete with interior, S(B)R vessel, restored. £150-300 - Sold for £300 to commission or postal bidder number 4729.

Lot 492 A Southern Railway doorplate, NO EXIT. Enamel, 18"x6", minor chips neatly restored at the right. £100-200 - Sold for £350.

Lot 493 A worksplate, NORTH BRITISH LOCOMOTIVE Co, 25050, 1943, from a War Department Austerity 2-8-0 built in July 1943 to Ministry of Supply order, WD No 7179, later 77179. Loaned new to the LNER, it was allocated to Thornton Junction, returning to the WD in December 1944, when it was stored until purchased by BR in December 1949, becoming No 90163. Its BR sheds included Accrington, Wakefield, Warrington Dallam, Belle Vue and Newton Heath from where it was withdrawn on 29 December 1962 and cut up at Crewe Works by 4 October 1963. Cast white brass, 13¾"x5½", in ex loco condition. £150-300 - Sold for £320 to commission or postal bidder number 2994.

Lot 494 A Highland Railway silver plated sugar bowl by Mappin & Webb, 3¾" tall, the side marked with the belted garter motif. £100-200 - Sold for £110.

Lot 495 A BR(S) signal box diagram, GEORGEHAM GATES, 1958 from the Ilfracombe route, 31¼"x21¼", framed. The box was between Braunton and Mortehoe and closed in 1971. £100-200 - Sold for £290.

Lot 497 A pair of worksplates, JOHN FOWLER & Co. (LEEDS) LTD 15218 and 15219, from a pair of Fowler Class BB1 16nhp steam compound ploughing engines built in 1918, registration numbers KE 3175 and KE 3167, and which always worked together in tandem. Both are preserved and were at one time recorded as owned by a Mr Neil Melhuish. Each engraved brass, 9¾"x5", in ex engine condition. (2) £100-200 - Sold for £560.
