Lot 1 A BR(NE) trespass notice, BRITISH RAILWAYS, NO ADMISSION EXCEPT ON BUSINESS, TRESPASSERS WILL BE PROSECUTED, RAILWAY EXECUTIVE. Enamel, 18"x15", superb condition. £300-500 - Sold for £560 to commission or postal bidder number 3997.

Lot 2 A single line key token, THAME-PRINCES RISBOROUGH NORTH, (cast steel/brass), from the Oxford to Princes Risborough line which closed as a through route in 1963. £150-300 - Sold for £640.

Lot 3 A Great Central Railway three aspect sliding knob handlamp, with a large brass plate GCR 27730 IMMINGHAM, the number also stamped on the body. The lamp is complete with its interior fittings and has been repainted. £250-400 - Sold for £380.

Lot 4 A Tyers No.6 single line tablet, HEACHAM-HUNSTANTON, (brass/steel), from the Kings Lynn to Hunstanton route which closed in 1969. £250-400 - Sold for £380.

Lot 5 A BR(Sc) totem sign, MARYHILL CENTRAL, (f/f), from the Partick to Rutherglen route. The station closed in 1964. The first example to be offered for sale at auction. Edge chips restored. £500-800 - Sold for £500 to commission or postal bidder number 1094.

Lot 6 A Great Eastern Railway leaflet rack, HARWICH FOR THE CONTINENT, wooden, 16"x13", depth 5", in excellent original condition. £250-400 - Sold for £380 to commission or postal bidder number 2521.

Lot 7 A GWR signal box shelf plate, FROM COTON HILL SOUTH BOX MAIN LINE, from a box just north of Shrewsbury on the route to Chester. Engraved brass, 4¾"x1½". £100-200 - Sold for £290.

Lot 8 A signal box nameboard, SHAP SUMMIT, from the Lancaster to Carlisle section of the West Coast Main Line. The original style of sign dates to before the BR enamel nameboards were fitted. Cast letters on wood, length 104½", original condition with a little loss at lower left end. £500-800 - Sold for £1050 to commission or postal bidder number 2521.

Lot 9 A Midland Railway belt with white metal buckle with prominent wyvern and company name. £80-120 - Sold for £190.

Lot 10 A worksplate, No 2163, DARLINGTON, 1951, from a (LMS) Class 2 2-6-0 No 46471 built at Darlington and allocated new to Kirkby Stephen on 18 July 1951 and later West Auckland, Northallerton, North Blyth, Gateshead and Tweedmouth from where it was withdrawn on 18 October 1962 and cut up at Crewe Works. Engraved brass, 12¼"x6¼", in ex loco condition. £300-500 - Sold for £720.

Lot 11 A LNWR Crewe Refreshment Room silver plated half pint tankard, by Elkington, 4" tall, the side marked ½ pint with GR excise stamp. £80-120 - Sold for £170 to commission or postal bidder number 8947.

Lot 12 A BR(E) doorplate, STATION MANAGER, (f/f). Enamel, 18"x6", a small rim chip and minor marks. £200-350 - Sold for £640 to commission or postal bidder number 1249.

Lot 13 A Webb and Thompson large train staff, SHANTONA JUNCTION-COOTEHILL, from the short branch which ran south from the Clones to Dundalk route. The branch closed in 1947. £200-350 - Sold for £240 to commission or postal bidder number 9150.

Lot 14 A worksplate, BEYER PEACOCK, REBUILT, 1920, from a South Eastern & Chatham Railway E Class 4-4-0 No 166 built at Ashford in July 1907, becoming SR 1166. In December 1920 it was re-boilered, the rebuilding referred to on the plate, and became BR 31166. Allocated to Bricklayers Arms by January 1948 and later Ramsgate, Faversham and Tonbridge from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 21 May 1955 and cut up at Ashford Works in the week ending 23 July 1955. Cast brass, 10"x5¾", the front repainted, the back stamped 1166. £200-350 - Sold for £210.

Lot 15 A London, Brighton and South Coast Railway three aspect handlamp plated BRIGHTON P. WAY and with its large embossed brass company nameplate. The lamp is complete with interior fittings, small brass plate, B (Brighton), and has been repainted. The owner's nameplate F Bravery is on the top and body. £200-350 - Sold for £720 to commission or postal bidder number 4951.

Lot 16 A wagonplate, OSWESTRY & NEWTOWN RAILWAY COMPANY. Cast iron, 9¾"x5½", the front repainted. £200-350 - Sold for £200.

Lot 17 A Southern Railway Charing Cross Hotel china milk jug, by Royal Doulton. Overall height 3½". £80-120 - Sold for £20.

Lot 18 A Caledonian Railway signal instrument plate, NEWHAVEN JUN, from the route between Edinburgh Princes Street and Leith, the junction for North Leith and Leith Docks, closed in 1967. Cast brass, with engraved name, 5½"x1¾". £100-200 - Sold for £300.

Lot 19 A smokebox numberplate, 44349, from a LMS Class 4F 0-6-0 No 4349 built by Kerr Stuart, Works No 4377, in 1927. Allocated to Longsight by January 1935, it later spent most of its BR days there with spells at Alsager, Stoke and Warrington Dallam from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 3 July 1965 and sold for scrap to T.W. Ward at Killamarsh. Repainted. £300-500 - Sold for £250.

Lot 20 A signal box nameboard, FOUR OAKS, (f/f), from the Birmingham New Street to Lichfield route. Enamel, 72"x12", a few edge chips. £250-400 - Sold for £580.

Lot 21 A cash bag, GWR CRICCIETH, from the Cambrian Coast route. Leather with brass plate. £100-200 - Sold for £580.

Lot 22 A carriage print, HIGH FORCE, TEESDALE, by E.W. Haslehurst, R.I., from the LNER pre-war series. £100-200 - Sold for £190 to commission or postal bidder number 4059.

Lot 23 A worksplate, LMS, BUILT 1926, HORWICH, from a LMS Class 5 2-6-0 No 13005 which was renumbered 2705 in 1934 and became BR 42705. Allocated to Rose Grove by January 1935 and later Newton Heath, Bolton, Gorton and Birkenhead from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 26 December 1964 and despatched for scrap to T.W. Ward at Beighton on 16 March 1965. Cast brass, 10½"x6", the front repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £450 to commission or postal bidder number 3108.

Lot 24 A Great Central Railway china dinner plate, by Copelands, with exquisite blue and gold design to the border and prominent coat of arms. 9" diameter, a half moon shape hairline crack in the centre. £80-120 - Sold for £80.

