Lot 8 Worksplates (Steam): LNER 2607 Rebuilt Stratford 1928 (62607).
A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY 2607 REBUILT STRATFORD WORKS 1928, from a Great Eastern Railway D56 Class 4-4-0 No 1796 built at Stratford in July 1911 which became LNER D15 Class No 8796 in 1924. Rebuilt and re-classified to D16/1 in December 1928 and further rebuilt and re-classified to D16/3 in December 1946 and the same month renumbered 2607, becoming BR 62607. Allocated to Cambridge by January 1946, it had spells at South Lynn and Bury St Edmunds before finishing its days back at Cambridge from where it was withdrawn on 28 November 1955. It was cut up at Stratford Works. The Class were generally known as Clauds after the first of the class named Claud Hamilton. Lot 12 Cabside Numberplates: SAR 1515, 12.
A South African Railways cabside numberplate, 1515, from a 3ft 6ins gauge Class 12 4-8-2 built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 20817, in 1915. The class was the first new design originating from the SAR after its formation and was designed for goods traffic, mainly coal trains. All were withdrawn during the 1980s. Lot 19 Shedplates: 2F.
A shedplate 2F Coventry 1935 to July 1950), Market Harborough (October 1955 to February 1958), then Woodford Halse ( February 1958 to September 1963), finally Bescot (September 1963 and closed to steam March 1966). The ex LNWR shed at Coventry had just 12 loco while Market Harborough had only 6 locos. Ex GCR Woodford Halse had 50 during the period it used this code. Finally ex LNWR shed Bescot had over 60 locos in its care, and a few Class 08 shunters also carried this code. The front repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £150 to bidder number 221

Lot 24 Nameplates: King Leodegrance.
A nameplate, KING LEODEGRANCE, from a BR Standard Class 5 4-6-0 No 73118 built at Doncaster in December 1955 and named on 28 February 1960 after the father of King Arthur's wife Queen Guinevere in Arthurian legend, a re-use of the name but not the nameplates of the King Arthur Class engine No 30739 withdrawn in May 1957. Allocated new on 1 December 1955 to Nine Elms where it spent most of its working life apart from spells at Eastleigh and Guildford from where it was withdrawn on 9 July 1967 and sold for scrap to Cashmores at Newport. Lot 26 Smokeboxes: 67601.
A smokebox numberplate, 67601, from a LNER V1 Class 2-6-2T No 2901 built at Doncaster, Works No 1746, in October 1930. It was renumbered 7601 in 1946 and became BR 67601. Always an Eastfield engine and one of a handful of the class not rebuilt as a V3, it was withdrawn from there on 22 January 1962 and cut up at Darlington Works. Lot 46 Worksplates (Steam): LNER, Built, 1944, SR (48724).
A worksplate, LNER, BUILT 1944, SR, from a Stanier Class 8F type 2-8-0 built to LNER order by the Southern Railway at Brighton in 1944 and loaned to the LNER, their Class O6 No 7670, renumbered 3119 in 1946 and 3519 in 1947. On transfer to the LMS in 1947 it was numbered 8724 and became BR 48724 the following year. Allocated to Wakefield in November 1947, its later sheds included Swansea Paxton Street, Shrewsbury, Bescot, Saltley, Oxley and Springs Branch from where it was withdrawn on 25 October 1967 and sold for scrap to J. Buttigieg at Newport. Cast brass, 10½"x6", the front repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £420 to bidder number 7865

A wagonplate, EATON RAILWAY, 56, 1896, from a goods wagon used on the 15" gauge 4½ mile long railway built in 1896 for the 1st Duke of Westminster to transport coal and other materials from sidings at Balderton station on the Shrewsbury-Chester line to the Duke's estate at Eaton Hall in Cheshire. It closed in 1946 but was reinstated as a tourist attraction in 1996. Cast brass, 6¼"x4¼", fine original condition. £150-300 - Sold for £640 to bidder number 2991

A worksplate, ANDREW BARCLAY, 967, 1903, from a standard gauge 0-4-0ST which went new to W. R. Cunis Ltd, for use at their Plumstead rubbish shoot, London. Transferred around 1934 to the company's rubbish shoot at Aveley, Essex, where it was numbered 1. Transferred to their Woolwich Wharf, London in July 1945, returning to Aveley by September 1948. Scrapped there around March 1967. Cast brass, 17¾"x11¾", the front repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £300 to bidder number 8405

A bridgeplate, BR(E), 57A, W&C FRENCH CONSTRUCTION, oval cast iron, 17½"x12", with double raised border, the front repainted. W&C French were a firm of civil engineers specialising in road and motorway construction, including the A12, M11. This plate is believed to be from an overbridge built by the company, which produced its own number plates as part of the BR specification. £50-80 - This item was unsold.

A builders plate, SHEEEPBRIDGE COAL & IRON CO LTD, CHESTERFIELD. The Company manufactured a variety of engineering equipment as well as operating a wagon repair facility. They also rebuilt a few locomotives but plates fitted to those are usually worded accordingly and dated. This plate is from an unknown item of equipment which they built. A worksplate, LMS BUILT DERBY 1928, from a LMS Class 2P 4-4-0 No 567 which became BR 40567. It spent its early years at Holbeck and its BR days at Manningham, Crewe North and Kentish Town from where it was withdrawn on 20 August 1959 and sold for scrap to T.W. Ward at Beighton.
