Great Central Railwayana Auction Sale 216, Auction Lot 258
Lot 258 A worksplate, 2151, DARLINGTON, 1951, from a (LNER) J72 Class 0-6-0T No 69023 built by BR to a North Eastern Railway 1898 design. Allocated new to Blaydon on 17 April 1951, it moved in October 1962 to Gateshead. Withdrawn from service stock in October 1964, it was renumbered 59 in Departmental Stock and allocated to North Blyth. It was condemned on 18 September 1966 whereupon it was acquired by Mr R Ainsworth who had it repainted in NER green and named it JOEM. Between 1977 and 1979 it operated a summer only passenger service on the Derwent Valley Light Railway in North Yorkshire. It is currently on loan to the Keighley & Worth Valley Preservation Society. Engraved brass, 12¼"x6½", in ex loco condition. £300-500