Lot 25 A worksplate, MARSHALL SONS & CO, GAINSBOROUGH, No 14873. The works number for this plate dates this to June 1887, but there is no record for it in the Marshall list which is not uncommon as, in this period, they made a lot of equipment other than traction engines. It is most likely from a portable steam engine or a stationary engine or boiler built for export of which Marshalls made tens of thousands. Engraved brass, 5¾"x3½", the front lightly polished. £100-200 - Sold for £540.

Lot 26 A Great Central Railway Dining Car silver plated biscuit barrel, by Walker and Hall, 8" tall, with prominent coat of arms. £300-500 - Sold for £420 to commission or postal bidder number 3037.

Lot 27 A BR(NE) doorplate, LEFT LUGGAGE, (flangeless). Enamel, 18"x3½", a little chipping at the right end fixing. £300-500 - Sold for £620 to commission or postal bidder number 2373.

Lot 28 A Tyers No. 6 single line tablet, PROSPECT HILL-BOG HALL, (fibre), from the route between Whitby Town and West Cliff, a short, steeply graded section linking the Esk Valley Line with the coastal route, closed in 1965. £150-300 - Sold for £260.

Lot 29 A worksplate, SHARP STEWART, 4314, 1897, from a South Eastern Railway O Class 0-6-0 No 437 built in October 1897, becoming part of the South Eastern & Chatham Railway in January 1899. Rebuilt and re-classified to O1 Class in March 1914, it became SR 1437 and BR 31437. Just surviving into BR service, it was withdrawn from Tonbridge in the week ending 23 October 1948 and cut up at Ashford Works. Cast brass, 9¾"x6", the front repainted. £200-350 - Sold for £230.

Lot 30 A Great Eastern Railway Tyers one wire two position block instrument complete with all reminder flaps & plungers, mahogany case, 18½" tall, an impressive instrument in ex service condition. £250-400 - Sold for £400.

Lot 31 A BR(S) totem sign, BOURNEMOUTH WEST, (f/f), from the town's terminus station which closed in 1965. Minor edge chips on the white rim. £700-1000 - Sold for £1350.

Lot 32 A Tyers No. 6 single line tablet, INVERAMSAY-ROTHIENORMAN, (brass/steel), from the Inveramsay to Macduff branch which closed to passengers in 1951 and to freight in 1966. £400-600 - Sold for £1050.

Lot 33 A wagonplate, METROPOLITAN RAILWAY CARRIAGE & WAGON CO, SALTLEY WORKS, BIRMINGHAM, from a North Wales Narrow Gauge Railway vehicle. Cast iron, 6¾"x4", the front repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £240.

Lot 34 A GWR cabside numberplate, 6969, from a 6959 Modified Hall Class 4-6-0 built at Swindon in September 1944 and named WRAYSBURY HALL in June 1947 after a country house at Staines in Middlesex, now the Clarendon Wraysbury Hall Hotel. Allocated to Cardiff Canton by January 1948, it moved in February 1958 to Didcot from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 20 February 1965 and cut up at Swindon Works. Cast brass, the front repainted. £1200-1500 - Sold for £1000.

Lot 35 A company nameplate, MID-WALES RAILWAY, OFFICES, probably from the company's offices at Llanidloes. Engraved brass, 32½"x8", lightly polished. £1000-1500 - Sold for £1000.

Lot 36 A nameplate, ALWILDA, cast brass, 30½" long, the front repainted, together with its matching worksplate, PECKETT 798, 1899, engraved brass, 10¾"x7¼", from a Peckett Class M4 0-4-0ST new to S. Pearson & Son, Contractors, for construction of the Banbury & Lockwood reservoirs, Walthamstow. By March 1901 it was at Wouldham Cement Co, Grays, Essex which became part of British Portland Cement Manufacturers in 1911, their No 7. Sold for scrap to W. Rice of Slades Green, Kent in about July 1961. (2) £800-1200 - Sold for £1400 to commission or postal bidder number 3568.

Lot 37 A Midland Railway signal lever plate, DISTANT FROM REDDITCH, probably from Barnt Green Single Line Junction box. Early hand engraved brass, 4"x5". £80-120 - Sold for £220.

Lot 38 A North Eastern Railway Tyer & Co pattern distant signal repeater in mahogany case 8" tall, ex service condition. £100-200 - Sold for £170.

Lot 39 A Great Eastern Railway signal box nameboard, LONG MELFORD JUNCTION BOX, from the Sudbury to Haverhill route, the junction for Bury St Edmunds. The box closed in 1967. Enamel, length 71½", some restoration, a chip on the 'T' of the word JUNCTION. £400-600 - Sold for £1300 to commission or postal bidder number 2521.

Lot 40 A shedplate 14C St. Albans (1935 to January 1960), then Bedford Diesel Depot (September 1963 to the end of 1964). The ex MR shed at St Albans was home to around 20 locos in BR days. Bedford diesel depot used the code but its allocation of diesel railcars were unlikely to have carried plates. The front repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £220.

Lot 41 A signal box nameboard, BRAUNSTON CROSSING. The box was just south east of Oakham station on the Leicester to Peterborough route. The wooden board was replaced with a BR(M) enamel sign in the 1950s. Wood with cast letters, 55½"x19', original condition. £250-400 - Sold for £700.

Lot 42 A cabside numberplate, SOUTHERN RAILWAY B 207, from a London Brighton & South Coast Railway B2 Class 4-4-0 No 207 built at Brighton in June 1897 and named BRUNEL. It was rebuilt with a larger boiler in July 1909 and re-classified to B2X class, becoming SR B207, by which time it had lost its name. It was withdrawn by the SR in October 1931 and its tender was rebuilt at Ashford Works as a brake van No 55180 for use on the Folkestone Harbour branch. Cast brass, 13½"x7½", in ex loco condition. £1000-1500 - Sold for £900.

Lot 43 An LNWR three aspect handlamp, LNWR ABERGAVENNY TRAFFIC stamped on the side. The lamp is from Abergavenny Brecon Road Station, closed in 1958, on the route from Merthyr and Tredegar. Complete with interior fittings and in original condition. £150-300 - Sold for £380 to commission or postal bidder number 2110.

Lot 44 A BR(Sc) totem sign, GREENOCK WEST, (f/f). The station is between Gourock and Greenock Central on the south bank of the Clyde. Minor rim chips restored, otherwise excellent. £600-900 - Sold for £880.

Lot 45 A wagonplate, MADRAS RAILWAY CO, 1888, STABLEFORD & CO, COALVILLE. Cast iron, 9"x5¾", the front repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £210.

