During this period it was home to 7 Castles 7 Saints, 4 Bulldogs, 6 Stars and 12 Halls. In its final year its most famous loco was the last active County, 1011 County of Chester. This ex NBR shed housed around 100 locos throughout the 1950s., with the exotic 4-4-0s of classes D11, D29, D30, D34 and D49 being the celebrities. 1960 saw 5 K4s added, but by 1966 only 30 locos were allocated. Lot 23 Nameplates: Bideford.
A nameplate, BIDEFORD, together with a WEST COUNTRY CLASS scroll, from a Southern Railway West Country Class 4-6-2 light pacific No 21C119 built at Brighton in December 1945, becoming BR 34019 and retaining its original streamlined casing to the end. Allocated new to Exmouth Junction and later Nine Elms, Brighton, Feltham, Eastleigh and finally back to Nine Elms from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 18 March 1967 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Newport on 11 September 1967. A worksplate, (in Cyrillic script) 3AB0 (illegible), 2678, 1951, from a Skoda built 5ft gauge 0-10-0 of class Er, No 772.37 for SZD, (Russian State Railways), one of the world's most widely built and numerous class of steam engine. A worksplate MANNING, WARDLE 1503 of 1900 from a standard gauge 0-6-0 saddle tank, one of two supplied new to Richard Evans & Co Ltd for use on the Haydock Collieries system in Lancashire. Named EARLSTOWN. Taken over by the National Coal Board in 1947 and scrapped at Haydock by José K. Holt & Gordon Ltd in June 1965. Lot 42 Signal Box Nameboards: Swinton, NER.
A North Eastern Railway signal box nameboard, SWINTON. The crossing was situated between Malton and Amotherby on the route to Gilling and Pilmoor, the eastern part of the line closing to passengers in 1930 and freight in 1964. Enamel, 23"x7", with the manufacturer's name, Patent Enamel Co Ltd B'ham, at the base. Excellent colour and shine, a chip repair at the top centre fixing, otherwise lovely condition. Displayed on a chamfered backboard of the correct proportions to those original used. Overall 25¼"x8¼". £500-800 - This item was unsold.

A nameplate, WESTOL HALL, from a (GWR) 6959 Modified Hall Class 4-6-0 No 7925 built at Swindon in October 1950 and named after a large farm eight miles east of Worcester which nowadays hosts autograss race meetings. Allocated new to Penzance where it spent nine years and later Cardiff Canton, Cardiff East Dock, Ebbw Junction and Oxford from where it was withdrawn on 31 December 1965 and sold for scrap to Cashmores at Newport. £2500-4000 - Sold for £3,000 to bidder number 7239

Lot 59 Shedplates: 12A.
A shedplate 12A Carlisle Kingmoor (1935 to 1949 and February 1958 to January 1968), also Carlisle Upperby (1950 to February 1958). The ex CR shed at Kingmoor used this code twice. During its second spell as a LMR shed it had 120 locos allocated. Patriots, Royal Scots, Princess Royals, Coronations, Clans, and no fewer than 51 out of 55 Britannias were allocated here during this period. Ex LNWR shed Carlisle Upperby had around 80 locos in the 1950s, and it too had a star studded cast of Patriots, Jubilees, Royal Scots and Coronations. Lot 73 Worksplates (Diesel): Thomas Hill, Kilnhurst, 276V, 1977.
A worksplate, ROLLS-ROYCE THOS HILL KILNHURST 276V of 1977 from a standard gauge 0-4-0 diesel-hydraulic locomotive new to British Leyland for use at their Cofton Hackett works, Longbridge, named COFTON and later LONGBRIDGE. To Longbridge works 1984 and returned 1989. It later passed into the hands of contractors and is currently owned by Ed. Murray & Sons Ltd. of Hartlepool as a hire locomotive working for Cobra (Middlesbrough) Ltd. on Teesside. Cast brass, 8"x3½", ex loco condition. £80-120 - Sold for £100 to bidder number 1790

Lot 74 Targets: Sidley.
A Southern Railway target sign, SIDLEY, a station on the Bexhill West branch which closed in 1964. Loss of shine and chipping close to the top left centre fixing, the lettering unaffected. £400-600 - Sold for £400 to bidder number 2616

Lot 75 Shedplates: 31B.
A shedplate 31B March (1949 to December 1963 for steam). This ex GER shed was home to 160 locos in the 1950s including 10 B17 Sandringhams. Shortly before closure it was also home to 14 Britannias. Lot 78 Tenderplates: M. No.7103, 1952 (46503).
A tenderplate, M. No 7103, 1952, from a 3000 Gallons tender with inset bunker coupled new with (LMS) Class 2 2-6-0 No 46503 built at Swindon and allocated new on 18 November 1952 to Oswestry where it spent most of its working life before moving to Willesden in 1963 and later Springs Branch, Speke Junction and Northwich from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 6 May 1967 and sold for scrap to Cashmores at Great Bridge. Lot 80 Worksplates (Steam): Beyer Peacock 1927.
A worksplate, BEYER PEACOCK, 1927, from a Ceylon Government Railways 5ft 6ins gauge Incline Class 4-6-0, later Class B1, BP Works No 6398, which entered traffic in 1928 as CGR No 4 and later named SIR EDWARD STUBBS after the Governor of Ceylon from 1933 to 1937. Withdrawn in 1969. The most prolific passenger class in Ceylon, they worked expresses and final locals before being displaced by diesels. Ex loco condition with No 4 painted on the back and originally from the collection of the late Hugh Ballantyne. Cast brass, 9¾"x5½", ex loco condition. £150-300 - Sold for £150 to bidder number 1942
