Cabside Numberplates

SAR 1735, 14R
A South African Railways cabside numberplate, 1735, from a 3ft 6ins gauge Class 14 4-8-2 built by Robert Stephenson & Co, Works No 3634, in 1915. The class were given new boilers in the 1930s and re-classified as Class 14R. All were withdrawn by 1983. Cast brass, 20¾"x14½", the front repainted. The plate has been damaged and brazed up on the back and is a little out of true. £80-120
 This lot sold for £110 to bidder number 287.
