A shedplate 75E Three Bridges (1948 to June 1964). This ex LBSCR shed had 30 locos on its books in the 1950s, which dwindled to just 14 within a few months of closure. Lot 7 Worksplates (Steam): LMS Built 1900 Horwich.
A worksplate, BUILT 1900 HORWICH. Locomotives built by the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway at its Horwich Works in 1900 were 1008 Class 2-4-2T, some of which survived into BR days as Class 2P numbered in the 50XXX series and 11 Class 0-6-0, many of which survived into BR days as Class 3F numbered in the 52XXX series. A GWR tenderplate, GWR 1817, 1911, 3500 GALLONS, from a Standard Churchward tender, part of Swindon Lot A81, built between June and November 1911, which were used with all Churchward's standard tender locomotives and also Dukes and, later, Castles, Halls, Granges and Manors. A French Railways cabside numberplate, S.N.C.F. 141.R.500, from a standard gauge Class 141.R 2-8-2 built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works at Philadelphia, Works No 72313, one of a large batch built by this American company between 1945 and 1947 and used all over the French railway network until 1974. A long time Worcester engine until moving in April 1957 to Leamington and then Banbury and Swindon from where it was withdrawn on 27 April 1961 and sold for scrap to George Cohen at Morriston on 2 July 1964. A worksplate HUDSWELL, CLARKE, 1502, 1923, from a standard gauge 0-6-0T new to Samuel Fox & Co. Ltd, Stocksbridge Ironworks, Yorkshire West Riding as No 14. Later designated as the locomotive for operating the Stocksbridge Railway between the steelworks and the exchange sidings with BR and carried plates to that effect. A worksplate, ARMSTRONG WHITWORTH, 431, 1921, from a Midland Railway 3835 Class 0-6-0, LMS Class 4F, No 3952, which became BR 43952. Its BR sheds were Belle Vue, Lower Darwen, Wigan L&Y, Newton Heath and Skipton from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 20 March 1965 and sold for scrap to T.W. Ward at Beighton. Lot 29 Cabside Numberplates: 6945 (Glasfryn Hall).
A GWR cabside numberplate, 6945, from a 4900 Hall Class 4-6-0 built at Swindon in September 1942 and named in September 1946 GLASFRYN HALL after one of two country houses of this name each about twelve miles south and south west of Caerwys near Ruthin, Clwyd. Allocated to Weymouth by January 1948 and later Swindon, St Philips Marsh, Laira, Westbury, Penzance, Stafford Road and Cardiff East Dock from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 29 August 1964 and sold for scrap to I.C. Woodfield at Cadoxton. Cast brass, ex loco condition, completely unpolished and uncleaned. £1200-1500 - This item was unsold.

Lot 33 Shedplates: 68E.
A shedplate 68E Carlisle Canal (October 1951 to February 1958). This ex NBR shed was 12B in early BR days, but was soon transferred to the ScR becoming 68E. During this period it had around 60 locos including those elusive A3s Sir Visto, Bayardo, Coronach and Flamingo. In 1958 it was returned to the LMR, briefly becoming 12D then 12C. Lot 36 Tenderplates: BR 5, 1, 1943 (90000).
A tenderplate, BR 5, 1, 1943, from the tender coupled new with the War Department Austerity 2-8-0 which became BR 90000. Built to Ministry of Supply order by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 24980, in February 1943, WD No 77009. Loaned new to the LNER, it returned to the WD in January 1945, and ran in Holland for several months, before being again loaned to the LNER in July 1946 and purchased by them the following December, as Class O7 No 3000, later BR 63000. It spent most of its BR days at Colwick before moving in February 1959 to New England and later Frodingham from where it was withdrawn on 6 June 1965 and sold for scrap to Cox & Danks at Wadsley Bridge. Although most WDs had at least one tender change during their working lives, this tender remained with 90000 throughout its BR life. A shedplate 10C Patricroft (1948 to February 1958), then Fleetwood (September 1963 to February 1966). The ex LNWR shed at Patricroft housed around 70 locos during the 1950s which included a handful of Jubilees. Ex LYR shed Fleetwood had just 25 locos in its final year of operation. A GWR cabside numberplate, 6380, from a 43XX Class 2-6-0 built by Robert Stephenson & Co, Works No 3812, in July 1921. A long time Chester engine, it finished its days at Croes Newydd and Severn Tunnel Junction from where it was withdrawn on 28 December 1963 and despatched for scrap to Birds Commercial Motors at Risca on 3 April 1964. A smokebox numberplate, 45429, from a LMS Class 5 4-6-0 No 5429 built by Armstrong Whitworth, Works No 1484, in 1937, becoming BR 45429. Allocated new to Bushbury on 2 November 1937, it was a much travelled engine, its sheds including Carlisle Kingmoor, Rugby, Holyhead and Chester from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 7 August 1965 and sold for scrap to Birds Commercial Motors at Morriston. Lot 54 Handlamps: LNER, M&GN, East Rudham.
An LNER (GN style) three aspect handlamp with M&GN, EAST RUDHAM stamped on the standard embossed LNER brass plate. The station was on the Melton Constable to Kings Lynn section and closed in 1959. The lamp has a double piecrust top and is restored but lacks internal glasses. £150-300 - Sold for £520 to bidder number 7778

Lot 55 Nameplates: Portland Bill.
A nameplate, PORTLAND BILL, from the London Brighton & South Coast Railway Class H1 4-4-2 Marsh Atlantic No 38 built by Kitson & Co, Works No 4352, in December 1905. It became SR 2038 and was named in May 1925, the whole Class being named about that time after well-known South Coast landmarks. As BR 32038 it was allocated to Newhaven and Brighton from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 7 July 1951 and cut up at Eastleigh Works in the week ending 15 September 1951. A worksplate, LMS BUILT 1943, GWR, from a Stanier Class 8F 2-8-0 No 8406 built by the GWR at Swindon to Railway Executive Committee order, becoming BR 48406. Allocated new to Didcot on 14 August 1943 and later Toton and Heaton Mersey from October 1947 until withdrawal in the week ending 4 September 1965. It was despatched for scrap to T.W. The NER and LYR joint line ran from Marshland Junction (Goole) to Haxey, on the GNR GE Joint, opening in 1900 under the Light Railway Act.