Lot 46 A signal box nameboard, DERSINGHAM, from the Kings Lynn to Hunstanton route which closed in 1969. Cast letters on wood, length 68¾", the front repainted. £400-600 - Sold for £850.

Lot 47 A cabside numberplate and matching plate from Class 31, 31 430 SISTER DORA. Named at Bescot depot on 9 October 1988 by the Vice Chairman of Walsall Heath Authority to commemorate the work of Dorothy Windlow Pattison (1832 to 1878), a local nurse who administered to the sick during a smallpox epidemic in the West Midlands. She was affectionately known as Sister Dora. The plates were removed in February 1996. Each cast brass, the oval plate 10¼"x6", ex loco condition, the rectangular plate 22"x6½", the front repainted. £300-500 - Sold for £1150.

Lot 48 A Midland Railway signal light in/out indicator with on switch, Midland Rly test label on underside dated 1911, mahogany case, 7½" tall, in fine ex service condition. £150-300 - Sold for £340.

Lot 49 A nameplate, CITY OF WINCHESTER, from the GWR 3700 City Class 4-4-0 No 3441 built at Swindon in May 1903 and renumbered 3718 in 1912. One of ten locos named after cities served by the GWR, it was a sister engine of the preserved City of Truro. It was the first of its class to be withdrawn in October 1927, so a remarkable survivor. This is the right hand plate, the top of the beading pin-punched R. Totally ex loco condition, its narrower than standard splasher still has its original paint. £8000-12000 - Sold for £15500.

Lot 50 A Tyer & Co No 9 key token instrument, the later & lighter version with case handles, complete, ex service condition. £700-1000 - Sold for £1900 to commission or postal bidder number 8826.

Lot 51 A GWR signal box nameboard, SEVERN TUNNEL JC, UP HUMP YD CONTROL BOX. An unusual double line sign notable for its use of the word 'control' instead of 'signal'. Cast iron, 73"x15", the front repainted. £500-800 - Sold for £460.

Lot 52 A North British Railway three aspect handlamp, NBR, KELSO JUNCTION stamped on the side. Complete with interior fittings, repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £300 to commission or postal bidder number 7984.

Lot 53 A Tyers No. 6 single line tablet, HOLE-HALWILL, (brass/steel), from the North Devon and Cornwall Junction route from Torrington to Halwill which closed in 1966. £300-500 - Sold for £400.

Lot 54 A BR(Sc) totem sign, ESKBANK AND DALKEITH, (f/f), from the Waverley route which closed in 1969. Good colour though loss of shine. £800-1200 - Sold for £1200.

Lot 55 A worksplate, LMS BUILT 1944 HORWICH. Locos built at Horwich in 1944 were all LMS Class 8F 2-8-0 Nos 8338-81 which became BR 48338-81. Cast iron, 10¼"x6", in ex loco condition. £150-300 - Sold for £160.

Lot 56 A Great Eastern Railway cast iron cased bell, GER cast into top face of case, 10" tall, an unusual item, ex service condition. £100-200 - Sold for £150.

Lot 57 An LNER seat back plate, BELSES, from the Waverley route which closed in 1969. Cast iron, length 23¾", original condition. £300-500 - Sold for £560 to commission or postal bidder number 7984.

Lot 58 A worksplate, HUDSWELL CLARKE, 941 of 1911, from a standard gauge 0-6-0T which went new to the Manchester Ship Canal at Salford Docks, Manchester as their No 53 with the name SWEDEN. Scrapped in April 1966. Engraved brass, 13"x8¼", the front lightly polished with some service marks, the back marked 53 in script. £150-300 - Sold for £320.

Lot 59 A North Eastern Railway signal lever plate, 34, TO S & D PLATFORM PLUNGER, referring to the Stockton and Darlington line. Engraved brass, 3¼"x4¾". £100-200 - Sold for £540.

Lot 60 An LNWR inspection lamp with large brass plate LONDON & NORTH WESTERN RAILWAY, MAKERS, LOCOMOTIVE DEPARTMENT CREWE. The body and ceramic burner are marked LNWR. Repainted. £80-120 - Sold for £160.

Lot 61 A worksplate, LMS, BUILT 1931, CREWE. Locos built at Crewe in 1931 were Class 2P 4-4-0 Nos 636-60 which became BR 40636-60, Class 5 2-6-0 Nos 13225-34 which were renumbered 2925-34 and became BR 42925-34 and Class 7F 0-8-0 Nos 9603-32/34/5 which became BR 49603-32/4/5. Cast brass, 10½"x6", in ex loco condition. £150-300 - Sold for £110.

Lot 62 A Webb and Thompson large single line staff, BALLYWILLAN-FLOAT, from the section between Cavan and Inny Junction. £100-200 - Sold for £160 to commission or postal bidder number 7762.

Lot 63 A worksplate, HUDSWELL CLARKE, D 844, 1954, from a standard gauge 0-4-0 diesel-mechanical locomotive which went new to Guest, Keen & Nettlefords Ltd, Castle & Tremorfa Works, Cardiff, with the running number 396. Disposed of for scrap in 1973. Engraved brass, 12¾"x8", the front polished. £100-200 - Sold for £100.

Lot 64 A BR(Sc) totem sign, NAIRN, (f/f), from the Inverness to Aberdeen route. Several face chips repainted, loss of shine. £350-500 - Sold for £480 to commission or postal bidder number 8464.

Lot 65 A shedplate 74B Ramsgate (1950 to October 1958). This ex SR shed had a star studded allocation in the 1950s comprising 8 Schools, 5 West Countries and 11 Battle of Britains. It became 73G in October 1958, and closed to steam in June 1959. Ex loco condition. £200-300 - Sold for £200 to commission or postal bidder number 7829.

Lot 66 A single line key token, ROCHE-TREGOSS, (alloy), from the Par to Newquay branch. £150-300 - Sold for £330.

Lot 67 A Great North of Scotland Railway four aspect handlamp with a brass plate AUCHTERLESS and its GNSR embossed brass plate. The station was on the Macduff branch which closed in 1950. The lamp is in original condition. £200-350 - Sold for £340 to commission or postal bidder number 705.

Lot 68 A CITY AND SOUTH LONDON RAILWAY brass plaque from the company offices, 16"x18", curved to fit a pillar. £500-800 - Sold for £620.

Lot 69 A Tyer & Co Permissive non pegging instrument, traffolite plate Brewery Sidings, mahogany case 18½" tall, ex service condition. £80-120 - Sold for £300.

