A worksplate, LMS BUILT 1890 HORWICH. Locos built by the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway at its Horwich works in 1890 included 1008 Class 2-4-2T, many of which survived into BR service numbered in the 506XX series and 11 Class 0-6-0, many of which survived into BR service numbered in the 52XXX series. A smokebox numberplate, 48127, from a LMS Class 8F 2-8-0 No 8127 built at Crewe and allocated new to Holbeck on 17 January 1941. Its later sheds included Heaton Mersey, Toton, Saltley, Kettering and Westhouses from where it was withdrawn on 2 October 1966 and cut up by Drapers at Hull in the week ending 21 January 1967. Lot 19 Clocks and Watches: GWR 12" Roundhead.
A GWR 12" dial roundhead wall clock with oak case, 12" dial and fusee movement, spun brass bezel, pendulum and key, complete with ivorine plate, GWR 3629. The clock has decorative hands and is believed to have been used in the GWR offices at Bute Docks, Cardiff. A South African Railways cabside numberplate, 2764, from a 3ft 6ins gauge Class 19D 4-8-2 built by Robert Stephenson & Hawthorns, Works No 7277, in 1947. A worksplate, VULCAN FOUNDRY, 3859, 1925, from a Ceylon Government Railways 5ft 6ins gauge Incline Class, later B2d Class, 4-6-0 tender tank No 43. Withdrawn from service in 1970. A French Railways cabside numberplate, S.N.C.F. 141.R.546, from a standard gauge Class 141.R 2-8-2 built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works at Philadelphia, Works No 72359, one of a large batch built by this American company between 1945 and 1947 and used all over the French railway network until 1974. A shedplate 75C Norwood Junction (1950 to January 1964 to steam. A small allocation of diesel shunters allocated until closure in 1966) In early BR days this ex SR shed had 40 locos, which was reduced to 18 in its final year. A small fleet of diesel shunters also carried this code; 3 03s, 15 08s and 3 of their SR forerunners. A fine stud of B1s, including 4 Antelopes and a Director, were on its books during the 1950s. Lot 52 Nameplates: Sarum Castle.
A nameplate SARUM CASTLE from the GWR 4073 Castle Class 4-6-0 built at Swindon in July 1939, the last Castle built before a break of seven years due to the War and named after the ancient monument of Old Sarum, just north of Salisbury, Sarum being the Latin name for the Wiltshire city. Allocated new to Shrewsbury, it moved to Bristol Bath Road in June 1959 and finally to two Cardiff Sheds, Canton and East Dock from where it was withdrawn in March 1963 and sold for scrap to Cashmores at Newport. A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 4845, DARLINGTON, 1932, from a LNWER J39 Class 0-6-0 No 1480 built at Darlington in November 1932, renumbered 4845 in 1946, becoming BR 64845. A long time Starbeck engine, it spent its final days at Thornaby from where it was withdrawn in July 1961 and cut up at Cowlairs Works. Lot 78 Cabside Numberplates: 6394.
A GWR cabside numberplate 6394 from a 43XX Class 2-6-0 built by Robert Stephenson & Co, Works No 3826, in November 1921. Allocated to Taunton by January 1948 and later Tyseley, Reading, Exeter and Gloucester from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 13 June 1964 and sold for scrap to Birds Commercial Motors at Risca on 18 August 1964. Cast iron, the front repainted, hairline cracks visible on the back. £250-400 - Sold for £580 to bidder number 9229

Lot 79 Worksplates (Steam): NBL 25363, 1944 (90395).
A worksplate, NORTH BRITISH LOCOMOTIVE Co, 25363, 1944, from a War Department Austerity 2-8-0 built to Ministry of Supply order in December 1944, WD No 78602. It was put in store by the WD, eventually acquired by BR, becoming their No 90395, and allocated to Farnley Junction on 25 March 1950. Its later sheds were Royston, Normanton, Wakefield, York and Sunderland from where it was withdrawn on 28 October 1966 and cut up by Drapers at Hull in the week ending 25 March 1967. Cast white brass, 13½"x5½", ex loco condition. £150-300 - Sold for £460 to bidder number 4197

A Southern Railway target sign, MAYFIELD, from the Cuckoo Line between Eridge and Polegate that closed in 1965. A chip to the area above right of the last letter approximately 2" diameter, otherwise just the usual edge chipping and rust.
