LMS Built Crewe, 1940
A worksplate, LMS BUILT 1940, CREWE. The only locos recorded as being built by the LMS at Crewe in 1940 were streamlined Princess Coronation Class 8P 4-6-2s Nos 6240-4 which became BR 46240-4 and were named City of Coventry, City of Edinburgh, City of Glasgow, City of Lancaster and City of Leeds, the latter renamed King George VI in 1941. It has, however, emerged that several LMS Class 8F 2-8-0s recorded as built in 1941, actually carried 1940 plates. Cast brass, 10½"x6", the front repainted. £250-400