Lot 70 A BR(W) totem sign, BEDMINSTER, (f/f), the first station south of Bristol Temple Meads. Loss of shine and restoration to chipping in the upper panel. £400-600 - Sold for £420.

Lot 71 A Great Northern Railway slot repeater in brass case, original dial with slight loss of paint, ex service condition. £100-200 - Sold for £250 to commission or postal bidder number 4538.

Lot 72 A signal box nameboard, KIRKCALDY, from the Edinburgh to Perth route. Cast letters on wood, 97" long, the front repainted. £250-400 - Sold for £420 to commission or postal bidder number 1625.

Lot 73 A Webb and Thompson large train staff, BALLYSHANNON-BELLEEK, from the Bundoran Junction to Bundoran branch which closed in 1957. £200-350 - Sold for £420 to commission or postal bidder number 782.

Lot 74 A worksplate, LMS, REBUILT 1906, DERBY, from an unidentified ex Midland Railway loco rebuilt at Derby Works that year. Cast brass, 10½"x6", the front lightly cleaned. - Sold for £230 to commission or postal bidder number 8645.

Lot 75 A London and North Western Railway refreshment basket with an enamel plate, LNWR Co REFRESHMENT ROOM DEPT CREWE OR EUSTON. Wicker, 15½"x13½", depth 5". The basket contains two LNWR china dishes, an LNWR beer bottle and a copy of an article by the LNWR Society on refreshment baskets and their contents. £150-300 - Sold for £900.

Lot 76 A smokebox numberplate, 5400, from a GWR 5400 Class 0-6-0PT, the class leader numerically although not the first built, the prototype for the class being a rebuild of the earlier 2021 class No 2062 in August 1930 and given the number 5400. In June 1932 the prototype was dismantled and an entirely new loco built and numbered 5400. Allocated to Landore by January 1948 and later Goodwick, Carmarthen and Oswestry from where it was withdrawn on 22 April 1959 and cut up at Swindon Works in the week ending 20 June 1959. The front repainted. £300-500 - Sold for £480.

Lot 77 A BR(S) totem sign, KENLEY, (f/f), from the Purley to Caterham branch. Some staining and loss of shine to the right side. £300-500 - Sold for £380.

Lot 78 A London & South Western Railway home signal repeater, brass case, original face states Wrong Adjust between On & Off, 7" tall in ex service condition. £150-300 - Sold for £230.

Lot 79 A worksplate, NORTH BRITISH LOCOMOTIVE CO, 26158, 1947, from a LNER B1 Class 4-6-0 No 1257 built in November 1947 which became BR 61257. Allocated new to Neville Hill, where it spent over eleven years, before moving to Thornaby and West Hartlepool from where it was withdrawn on 4 October 1965 and sold for scrap to Hughes Bolckow at Blyth. Cast white brass, 13½"x5½", the front lightly cleaned. £150-300 - Sold for £510.

Lot 80 A Great Eastern Railway mirror, framed, with bevelled glass and company monogram, overall size 16"x18". £100-200 - Sold for £80.

Lot 81 A smokebox numberplate, 40163, from a LMS Class 3 2-6-2T No 163 built at Derby and allocated new to Huddersfield on 16 November 1937. Its later sheds were Burton, Nottingham, Bristol Barrow Road, Hellifield, Lower Darwen and Southport from where it was withdrawn on 18 November 1959 and sold for scrap to Central Wagon Co at Wigan. Ex loco condition. £300-500 - Sold for £460.

Lot 82 A fingerboard for a Manchester to Cardiff train, CREWE, WHITCHURCH, SHREWSBURY, HEREFORD, PONTYPOOL ROAD, NEWPORT, CARDIFF. Painted wood, length 59½", the metal end absent, the paintwork in original condition. £80-120 - Sold for £380.

Lot 83 A nameplate THE SURREY HILLS from Class 319 319013. This name was carried from May 1999 to August 2001; transferred to 319001 in September 2001 and then returned to 319013 in December 2012. Cast aluminium, length 42", in ex loco condition. £500-800 - Sold for £480.

Lot 84 A London South Western Railway brass signal box plunger with enamel ring Push to Release Up Windsor Plunger, fine ex service condition. £100-200 - Sold for £190.

Lot 85 A tenderplate, G.W.R, 2245, 3500 GALLONS, SWINDON, Cast iron, 8¼"x6", repainted. £200-350 - Sold for £160.

Lot 86 A GWR signal box shelf plate, ABERCYNON UP & DOWN LINE, from the Cardiff to Merthyr and Aberdare route. Engraved brass, 4¾"x1½". £100-200 - Sold for £580.

Lot 87 A depot plaque, YORKSHIRE ROSE, for Tinsley, cast aluminium, 17¼" square, the back marked 47 307. £150-300 - Sold for £270 to commission or postal bidder number 983.

Lot 88 A signalling key, DINGWALL No 2 GATES, (brass), from the Far North line to Wick and Thurso. £100-200 - Sold for £270 to commission or postal bidder number 1380.

Lot 89 A smokebox numberplate, 48712, from a Stanier type 8F 2-8-0 built to LNER order by the Southern Railway at Brighton in July 1944, becoming LNER O6 Class No 7658 and allocated to Heaton. It was renumbered 3107 in 1946 and 3507 in March 1947 and, on transfer to the LMS in October 1947, became their 8712 and BR 48712 the following year. It spent most of its working life at Buxton before moving in 1963 to Carnforth and later Rose Grove from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 10 June 1967 and sold for scrap to J. Lot 93 A GWR notice warning that those authorised to leave cycles in the works do so at their own risk, signed F.W. Hawksworth, Jan 1945, almost certainly from Swindon Works. The sign is stove enamelled, 10"x14½", with a few surface blemishes. £150-300 - Sold for £270.

Lot 94 A worksplate, ANDREW BARCLAY, 1741, 1921, from a 3ft 9½in gauge 0-4-0ST new in June 1921 to British Portland Cement Manufacturers Ltd, Johnson’s Branch works, Greenhithe, Kent, named GOLIATH. Rebuilt by Andrew Barclay in 1927 and converted to standard gauge and continued to work at Johnson’s Branch until transferred to Wouldham Works, Essex in April 1960. Scrapped on site there by W. Lot 96 A Tyers No 6 single line tablet, STANHOPE-WALSINGHAM, (fibre), from the Darlington to Wearhead branch which closed to passengers in 1952. The line to Eastgate, including this section, was retained for freight traffic. £80-120 - Sold for £120.

