Portland Bill
A nameplate, PORTLAND BILL, from the London Brighton & South Coast Railway Class H1 4-4-2 Marsh Atlantic No 38 built by Kitson & Co, Works No 4352, in December 1905. It became SR 2038 and was named in May 1925, the whole Class being named about that time after well-known South Coast landmarks. As BR 32038 it was allocated to Newhaven and Brighton from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 7 July 1951 and cut up at Eastleigh Works in the week ending 15 September 1951. Cast brass, 43½" long, the front in repainted. (See also next Lot) £8000-12000