Lot 97 A South African Railways cabside numberplate, 1766, 14CRB, from a 3ft 6ins gauge Class 14C 4-8-2 built by the Montreal Locomotive Works, Works No 58642, in 1918. In the early 1930s some of the class including this one were re-balanced to enable them to work on branch lines and they were re-designated as Class 14CB, the B indicating branch line usage. After re-boilering it was again re-designated as Class 14CRB, the R indicating the rebuilding. The class were all withdrawn by 1983. Cast brass, 20½"x14½", the front centre cleaned but unpainted. £300-500 - Sold for £280.

Lot 98 A nameplate THE STAFFORDSHIRE REGIMENT (THE PRINCE OF WALES'S) from Class 45 D71, later 45049. Built at Crewe in November 1969; delivered to Crewe North and named without ceremony at Derby works in May 1966. Withdrawn from Tinsley in February 1988 and cut up by MC Processors in Glasgow in April 1989. The left-hand side plate, cast aluminium, complete with crest and backplate, 61" long, in ex loco condition. £10000-12000 - Sold for £11600.

Lot 100 A smokebox numberplate, 7818, from a GWR 7800 Manor Class 4-6-0 built at Swindon in January 1939 and named GRANVILLE MANOR after a 16th Century country house at Haddenham, Buckinghamshire, known locally as Grenville Manor. Allocated to Gloucester by January 1948 and later Oxley, Tyseley, Newton Abbot and Machynlleth with a final two years back at Tyseley from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 23 January 1965 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Great Bridge on 5 April 1965. Lot 108 A shedplate 65J Fort William (April 1955 to April 1960), then Stirling (April 1960 to June 1966). Fort William had an allocation of 17 locos during this time, numbering just 1 Loch and the famous MacCallin Mor. When Stirling adopted this code it had 30 locos, which had dwindled to just 9 Black Fives in its final year. Repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £150.

Lot 110 A smokebox numberplate, 90581, from a War Department Austerity 2-8-0 built by Vulcan Foundry, Works No 4942, in October 1943 to Ministry of Supply order, WD No 77126. Loaned new to the LNER, it returned to the WD in November 1944 and was stored until purchased by BR in December 1949 and allocated to Wakefield where, with the exception of five months at Sowerby Bridge in 1953, it remained until withdrawal on 24 November 1964. It was cut up at Darlington Works. The front repainted. £300-400 - Sold for £460 to commission or postal bidder number 4932.

Lot 111 A BR(Sc) totem sign, CLEGHORN, (h/f), the first station north of Carstairs on the main line to Glasgow. Rim chips repainted, otherwise excellent. £350-500 - Sold for £720.

Lot 112 A shedplate 56A Wakefield (October 1956 to June 1967). This former L&Y shed, originally numbered 25A, had 90 locos when it took on this code. It will be remembered for its handful of Jubilees and B1 Antelopes and its substantial allocation of WD 2-8-0s. The front repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £180.

Lot 114 A worksplate, ANDREW BARCLAY, 1348, 1913, from a standard gauge 0-4-0ST new to the Carron Iron Co at Falkirk, Stirlingshire, running number 6. It spent all its life at Falkirk until scrapped in April 1963. Cast brass, 16¾"x11¾", the front repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £180.

Lot 115 A pair of headlamps, white and red aspects, from the locomotive DUNROBIN, a tank engine provided for hauling the Duke of Sutherland's saloon and shedded at Brora. The long time driver's name A RHIND and BRORA are clearly shown on the top of each lamp. Lot 121 A worksplate, LNER, BUILT 1944, SR, from a Stanier Class 8F type 2-8-0 built to LNER order by the Southern Railway at Brighton in 1944 and loaned to the LNER, their Class O6 No 7655, renumbered 3104 in 1946 and 3504 in 1947. On transfer to the LMS in 1947 it was numbered 8709 and became BR 48709 the following year. Its later sheds included Widnes and Speke Junction from where it was withdrawn in July 1967 and sold for scrap to Cashmores at Great Bridge. Lot 132 A (GWR) cabside numberplate 8489 from a 9400 Class 0-6-0PT built by Robert Stephenson & Hawthorns, Works No 7459, in July 1952 as sub-contractors for Hudswell Clarke who also allotted their own Works No 1837. Allocated new to Cardiff East Dock on 25 July 1952 and later Abercynon, Treherbert, Cardiff Cathays, Radyr, Aberbeeg and Gloucester from where it was withdrawn on 9 February 1962 and sold to Cashmores at Newport. Cast brass, the front repainted. £350-500 - Sold for £320.

Lot 133 A BR(M) totem sign, MEIR, (f/f), from the Stoke on Trent to Uttoxeter route. The station closed in 1966. Loss of shine, a chip repair in the lower panel. £500-800 - Sold for £960 to commission or postal bidder number 8169.

Lot 134 A worksplate, LB&SCR, BRIGHTON WORKS, No 83, 1912, from a London Brighton & South Coast Railway I3 Class 4-4-2T No 83 designed by Marsh and built by his successor Billinton at Brighton Works in August 1912. It became SR 2083 and BR 32083 and spent its BR days at Eastbourne from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 23 June 1951 and cut up at Eastleigh Works the following week. Cast brass with engraved characters, overall 16¼"x9¾", unpolished, the back stamped L83, indicating that this is the left hand side plate. £1000-1500 - Sold for £2100.

Lot 136 A shedplate 50D Starbeck 1948 to September 1959), then Goole (January 1960 to May 1967 to steam, totally by February 1973). The ex NER shed at Starbeck was home to 45 locos in 1950, 12 of this total being 4-4-0 Hunts. By closure the total had reduced to just six in an overall allocation of 30. Ex LYR shed Goole, formerly 25C and then 53E, had an allocation of just 30 when taking on this code. Some diesel shunters also carried this code. The front repainted. £150-250 - Sold for £200.

Lot 141 A nameplate, ANTI-AIRCRAFT COMMAND, together with its badge depicting a black bow and arrow, from the Southern Railway Battle of Britain Class 4-6-2 No 21C149 built at Brighton in December 1946, becoming BR 34049, one of the class to retain its original air smoothed casing to the end. Allocated new to Salisbury where it spent almost all its working life with brief spells at Nine Elms and Exmouth Junction, although officially unallocated when withdrawn in the week ending 7 December 1963. It was cut up at Eastleigh Works in the week ending 6 June 1964. This, the first of Bulleid's Battle of Britain Class, was the only one with army connections, being named after a British Army Command of the Second World War. The nameplate is cast brass, length 71¼", the front repainted. £30000-35000 - Sold for £27000.

Allocated new to Bedford on 27 June 1936, it spent all its BR days at Rose Grove before moving in August 1963 to Lostock Hall from where it was withdrawn on 1 April 1967 and sold for scrap to Campbells at Airdrie. Lot 156 A worksplate, LMS 4826 BUILT 1934 DERBY, an unusual plate believed to have been carried by the LMS Class 5 4-6-0 No 4826, later BR 44826, although this loco was actually built at Crewe and ten years later in 1944. It was allocated new to Belle Vue on 1 July 1944 and was shedded at Bath Green Park from 1947 until 1953 when he worked on the Somerset & Dorset Joint Line. Its later sheds were Farnley Junction and Holbeck from where it was withdrawn on 30 September 1967 and sold for scrap to Cashmores at Great Bridge. Lot 165 A smokebox numberplate 42129 from a (LMS) Class 4 2-6-4T built at Derby and allocated new on loan to St Albans on 1 December 1949. It moved north of the border the following month to Hamilton and later Polmadie, Motherwell and finally Beattock where it was used as a banking engine until withdrawal on 20 September 1965. It was sold for scrap to Motherwell Machinery & Scrap at Wishaw. Ex loco condition. £300-500 - Sold for £480.

Lot 177 A GWR cabside numberplate, 5960, from a 4900 Hall Class 4-6-0 built at Swindon in January 1936 and named SAINT EDMUND HALL after the Oxford college. Appropriately it spent almost all its life at Oxford from where it was withdrawn on 7 September 1962 and sold for scrap to A. King at Norwich. Lot 178 A nameplate, CAERNARVON, from a LMS Patriot Class 6P 4-6-0 No 5992 built at Crewe and allocated new to Holbeck on 27 September 1932. Renumbered 5515 in 1934, it was named in 15 January 1939 after the town in North Wales and became BR 45515. Its BR sheds were Preston, Edge Hill and Newton Heath from where it was withdrawn on 8 June 1962 and cut up at Crewe Works. Cast brass, 34½" long, the front repainted. £7000-9000 - Sold for £9600.

Lot 184 A worksplate, ENGLISH ELECTRIC 3072/D622 1960, from Class 40 D326, later 40126. New to Crewe North in December 1960; withdrawn from Kingmoor in February 1984 and cut up at Doncaster Works the following month. This loco inadvertently became the most famous in its class when it hauled the mail train which was the subject of the Great Train Robbery at Sears Crossing near Cheddington on 8 August 1963. The plate was sold by ourselves in 2000 and has subsequently been re-chromed and the front repainted; nevertheless a significant piece of railway and social history. Lot 185 A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 62709, DARLINGTON WORKS, 1927, from a LNER D49 Shire Class 4-4-0 No 277 BERWICKSHIRE built at Darlington in January 1928, renumbered 2709 in 1946, becoming BR 62709. A long time Haymarket engine, it was withdrawn from there on 1 January 1960 and cut up at Darlington Works. The BR number on a brass strip, the earlier number 2709 ground off but still legible. Lot 189 A smokebox numberplate, 44146, from a LMS Class 4F 0-6-0 No 4146 built at Crewe in 1925. Lot 193 A GWR cabside numberplate 9707 from a 8750 Class 0-6-0PT built at Swindon in November 1933, one of ten of this class fitted with condensing apparatus for working over Metropolitan lines. It spend most of its working life at Old Oak Common before moving in 1963 to Southall and the following year to Taunton from where it was withdrawn on 7 September 1964 and sold for scrap to Birds Commercial Motors at Risca on 14 October 1964. Lot 212 A carriage panel from the GWR Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee Royal Train, featuring colour-tinted photographs by Photocrom of WELLS CATHEDRAL and the ROMAN BATHS AT BATH. The panel, from coach 233 built at Swindon in 1897, is a superb and unique example constructed in sycamore and walnut with hand-carved corner flutings and gilded surrounds, each hand-painted title recessed into the frame. 22"x11". £1000-1500 - Sold for £1050 to commission or postal bidder number 2618.

Lot 221 A nameplate NORTH ASTON HALL from the (GWR) 6959 Modified Hall Class 4-6-0 No 7917 built at Swindon in April 1950 and named after a country house estate south of Banbury. Lot 223 A worksplate, NEILSON & Co, 4477, 1892, from a 3ft 6ins gauge Cape Government Railways 4-6-0 No 717 which, after the formation of South African Railways in 1910, became their Class 7 No 987. The class were goods engines and many were still in use until the late 1960s on branch line work. They were finally withdrawn by 1972. Lot 255 A Derwent Valley Light Railway platform lamp, the name COTTINGWITH applied to the glass in painted blue lettering. The line ran from York Layerthorpe station to Cliff Common near Selby. It opened in 1913 and closed to passengers in 1926. The southern section through Cottingwith was finally closed in 1965. Lot 273 A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 8148, 1929, from a LNER Y1 Class 4-wheel Sentinel, Works No 7845, new to the LNER as No 174 in August 1929, renumbered 8148 in 1946, becoming BR 68148. Allocated new to Bridlington where it spent virtually all its working life until transferred in January 1954 to Hull Dairycoates from where it was withdrawn on 19 December 1955. Lot 274 A presentation brass standard lamp given to H A Ivattt on his retirement in Feb 1912 by the Enginemen, Firemen and Cleaners. An exceptionally decorative design with three legs supporting the engraved brass panel bearing the inscription and two further embossed panels showing an Ivatt Atlantic locomotive and the frontage of Kings Cross station. Above are embossed brass roundels bearing the GNR monogram. An important and unique item, overall height 56". The lamp is illustrated without a shade, as latterly it had one of 1970s style. We believe it would originally have had a white glass globe and a modern example of such a globe is provided if required. £900-1200 - Sold for £1750.00.

Lot 282 A nameplate CHERITON, from Class 319 319008 power car 71779. Named at Victoria station in March 1994 to commemorate this unit being the first train carrying passengers through the Channel Tunnel on 10th December 1993. After the naming ceremony this unit along with 319009 ran non stop to Brighton in 37mins 57s, a new record. Plates were removed in September 2007 and reinstated in March 2012. Lot 292 A nameplate, BAHAMAS, from a LMS Class 6P Jubilee 4-6-0 No 5596 built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 24154, in January 1935 and named on 8 June 1936 after a crown colony in the West Indies. Allocated new to Crewe North on 26 December 1934, it became BR 45596 and its BR sheds were Edge Hill Carlisle Upperby and Stockport from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 23 July 1966. It was purchased for preservation direct from BR by the Bahamas Locomotive Society in 1967 and currently resides in running order at the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway. Lot 297 A GWR cabside numberplate, 7317, from a 53XX Class 2-6-0 built at Swindon in December 1921 from parts supplied by Robert Stephenson & Co from whom it was originally ordered. Allocated to Oxley by January 1948, it was transferred the following September to Tyseley where it spent most of its BR days before moving towards the end to St Philips Marsh, Cardiff Canton, Cardiff East Dock and Taunton from where it was withdrawn on 28 December 1963 and sold for scrap to Birds Commercial Motors at Morriston on 28 February 1964. The ex TVR shed at Cathays had an allocation of 80 locos, while ex GWR shed Radyr had 55 locos during this period. Ex GWR Canton’s allocation of 130 included 12 Britannias until September 1961. Lot 319 A shedplate 84A Wolverhampton Stafford Road (1949 to September 1963), then Plymouth Laira (September 1963 to June 1973). The ex GWR shed at Wolverhampton had a star studded allocation throughout its BR life. In 1950 its allocation of 66 locos included 5 Counties, 10 Castles, 6 Stars, 6 Kings, 8 Halls and 2 Granges! By 1959, while the overall total had reduced to 47, its King allocation had gone up by 2! Plymouth Laira, formerly 83D, used this code for 7 months before it lost its steam allocation. However some of its diesels were known to have carried this style of plate. Repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £220.

Lot 330 A shedplate 82E Yeovil Pen Mill (1949 to February 1958), then Bristol Barrow Road (February 1958 to November 1965). The ex GWR shed at Yeovil housed just 10 locos during this period. It was transferred from the WR to the SR becoming 71H, finally closing in January 1959. The ex Midland shed at Barrow Road, Bristol was transferred from the MR (22A) to the WR in 1958. At this time its allocation of around 50 locos included 3 Patriots and 9 Jubilees. However, by 1965 the depot had been “westernised” with an allocation that included 11 Halls and 2 Granges in its total of 40 locos. Lot 332 A locomotive rebuild plate, SOUTHERN RAILWAY, ASHINGTON COAL COMPANY LTD, STROUDLEY, No 163, BUILT 1891, REBUILT 1946, LINTON COLLIERY No 4, from a former London Brighton & South Coast Railway E Class 0-6-0T No 163 built at Brighton in December 1892 and named Southwick, becoming SR 2163. It was withdrawn in May 1932, put up for sale and sold the same month to the Ashington Coal Co Ltd in Northumberland, becoming their No 4. It worked at the Company's Linton Colliery and, after rebuilding at the repair shed there in 1946, continued to give long and arduous service before being broken up in October 1954. Lot 339 A nameplate EDMUND BURKE from a Metropolitan Railway Bo-Bo electric number 7 built by Metropolitan Vickers in 1922. These bronze plates were carried from 1927 until the start of the Second World War when they were removed. In the post war years the locos carried plain alloy plates until withdrawal. Lot 340 A BR(Sc) totem sign, GARELOCHHEAD, (h/f), from the West Highland line to Fort William and Mallaig. Loss of shine and a chip repair on the 'H'. £800-1200 - Sold for £1550 to commission or postal bidder number 1380.

Lot 341 A coach builders plate, LB&SC THIRD CLASS, 457. Cast iron, 9¼"x5½", the front repainted. £200-350 - Sold for £480 to commission or postal bidder number 1643.

Lot 342 A station stamp, PENRUDDOCK STATION, C.K.& P. Ry, brass head with turned wooden body, 3½" long. The station was on the Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith route which closed in 1972. £400-500 - Sold for £520.

Lot 343 A shedplate 88B Cardiff East Dock (1949 to March 1958), then Radyr (October 1960 to July 1965). The former GWR depot at East Dock was home to 60 locos in the 1950s which included an exotic collection of antiquated tank engines. The depot was run down and lost its allocation in 1958, but was to rise from the ashes in September 1962, now coded 88L, when it inherited all of Cardiff Cantons steam allocation; Castles, Halls, Granges and Manors now graced the shed. Ex GWR shed Radyr had taken this code over in 1960 and had around 50 locos during this period. Repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £120.

Lot 344 A Great Eastern Railway fireman's helmet, complete with elaborate decoration including oak leaves. The front is decorated with the GER badge and bat's wing device. The helmet has a leather lining, which is worn, and a brass link chain strap. £1000-1500 - Sold for £1450 to commission or postal bidder number 2521.

Lot 345 A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 2126, 1902, from a North Eastern Railway Class P1, LNER J25 Class, 0-6-0 No 2126 built at Gateshead in May 1902. It was one of forty of the class loaned to the GWR during the Second World War to replace their Dean Goods 0-6-0s taken over by the War Department, this loco loaned in March 1940 and returned to the LNER in August 1946 whereupon it was renumbered 5715 and withdrawn from Stockton on 14 March 1949 without having received its allotted BR No 65715. Cast brass, 9"x5", the front repainted. £350-500 - Sold for £520.

Lot 347 A GWR cabside numberplate, 6627, from a 5600 Class 0-6-2T built at Swindon in February 1928. Allocated to Cardiff Cathays by January 1948 and later Merthyr, Reading, Neyland and Aberdare from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 9 November 1963 and sold for scrap to T.W. Ward at Broughton Lane on 27 January 1964. Cast iron, a weld repair between the third and fourth numbers, the front repainted. £150-300 - Sold for £240.

Lot 348 A Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway free ticket to Mr Joseph Noble, the rim marked 10/- reward if found and returned to MSLR Sec't London Road Station. 1¼" diameter. Together with another MSLR pass, rather worn. (2) £150-300 - Sold for £130.

Lot 349 A worksplate, LMS BUILT ST ROLLOX 1916, from a Caledonian Railway 113 Class 4-4-0. Those recorded as built at St Rollox in 1916 were numbered between 113 and 124 and became LMS 14461-6 and BR 54461-6. This plate is marked 54469 on the back which was one of a batch built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 21444, in 1916, CR 930, becoming LMS 14469 and BR 54469. Allocated to Perth by January 1935 and later Corkerhill, Greenock Ladyburn and Polmadie, returning in June 1944 to Perth where it remained until withdrawal on 5 November 1959. It was cut up at Kilmarnock Works. Cast brass, 10½"x6", the front repainted. £200-350 - Sold for £230.

Lot 350 A cap badge for a Lancashire & Yorkshire and North Eastern Railway ships captain, from the Hull to Zeebrugge service which commenced in 1906. The service operated in the summer only by a single steamer, the LYR's Duke of Clarence. The service ceased in 1914. This design was used in 1906 only, later issues being smaller. Felt with gilt wire, 3¼"x2". £80-120 - Sold for £170.

Lot 361 A GWR cabside numberplate, 8105, from a 8100 Class 2-6-2T built at Swindon in April 1939, using the frames of withdrawn 5101 Class No 5126. Allocated to St Philips Marsh by January 1948, it alternated between there and Bristol Bath Road until moving in December 1951 to Worcester from where it was withdrawn on 20 June 1957 and cut up at Swindon Works in the four weeks ending 7 September 1957. Allocated new to Hull Alexandra Dock on 31 October 1949, it moved the following year to Hull Springhead and later Heaton, Blaydon and Gateshead from where it was withdrawn on 23 September 1963 and cut up at Darlington Works. Lot 370 A Great Central Railway three aspect sliding knob handlamp, with a large brass plate GCR 11850 STORETON, the body stamped with the same number. The lamp has its interior fittings but lacks on knob to operate the red aspect, otherwise excellent condition. £200-350 - Sold for £500.

Lot 377 A shedplate 5B Crewe South (1935 to November 1967). This ex LNWR shed was responsible for the freight locos serving the adjacent marshalling yards. Its allocation of 115 in 1959 was briefly enhanced by the arrival of 10 Jubilees in the early 60s. Between the summers of 1965 and 66 it was home to 24 Britannias out of a total allocation of 60 locos allocated. Repainted. £100-200 - Sold for £100.

Lot 379 A nameplate, ARMADA, from the LMS Class 6P Jubilee 4-6-0 No 5679, BR 45679, built at Crewe and new to Crewe North in December 1935. Named in June 1937, taking its name from the defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1588. Its later sheds included Preston, Derby, Millhouses, Kingmoor and Newton Heath from where it was withdrawn in December 1962 and cut up at Darlington Works. 28¾" long, the front of the plate has been repainted. £6000-8000 - This lot did not sell at the auction. The shed was noted for its pre group 0-4-0 saddle tanks from the minor South Wales railways, and in a short spell in the winter of 1963 it was also home to 41535, 47003 and ex LYR pug 51218. In about 1997 it unofficially exchanged identities with E1223 of the same class after it was one of eight chosen for working the Blue Train but E1223 was deemed to be in better condition. This ex Cheshire Lines shed, formerly 19D and 13C, was home to 2 GCR D11 Directors in a total of around 60 locos during the 1950s. After a period in store it was purchased by BR in December 1949 and entered traffic as No 90728 in August 1950 at Sowerby Bridge. It moved the following November to Farnley Junction where it remained until withdrawal on 9 December 1963 and was cut up at Darlington Works. Lot 439 A nameplate, CHIRK CASTLE, from the GWR 4073 Castle Class 4-6-0 No 5025 built at Swindon in April 1934 and named when built after the 14th Century Castle one mile west of Chirk Station. A long time Bristol Bath Road engine and later Swindon, Oxford for five years, and Hereford from where it was withdrawn during the week ending 9 October 1963 and sold for scrap to Cashmores at Great Bridge, entering their yard on 25 April 1964. Allocated to Tyseley by January 1948 and later Bristol Bath Road, St Philips Marsh, Wrexham GC and Croes Newydd from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 24 September 1966 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Great Bridge on 12 January 1967. Lot 443 A worksplate, LMS BUILT CREWE 1943, from a LMS Class 8F 2-8-0 No 8169, later BR 48169, allocated new to Royston on 24 April 1943 where it spent all its working life except for a few months at Mirfield in 1959. Lot 446 A nameplate GENERAL WADE HAYES from a standard gauge 0-4-0ST built by W. G. Bagnall, works number 2665 of 1942 that went new to Edmundsons Electricity Corporation Ltd, Little Barford Power Station, St. Neots, Huntingdonshire. Transferred in 1943 to an associated company, Shropshire, Worcestershire & Staffordshire Electric Power Co, Stourport Power Station, Worcestershire. Nationalised in 1948 as the British Electricity Authority and scrapped at Stourport in February 1968. Cast brass, length 55¾", the front repainted. £500-800 - Sold for £400.

Lot 447 A South African Railways cabside numberplate, 676, 19A, from a 3ft 6ins gauge Class 19A 4-8-2 built by the Swiss Locomotive Works at Winterthur, Works No 3301, in 1929 and designed for use on some of the more lightly laid branch lines. All were withdrawn by 1977. Cast brass, 20½"x14¼", the front repainted. £200-350 - Sold for £320.

Lot 448 A shedplate 85B Gloucester Horton Road (1949 to January 1966). This ex GWR shed had 100 locos on its books in the 1950s, which included Castles, Manors, and Halls. In the final 12 months it still maintained four Castles and four Halls in an allocation of 35 locos. The front repainted. £200-250 - Sold for £480.

Lot 449 A worksplate, WALLIS & STEEVENS, BASINGSTOKE, 7638, from a 5 ton compound cylindered steam tractor of a special class which had the motion enclosed within an "oilbath". Supplied new on 15 November 1919 to an owner in Henley on Thames and named ALICE, and it spent its working life in Berkshire and Hampshire. Survived into preservation to the present day. Engraved brass, 9¾"x8¼", in ex loco condition. £150-300 - Sold for £840.

Lot 453 A worksplate, LMS, BUILT 1945, DERBY, from a LMS Class 4 2-6-4T No 2209 which became BR 42209. Allocated new to Farnley Junction on 4 December 1945, it spent most of its BR days at Ardrossan before moving in February 1960 to Birkenhead and later Chester, Llandudno Junction and Bangor from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 6 February 1965 and sold for scrap to Motherwell Machinery & Scrap at Wishaw. Lot 484 A wagonplate, TO TRAVEL BETWEEN CADBURY'S, BOURNVILLE AND SHEFFIELD DEPOT, IN CASE OF BREAKDOWN WIRE LIFFORD, the back with similar wording but CARDIFF DEPOT LM&SR. During the second world war part of the Bournville factory was used for the production of pilot's seats for fighter aircraft. It is thought that this plate is from a goods van used to transport supplies to sites assembling aircraft. Cast brass, 9" square, original condition. £150-300 - Sold for £120.

Lot 496 A worksplate, AVELING & PORTER, 4851, from a 10 ton compound cylindered steam roller, supplied new on 26 September 1901 to a customer in Riga, Latvia where it was eventually cut up. It never worked in Britain and so presumably the plate was removed when it went to the scrap yard and was repatriated to the UK by a British steam enthusiast. Passed with the colliery to the NCB on 1st January 1947 and subsequently worked at a number of other collieries in Fife with the running number 49, finishing its days at Mary Colliery, Lochore.
